Learning to read in Japanese is pretty important for playing their games, though! Which is a shame because it's really difficult to learn. I wish they didn't focus on learning how to write stuff, though. I will never have any need for that.


The problem with all learning Japanese methods I've come across is that they want you to learn to read and write the symbols as soon as possible. That's bs! That's not how people learn languages. We learn by hearing and learning to say words and then amass tons of sentences.... then we learn how to read and write..... that process is so much easier than doing it the other way around.

One thing to help is that most characters have a plethora of smaller characters inside.

I can mostly just read kana, and not well (I know maybe 10-20 kanji), but kanji is supposedly easier to learn once you have a good grip on kana. Some games and comics use kana, but sadly I will have to become better at reading kanji before I can play anything. My kana isn't good enough to play games anyways, though. I could read a menu or yes/no, but I could figure that out without reading.

...heard some of James Horner's score for Spidey today.

Odd that he keeps a lot of Elfman's orchestral elements and even the electronic pulse he used.

Very similar in tone to Elfman's score.

Always pleasant surprise to hear scores with orchestral textures and not just muddy uninspired synthesized soundscapes.

Look under "Account" settings and "Privacy" settings. Might be different now that you have mobile connected.
Try looking through app on your phone first. The app should have different options than PC/Tablet FB options.

I've been looking at the trailer music to Prometheus. With the screech.
I've dissected several frequency ranges to try and isolate the sound.

It's a fun little project, which will come in handy for later projects, let's say when I edit an Event Horizon trailer with the Prometheus teaser music.

And i've noticed, at the 1k mark, the screech sound (of which I believe to be the core of the sound) is more or less a sonar ping.
When isolated from the rest of its frequency counterparts that is.

Looking at the other possible frequency patterns, it seems the rest of the sound is just modulated or flangered into a neat mechanical sound.
Designed to mask the sonar. And giving us, the screech.

A sonar would be fitting. Since they "homed in on its beacon". And in the second movie, the sonar senors they carry are also sonar-based. Not the same sound, a much more pleasing sound effect.

And since spaceships can be equated to nautical characteristics, a sonar ping would be most insightful to use in the trailer.
As it's all about the discovery of the alien species.

I only know a few I can laugh at. One of my former classmates got a degree in like religious studies of some sort. She was smart, what a waste. Now we both have menial jobs, but I'm not 40,000 bucks in debt.

There is a rhythm karaoke game in the Yakuza series I play. It's 100% optional, just there for fun but it gets insanely hard. If you do well you get a cut scene, I played just to see those. They're funny.

I used to play Guitar Hero with a friend. We'd get rubbered and knock out a duo. Great fun. Don't know if I'd play it alone and sober.

I guess it is the same kind of game. Seems more interactive somehow having a peripheral. If GH was just buttons on a regular PS3 controller I don't think I would enjoy it the same.

Trying to study and dissect icon files....... Doc's mushrooms were for Windows 7? Those work here on xp..... must figure out why my rupees are looking squished....

I decided when I get all the programs I normally use icons made I'm going to take it further and make more for other programs I may not use myself. I want to make as many as I can and make a blog for all these icons. I feel like all my work already would be squandered if I'm the only one that's going to use them...

What's some other well known/used programs? I thought of some others I don't use..... so far what I can think of and what I already made... I don't think ie deserves one.... might make one for it though.... but honestly anyone who's going to be savvy enough to look for icons most likely isn't going to be using ie...
