It can be lazy film making.

No sense CGI battles like Transformers. Badly executed. Nothing but loud sounds and pushing back and forth.

However...

Pixar's CGI battles, The Matrix and The Avengers cleverly storyboarded their's out so you know exactly where each character is and what they're doing while making great use of the setting, almost turning it into a character all it's own.

I don't know. Kind of complicated if you ask me.

They've been talking about a Weaveworld adaptation for years.

Tv mini-series for the past 10 I think.

It'll never work.

I heard a lot of talk about The Thief Of Always being turned into an animated film or stop-action of some kind.

I think it was ditched when Gaiman's Coraline got the greenlight first.

Rogue..

That's on my OnDemand for free.

I'll try it out sometime.

I don't like watching movies on TV. Unless I don't have the movie presently.

I don't mind so much.

I have 6 movie channels for free. no commercials.

Can pause, rewind....all that jazz up to 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Just like owning the films.

Then any film that's aired on any of the channels end up on the OnDemand free of charge anywayS.

So it's like having a bunch of movies I wouldn't normally watch. :D

Not bad. Mostly not movies I'd watch......but can't be much worse than Doc's $1 bin picks.

---------- Post added at 02:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:59 AM ----------

No. That was a Popple.

:bearclap: Do it. Working on a rip for Doc. Just been visiting me mum for a few days now. What with her having her laptop back and all.
we're watching it right now... :erm: I said that already.

Definitely worth a watch, and definitely a much better film than Wolf Creek.

The cast is very likeable, the music is extremely great. Radha Mitchell and Sam Worthington are sexy as hell.

 movie channels. I miss thems.

There's a great free channel over here. Film 4. You maybe know the name from the movies they've made. Unfortunately they ran out of cash and had to put adverts on the channel. That is indeed the plan. 700-900mb. x264, aac.

However, since the movie is interlaced, it has to be deinterlaced first. Which is a very shitty method. There's no real "awsm" way of doing it.

Interlaced was only introduced because most TVs were interlace and it was much cheaper for companies to use interlace than progressive.

Feck, even most DVD players were only interlace. Just recently Progressive has become a substantial marketing ploy. Every machine, box, and advertisement has to stipulate that it has "progressive" capability :notgood:

Douches.

I tried converting it to interlace. Did not like it. Not. One. Bit.

Found a torrent that should suffice. But... :erm: you. don't. like...

What's the 911 on Django? Saw an article titled "Why I'm Worried About Django Unchained". :erm:

Is he...going to use Britney Spears and Madonna??

He loves Morricone, why wouldn't he throw some of that in?

I should look up what's going on with DU. Scorpion Cat is a dead-end.

First problem: Django ain't black. Even if the actor was Franco Nero. He ain't a slave either. he's a weird wanderer who drags a coffin behind him. I'm pretty sure there had better choices, but as always, tarentino is going for the big genre mashup: Spaghetti Western+Blaxploitation+Comedy+Parody+Bat shit insane stuff usual for him.
second problem: he's not a bounty hunter. He's a man on a vengeance mission, not a guy looking for his abducted/enslaved wife. She's dead jim. now go and kill the bastards.
third problem: where's the goddamn machine gun normally hidden in the coffin .
fourth problem: Even if Tarentino has a good track record for violence, he'll never get as shocking as the ending scenes of Django.
fifth problem: it wasn't Morricone. It was Bacalov.

I don't know. I just watched the trailer for the first time. That's all I know of it. I was just thinking aloud.

Or typing aloud. :erm:

Watch the original. then watch the trailer again. Tarentino's problem, in his recent movie endeavours, is that he only do pastiches of classic 70s exploitation movies. Problem is, his pastiches are more parodies, full of clichs and stupid shit than good, original movies. I had already been pissed of mightily by Inglourious Basterds (and those orthographical errors to sound "French" piss me off big time), but Django...no. I won't even get close to that piece of shit. because it's going to be bad. why ? Have you really seen the way Jamie Foxx speaks ? I've still got a shitload of empties to return for deposit. There should be enough in there to get me into Prometheus.

Cus I was thinking, when i get paid, we can drink, get cookies, be ma/erry and watch Prometheus. Cookies start before movie and half-way through movie.

Finished Rogue, onto Quantum of Solace. First time watching it since I purchased it on ebay.

Good ol' Superstore.

We still shop there. They have better deals than Save-On and other places.

I'd live with generic name-brands.

My dad pointed it out to me, the canned fish? It's all the same.
He used to work a fish cannery when he was younger.

After they sorted the fish to be sent out to outsources, they'd get labels slapped on them and sent out at ludicrous prices.

My dad pointed out on two brands: one a high-priced brand known to many, and another a generic brand, both had the same stamps embedded into the steal cans.
Indicating they both came from the same canneries. Just the cheap, cold-hearted paper label was different.

