The rights to The Hobbit was tied up almost forever so they had to make LotR 1st.

having read the huge "Making of Star Wars" book Lucas actually wanted to do a new Flash Gordon movie but the rights were too pricey and if he did pony up the money he'd have had no control over most of the production so he started his own space opera serial movie. It was going to be just the one "Star Wars" movie no sequels no prequels just the one film and then he'd move onto Apocalypse Now and a bunch of other productions he was planning on. He hit pay dirt and decided to option 2 more films and when Star Wars was re-released he added the "Episode IV A New Hope" to the beginning as an homage to how you never really went to go see an episode of Flash Gordon, you went to see a bunch of other movies with flash as a bonus so you often would be in the middle of a particular story line and would be updated with the crawl.

Having finished 3 Star Wars movies he decided to both take a break from them but also plan on making a Prequel series and sequel series but would not get to those until he did a few of his other projects and have better tech for special effects.

We all got shafted after having to wait like 20 years for new movies expecting him to have been working on them instead all he really had was like 20 pages of back story notes along with a bunch of setting and characters form the earlier drafts.

I think the thing is that with Matrix the 1st one was great but most people didn't like or get the last 2 so the fan base isn't as big and demand for more stories isn't as high as it should be. The Matrix really deserves a good video game. It's one of those things that's perfect for it. The one problem with Expanded Universe Matrix stuff is the fact that unlike star wars which is a huge space opera with thousands of worlds spanning thousands of years with billions of people the matrix is stuck on earth with a small population of humans in a lop sided fight against robots. You can get a whole bunch of stories out of that setting, just look at Animatrix but no where near as many as star wars.

You should find like minded DomaMatrixes and form some kind of guild to get more Matrix stuff going.

TV has been a lot better than movies in the last few years, or at least I think so. With some notable exceptions (horror movies, superhero stuff), it's just harder for me to get invested in movies. I want big story arcs and character development over the course of many episodes. That's not to say there's not still good stuff, just a lot less that gets me enthused. And of course, there's terrible television, but I already like too much stuff so that's really not a problem for me.

I wish the US would do more shows that were a single season or just 2 seasons or something though, like pretty much every other country in the world does.

Manga is something I hugely prefer on the computer because I find the binding is often really bad. I wish they'd do big nice hardcover releases like they do with western comics, I would buy a nice edition of 20th Century Boys in a heartbeat.

Yep, in most European countries, nudity is no big deal, certainly not the "evil" that it is here. It can be a refreshing change. Reid and I partook of the local nudist club for years. It was a very relaxed atmosphere, and some of the nicest folks I have ever met.

There's a hobby shop that I get to every great once in awhile and they usually have a few Gundams there. Lately though, they've only been carrying Seed stuff :sad: I built a shiny Wing Zero Custom not too long ago. And I have my all-time favorite Deathscythe Hell Custom to build :drool: I just have to figure out how I want the paint scheme........... I bought my bf a certain gouf model he had been looking years for. Just need more shelf space to put them when we're done :laugh: They're a decent size....

Stickering is one of the most terrifying things on this planet and I would be absolutely willing to pay like $10-20 more for a toy if they'd just sticker EVERYTHING for me. Not even kidding.

Candy toy/Mini-pla mecha are cool in terms of articulation, but fuck giant stickers and intricate stickers.

Testimonial from my bf, don't use the Gundam brand paint markers. The paint flakes off after it dries.


With the Wing Zero I built, the white parts of the suit were already pre-painted silver and the red + blue parts were already colored when it was molded. The red and blue wasn't shiny though so I repainted those parts with Testor's metallic spray paint... The metallics work great but their regular spray enamels are absolute trash.

Forgot to mention on the wing zero, there were no 'stickers'. The green eyes were translucent green molded plastic and the 'jewel' piece on the chest was a jewel type sticker that you couldn't possibly get in the wrong place.


On the lvl 1 model though that was all stickers. My little lvl 1 sitting on my shelf looks so dumb but it's so damn nostalgic :laugh:

I use can-o-air to get the loose stuff off then take a cheap dollar store paintbrush and wet it then wash the crevasses. Legos you can just take apart and toss in an old ice cream bucket with dish soap to clean. If you have an old colander then rinse them with that and let air dry on a towel.

I hear that you can make display stands for hole in foot toys by finding a nail or screw that fits the peg hole then cutting it down to fit so that only a bit is left after insertion and then plopping out a thin layer of hot glue onto tin foil then sticking the bit of nail in. Once it dries peel off foil and you have a stand.

