It was me trying to find any excuse possible to mention "Jennifer's Body" in my Tetsuo review. That and I attended a roller skating rink rock show.

Weird.

I am considering that along with salty Dog & Seven Deadly sins.

Right now I'm having trouble finding a good performance of "15 men on a Deadman's Chest", "The Gruesome Death of Edward Teach" by Scissorfight, and I could have swore I had a good copy of "Yo Ho, Yo Ho a pirates Life for Me" but it must be lost on the computer I can't get to right now.

Thing with "Deadman's Chest" is it's hard to find a particular version, it might be miss named or miss labeled in some way or the artist you've been looking up on yutube doesn't have anything to download anywhere.

"There Are No Cats In America". It's been so long since I've heard that. At least not since the 80's.

...and "The Rainbow Connection"...that will always hold a dear place in my heart. :)

"Pooh Bear" wow...i completely forgot about this song. Good ol' Pooh. :o

"He-man" "Rubber Ducky" "Being Green" and "C Is For COokie" are other highlights.

The only one I'm completely clueless too is the Bee song. Never heard of it. :itsamystery:

I've never seen those movies, but I suspect I might actually like them....well, the first one atleast. Those types of comedies are usaully funny the first time around and then suffer profusely during the second round.

Bruce Willis is entertaining enough and for some reason Matthew Perry makes me laugh too.

Oooh...i like that one too.

I like to believe it was a little influenced by Barton Fink in atmosphere and setting. :)

I think my favorites are:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_by_Five_(Angel)

because after a bit of a bumpy start, with this episode the show finally gets both feet on the ground and knows exactly what it's set out to do. Plus...one of the most brutal fight scenes ever.

and this one:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lullaby_(Angel)

Daniel Holtz is one THE best villians ever and this episode proves it.

The scene where he is forced to dust his child is one of the most heartbreaking and disturbing images depicted in this series.

The last five minutes of this episode is a rollercoaster of emotions: terrifying, sad, intense and exciting. What Holtz does is pure vengeful class. I love it.

I got on this because of a few weeks ago Ndi had mentioned LOST's "The Constant" being one of her favorite TV episodes ever. It got me thinking what my favorites were.

I was going to post my top 15 favorite shows with 2 of my favorite episodes from each show. Never got around to it though. :p

That's an understatement.

Flashback episodes were always good.

"Darla" and Buffy's "Fool For Love" were wonderful.

The slo-mo motley crew shot made the fanboy in me jump up and down with glee, followed by a necessary change of pants.

I love this mix, Tom. Brings back so many memories.

It's from Maya the Bee.
YouTube - Classic Nick Promo (Early 90's) - Maya the Bee (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOwNczzEufc&feature=related)
Originally a book published around 1890s-1900s it was an Japanese cartoon made in the late 70 and was exported to a whole but load of countries and languages in the 80s.
Here's the original theme that was used on most of the dubs:
YouTube - Maya the Bee - Opening Titles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHrRwZEUVS0&feature=related)
And the english American theme song.
YouTube - Maya The Bee - Opening Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlwueICyUxk)

Sadly the original was filled with tons of entomology for a babie's show that got lost in translation, most of which should have been picked up on like calling spiders "insects" and the like.

I'm working on the review of A.R. Rahman's score for 127 Hours. I'm listening to it and a lot of it sounds like Boyle's former go to music guy, John Murphy. I'm wondering if the studio pushed Boyle to use Rahman again after the Slumdog success, but Boyle still wanted a certain sound that Murphy usually produced for him.

Now here's the question...i've built up a bit of messaging relationship with Murphy and am wondering if I should ask him if this might be the case. You think it might be a touchy subject? Should I not ask and just assume?

I had fun with yours too. Quite a few tracks that aren't used all too often.

While I did kinda listen to music at that age I really only had the tv and movie songs as mainstays so tracks were kinda hard to come by plus I guess I kinda cheated with some of the muppet stuff which must have first appeared in the 70s. I originally had some stuff form The Hobbit but that's from 77.
As for track order the only thing i really had set was that He-Man, THundercats & the Sesame Street ones go first and "If We Hold On Together" was at the end.

There are other series that I think are as dark as 555- Kuuga and Ryuki come to mind- but the difference for me is that in those two series, there's something to counteract the darkness. With Kuuga, there's Godai's relentless optimism, his enthusiasm for being Kuuga, and the positive effect he has on others. With Ryuki, there's the high level of silliness that is often present in the series. 555 doesn't really have anything like that so everything really does feel a lot more grim.

I'd second the Blade recommendation! But I hope you like Den-O too, Tom. ^___^

I watched "Devil" tonight, Doc.

It was fun...probably forgettable within 24 hours, but fun.

I suspect this is a first M. Night film in this sort of style. Did you notice at the beginning right before the credits it said "The Night Chronicles" and a "1" flashed on the screen.

I think if M were smart, he'd develop a TV anthology series like this, air it on Saturday nights on the sci-fi or horror cable channel and it might actually pick up a strong cult following like 90's Outer Limits or something like it.

Shave 20 minutes off of "Devil" and it be a pretty good one shot campy TV episode.

And who did I think was the devil? I picked that character out the instant they walked on screen. :p Lucky guess....because I started to second guess with every little twist.

...i was pretty sure they were going to pull a
SAW type ending and have the corpse stand back up at the end.

Yea, I noticed that, too. It did have that weekly anthology vibe about it. It was brave, setting it mostly in a small space.

And who did I think was the devil? I picked that character out the instant they walked on screen.

