This is pretty spoiler-free. Some of these things might change in the post-game, but I've tried to address that, too. Plus I have to see what the ending brings. Regardless, I feel confident in this assessment, at this point.
They introduce innovations that aren’t needed in this game. They have a Paradigm Deck save system in a game that has NO CHARACTER SWITCHING. We needed that in XIII, so hardcore.
All the skills are clumped up near the beginning of the revamped crystarium. So, you have long stretches at the end of leveling without the feeling of any progression. From around lvl 40 to the 80s I didn’t feel any more competent and I didn’t get to learn but one or two outlying skills that aren’t THAT necessary, anyway.
SYNs and SABs are fucked. I could never get Serah to cast anything but DeShell w/o doing it manually. I tried sticking Imperil a few times, but it never had much of any effect, anyway. There are no En-spells. At least not in the main game. Haste is dependent on pre-emptive strikes, and that alone, as far as I can tell. SYNs are pretty worthless.
This might all change post-game, but XIII did it right. It gave you access to those skills and only held them back for people who weren’t natively a given role. Holding back Raise from someone who isn’t a MED until post-game was fine. Snow could use phoenix downs and still be a great medic and Vanille and Hope weren’t limited. Of course you get raise in the main game, here, but that’s just an example. Haste and En-spells are the lifeblood of a SYN. It’s why Sazh is so awesome in-game and Hope is only truly awesome in the post-game.
The monster system is more Lufia II than Pokemon, but that doesn’t really help that they deny you the fantastic cast from the original game. It could have easily just added Serah and moved on. Just like Xenosaga Ep. II. They added Jin and kept everyone else. There are no major reasons why the rest of the cast cannot travel along with Serah. Noel isn’t horrible, but he doesn’t add much.
There was one pretty good scene in which I felt like Noel was playing my advocate towards Snow. But, Snow was right, too. He’s a fictional character, after all. I really liked what both of them had to say, but I don’t feel this justifies the game existing.
Oh, the monsters. They only fill one role on your team and that’s alright. It’s servicable. I only used them for roles I needed duplication on. I have a Rav (Tri-disaster), Med (Combat Clinic), and a Com (Agression and Cerberus). I just don’t want a monster when I could have had Snow and Hope.
As far as the storyline goes, there are multiples of certain characters and it’s not helped when you come up to the end of the story abruptly. You only experience a few areas that are used over and over. And the event that counts as “changing the future” is barely touched upon before it’s resolved. How it’s changed makes sense logically (if only tenuously), but it is BEYOND convenient. Then boom, time for the final showdown. It’s very slapdash.
They make a character look like he is pretty incompetent by having him construct a Rube Goldberg-esque solution to a very simply problem. In so many ways this game is just UNECESSARY. It obfuscates what was a very simply story that was told really well (fuck the haters). Further, I don’t know HOW something can BOTH be a rehash and nullify the entire point of the first game, but it manages to do it. Zwuh......
I don’t know where to put this, so I’ll just tag it on the end:
At one point I had to sell a bunch of stuff and cash in my casino tickets just to buy something to move the game forward. I’m really pretty certain that I didn’t open any gates that were frivolous. So it feels like you have to be lucky enough to have scrounged enough stuff or go backtracking like mad to progress the main storyline.
That’s pretty unforgivable.
Further, one of the fragments you're collecting is dependent on a slot machine. A. SLOT. MACHINE. There’s something going on with it, since you can replicate the same spin REALLY easily. Maybe someone will figure out what the secret is, soon enough. But, it’s still a pretty shitty move.
Oh, and the real ending is going to be for sale. Extra episodes and such.
We'll see what the ending(s) bring. But, if it stays as is, I feel like the point of the original is squashed.

It was part of the promotion for the film when it came out.
Abrams, right....Bad Robot productions.
Abrams was never a Trek fan, which made for a great director to tackle the project.
He followed the source material but made it his own.
LOST made some funny little Trek references.

