I forgot to respond to this! I haven't watched the series, so I'm not really qualified to answer this, but I'll do my best. It's usually mentioned as one of the best written sentai series, and it was written by the same writer as Kamen Rider Den-O. So, I think the odds of you liking it are probably pretty good. I have to plug Shinkenger again, though. Really think you'd love it. :)

It's kind of fun to be completely proven wrong on stuff you think you'll hate, too. There are some things that I have a particular fondness for because they so completely surpassed my low expectations. Don't think I'd love Dodgeball quite as much as I do if I'd went in expecting it to be great.

Gotou and Kagaaaaami aren't really that similar in terms of personality. If I were to compare Kagami to anyone, it'd be Shoutaro, honestly.

They started off similarly story arc wise- guy who works for company dealing with riders, really wants to be a rider himself- and that's the reason they get compared. It definitely felt like they were trying to create that same feeling, where you really were rooting for him to become a rider.

Kagami became a rider sometime around

episode 21-22, so Gotou being the Gatack of OOO is pretty unlikely at this point. I like the friendship between him and Date, and I will never not love Brotou, but he makes me nervous because I love Date so much.

The arc where he becomes Gatack is one of my all-time favorites. It hits a lot of tropes I love and it reminds me of Aliens. ^____^

You could always watch stuff you think would be good inspiration! Other sentai series, other tv shows with similar themes, stuff like that.

Something that really helps me get motivated is looking at ways other people organize projects? I've been doing a lot of work since I found that really well structured comic pitch the other day because I love having a template like that to think in terms of. "How can I make this project fit this", that sort of thing. It also got me started on a third comic project, though ; ; Probably going to have to narrow them down to whichever I think is the strongest when I'm closer to being ready to pitch stuff. Could pitch different series to different publishers, I guess. Would love to be ready to hit up some cons with pitches next year.

From what I've been hearing from people in the industry, visiting publisher tables at conventions is the best way to pitch. It's much more likely you'll sell an idea that way then you would via sending in submissions. There are also publishers that will listen to pitches at cons that won't accept open submissions.

An artist isn't necessary for most publishers- Image is the only one I can name offhand that requires you to already have an artist. Publishers generally have a lot of artists onhand, and they'll match you up with someone they think is a good fit for your writing. What I have heard is that you should have some sort of visual component to your pitch. What I'll probably do is commission a page or some character sketches and use that in my pitch.

I've heard that a lot of people are just going in, and making a really loose verbal pitch: ie "hey here's my idea for a comic do you think it sounds cool", so the more structured and professional your pitch is, the more you'll stand out. That pitch is my inspiration, right now! Think the one sentence concept is an especially good idea.

what cons are good to do this stuff?

My personal goal is to pitch at smaller, area cons that publishers will be attending. I feel like at a major con, pitches are just going to get lost. Downside of this is that the publishers at these cons are more likely to be small or indie publishers.

Dark Horse is one of the publishers I'm particularly interested in, and I'd definitely be willing to attend certain cons in order to have to opportunity to pitch to them. I'll look at their con schedule for next year when they post it and aim for the smallest, closest convention they'll have a booth at.

At the very least, I'll be able to get business cards and hand out my information at lots of people in the industry and build some more contacts while I work on my projects so that I can pitch them again next year.

What are these time trains anyways? It sounds like there are quite a few of them and that along with monster fighting they also have regular passengers who I'd guess buy time tickets to do who knows what.

When the House on Haunted Hill was originally shown in theaters, they actually rigged some theaters with an actual skeleton that could be pulled out into the audience at the right moment. ^^ People freaked out and it was awesome publicity for the film. They did a lot of cool horror movie stunts like that back around that time!

Have you ever seen The Last Man on Earth? It's based on the original I Am Legend novel. One of Vincent Price's best roles, for me, and it has the added bonus of being in the public domain. Cost me like $0.50 to get it on DVD.

Shinkenger vs. Goseiger

Complaints are easier to list:

Hardly any Nozomu or his dad.
The combination wasn't as satisfying as with Go-Onger, but I was expecting that since Goseiger has the weakest mechs of the three series. Would have preferred to see Ultimate Wonder Gosei Great. Probably just because I like Ultimate more than Hyper Gosei Great.

Everything else was pretty much completely awesome.

I keep downloading the latest Gokaiger, thinking I might start watching them again... I might.

Still have Shinkenger on my HDD also.

I have Goseiger VS. Shinkenger downloaded! Think I'll watch it tonight, unless I suddenly get tired. I've really missed everyone from Shinkenger. ^^ Excited to see them again! No disrespect to the Gosei Angels, I just haven't had as much time to miss them~

The complaints in there aren't serious, and not numerous. 2. One was expected so it doesn't really detract. The other is just sort of a hey, could have taken 10 seconds out to do this, type.

I can't really say which is better between Go-Onger and Goseiger. Okay, I can, it's still Go-Onger, but Goseiger is really close because I actually know both casts.

It feels like what it is. A heaping of awesome mixed with a heaping of good. Which makes sense.

