My school didn't have weekend detention, they had work detail? Where you were supposed to pick up trash after school, or something.

I got it once for a really bizarre reason. At my school, the traffic was so bad that you either had to get to school way before it started, or be really late. My friends and I chose the way before it started option. People hung out and talked, ate breakfast, scrambled to do their homework, but my friend and I took a different option.

Each day, we would spend way too much time stacking chairs into an elaborate pyramid. We'd try something different every day. Did it for probably a week. One day, they were watching to see who did it, and sent us to the office. They didn't even know how to address it at all, and mostly seemed to be really confused. They said we couldn't do it because the janitors were sick of undoing our handiwork every day and gave us work detail, just to do something. If I'd been snarkier I would have protested, since we weren't breaking any rules, just being a bit obnoxious, but I went along with it. I didn't show up at work detail (I think I had to actually work) and no one ever said anything.

Ikea To Enter Home Electronics Market


Swedish electronics chains, already battling a sinking market, will be forced to compete on a whole new scale as Swedish furniture giant Ikea launches plans to enter the market with a new range of furniture with built-in electronics.



�We have great expectations for this. I think we can step in and create a new market, a new way to use home electronics in the living room,� said Tolga �ncu, sales manager for Ikea Sweden, to news agency TT.

According to Ikea, the start will be a range of living room furniture called Uppleva -- a Swedish word which means 'Experience' in English -- designed to house a built-in TV and home cinema system.

�With this integrated audio-visual piece we can offer attractive, wireless and affordable solutions to our many customers. Uppleva is an innovative step into a new market for Ikea,� �ncu said in a statement.

However, according to Jonas Arnberg, a consultant at HUI Research, (formerly the Swedish Retail Institute), Ikea�s new venture was unexpected.

�It is a business where none of the main operators are doing particularly well. What everyone is waiting for is one to disappear and instead another enters the race,� he told TT.

Arnberg does not think that Ikea's foray into home electronics will do as well as the Swedish retailer's venture into the white goods market has done.

�If it is indeed possible that Ikea underestimates something, this might be it. This is an incredibly tough business, �said Arnberg to TT.

Ikea is set to start selling their furniture with built in electronics in five countries in June. The products will then be launched globally in 2013.

Norway Mass Murderer: "I would have done it again"


OSLO, Norway (AP) — Norwegian gunman Anders Behring Breivik insisted Tuesday he would massacre 77 people all over again, calling his July rampage the most "spectacular" attack by a nationalist militant since World War II.

Reading a prepared statement in court, the anti-Muslim extremist lashed out at Norwegian and European governments for embracing immigration and multiculturalism. He claimed to be speaking as a commander of an anti-Islam militant group he called the Knights Templar — a group that prosecutors say does not exist.

Maintaining he acted out of "goodness, not evil" to prevent a wider civil war, Breivik vowed, "I would have done it again."

Pressed by prosecutors to explain what he meant, he compared his attacks to the U.S. dropping atomic bombs on Japan to bring World War II to an end.

"They did it for something good, to prevent further war," Breivik said.

Breivik has five days to explain why he set off a bomb in Oslo's government district on July 22, killing eight people, and then gunned down 69 others, mostly teenagers, at a Labor Party youth camp outside the Norwegian capital. He denies criminal guilt, saying he was acting in self-defense, and claims the targets were part of a conspiracy to "deconstruct" Norway's cultural identity.

"The attacks on July 22 were a preventive strike. I acted in self-defense on behalf of my people, my city, my country," he said as he finished his statement, in essence a summary of the 1,500-page manifesto he posted online before the attacks. "I therefore demand to be found innocent of the present charges."

He compared Norway's Labor Party youth wing to the Hitler Youth and called their annual summer gathering an "indoctrination" camp. But he later told prosecutors he would have preferred to attack a conference of Norwegian journalists instead, but wasn't able to carry out that "operation."

Breivik's testimony was delayed briefly Tuesday after one of the five judges hearing the case was dismissed for his comments online the day after the attack — comments that said Breivik deserves the death penalty. Lawyers on all sides had requested that lay judge Thomas Indreboe be taken off the trial, saying the comments violated his impartiality. He was replaced by backup lay judge Elisabeth Wisloeff.

Norway doesn't have the death penalty. If found mentally sane — the key issue to be decided in the trial — Breivik could face a maximum 21-year prison sentence or an alternate custody arrangement that would keep him locked up as long as he is considered a menace to society.

Breivik is being tried by a panel of two professional judges and three lay judges — citizens appointed for four-year terms who participate on an equal basis in deciding guilt and sentencing. The system is designed to let ordinary people have a role in the Norwegian justice system.

