Eva is a particular beast. Sure there's some confusing stuff and a bunch of stuff that is never simply explained directly in show, but it's not all that hard if you just watch and think.

Now the bigger problem comes from the insane fanbase.
Before I actually watched it I've heard that Neon Genesis Evangelion was everything including:

-hidden Christianity Propaganda
-Atheist
-Having strong pro-gay themes
-Asuka & Rei are bosom buddies
-Pretentious
-Cliche'
-Shinji is gay
-It's a romantic action comedy with some reflective moments
-Emo

Well it does have soem of those things for the life of me I don't know why everyone who loves it wishes it was a completely different show.

I loved how everything played out. The way they'd pull switcheroos like introduce Ristuko by means of fan service then not having her do hardly any again. Or the naked prat fall with Shinji & Rei, they took a basic fan service scene where someone accidentally sees someone else naked and they have a quick exchange even though 1 secretly like the other. Well here it's kinda creepy and a little forlorn.

She's probably the strongest of the characters and most sympathetic.

Rei is severely introverted, Asuka is highly extroverted, & Shinji is pretty much inert in the middle so you'll either love or hate each of them depending on things but Misato it I guess tri-polar. At work she's strong and serious, on her personal time she's childish,flirty, cheerful, and a slob but most of the time she's really sad and in the same situation as Shinji.

The thing that's most touching about her is the fact that unlike the 3 children she knows what's her problems and wants to fix them. It's just she rarely succeeds but like what she said to Shinji little by little she's learned and tried to make herself stronger form her mistakes.

SHe's the only one who actually cared about the children. Shinji for the most part but she also wanted Asuka to be happy too and to a lesser extent she wanted Rei to be alright as well.

I find it tragic and romantic that she hated herself so much that she was going to disgrace herself by jumping in bed with the 1st random guy. Who turned out to be her true love but also very much like her father. So much so that she left him because she didn't want to get hurt by someone like that again. But she got back together with him anyway and just when she was starting to open up and trust him he dies and it completely devastates her.
But she goes on anyway and is able to finish Kaji's work. A little too late to stop anything but she did do it.

Her last goodbye to Shini is one of the most powerful scenes I've seen in a movie.
She's someone who has had it bad but, still carries on and does everything she can to try and improve her life even when she fails at it most of the time.
Her last thoughts were about her loved ones and if she did the right thing. That has to say something about her character.

Well about the Eva designs and the Angels. I hear that the idea was to make them look like they're guys in rubber suits as if it was Ultraman or Godzilla instead of a cartoon. Also the angels are mostly based off of the discretion of the real angles in teh bible. They were often appear as weird things completely dissimilar to the men with wings and had 2 heads, or apearred as a ring of flame in the sky and things like that.

I love Eva - it's a work of art in that the themes you get from it are what you put into it...if you get that :(

I agree totally with what you said Tom, particularly about Misato. She was for me the most interesting character. And the scene with her and Shinji outside the lift you mentioned was just one of the highlights of that episode. I thought the whole of End of Eva was perfect in every sense. The sound, the editing, the pacing, the resolutions (and / or lack of...) etc.

Gendo Ikari was a hard character to like, I guess that was intentional so we side with Shinji but despite having his own agenda I found him to be underdeveloped. Maybe his perspective clashed too much with the others so they decided not to give his POV too much. He had an nice scene in End of... but not much that I can recall in the original series. I'm going to rewatch it all when I get time. My list of things to watch is very long so it'll be quite a while.

The emotions were hyperbolic for dramatic purposes and I'm guessing its this that people don't like. Shinji can be annoying at times but so can everyone. Anyone who says they can't identify with at least one of the cast is a liar. They are all facets of humanity.

I think the idea is that Gendo was pretty much just like Shinji but he actually takes action. Or I guess I should say all the bad stuff Shinji needs to overcome Gendo never did or at least any hope that he would died with Yui.

I also really loved the music; mainly towards the end of the series and the movie. Com Susser Todd was one of the most shocking scenes in any movie I've seen. Did you notice the similarities with Hey Jude? And how Hey Jude actually works very well with the overall message of Eva?
All Shinji, Asuka, Rei, & Misato had to do was Take a sad song and make it better, Remember to let them into your heart, Then they can start to make it better.

I didn't notice the Hey Jude. I know when I watch it again I will discover many thing I missed before. That's part of its charm.

Well, I actually woke up early on a Sunday, layed in my bed whilst contiplating selling my Wii, even though I have 20 virtual console games stored on there, then I started to play Mega Man 3 and beat Topman, Shadowman, Magnetman, Hardman then stopped playing in the middle of Needleman's stage. Went online to google to find out why Mega Man X isn't available for the virtual console then came here to the shrine to chill.

Nice :D Also keep your Wii! Unless you really don't want it anymore, they're super hard to come by (at least they were; took me forever to finally get one decent priced).

I regret every virtual console purchase i've made. The Homebrew emulators are so much better - they actually scale the image correctly so it's not stretched in widescreen, they have upscalers, and configurable control schemes. It makes Nintendo's quick-make-a-buck job looking like a freaking insult.

I keep my Wii, but only because I can rent games out and rip them to an external harddrive. There's no way in hell Wii games are worth the same as 360 or PS3 games.

And if so, did you see the sequel? Is it worth seeing or does it drag the original down with it?

It's not terrible, but yeah, the first Descent makes a better stand-alone flick. The sequel is a complete retread, but the ending sorta redeems it.

Last Week the weather was rather wild.
Late at night just before I was going to go to bed the power went out. Luckily I had nothing to lose on the computer at the time and I called public service to report the outage. Although I went to bed earlier sleep was not peaceful. It got hot with the window closed and chilly with it cracked even a little.
I just couldn�t fall asleep and thought to myself it�d be nice if I lived in a simpler time. Were you lived off your skill and worked the land, food was healthy and hardy and the only proof you needed that god existed was the fact that the world and everything in it existed. The beasts still roamed wild amongst the green hills & prairies and the trees were so thick you could walk from sea to sea on top of their branches and not touch the ground.
There I had journeyed to the frozen northlands to join the nomads and barbarians in the gorilla warfare they�ve been waging on the orcs and other marauders; Most of which once were great forces to be reckoned with. But that was before any of our times and now all we needed to do was keep the boarders safe.
There were a little over 230 0f us from several kinships. I met and fell in love with a sweet water tribe girl. Though she was much loved by her people and had a keen mind and respect for all life she excelled in little and was always the last to finish a task, not for the lack of trying. She was also considered a little too lithe and fairy like for such people that lived in the frozen wastes.
We were unorganized almost to an advantage of being completely unpredictable, driving our prey into an ambush only to have 1 group asleep and the other on the wrong side of the vally. We never took prisoners, orcs being the zombie corpses of the poor hill goblins were all killed and the human threats were just chased off less they learn our hiding places as prisoners or the rescue party is assembled.
The only great misdeed we did was the slaying of an entire village of people because their settlement was destroying the last of a crop I�d guess was cranberries which are one of the main crops for several of the people in our band. Many of which consider them a sacred plant.

I started as a lurker.

One dark day I dipped a toe in the murky STS water and I was pulled under.
