Aden- 10 Songs Vidya Gaems Feedback

We have pretty different tastes in music so a lot of this was brand new to me! Made things really fun. I look at game music completely differently when I associate it with something specific.

1. Jesper Kyd - Main Title (Hitman: Blood Money)

Thought this was a fantastic opener. Pretty sure I actually smiled when the song really kicked in. Really liked the drums near the end too.

2. Nick Arundel and Ron Fish -Saving the Doctor (Batman: Arkham City)

And now something I do recognize! It's a very Batman-y track which means I like it by default. And what a great transition into the next song! Practically seamless. :)

3. Lorne Balfe -Boat Chase- Waterfall- Finale (Modern Warfare 2)

Modern Warfare is not my thing at all, but I actually really like this one too. It feels like you're building up to something really epic, like we're climbing through a tower on a way to a boss fight. And at about 2:27, you get there.

4. Harry Gregson-Williams - Virtuous Mission (MGS3: Snake Eater)

Based on this track, I'm guessing we managed to take off a little HP, but then the boss did this insane attack that is impossible to survive, even if you've been power leveling. Hopefully we didn't reset and try the fight again too many times. But hey, at 1:50, things start to pick up! Maybe we still have a chance of taking down this boss after all. It's a neat transition. Starts off pretty different from what came before but builds right back into epicness. Took me by surprise!

Continuing on the story I am completely pulling out of thin air, I think our main party was taken out by the boss, but the main character (which would be you, considering it's your volume), survived and is facing the boss in a one on one duel. With swords. Because I like swords. And the clanging would sound really nice with this.

5. Harry Gregson Williams & Stephen Barton - One Shot, One Kill (Call of Duty 4)

It's not really similar at all, so don't go looking stuff up or anything, but at first this reminded me a little bit of an Umineko track. Not so much when the song really kicks in, but that's not a bad thing. I like the sort of heartbeat sound a lot.

I feel a weird need to continue my goofy ass story. Okay, you've been stabbed by the villain. He's making a grand speech as you lay there dying. But wait! At 2:03, you leap back up, miraculously ripping the sword out of your own body and starting the fight again. It doesn't matter if this kind of recovery is medically impossible. It's badass.

6. Bill Elm and Woody Jackson - Battle of Chuparosa (Red Dead Redemption)

Very different from what's come before, but awesome all the same. Actually think it might be my favorite track so far. Sounds like it could be part of a current gen Wild Arms game.

In spite of your miraculous recovery, the boss has bested you. A victory would have been awesome, but we're only on track 6. You've fallen off the tower into the pouring rain, and the viewer is left waiting to know what happened to you. Don't worry, you're the main character, you're fine. In the meantime, we've flashed to the adventures of three of our side characters who didn't join us at the tower. They're currently visiting a local town, searching for both information in a bar. One is a mysterious masked man who is as insane as he is skilled with a pistol. He is known only as THE CUCKOO. One is their healer, the eccentric Doctor Faustus. His potions can cure even the gravest of wounds, but they can be unpredictable, thanks in no small smart to how easily he is distracted. Last is a recalcitrant man who would reportedly slit his mama's throat for a nickel. He seems to strike fear into the hearts of all he encounters. He has yet to introduce himself to the audience, but the other two call him Neg. Together, they are...the tri-fap.

7. HEALTH - KILL (Max Payne 3)

I was kind of hoping you'd continue the awesome wild west vibe! :laugh: This is a nice enough track, but maybe not as memorable as some of the others.

And we're back to Aden, who despite his many wounds, can think of nothing but finishing off the boss. White mage Marceline does her best to get him in fighting shape while he and strategist IU formulate a plan. Weapons master Docrate shows off his newest creations. They may have been felled by a single attack last time, but the boss won't fare so easily against THIS!

8. Keiki Kobayashi, ACE COMBAT 5 Chorus Team -The Unsung War (Ace Combat 5)

Wasn't expecting the vocals on this one! A very nice surprise. It's lovely and has that epic feel at the same time. Sort of feels like an opening movie or ending credits tune? Think this is up there with track 6 for me. Very cool when some of the best stuff is in the last half of the album.

And, with Aden (mostly) recovered, our heroes prepare to head back out. They've had almost no time to prepare, and everyone but Aden was demolished last time, but it doesn't matter. This is a battle they must fight. For the sake of the ones they love. For the sake of each other. For the sake of each other.