I went for the mattress selling guy. The movie wanted us to think it was him from the onset so I initially thought it must NOT be him, and then I thought it's Shyamalan so the twist will be it's who we think it is and then isn't. Make sense? Pffft. Sense is overrated. :-P

Although weird, I quite like her voice. For the longest time I thought she was again though, also thought Gwen Stafani in "New" video was Asian.

The horse scene was probably inspired by The Dark Night Returns.

Also Marlon Wayans was going to be Robin.

Someone from /toy/ streamed the first episodes of Shinkenger and Samurai side by side, and it was pretty crazy to see. Amazing that they could stick somewhat close to the actual plot while changing it completely.

They're definitely trying to cash in on older MMPR fans with Samurai, but Shinkenger isn't the right series to do this with. Could've tried it with Gokaiger, maybe. It's more over the top and less atmospheric so the extreme cheesiness might have suited it better.

Kiva and Den-O are in the same universe. I guess you could argue that Den-O and OOO are too, which is where things start to get dangerous. ; ;

Neg
03-01-2011, 07:21 AM
Den-O and the Shocker universe are the same, based on this new movie. Though, that movie probably connects everything in a superficial sense.

If someone would like to write a thesis stating that the Den and Zero-liners travel through dimensions as well as time, I'd be happy to entertain the notion.

Marceline
03-01-2011, 07:25 AM
And of course, Shocker's been confirmed to have an impact in multiple universes via Decade. ; ;

There's got to be some consistent way to travel dimensions in the Kamen Rider universe. I can definitely buy that both liners are capable of inter-dimensional travel, too. I'd love to see an indepth thesis, though. Wish I'd saved that awesome Decade theory someone wrote, I feel like it would help here.

I really like the Gokaiger costumes too, Allen! Love the weapons too, the whole pirate aesthetic is really working for me.

I wonder how the Battle Fight works. How Undead are assigned to suits and numbers, exactly.

Tiger beat Slash Lizard. What were they before that happened? How far up did she move, how far down did he?

Looking at my card site in full, they just have pics of King Form as the Navy Joker. I imagine Kenzaki just has to rouze Caucasus a la Wild Chalice and Paradoxa, now. Still, it doesn't seem like Kenzaki needs an equivalent of Spirit to return to his human form. If King Form is the Navy Joker, that sort of necessitates that those Undead are always available for his use. Would 13 new species of Undead be created to fill the ranks of the tournament bracket if there was a resolution between him and Hajime and a new Battle Fight started?

I hadn't noticed 1. The Flower glyph has dragonfly wings in some petals. 2. The Seahorse glyph has the Fibonacci spiral on its side. 3. The Smoke glyph face you mentioned. 4. I don't think I've seen the horn at all yet.

Everything else I noticed. Including that annoying yellow dot. I thought it may be an Easter egg and I was trying to highlight the bastard thing so I could hit enter. it didn't work.

I think 555 might have gone the fastest for me? I just got sucked in and I felt like the whole thing went by really quickly. I've watched Den-O through OOO as they aired, so can't really rate any of those.

Took me a good while to finish Kuuga. I'd actually rank it as one of my favorite series, but I think the thing about Kuuga is that it was often easy to stop after just 1-2 episodes and I didn't have a huge drive to watch a bunch in one days.

I'd guess that Ryuki took me the longest. I wouldn't qualify it as having a slow start, exactly, but I didn't really get into it until all of the show's main characters had showed up. I was biased against it at first too, on account of the CG and the card system, so there's that.

Tachibana is a pretty great team operator. Seems like such a natural fit for him.

Don't want to spoil you, but the storyline for the Missing Ace riders is very, very different in Decade. I think I was remembering them more fondly then I should of when you first started talking about Glaive to me just because I really did find them all to be fairly likable and interesting characters there.

They're movie only riders, and like you said, they're villains, so I'm glad they got the chance to do something else with them, especially with the same actors. Always awesome for me when Decade pulled stuff like that off.

The opening credit sequence was supposed to represent? The horizontally flipped cityscape which was right way up at the end. I was wondering about that too.

During the opening I thought "hmm...that produces somewhat of a fascinating effect".

Then they flipped it around at the end and it baffled me as why they did that and was it supposed to reflect on something my tiny little brain didn't pick up on?
perhaps because it starts off as hopeless everything is doom and gloom (the earth is pointing downwards towards Hell).....then at the end that's flipped around and gives the viewer a sense of hope that God (earth is pointing towards Heaven) must exist if the Devil does too. Not everybody is bent on revenge and still has the ability to forgive. I know lame....but that's all I got. :p

----

on a similar note: apparently the movie made 3 times it budget back so the studio is more than happy to allow M. Night to complete his Night Chronicle thing.

The next installment is supposed to be somewhat of a supernatural courtroom story?

and the one after that might actually be continuing the Unbreakable mythology. :D

and then step back into familiar grounds with Scream 3, before 4 comes out.

and after those "light" write-ups

*takes breath*

and then it's onto tackling the top 10 of '10 which I'm having a helluva time narrowing it down from 12 to 10.

18 minutes?

Doh! I linked the wrong one. It was extended into a feature 2 years later. I fixed the link above. :-P

I've not heard Dragon.

I'm a total NIN fanboy but I'll admit he sometimes fucks up. (Most of Year Zero springs to mind.) I don't have the ability to analyse music like you do. I did love the score. Had it on yesterday again. :D

I'm looking forward to that. I hope it's something I've heard. If not, I'll have to seek it out before reading.
