If anything can be said for The Room, it’s that games actually can justify their place in franchises they were never intended for. Further, this should be judged for oneself, on the merits of the finished product, and not determined by popular opinion or initial impressions. Like Hibiki of the Kamen Rider television series, The Room earns its place in a pantheon it didn’t actively seek to join.

The differences inherent to Silent Hill 4 are what both define it, and make it a less than perfect entry in the series. The limited inventory system, while horribly validated, will not present you with extreme troubles. You will have no need of the scarce firearms and their space-hogging ammo stacks, once you’ve tried out the Rusty Ax and its bretheren. Indeed, 4 stands with 3 and Homecoming as an entry with a satisfying, varied, and effective melee system.

There is only one area, in fact, where your inventory will feel like a hinderance. Here, you are tasked with collecting a large quantity of spirit-warding items to use later, in your apartment. Said apartment acts as a hub-world between various sub-spaces, and houses set pieces such as hauntings that must be dealt with if you are to achieve the “better” endings. This area is experienced in first-person and is effective in how it goes from being a safe-haven to just another part of the nightmare as the game progresses.

It also further ties into what becomes an interconnected game world. At first, you will explore individual, discrete areas. Over time, however, you will end up revisiting each of them in a series of threaded experiences. This stands somewhat below Metroid-level backtracking in terms of enjoyment. It’s one of the less painful ways to do it, yes, but it is backtracking nonetheless.

The final unique feature of 4 is how the lead, Henry, is hands-down the least interesting character in the game. This, however, can be attributed to what he’s experienced and affords us a (nearly) silent protagonist with which to witness the twisted story of one of Silent Hill’s most compelling denizens: Walter Sullivan. If you have the patience and inclination to try something different, I can recommend giving Silent Hill 4 a spin. It can be a bit stilted and slow-moving, but I think it is ultimately rewarding because of its “ancillary” characters, unique take on the structure of Silent Hill, and loose association with 2.

Buyer’s Guide: Available on PS2, Xbox, and PC. While you can occasionally find it in used bins, I would recommend hunting around online for a good deal, as it is usually pretty pricey, in all its incarnations. Borrowing it from a Silent Hill-obsessed friend is honestly your best course of action.

Spoilers don't really matter to me, as a matter of fact I would like to avoid anything like what happened with ME3.

I used to read up a lot on any true cannibalism stuff I could. Saw some photos that really unsettled me (Issei Sagawa's victim) and I haven't been able to be as obsessive about it since. Man, the whole Issei Sagawa thing is fascinating to me, though. Would make an interesting movie, if it isn't one already.

You can do this in Windows too! Well, not seconds, you have to shell out the big bucks for that. I think it's right click > personalization > desktop background, then select a folder, select all, then go to the bottom, check shuffle, and select a time increment.

Yeah, it really seems like it. It's easy to just enjoy the craziness of stuff from the sidelines, but this must be so disappointing for the people who were really looking forward to it. :sad: I've read they had another ending they scrapped, and most people seem to think that's much better than what they got. Wonder what they were thinking.

If a DLC ending is needed because the real one is so bad, I think I'd want it to be free. I'd be happy to buy cheap goofy ones for certain games, though. Kind of surprised you can't buy Disgaea endings already. I guess you can a little, what with the extra storylines.

The only early episode I really didn't like was....6, maybe? The one with the pool trial. I mean, it wasn't terrible, it's just not that good for Community. I didn't like the Troy/Abed plot which is rare for me.

Still gets points for the Pierce song at the end.

The game was okay. It had an interesting feature which worked well but was underused. The rest of it was just Oni in a different skin. It fit in with the world and the continuity of the anime so for fans of that it had an appeal.
