20+years has been a good run I'd say.

I asked about state because I think any programs that tend to help uninsured people are state specific. I know in Michigan there are clinics you can do that charge on a sliding, income based scale. I'd look for stuff like that. In Mass everyone has insurance, because we've basically has what Obamacare is for years.

If it wasn't painkillers, I'd suggest looking into painkillers online, but those are probably very difficult to get. I know I bought anxiety medication online for a while and it was insanely cheap.

Freelancer's insurance is generally crap but if you want to know how to make money doing that stuff I'm happy to send you some links! Could hold you over till you have a job and insurance again. I'd also apply for state aid if you haven't. Depending on your state you might get stuck on a waiting list, but you should qualify, and it's possible to defer payment on some stuff if you have insurance pending. I did this a couple years ago and my uncovered expenses were back-paid from the date of my application.

Yup, it varies wildly from state to state. I have to imagine in some cases people's best options would be to move to another state.

I know public housing in Mass has an insane waiting list- something like 3 years- and then you can drive 20-25 minutes to Vermont and there's open housing with no one living in it. My ex-SIL is a single mom of 2 and has looked into moving because of that. I imagine there are different issues everywhere.

If Tanis has a pre-existing condition, his chances of getting state insurance as a single adult are probably much better than they would be otherwise, so it's worth applying. It can also be good to have a record of applying for that stuff. It's also good to look for any other programs, like prescription assistant programs, discounted clinics, things like that. Don't just look at the stuff officially offered through your state, there are private programs and programs that receive state funding too. Explore your options and try to find ways to save money in the meantime. Like I said, happy to give anyone interested links to legit freelancing sites.

I started reading Hell House yesterday and was wondering why they made the chick medium so much younger than in the movie. Now I have read a large portion of the book and realize it is because she acts like a 12 year old. ; ; It is a pretty neat book, but man, I am hoping she's the first to get killed off.

Winter is terrible for me even without the holidays. Really, it's the cold that's the worst part. I have asthma and I wind up getting bronchitis almost every year, and it's a pain in the butt to walk places when it's freezing or wet and snowy. Sunshine is good for your mood, too.

The various winter holidays are a bit of terrible flavoring sprinkled on top of what is already a shit sandwich.

I can understand that part. I have a little heater with a thermostat pointed at me as I type.
It kicks in when the temp drops to a certain level and blows hot air in my face. It's kind of irritating but better than what the cold does.
It's hell onj the electric but electric is cheaper than oil over here. Oil here is a real shaft in the butt.

If it's an emergency, here in Cali they are obligated to treat you regardless if you can pay or not. It's very common for people to just give a fake name so they can just leave without paying. Hospitals are so accustomed to getting screwed, it's really easy to lower a bill you intend to pay just by asking. Friend of mine got his reduced from 8,000 bucks to 3500 just by being willing to pay at all.


Really, it's the cold that's the worst part.

A friend of mine was climbing over spiked railings like that and he slipped. His leg was skewered and had to wait for someone to go and phone the fire brigade to come and lift him off because he was too short to do it himself. Ouch.