I haven't watched Comic Book Men. A friend of a friend was on the show at one point but she got cut before it went to air. Presumably because having females on the show messes up the name Comic Book Men. :rofldata: There are a couple comic people on my Facebook who seem really pissed about it but I'm not sure why, I think it's something to do with the store owner on the show.
XIII-2 looks like it's really banking on DLC. =/ I love some DLC (Nippon Ichi and Gust great with it imo) but it frustrates the hell out of me when games seem underfinished without out it. I told Rob I'd play it when it was cheap. Not really looking forward to it, though it sounds like I'll like the monster stuff at least.
I just found out Wheels from Degrassi died 5 years ago. Weird.

A question for any audacity users, how bad would the quality loss be if I were to use MP3 in 320K. I really would like to make a Metal Gear Solid Suite, but I dont even think most of them are in flac.
I don't notice much of a difference.
It does get a little murky and muted in busy parts but if it's your only choice then why not?
There is a mild dip in quality but it's not too bad.
If it's for personal use it's not too bad.
I did one suite using 192kbps...

For some reason I never have problems downloading stuff off PSN and updating even though I run it off Wi-Fi.

I don't notice much of a difference.
It does get a little murky and muted in busy parts but if it's your only choice then why not?
There is a mild dip in quality but it's not too bad.
If it's for personal use it's not too bad.
I did one suite using 192kbps...

I have more affection for Degrassi than any other goofy teen show I watched as a youngin'. I'm not sure if it was actually better or if I just have fonder memories of watching it. I have watched some of the new stuff but it's all about these kids I don't care about and I want to see more Snake and Joey and Caitlin. I am pretty sure Kevin Smith did his episodes just so he could make out with Caitlin Ryan.

'Twas a guilty pleasure at it's best.
Some of it was good.....on paper.
Except some of the acting and scene set-ups failed it.

A question for any audacity users, how bad would the quality loss be if I were to use MP3 in 320K. I really would like to make a Metal Gear Solid Suite, but I dont even think most of them are in flac.
Personally I haven't noticed any loss when I work with it. I notice when I want to save it only gives me the option of saving in 192, so what I do is put in 320, save as WAV, convert back to 320 afterwards....

Finally! The internet kept pooping the bed on me so I couldn't get anything uploaded or downloaded with regularity. Yet the "t" is missing, I think I killed it when I was playing around with the colors and effects. Worst thing is that I caught it right after I started uploading and that I ended up not using any of the effects that killed it in the first place. surely there's a method to take it off quickly to engage in some manly anger and keep your sport coat tidy.
Just takes practice. Lots of practice.
Throw your arms back to produce enough slack and let the coat slide down your arms, at which point, you grab it by the collar and whip it around in front of you at waist level.
But as your hands bring the coat around to the front, switch hand positions so as one is at the top of the coat, and the other quickly aligns the coat symmetrically and placed near the bottom of the coat.
Once in front of you, quickly ravel the coat, using the gained momentum to fold the coat in half and toss it to the side.
It must be fluid, solid and elegant, like dancing.
Or a Sammo Hung movie :laugh:
If you did it right, as you walk away from the damage, the collar should be on top and with just your index finger, quickly latch onto the small loop on the inside of the collar, toss the coat behind your should and stick a toothpic in your mouth after adjusting your fedora.

Finally! The internet kept pooping the bed on me so I couldn't get anything uploaded or downloaded with regularity. Yet the "t" is missing, I think I killed it when I was playing around with the colors and effects. I think they can even get penalties for it or something? It's like one of the only entertaining things about American Football. I also like the players that have really big hair. Big hair under a helmet is magical to me.

my friend greg is part bengali and part italian (northern italy, iirc, where people are actually rather pale) and he looks very dark but he complains about getting sunburnt anyway...but goddamn you dark guys can still handle more exposure..i am in the sun more than a few minutes and i'm fucked