9. Frank Klepacki - HM2 (Red Alert 2)

This isn't what I was expecting at all either. :) Surprises all around. Feel like this is epic in a completely different way than earlier tracks. This is a song for folks who are kicking some serious ass. :D Love the marching.

Our team is back in action! The boss (who is Lyedecker, because I realized I hadn't cast him yet), is still a formidable foe, but as promised, Docrate's weapons are working their magic. Black mage CM hurtles spell after deadly spell leaving Lye in a severely weakened state. He continues his attacks, but they don't hurt like they used to, and eventually, he is forced to focus on recovery. IU gives Aden a nod, letting him know that now is the time to launch the ultimate attack. As the song ends, Aden lands the final blow, whispering his parting words into Lye's ear. "See you in hell...bad guy"

10. Gerard Marino - God Of War III Overture

I have some weird associations with God of War but this is still a really nice tune. Has a sort of world is falling vibe. It's a neat way to end an album. I guess since we're depressed perverts it's pretty fitting too!

Aden has successfully defeated Lye, but it appears our heroes may not have been in time! It looks as though his plot to destroy the world has already been put into action. Fire rains down from the sky as the team watches helplessly. Giving the group a farewell nod, Marceline rushes off to help injured townspeople. The remaining members look at each other, trying to come up with some plan, any plan. Aden rushes to Lye, screaming at him to stop what he has done, but it's too late. The life has already left his evil body. It looks as though the world is lost!

Suddenly, the tri-fap stagger in, stinking of drink. Muttering something to himself about snuggies and pip pip, Dr Faustus pulls out a potion and throws it in the air. An image of goatse is emblazoned in the sky. "Drat, not that one," he says. He throws another one, and the fire turns to flowers. The world is saved! People dance and birds sing. The Cuckoo and Neg belch in unison.

Nah, I'm no Cuckoo. I was trying to do the same thing he did but I get too caught up in making up goofy stuff sometimes, I think. Hope there was still some decent feedback in there for Aden. :)

A lot of mine probably only make sense to me too. A lot of times I'll obsess over order and come up with specific reasons for each song to go where it does, and everyone who listens probably doesn't think about it for a second. :laugh: I like listening to everybody's stuff though, even if I can't figure out the awesome reasons behind your track order. We definitely all have our own style when it comes to 10 Songs, even beyond music genres. It's really cool.

CUCKOO - volume XXI - Video Games Edition feedback

1. OCEAN ON HIS SHOULDERS [from "BIOSHOCK"] / Garry Schyman

I considered using some BioShock music on my mix too. The whole game has great music, but this track in particular is excellent. It encompasses so many emotions. It's creepy and strange, lovely and sad, and has this sense of longing throughout, both in a wistful sort of way and in a greedy way. Just awesome.

2. MAIN TITLES [from "FABLE"] / Danny Elfman

You always have such well done transitions! I wasn't sure why this was so familiar to me at first, but then checked the title and remembered all the hours my ex had spent with Fable. :laugh: It's a really atmospheric opening so far. I'm thinking that the players were dropped straight into the action (just like in BioShock). And maybe 1:50 is when you get to battle for the first time. Don't think your game is an RPG. Maybe a third-person adventure game.

3. "ACTRAISER" SUITE / Yuzo Koshiro

This is a nice change in mood! Although the name seems to rule this out, this definitely sounds like the sort of music that would play on a ship taking a character to a new destination. Love the change at 1:11. Feels almost like I'm being introduced to different characters each time the track changes. The guy that shows up at 2:46 sounds awesome. He might betray us later on, but I'd still have a drink with him. And our trouble rears its head at 4:45! So much for introductions. At first I thought you were fighting a sea monster but then I thought maybe someone was stealing from us. Maybe I should stop making up goofy stories and just enjoy the pretty music. :laugh:

4. MAIN TITLE [from "FARENHEIT"] / Angelo Badalamenti

I am not a score nerd, but this is a name I am very familiar with. :D I'm really glad I'm listening to this track with headphones stuff. There's some nice subtle stuff I think I might miss if I was just relying on my speakers. Was sad this was so short - always a good sign.

5. ETHAN MARS' MAIN THEME [from "HEAVY RAIN"] / Normand Corbeil

Poor Ethan Mars. He does not sound like a happy guy. I feel kind of bad for making a goofy joke because this is really lovely. The piano is very nice. Around 1:25 or so it sounds like you're entering a cave or an alley. Searching for something you don't really want to find, but you need to look for anyway. Mournful piano always gets to me. It's such an evocative instrument.