Perhaps the fish in the generic brand had more salt than the fancy labels, but overall, all the same.

I really don't mind generic brands. My brother, whom lives on his own and is independently financial likes name brands. it saves money when it all tastes the same.

 Yeh, BC cookies.

3D for me, is like 5.1 for music.

It opens a whole new level of entertainment and creativity for me. For some reason, it really fascinates me. Beyond measurable levels.

With the Pulfrich glasses, I can watch an entire movie with them and get no headache.

Most other people can't make it beyond 3 minutes without getting a headache.

Yet, in my opinion, Pulfrich 3D offers the best 3D for 2D-to-3D conversion.

Aside from the Pulfrich Effect, Anaglyph is acceptable on desperate levels. Red/blue, Red/cyan, red/green, amber/blue, mangenta/cyan (Coraline), etc.
With anaglyph, you're always going to see "ghosting", among other artifacts of 2D to 3D conversion. Even if the movie is designed for 3D.
And, granted, not all 3D movies filmed for 3D are ever entirely shot for 3D, there's going to be scenes that just don't do justice in 3D.
Largely because the physicality of scene is too demanding for the fragile, expensive 3D cameras, but also because of the standard frame rate of which movies are commonly filmed and displayed: 23.976 (24000/1001) FPS.

Peter Jackson has it right to want to release The Hobbit in 48 (50000/1001) FPS. The higher the FPS, the smoother the action sequences.
When ever a character moves quickly across the screen, or the camera pans around a character/object, the clearer it will be.

In most movies, you will see it is a blur across the screen, if you go frame-by-frame.

Unless the movie was filmed at a higher FPS for slow motion scenes, in which case, when they apply the IVTC (InVerse TeleCine) to comply with NTSC standards (23.976 FPS), it will come out much better.

However, the closer you remain to the original FPS of the filming rate, the smoother, clearer and finite it will be.

Which, in this case of 3D, will make a better 3D movie.

One thing I do notice with 2D-to-3D movies is that when a character whips by the camera from one side to the other, it's quite often blurry and offers no 3D depth/perception.

And, while we're on the topic of 3D: I believe depth-perception is a far greater goal than trying to make everything and anything eye-popping.

As, most studies indicate, eye-popping 3D that comes at your from the screen (as apposed to away from you to achieve depth-perception) will tire the brain much faster, as it's not meant to view the movie in 3D since it knows that it is merely a 2D image being manipulated.

I, on the other hand, have greatly trained me brain to enjoy the process and look for the highlights of each scene to keep it active enough to not fall asleep on me half-way through the movie.

IMAX 3D? Forget it.

Unless the movie was filmed with IMAX cameras and 3D cameras... you're wasting your money, your time, and your concentration.
Overall, it will only lower your confidence in 3D "magic". Which is quite unfair. Most companies won't even reveal this information on 3D technology.
Everything has to be glittery and shiny for advertisements to maximize clientele profits.

Umm... If it isn't Carona or "light", it's usually 5%.
Especially the really cheap beers. they're 5% cat-piss.

About the only really cheap brand I like is Old Milwakee. 5%, cheap, not bad of a taste.

My older brother and I used to go through so many cheap labels to find the right stuff.
We found a brand that goes at 6% but was really god-aweful gross.
You really needed to drink the first can really really fast so you can tolerate the rest.

Carona and light beers go for about 3.5%?

Too close and it looks like shit. Very odd.

It depends on the mastering. Some labels just do a very generic master and don't pay attention to DNR and other features that supposedly "enhance" the movie.
Mirimax is not so great with their transfers: Scream 1, Kill Bill 1 (2 came out better).

Christopher Nolan's Memento didn't get a good release initially. CN had to come in and personally remaster the BD transfer after so many fans disapproved of the first BD transfer.
The best version of Memento to get on BD is the 10th Anniversary.

FYI: Lemmings don't follow habitual patterns of other lemmings.

The notion that lemmings follow suit of the wide-hysteria of sudden suicide was invented by Disney.
They abducted lemmings from their natural habitat and brought them over to Canada. Manitoba or something. Not sure which province.
They put them (off-screen) on a record player that would fling them off the cliff to their death, thus creating the myth of mass-hysteria and suicide as a common tradition.

True, lemmings would fall to their death. But, only when migrating and the environment proved too risky for a pack of lemmings that would overcrowd themselves and eventually force the poor, unlucky lemming on the outside to fall to his/her doom.

Which is natural. Apply the same scenario to any species in the same environment and you'll get the same results: Survival of the fittest.

Mel Gibson's "Apocalypto" exhibits the same nature when it's human VS human.

Lemmings are vastly misunderstood.

