And homosexuality was common in the Greek city states, but would not become acceptable in Roman society until the late Republic era. Let's get our history of bigotry right, TYVM. Actually, the heavy duty religion comes out of the North. It started with the Puritans in Plymouth and Boston, as well as the Quakers in Philadelphia. Even Baptists started in New England. The whole obsession with the Apocalypse started with one guy, Williams Miller, who in 1822 was a preacher in upstate New York. His followers, while waiting for the Rapture, moved to the Midwest, where their descendents still are. Waves and waves of immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th centuries diluted their presence in the North, which is why they aren't as twitchy as the rest of the country.

He adapted Kingdom Hospital, I want to say it was a Danish show originally? I actually enjoyed it quite a bit, but it was weird and had some big flaws. There was just enough I liked to make up for it.

I actually think 11/22/63 and On Writing are two of the best books he's ever written. On Writing might have been written before the accident and just published after, though. I never really got into The Dark Tower series, so I don't have the vitriol for him a lot of people seem to. He has some bad tendencies as a writer, but he seems like a cool dude and has written a lot I really really like. His short stories are the best. Longer than you think, Dad! It's longer than you think~

Actually, the heavy duty religion comes out of the North. It started with the Puritans in Plymouth and Boston, as well as the Quakers in Philadelphia. Even Baptists started in New England. The whole obsession with the Apocalypse started with one guy, Williams Miller, who in 1822 was a preacher in upstate New York. His followers, while waiting for the Rapture, moved to the Midwest, where their descendents still are. Waves and waves of immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th centuries diluted their presence in the North, which is why they aren't as twitchy as the rest of the country.

I'm really interested in collecting some of the character memories, but since I haven't been buying any older figures, they've been too cheap to get. That sounds weird but I know you know exactly what I mean. I could maybe find them on ebay or if I checked actual sell threads more often. I think I've just been hoping for a good opportunity to buy them to rise up. I'll order from Mandarake again someday, I'm sure.

Even though I was ultimately disappointed by the handling of OOO himself, I still love my Tatoba memory. Wouldn't mind getting more of those either, those songs are so damned catchy and it's way more fun to click and play the sounds than it should be.

Can any lurkers read Japanese? My friend was sent an article from U.S. Embassy Tokyo regarding international parental child abduction, but it's in Japanese, and with Google translate it's hard to tell what information might be important. Probably a long shot, but if someone could scan it and let me know if something important is there, I would really appreciate it.

Anything involving changing laws or parents getting custody of their children back would be especially useful.

OOO can be so difficult sometimes :ashine: The system is amazing. Flat out amazing. And, I can't hate Shu like Kuroda Yuuki. Sometimes I just want to hug him and apologize for the way his character panned out. He sings almost all the songs and all of them are fantastic, save...Shout Out? That one is weird. I still listen to them.

The Wonderful movie almost makes me as sad as it makes me happy. If he could have been that forceful and competent in the show.... If Cakeboss had had an example that good of how Desire will save the world within the series.... If CLAWS had been used for practical purposes instead of an anniversary show...

If all the combos had been used instead of post-movie gimmickry and that thing. That lame thing in the sky......

I haven't seen any Zeronos and Deneb memories on ebay in a LONG time :( Mainly it's just main rider memories.

They're on Mandarake a lot. Usually 800-1000 yen. Usually not both up at the same time. There are two figures I'll probably turn to Mandarake for eventually, so maybe I can get one with each. ;)

I still hate them for having that tease early on of OOO with the awesome fluid combo switching and then never really delivering on that. ; ; It could've been so good. And I mean, they wouldn't have had any problem selling toys that way. I don't get why things wound up as they did. I really like when movies seem to address things that went wrong or just weren't really dealt with in the series, though. From a fan fulfillment perspective, but also because it makes me think they get where they messed up. Makes me feel good about ~the future of Kamen Rider~, or whatever. Even though Fourze's fight scenes often drive me crazy. :laugh: At least the henshins are great.

It's pretty amazing how they progressed in terms of OOO movies. Core is brain cancer. 40th Ann'y is good. Wonderful is.....wonderful >_> So, yes, I think they do learn from their mistakes.

Core deserves an extra special place in hell for making me worry about the second half of Hibiki.

I have some problems with the second half of Hibiki. I'm pretty sure I basically told you what they were before you watched the show. :laugh: But, it has one of my favorite toku story arcs EVER, so I can deal with the stuff I don't like. Hopin' you know what arc I mean. :)

I really wish we'd gotten to see some of the other riders they wound up not introducing, and I really wish

Akira hadn't quit her oni training and we'd seen Kamen Rider Amaki

But, I feel like they had a lot of great characters and it's fine they spent their time with them. Though I wish Tuxedo Kamen Rider had gotten a little more storytime too.