On Monday, Breivik rejected the authority of the court, calling it a vehicle of the "multiculturalist" political parties in power in Norway. He confessed to the "acts" that caused the 77 deaths but pleaded not guilty.

Again on Tuesday — just like Monday at the start of his trial — Breivik entered the court smirking before flashing a clenched-fist salute.

According to Breivik, Western Europe was gradually taken over by "Marxists and multiculturalists" after World War II because it didn't have "anti-communist" leaders like U.S. Sen. Joseph McCarthy. The senator dominated the early 1950s with his sensational but unproven charges of Communist subversion in high government circles in the U.S.

"But even McCarthy was too moderate," Breivik said.

Judge Wenche Elisabeth Arntzen repeatedly interrupted Breivik, asking him to keep his statement short.

"It is critically important that I can explain the reason and the motive" for the massacre, Breivik replied.

Mette Yvonne Larsen, a lawyer representing victim's families, also interrupted Breivik, saying she was getting complaints from victims who were concerned that the defendant was turning the trial into a platform to profess his extremist views.

Her remarks prompted the judge to again urge Breivik to wrap it up. But Breivik replied if he wasn't allowed to continue he might not speak at all.

He warned that Europe was heading toward a civil war between "nationalists and internationalists." He said he was inspired by al-Qaida's success, and praised Europeans suspected of right-wing extremist attacks. They included Peter Mangs, a Swede suspected of shootings against immigrants in 2010 and three Germans — Uwe Boehnhardt, Uwe Mundlos and Beate Zschaepe — suspected in the killings of eight people of Turkish origin, a Greek man and a German policewoman between 2000 and 2007.

Asked why he started crying in court on Monday, when prosecutors showed an anti-Muslim film that Breivik posted on YouTube before the attacks, he said: "I was thinking about Norway and Europe, which are ruled by politicians and journalists killing our country. I was thinking that my country is dying."

Breivik insisted that the Knights Templar network exists, with two other cells in Norway, though he said his description of it in the manifesto was too "pompous." The intiation rites and medals of honor he described were ideas, rather than existing traditions, he said.

After proceedings ended Tuesday, prosecutors reiterated they don't believe the group is real, and said they would question Breivik more about it Wednesday.

Families of the victims were upset at his testimony.

I never got suspended until a few months before graduation.

I have a buddy who plays.

He's funny.

Hardcore noise punk. One of the leading noise artists in Vancouver....

...but every year, he goes to Romania for 4 months, studies violin and plays the most extravagant type of music far from what he normally does.

I started back in Middle School, and kind of had an on-again off-again relationship with the thing.

Because of my fibro there's been long stretches when I haven't be able to play because it was too painful to grip it 'properly' or, well, sour notes or HORRIBAD to do when you've got a headache.

Still, every now and then, it's nice to get the old girl cleaned up and try and playing some random music.

Cool, man. :) I wish I could play violin and not make it sound like a dying cat who swallowed a mouthful of kitty litter.

Playing music is great fun.

I find it to be very therapeutic when you get it right.

When you don't....then it's just really frustrating.

It's amazing the reaction live music gets from people of all ages.

Particularly young children and senior's.

Ah the recorder. At first I was really awful. couldn't play shit. then I got ill and had to stay home with near nothing to do for one month. I trained nearly non stock, between fits of coughing and sneezing.

I just remember how sexy the 1000 was when I got it on launch day back in '05. Also, I've gotten rid of most of my PSP games, since I now have mostly digital copies, but I still have Final Fantasy Tactics the War of the Lions and Hot Shots Golf collecting dust if you want them. I got Hot Shots, because of an exploit they had, to play NES and SNES games on one of the older PSP firmware updates, but I could never get SNES games to play. As for FFT, I have a digital copy that I've been playing on my Vita, so the UMD is just an extra that's practically brand new, due to my OCD habbits of keeping everything super neat.

When I beat the original on PSone back in '07 they had the same slowdown issues, then when WotL came out for PSP I started to wonder if it was actually slowdown or a lousy excuse to create "slow-mo" as a dramatic effect. Either way, I've never had an issue with it.

It's a lot of reasons. The 1000s are built better, I'm feeling nostalgic and I love how flush the screen is. When the 2000 and 3000 came out it bugged me how there was this gap along the edge of the screen, and holes were made for the different light indicators. It's like picking the fat PS2 or PS3 over the slim. There's just that something about it.

That totally makes sense! I just wasn't sure what the differences were, I've never compared two of them against each other. Glad to know my PSP is extra awesome. ^__^

What are everyone's favorite PSP games? It has such an awesome looking library. Especially if you're a weeaboo like me.