I think the last part of QoS could've been greatly improved. The main villain screaming like a girl all the time... I was so distracted in theaters by his performance.
It was just as bad as the guy who cried blood ; ;

Makes me think of a lot of pathetic highschool kids coming up with Hollywood ideas and sleeping with the real writers/producers of the movie just to get their idea in the movie.

The rest is good though. I enjoy the rest, once the main bad guy is gone.

Still find the desert and the "fortress" to be hokum.

Felt more like "Celebrity Squares" than a villain's lair.

 Yeah, she's been M since Goldeneye.

But, as far as comments go in the "Let's Talk About Bond" thread started by Lye, it seems that RF is taking over the role of M.
Although, I really haven't seen him in any trailers.

I presume he arrives in the last half hour to relieve Judy Dench as M to take over.

M does walk away in slow motion from an exploding/burning building. She is a silhouette, so I imagine that's near the end of the movie as a climax to the whole "what happened" scenes.

She makes a wonderful M. Goldeneye, she was drop-dead sexy. After that, she was just good.

---------- Post added at 05:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:13 AM ----------

Yeah, PAL makes a difference. My TV can't handle PAL. It's not one of those multi-line TVs that can handle NTSC and Pal at the same time.

Considering that in Goldeneye, the characters acted like "So I hear the new 'M' is a woman." etc etc etc.

Casino Royale is when DC replaced PB. JD remained as M.

...How is that she remained as M in the reboot, the prologue, the prequel of the James Bond stories while remaining a "new M" in Goldeneye, which happened long after MI:6 has been established to have a plethora of double-0's??????

Sophie from Anastasia. I think Marceline had lady boner for Dametrei from that as well.

The old PS2 game was the only one I liked. It really felt like you were controlling a heavy vehicle. And it was hard as nails, too.

I liked the character moments in Avengers. The opening was shit, and the end battle was boring.

Everything between those bits was mostly gold.

Iron Man Vs Thor was a nice fanboy moment

But you could actually understand what was going on in it. And it lasted longer than what you saw in the trailer. Many comic book movies have lame fight scenes that don't feel all that powerful and end far too soon.

CGI battles bore the tits off me. It's lazy film making. Popcorn porn. Not for me.

See, I can't fathom why they chose to not make them movies. They shouldn't have used them. Plugged in Wolverine, Beast, and Nightcrawler.

I would have given much more of a shit.

Funny you should say that. X-Men and Spider-Man were my name comic book guys, I didn't care about any of the Avengers people at all and figured they were a lamer Justice League from that British 60s spy show. Now all the X-Men and Spider-Man movies feel kinda sad and half empty or something.

---------- Post added at 12:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:55 PM ----------

If any of us here at STS were to design any CGI battles like that I'd wonder if you would call it lazy then.

Music makes it so much more creepier.

I actually really like the music. I let it play in the background for a bit yesterday and then got creeped out when I clicked back over.

It's mostly silly and weird but sometimes it goes far enough in the weird direction that it freaks me out.

I had so many toys as a kid...the sole benefit of A: being an only child, B: having a sheltered life due to an asshole for a biological father that kept threatening my mother he would abduct me.

The tv movie cheesiness was to be expected, but good lord that was excruciating. The puppets are irritating, the kids are ungrateful little shits and there wasn't even the obligatory moral lesson about charity and goodwill tacked on anywhere despite the actual Goodwill featuring in the plot. Unless you count the awful musical performance that they felt the need to play twice with generic lyrics about opening your eyes to "new experiences". As long as those "experiences" are with strangers in a dark attic and you don't tell your parents.

Seems promising. saved.

On a side note, the more I look at modern SFX "Armor wise", since what was done for LOTR, the more I think it's a matter of time before someone gets the idea to produce a live adaptation of Saint Seiya.

See, I can't fathom why they chose to not make them movies. They shouldn't have used them. Plugged in Wolverine, Beast, and Nightcrawler.

I would have given much more of a shit.

You just won yourself a like~

It can be lazy film making.

No sense CGI battles like Transformers. Badly executed. Nothing but loud sounds and pushing back and forth.

However...

Pixar's CGI battles, The Matrix and The Avengers cleverly storyboarded their's out so you know exactly where each character is and what they're doing while making great use of the setting, almost turning it into a character all it's own.

I don't know. Kind of complicated if you ask me.

If any of us here at STS were to design any CGI battles like that I'd wonder if you would call it lazy then.

If I were to film a fight scene.......... the camera is going to live on a damn nice holding thingy that will always be stable....

Same.

I remember scrounging the cupboards with my first roommates.

Huge bowls of shitty plain white rice.

Day old baked goods from a friend who's mom worked at a bakery.

One day we even found a can of SPAM at the back of the cupboard. We couldn't eat it.

...neither could the cat.

1 cup plain white rice + 1 1/4 cup water + 2 chicken bullion cubes = damn good rice~ I plop in lots of butter in it when it's done~