I know the creator didn't get the ending he wanted (always planned), but as strange as it is, I'm really glad he didn't, because I love the way they did end it. It went against expectations and showed how special and strong their bond was, more than the stock ending could have. In my opinion, anyway.

Zanki's last arc. So many goosebumps, so many times. Zanki is so badass he can outlast death, Todoroki has one of the best growth arcs in Kamen Rider, and the two have the most perfect goodbye two oni could have. Beautiful.

Todoroki is so much love ;; If someone hates him they have no soul. Period.

They really nailed the different ways mentor/mentee relationships develop/are maintained/end. I really have a hard time seeing what there is to hate about it. Even if it isn't in the usual Rider mold, that doesn't make it bad. Sit back and watch the damn thing. I don't see how you could be disappointed. They get around to riding and it even makes for some great moments.

It's from Kamen Rider Decade, but I wouldn't recommend watching it if you're not familiar with Kamen Rider.

If you want to watch guys fight giant monsters with musical instruments, Kamen Rider Hibiki comes highly recommended. Lemme see if I can up the show for you (and Allen!).

That was from Decade, which is an anniversary series. He can turn into the past 9 Heisei Riders. That was the Final Form Ride of Hibiki, the titular rider from the series we've been talking about the last little while.

Basically Hibiki riders fight monsters with sound. Music. It's a great concept. There are percussive Oni that use taiko drums, wind Oni that use wind instruments, and guitar Oni that use....guitars XD

Well...I know that under the name power rangers. but I didn't really watched it. I thought the adaptation thing was kind of lame. THe first sentais that came to France were not adaptations. original cast, original music (save for the op theme), and so on.

I really liked some of these. got crystal clear memories of Sharivan and Jiraya.

And if you want a nice book to start with, start with "The strange Case of Charles Dexter Ward". it's a short novel. then go on with the "shunned house", "Call of Cthulhu", "the Dunwich Horror" and "The Shadow over Innsmouth". For nyarlathotep stories, there's the "Quest for Unknown Kadath", "Rats in the Walls", "Haunter of the dark" and "Dreams in the Witch House". there are hundreds of short stories from various authors that feature him, just like any other deity of the mythos.

In some ways, I'd like to know more about Sentai, but it's harder to get stuff post-Megaupload, and mech lines are ungodly expensive. You can get most Rider toys and even most figuarts for good to tolerable prices. Mech lines....:notgood:

Matter of Fact, the Draft had pretty bad press here when it was still in use because of what happened during the Indochine and Algerian wars. basically, lots of conscripts died, while they shouldn't have been sent on the front. or they were sent without proper training, or with crazed officer that used torture, napalm, slaughters and rape as "psychological warfare". 60 years later we still discover new things about these wars. and said things are often ugly. really ugly.

Yes and no. All regions, yes. PAL, no.

You'll get wavy images going across the screen. Like those bad porn channels on rabbit ears antennas.
North America has NTSC screens.

30 scan lines of resolution.
PAL has about 50/60 scan lines per resolution.
The video image is panned across a set number of lines to give the best quality.

We have NTSC, which is alright.
But, PAL has better resolution as they have more scan lines per image. Nearly double.

However, converting to NTSC will often downgrade quality severely.
Same principle as FLAC to MP3 then AAC or something or other.

A PC, you can upgrade the graphics card, memory, CPU, and everything else so you can grab the stronger upscaling media players: ArcSoft Total Media Player... there's another one I use. I'll find the name later. I quite enjoy it for HD playback.

If your hardware supports Nvidia CUDA decoding, that's all the more better.
Or the Intel equivalet, Quick Media.
Hardware assisted decoding is the best option.

DVD players don't have that power or capability. They do average upscaling with minimal options.

Is there a better h.264 to avi converter than All to Avi? AtA is great for everything except .264. It always comes out bad.

I'm currently using XMedia Recode (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/XMedia-Recode).

Hundreds of formats supported, hundreds of profiles readily available.

The only thing thats odd about it imo is the blue uniform. It kind of looks too SWATish. All in all, looks like a pretty good merc setup.

It is SWAT. We got the body armor and overalls for free from a company that provides every commando and SWAT team on TV and in movies. The leather jacket was the actors. The scarf was one Deb picked up in Paris. All we bought was the helmet and the googles. He was supposed to have cables following his muscle lines up the legs, but we couldn't find a way to rig it. On screen the blue all goes black. All you notice are the googles and the scarf.