I qquite enjoyed the sidekick adventures of both Clank and Daxter, the Need for Speed was fun, I bought Dracula X just to play SotN, bur you can just DL that straight from PSN now with some tweaks for each version. I kinda miss the cheesy voice acting since it was all rerecorded. I never got around to trying it, but I heard the Soul Calibur IV port or companion piece whatever was pretty good.

Mortal Kombat Unchained was one of my favorite PSP games. It was practically a port of Deception, but with Goro and Shao Kahn from the GC version and Jax, Kitana, Blaze, and a few other characters added back into the game. The only thing it didn't have was the Area 51 demo.

I've played some of the first Dissidia! Terra :swoon: I'll get that one or the second one (or both?) eventually.

I'd recommend the second one if you haven't played much of the first. It features more characters (for every FF up to XIII) and has a more in-depth story mode (which also includes the first Dissidia's story mode too). That said, it has some annoying bugs with the camera and targeting, and characters have been 'tweaked', to the point that all the Chaos characters are now super-powerful.

And the AI still blatantly cheats. :p

Also, Shantotto and Gabranth are now available for 'purchase' in the PP Store from the start and don't require unlocking. :)

Haven't finished KH: Birth By Sleep but its good so far.

Umm... I gotta go with the FFT, the Third Birthday, Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, WipEout Pure (my first PSP game ever). Crisis Core was ok, got close to the end but then I just stopped playing. Believe it or not, but LittleBigPlanet was a dissapointment.

Edit: Ooh, gotta have my PSone classics! Final Fantasy VI, Crash Bandicoot, Um Jammer Lammy, Mega Man 3 (in the Japanese import section of the PS Store), Silent Hill, Final Fantasy VII and IX, WipEout and Castlevania Symphony of the Night.

One Whole Unit: Blood was a really sucky game. I hate that I waited thirty minutes for the torrent to such a sucky game.

Shows you've got no fuckin' taste, sweetie.

I like Atlus games on the PSP.

Oh I forgot about Ys: Ark of Napishtim. I just like saying Napishtim.
Lumines was a good little puzzler. (Don't listen to Doc)
The Twisted Metal was pretty ok.

I almost got Ys Seven! Heard that is one of the best and it was really cheap. Backtalking treasure chests won out, though.

Ihave Verizon. No complaints. I picked it because talking to other Verizon customers is free and pretty much my entire family has it. I want a new phone but there is no middle ground anymore. It is either the little cheap-o phones or full on data plan smartphones. I don't use my phone for anything like streaming or gaming, but I prefer something more substantial than the bottom of the barrel phones they offer.

Wow, I miss Wild Arms. I loved the intro. Only thing that turned me off when it came out was my unnecessary impulse to compare it to FF7. I honestly didn't know how to appreciate it back then.

I played through and enjoyed PE. Not so much PE2, I gave up a few hours into it. The Third Birthday, on the other hand, is much less drama and "horror", and more action packed monster killing. It plays more like a shooter, unlike PE that had a little more strategy with minor RPG elements in it's battle system. That said, don't expect to actually play PE3, it's a fun game, but nothing like PE1 and 2.

It's Photoshopped. You could get some things past the censors back then but not much. And not that. This would have to get past the animator, the inbetweener, the inker, the cel painter, the cameraman, the editor, the producer and the director, and that's before you get to the network and Standards and Practices.

It's amazing what has gotten out, although admittedly it's later.
The dog shitting in a background painting in ALFTales. That when on the run, Poison Ivy and Harley have a single (small) bed. And so on.

Most of the anime I like is pretty emotionally draining. :laugh: But it's because it sucks me in so much. And, sometimes, because the writers are evil.

I thought about getting the Dissidia games, but then I realized that they give voices to characters who are silent. I don't want to run the risk of them somehow fucking up Terra and Kefka. UNACCEPTABLE.

First World Problems~

Kefka's VA is actually very well done and completely suits his character. Terra on the other hand... sounds too wimpy and little-girlish (not to mention, Dissidia's story seems to have conveniently forgotten the whole ending of FFVI and shown her still struggling with her Esper side which Kefka keeps manipulating.)

Actually, all the VAs in Dissidia for characters from non-speaking FF titles are pretty satisfactory (except for stupid X-Death. He really is wooden in more ways than one :P).

It is! If it's awesome, I'll probably try to import it. There are a lot of cool looking Kamen Rider games for the PSP but Climax Heroes looks the easiest to play.

It's great because if you watch Kamen Rider you can understand pretty much all the voice acting anyway.

I totally missed this. I think the Sentai equivalent of Climax Heroes (Ranger Cross) is Wii only, but I could be wrong. There are so many toku games for the PSP, they've got to be in one of them.