Have you ever seen The Last Man on Earth? It's based on the original I Am Legend novel. One of Vincent Price's best roles, for me, and it has the added bonus of being in the public domain. Cost me like $0.50 to get it on DVD.

SO far I've only truly seen the Will Smith one and not read/watched any of the others but I know of them and the "I Am Omega" straight to DVD that floats around the $5 walmart bin.

Really liked it. It was a fun movie. Some little things, especially some of the stuff you mentioned, could've made it better, but I still enjoyed it a lot. Got some new Genta reaction pictures and got to enjoy some excellent Alata stuff, good villainery, and just lots of fun bits with characters playing off each other.

Also I really liked the little Gokaiger bit. Looks like this is a movie! Let's be flashier than usual~ Loved the DaiGoyou stuff especially. Actually thought DaiGoyou and Datas made for the best mech fights too. They're a good combination.

I'd have to agree that the Go-onger versus movie is the better film overall, but this one was more fun for me in some ways? Just nice to be able to really appreciate both casts of characters.

It's pretty much just a random fun thing they do to introduce the new sentai team. I mean, it was a fun fight scene but it's not like important plot bits are contained there.

Anyways, a good way to get started here (and maybe there) would be to write spec scripts of existing television shows similar to the ones you'd like to write for. So, since you want to write for a sentai series, you'd write some potential scripts for other sentai series, or maybe a Kamen Rider series or another tokusatsu series entirely. Believe there are legalities against them using these scripts (in the US) so I wouldn't put anything you loved in there.

You'd then submit these scripts to various agencies. If the agency liked your scripts, they'd put them on file, and show them when Toei came looking for potential scriptwriters. If they liked you, you'd have a chance of getting a job on the writing team of a series, and from there, you could pitch your ideas for your own series.

I believe some agencies will accept spec pilots, but your chance of selling a pilot when you haven't worked as a writer on a tv show already is pretty low. The spec pilots that I know of that sold were written by experienced writers. Basically, you write scripts for other shows so that shows can see you'd be able to work on their writing team, and once you work on a writing team, you build experience and clout in the industry so that you're in a position to head a show.

I just meant that all I really know about Batman in Japan is what I see in Pixiv/the anime that's aired there.

I like Bruce and Clark in a bromance-y way, but I don't really think they have romantic chemistry. Like when the writers do stuff that teases at it in a fun way, though.



I generally dislike Bruce/Robin shipping because I think it's mostly influenced by Seduction of the Innocent and because it ignores the most interesting aspect of the Batfamily dynamic.

I don't seriously ship Bruce and The Joker, but I love their dynamic and there's no shortage of interesting story stuff to be mined from their relationship. Even when Brucie's not around~

If I shipped Bruce with any dude it'd probably either be Ollie or J'onn. Honestly though, I'm a Batman/Forever Alone shipper. I did really like Silver St. Cloud.

This is actually the perfect set-up for a more powerful version of Tajador to be the final form! I just can't see it happening what with all the forms that still have to show up on the show. Don't feel like anything is going to feel like a final form, at this rate.

And yeah, I didn't get that either. I get the impression sometimes that Hina really talks Eiji up to her friends, so maybe she just mentioned the problem and then Hina sort of pushed her into having Eiji help? That's what I'm running with, anyway.

I was so excited by the compound eyes I missed the obvious ; ; That will indeed be awesome!

That's definitely not the first time Hina's popped up with MAYBE EIJI CAN DO SOMETHING, so it feels like the most logical explanation to me. They were hinting at his past a little when he was talking Sakata (the dialog about thinking of the consequences when you help people or something like that) and I know there's an episode dealing with his past coming up because I skimmed episode descriptions. I would like to see him be more proactive in general, but maybe that's something they're doing deliberately? I feel like if Ankh was less in conflict with Eiji's general desire to help people he'd walk over him more completely than he does already.

Also, Ankh's roots were coming in in a lot of shots this episode. Looked good!

With Uva it sort of feels like there's this pattern of setting you up to underestimate him and then having him do something surprisingly awesome? If he brought back Mezool and Gamel it'd have to be in a way that directly benefited him or I don't think it'd be consistent with his character. Mostly I just want to get to see Gamel again before the show's over. ; ;

I did! Paul Dini's written a lot of the best Brave and the Bold stuff.

I think at the beginning

Eiji had more to do because he was always trying to protect people over letting the yummies mature so Ankh'd get more cell medals. But, now, him and Date show up and they just take care of business because everyone wants cell medals. Kougami, Maki, Date, and Ankh (plus Uva, far moreso than Kazari).

Plus, Ankh was far more focused on finding his cores, for the last little while, and Eiji was far less vocal about letting the bird yummies live. He was more intent on finding out about Ankh. This puts him in the audience's roll, yes, but with everything else considered I think it makes him fade further into the background

I'm reminded of Doc being worried about Ryou at first. For me, it feels this way in OOO far more than I ever felt that way about Ryou. Hopefully being possessed by the Dino cores will make for some good stuff, though.