6. "JERICHO" SUITE / Cris Velasco

Something about this track feels very sinister right from the start. Feel like you're continuing the uneasy exploration vibe. Now, you've stumbled onto something more horrific than you ever imagined, and you can only stare in the face of...whatever it is. The vocals are very nicely used. Oh man, and a nice change in direction around 1:50. Sounds like a big old monster stomping out. Maybe something like this guy (). Sounds like a terrifically intense fight. Voices in the background reminded me of Lost for a tiny bit. Thought for a second a new track had started around 6:44 because I'm so used to your transitions being seamless!

7. DARK BEAUTY CASTLE [from "EPIC MICKEY"] / James Dooley

And you had a seamless transition anyway! This is really nice. Feels like a dark fairytale, which a suppose is fitting for a track from Epic Mickey. Love the xylophone especially. Even though it's track 7, and the name gives me an idea of when it plays, I feel like this is a track befitting of some really amazing opening credits. The sort that look so cool you almost wish the movie/game wouldn't start and they'd keep right on playing.

8. MANOR HOUSE RALLY [from "MEDAL OF HONOR: FRONTLINE"]

My perception of the Medal of Honor games must be pretty off because I can't imagine a track like this playing during one of them. This track definitely feels like it would have fit on on Aden's volume 21 too. Has that epic, marching off to battle vibe a lot of his tracks had. But there's a little bit of a dark side to this one too that makes it work really nicely with your previous stuff. Must have been fun to record for whoever was holding the cymbals.

9. "CASTLEVANIA: LORDS OF SHADOWS" SUITE / Oscar Araujo

Castlevania games almost always have great music. :D There's something very purposeful about this one. I guess we're really getting closer to the end of the game. While I've been babbling about cymbals and xylophones, it's clear tortured hero James "Cuckoo" Johnson has been doing all he can to uncover the truth and corner the game's villain. There's this sense of satisfaction I get from a lot of the track, like someone has finally reached something they've worked very hard for. But at 3:49, I'm starting to think Cuckoo might not get the resolution he's hoping for. It's clear the situation is perilous. Buttons are being pressed rapidly, but the player might not have done all they need to get the best ending.

I love that chanting is cropping up again. This has been really well crafted. I'm spotting so many recurring themes and I'm sure there's so much I've missed completely. Makes me feel really bad about mine. :laugh:

10. DEADMAN'S GUN [from "RED DEAD REDEMPTION] / Ashtar Command

What a great closing track. Is it what plays over the credits in the game? Sure sounds like it.

Sadly, I don't think James "Cuckoo" Johnson made it out of the game alive. But don't cry too hard for Cuckoo. He spent much of the game with a death wish, continuing on only for the sake of his obsession. As his story came to its final chapter, he managed to find the answers to all the secrets that had tormented him, managed to defeat his most persistent demons, and avenge the loss of the ones he loved the most. He may be gone, but it's a happy ending.

Plus, if you spent hours collecting all those little bunny tokens you get a bonus scene that implies he might be okay.

Favorite tracks! This one for sure. Also really loved 3 and 6. 1 was a track I already loved, and I think I would have some pretty strong feelings for 4 had it been a little longer. Wonderful mix. <3

It was actually a last minute addition. I had already used an extended suite before from BS2....

....but found the next track didn't work well as an opening track so went with this.

Sadly it meant cutting some Yamoaka.

I tried to go for that hoping the 4th & 5th track wouldn't intrude too much.

I was originally going to have Escaping Gotha or Thermal Event (Mercanaries) as one of the final tracks, but I decided to save em for later. Don't know if that was a good idea or not, but I still liked how it turned out.

Out of Heavy Rain's score, I would have to say I liked Redemption the most. Heavy Rain's score is all great stuff, you can't go wrong with it. If you made a soundtrack that combined the Max Payne Trilogy Score, Heavy Rain, and Green Mile, You would probably have the single most depressing but awesome thing ever made.

By the way, I never knew Danny Elfman made the theme from Fable

So gritty & depressing and takes your mind down passages you're not anxious to explore again and again.

I cut one of my all-time favorite game tunes because I just had too much stuff and I felt like I had a really good shot at using it at another point this round. Almost used it during round 2!

Funny thing about Heavy Rain is that I thought I was going to fucking hate it. Loved it from the first playthrough on.
