Children of Men was wonderful. The one-shot sequence is fantastic. Genius.

"Shoot 'Em Up" was a hilarious over-the-top violent shitfest. He basically played a live action Bugs Bunny in human form....and Paul Giamatti played a Elmer Fudd type character.

Owen kills someone with a carrot and Giamatti even calls him a "wascally wabbit".

I had a quick look at Japanese verb conjugations and Jebus, they are weird. Well, compared to English they are. I guess they think the same about ours.

Japanese seems like a really efficient language to me at times. There are a lot of things that can be said in Japanese with a lot less words than it would take in English.

Then I remember how many alphabets they have and I cry about how hard learning to read in Japanese is. ;)

Sometimes it makes sense (their number system is totally logical) but sometimes it confuses me.
I don't think it is as adaptable as English. There is no stress on syllables, they are the same length and all vowels must be pronounced equally and rely on inflection to change the meaning. It would be very easy to be misunderstood and come across as an arrogant gaijin while trying to be polite.
I would love to learn to speak it but like you say the effort needed to be able to write it would make me weep.

Doc, just finished "Mary & Max" (finally).

'Twas wonderful.

Funny, sad and thoughtful.

The colour palette was brilliant.

I loved the sense of humour. Very subtle. Had to keep your eyes open, as you might miss some hilarious detail.

Had to check out who directed it, because I recognized the art style.

Adam Elliot, he made a wonderful animated short called "Harvie Krumpet", which reminded alot of elements he used in "Mary & Max". Seek it out if you can.

Quite often I use elements from these "dittys" i write, in larger, more developed projects. I'll use something as simple as a "ratty old red baseball cap" or odd characters as background or supporting characters if they serve as something meaningful.

Dialogue I seem to have no problem with. It leaks out of my brain like it's always been there. It's the general backbone of a story that I quite often have problems with. :erm: ...i tend to wander off and spend more time with the mood, setting and supporting characters.

No, it doesn't help with what I'm stuck with at the moment either. I'm 4/5 complete, but keep on going back and deleting everything only to start fresh again. It's frustrating me to no end.

I need not bother introducing Star Wars - like tens of millions of people all around our little
planet, I went through a childhood phase of Star Wars madness that I haven't entirely

yeah....script writing is the easiest for me too. Well, not easy, but for me the most fun and rewarding. I love it. I could create speech patterns, various levels of character's vocabulary and style all day and night, if rent and bills would allow it.

Description or prose is extremely difficult for me. I can describe in a clear enough manner, but I can't do it in a very poetic style, the way some of my favorite authors do.

I've been toying around with a project for the past year or so, based solely on the opening scene. I based it around a setting I've always loved and then threw in the action of the characters, which was a different approach, but seems to be working out so far.

Script does seem easier. You can explain the characters in as much or little detail as you want. The dialogue is all there. background stuff can be noted without having to worry about interrupting the flow.

Script writing is easiest, but it can also be quite difficult when you're trying to fit as much as you can in a limited number of pages, without losing an even flowing narrative.

It was all right.......never quite became what I would have hoped it to be.

really ??? i just saw some of the "effects"....and that told me all i needed to know !!!!. I think they ought to go back and re-do the effects for ALIEN 3 [Alien running scenes] & that stop-motion cack at the end of TERMINATOR 1....then those movies will hold up for decades more !

Recently at a family holiday dinner, my folks were talking about a friend who had living things living under their skin. They said how they would "come up for air" every now and then. I didn't listen too closely, 'cuz.....gross. ....and if you heard the conversations my family have at the dinner table, you wouldn't listen either.

I wonder if this was what they were talking about.

I get convinced I have bugs under my skin sometimes (I don't). Basically I can actually feel the physical sensation of something moving under my skin even though it isn't happening. I remember reading something about it and it isn't terribly uncommon. Looked it up, it's called formication and the psychological component of it is delusional parasitosis.

I am pretty sure that it was a med side effect for me, because I haven't had it happen since the meds I'm on were changed.

Like the kappa, tanuki, tengu and hundreds more, the nuppeppo or nuppefuhofu (roughly meaning "blobby" or "lumpy") is one of Japan's widely recognized youkai dating back to centuries-old artwork.

I've only seen A Scanner Darkly once when it first came out........will watch it again. When Linklater is on....he is ON.

I've watched Scanner three or four times and each time I enjoy it more. I love the bit where they talk about the bicycle. I read the book last year. It's good. And I read a biography of Philip K Dick. Poor guy had it bad. Fantastic writer.

Wasn't all that bad. Not anywhere near as great as Ts 1 & 2 but the new JJ Abrams Chekov play Kiyle Reese and does a decent job at it & Bale, Brice Dallas Howard, Michael Ironside, & Helena Bonham Carter are all good but not in it all that much instead the main guy is Jake Sully for some reason.

I get convinced I have bugs under my skin sometimes (I don't). Basically I can actually feel the physical sensation of something moving under my skin even though it isn't happening. I remember reading something about it and it isn't terribly uncommon. Looked it up, it's called formication and the psychological component of it is delusional parasitosis.