It's sort of a fun challenge to find the most intriguing images for the stuff you want to recommend you can, so the pictures will catch people's eye. Just threw this one together quick, so I'll definitely pick some better images for some of these.

Gokaiger

In some ways, I think Gokaiger crippled itself a bit with having the previous super sentai give up their powers. Toku can be huge for launching the career of an actor, and a lot of people are busy. It's much easier to get someone to record some voice work and then shoot some stuff with suit actors (they did this quite a few times in Decade) than it is to get the actor to show up and film stuff. I know this wouldn't necessarily work all that well anyways, what with all the GOKAI CHANGIN', it'd just be nice to feel like more characters are back on the occasions when I'd appreciate it.

This week, like last week, was alright for me. They were both a lot better than the super filler episode, and they both had a lot of great moments, but they both didn't come together for me as a whole. All of the best parts of the last three episodes happened during fight scenes, and I think that's problematic. I love the Gokaiger fight scenes- they're wonderfully choreographed and they have such a sense of fun, but I don't really feel like there's that much at stake when they're fighting. They're beating the baddies because that's what needs to be done in the episode, and there isn't a real sense of urgency about it. I had pretty similar complaints about the Goseiger villains at this point, so I'm not super concerned- it's just something I really hope improves as the show progresses.

I did like seeing them carry through what we've already learned about Joe, and I think he and Luca are pretty terrific characters to pair together. The visual gag of them undercover was a great one. But the sort of intensity some of those scenes need was missing for me. It didn't feel like it really mattered if Luca won or lost. We were just seeing how good she is at cheating at cards. I know it's a toku show and they're all going to be fine in the end no matter what, but so many shows have done a great job of putting you on edge during scenes like this, and that's what Gokaiger's missing right now. I mean, look at when Luca and Joe were found out. They're so chill about it that the second card game doesn't feel like it matters as much as it should. Joe pulling out his Royal Straight Flush was awesome (especially given the suit it was in), but I wasn't really concerned about whether he could do it or not, and the JUST AS PLANNED bit when everyone else shows up only confirmed that. Don in his sunglasses was awesome, though. ^^

I realize I'm being overly critical here, but it's because I want to properly articulate what's bothered me about the last few episodes, not because I have some kind of hate-on for Gokaiger. I'm still enjoying the show, I promise!

Naruhisa Arakawa (he was on the Kuuga team, yo!) hasn't been writing episodes as much, and I think that's why the story's felt a bit thin, for me. I feel like the other writers have how to write fight scenes for the team now, but maybe don't have as good a feel for the episode plotting. He's writing next week's episode, so I have high hopes, even if it does have the potential to disappoint me as a Shinkenger fan.

Yeah, I think most of the Agito subs come from bootleg DVDs someone was selling of their fansubs? Which is weird because I don't think they're super high quality. Definitely not on par with the other toku sub groups. Someone will probably re-sub it eventually, but it's serviceable for now. Anyways, that's why I think Agito subs are so hard to find.

It's a Cartoon Network show. One of the few Cartoonstitute programs that got picked up. Has a lot of Adult Swim type humor but it's part of their regular CN block. It's sort of like a cross between Chowder and Ren and Stimpy? But it isn't so big on the types of visual gags those shows use.

i really really dislike cartoon network's current block of programming. the animation of everything really turns me off.

Adventure Time has terrific animation, even though they use flash. Pretty much every show is animated in flash now anyways!

Young Justice tends to alternate between meh animation and great animation. Brave and the Bold has pretty solid animation too.

What shows specifically do you have a problem with?

I think everyone things Problem Solverz is terrible if that's what you're referring to.

this is the animation style i really dislike. it bugs the crap out of me and almost all the current shows have it!

I don't think most shows on CN right now look like that. Adventure Time, Clone Wars, Ben 10, Young Justice, Generator Rex, Brave and the Bold, Mystery Inc., the various Total Drama shows and Superhero Squad look nothing like that. Neither did the recently departed Symbionic Titan, and The Looney Tunes Show clips look pretty different too. Mad TV and Problem Solverz look awful but they're not really similar either.

I guess I can see the similarities to Chowder (though Chowder had a lot of inventive visual stuff too) and to Gumball, but Chowder's canceled anyways.

Adventure Time has fluctuating rules on sizes and proportions (they actually have a guide on this in the show's bible) and it's much more fluid and less repetitive than what they do on Regular Show. The art style is really different too, as are the types of humor they use on the show. Regular Show is a simple show about animal characters hanging out and talking. Adventure Time is about crazy adventures in a wonderfully fun post-apocalyptic universe. It's one of the best shows on tv and it's worth all the years I had to wait for it.

I would compare Adventure Time to Fleischer's animations, though obviously the two don't have comparable budgets. Regular Show's animation is merely serviceable. THIS IS BLASPHEMY!

Quite surprising for a filler. I loved the use of JAKQ in this one, and once again GaoGokaiOh was epicness. Oh, and now that I found out that PSYCHIC LOVER does GokaiOh's theme, I know the soundtrack to this show will be incredible.

Also, I'm not sure who I like better, Luka or Ahim....