I might need to remember this the next time I get a little pack of figures.... I bought a couple packs last year and I almost lost the tiny bits for the stand on my Tales of Symphonia ones......... I bought a pack of Lucky Star ones and somehow they packed in 2 of Kagami's left pigtails..... no right one. I had to sit down with one of them and whittle it down a bit so I could get it to fit inside and then glue it in....

Now I'm imagining Kagami with pigtails.....

I have a 1/350 scale model of the Enterprise from the first movie that i have not built yet. All those multi-colored panels covering the hull? They are sheets of decals on this kit. The whole ship, all decals. Water slide ones. Neg's worst nightmare incarnate...:D

quite the contrary, actually. In the recent year, France has got more and more prude again. On the only gundam models I've ever bought, I threw the stickers away, and got the job down with citadel paint (back when Games workshop still sold GOOD paint. fuck'em now.)

TV has been a lot better than movies in the last few years, or at least I think so. With some notable exceptions (horror movies, superhero stuff), it's just harder for me to get invested in movies. I want big story arcs and character development over the course of many episodes. That's not to say there's not still good stuff, just a lot less that gets me enthused. And of course, there's terrible television, but I already like too much stuff so that's really not a problem for me.


TV's been kicking some serious ass in the past 10 years.


We need to go back down there. Rough 'em up.

It happens. Lately I just read the wiki on it if it has one.
The Zodiac Killer almost got me to read a book, but the wiki was enough. The main guy from the Gylenhaal movie was apparently not the guy according to DNA, so that book would have been a waste. I believe Unsolved had a segment on that where some kid found the potato sack hood in a VCR and now believes his stepfather did it. Not sure if anything came of it.

In the past decade Lego has actually started to make a bunch of detailing that normally would have been painted onto the parts stickers you have to put on yourself. This is most likely a cost reducing thing but the one up side is that now you have the option of having the part "plain" and thus can use it with other builds and not have star wars or harry potter shit all over it.

That funny thing is that character isn't even in the actual Queen's Blade but is an original character design made as a figure for fun. Note the submachine guns with knifes on them. However the lead in the show did piss herself in the 1st few episodes when the pink slime lady beat her up in their 1st fight.

One thing I find interesting is how Japanese can have "big' "small" noses. Like it's small yet the nostrils can be somewhat wide sorta like black people.

Anna and Johan are actually supposed to be identical (Monster is my favorite but it doesn't work like that guys) but her nose is definitely smaller than Johan's. Still long-ish though, I guess. I haven't seen all of the Monster anime. Wonder if they changed some stuff near the end. There's definitely stuff I would consider doing away with. The anime seems really close to the manga though, from what I've seen.

I have the first 3 volumes of the manga and read the rest via scanlation because that's all that was at the bookstore and I was hooked from the first volume. I should complete it someday. I wouldn't mind having a whole shelf dedicated to Naoki Urasawa and Osamu Tezuka. :love: I'm generally more into anime than manga, but I'll read anything by them or Junji Ito.

Hearing a Scots voice after those American accents was very comforting for me. That woman was especially horrible.

I watched an hour long talk he did about stuff that is of interest to me. He was utterly wasted on some kind of Class B drug and alcohol but he was making sense most of the time. Unfortunately the audience hadn't a damn clue what to make of ideas that were new to them. I don't get my education from the feckin TV so I was open to his words. He did good.

Missed this before! You should try to put your RPG writing out there. You're obviously passionate about it and I think that's the sort of stuff people like to read. I am amazed at how much I've been able to accomplish in just 4-5 months or so, even if it's nothing huge. It's definitely something you could do too. I think it has more to do with persistence than anything else. ;) And, if you want to write for a living, willingness to write about hemorrhoids and erectile dysfunction in addition to writing about the stuff you actually like~ Because that's where the money is, butts and peen.

I can't think of a single Newman action score.

He must have scored at least one.

Sam Mendes doesn't strike me as an action director either.

Perhaps the new Bond will focus more on James' dysfunctional family and relationships. :P

i think it will be a change in pace from quantum and royale.

i'm glad to see a break from arnold. i'm glad they went with a composer that isn't big on action. i think action scores by those types tend to be more interesting, less formulaic.

i've never been a big thomas newman fan...but this could change.


Newman's been pretty off for the past 10 years or so.

I haven't really enjoyed a lot of his stuff as of recent which is a shame.

He had a really unique voice that just got too repetitive after awhile.
