so despite all my protesting, i ended up watching first class on the midnight showing. didn't nerd rage as much as i expected, but i did rage a few times. i was pleasantly surprised when i saw them squeeze in references to storm, jean, and cyclops (i'm sure there were more but i didn't see them in time). it was a pretty good movie too. needed more jean though.

Prof. X, Magneto, Beast, & Nightcrawler are my favorite movie characters. Notice how with old British Shakespeare guys they can pretty much go on autopilot and give a good performance even if it's a shit script with bad rest of cast? Well McKellen & Stewart were perfect and had some of the best back and forths in those movies. Nightcrawler was German, loves God & Munich circus, and goes bamf so he was done perfectly and honestly nothing in any of the 4 movies I've seen are as cool as his White House fight scene. I too hated the idea of Kelsey Grammer as Beast but he was perfect character wise. The make up and fur suit looked kinda shitty to me though.

i'm not a huge comic geek but i hated xmen 3. might see first class but not in the theatre. liked the spiderman trilogy okay i guess, though i'm a little confused as to why they're rebooting it after only 4 years. if anything needs a proper reboot it would be superman. superman returns was shit. hulk was awesome. incredible hulk looked gay so i didn't see it. i think hulk needed a sequel, not a reboot.

I think it was creative control disputes between Marvel and Sam Raimi. He wasn't all that happy with having to cram Vemon & Eddy Brock in Spidy 3 and the same stuff was gonna go down so when they got a new director he wanted to make his own take. Huge pity, I was looking forward to having the Curt Connors finally turn into the Lizard plus 4 was gonna have JJohn Malkovich as the Vulture.

MD pilot is being a pain in the ass.

I finished converting......only it repeated some scenes. the 25-55 minute marks repeated again and another one did too. Making the file almost 3 hours long. The pilot's only 1 1/2 hours. There is a nasty little watermark that shows up with the conversion too. It's right in the middle of the picture and is really distracting when it shows up.

I'm going to convert again, this time I think I fixed the first problem.

i'm not a huge comic geek but i hated xmen 3.

I felt the Dark Phoenix plot was done okay, but there was just so many unnecessary things in it. Like Angel. WTF was Angel doing in that movie, really nothing.
I might see the new one with my BF if he's here, though we definitely are gonna go see Thor (we both saved watching it because of his visit =D).


liked the spiderman trilogy okay i guess, though i'm a little confused as to why they're rebooting it after only 4 years.

They were alright, 2 felt a bit weak to me, though, to be honest. And they cancelled Spiderman 4 because the director quit the job, iirc because of time restraints. Dunno why they're completely rebooting, though.


hulk was awesome. incredible hulk looked gay so i didn't see it. i think hulk needed a sequel, not a reboot.

I personally felt the '08 movie was really good at what it was trying to be (an action flick). It's Banner on the run constantly and has a lot of good action. It's not amazing, but it's not a terrible movie. Also no gay bashing plox.

'03 Hulk just completely confused me, and it seemed like it didn't know what it wanted to be. It tried to be so many things that it just seemed perplexed about its purpose - at one point in the movie I felt like King Kong badly reenacted. And there's so much silly stuff going on, like why the hell have Banner's father as antagonist and Absorption Man? He had pretty much no reason to be there and no significance on the plot aside from the childhood memories.

My favorite Quark scene ever is still when he and his brother go through the airvents and end up in Sisko's office. He looks at the two guys barging out and is like "May I help you, gentlemen?" - "Uh, sorry we must've taken the wrong turn." - "It seems that way."

Superman Returns sucked hairy balls. They threatened a Dir cut that never appeared.

I'm not sure who thought it would be a good idea to release a sequel to a how many years old movie instead of making a new one anyways. Nevermind the horribly cast Lois Lane and the really bad romance plot. Kinda wish they'd stop trying to do romances in comic movies, 9 times out of 10 they don't work and I'm pretty sure romance isn't the reason most peeps are going to see the movie anyways.

Do feel bad for Brandon Routh though, he seems like a really neat guy. I'm sure Henry Cavill will be a great Superman, but I wish he'd gotten a proper chance.

Someone very important to me killed themselves because of pain from illness.

No matter what I or anyone else believes, he sacrificed a lot trying to help people. He was a pretty talented artist too.

I thought you did well with what you had to work with. We really should have seen more Scott & Jean stuff. They were already together in 1, he was mind controlled for most of 2, and got exploded at the start of 3 so you really didn't get a feel for those 2 people loving each other.

One thing I really hate is a 4:3 stretched to fit a modern TV. Drives me ape-shit when I go to peoples houses and the fat faces on the TV are looking at me. After an hour of fidgeting and personal trauma I'll mention it and they go, "Huh? It's fine."

Lots of reading, tbh I skipped bits of it but it's kind of interesting if you're a trekkie or trekker or a Bryan Singer fan. Another one of those things Singer failed to make happen. I liked the new Trek. I was going into it thinking I'd not but I did in the end. I'm a huge Trek nerd.

In the TV series world everything pre-Voyager was the schizz for me.

i hate that too. isn't their an option in widescreen tvs that lets you put the black bars on the side of 4:3 programs? i wouldn't know because i haven't gotten a new tv in a while.

There is new 2.35:1 TV's made in Japan. I think by Panasonic or Toshiba. They haven't been rolled out commercially yet.

That'll make things even worse for the old shot on video stuff.

i personally would have set a new series about 25-50 years after the next gen era. i think they'd finally milked that era dry by the end of voyager and nemesis.

i don't think prequels and reboots are the answer. i know i'm in the minority on this.
just seems to go against the very nature of a show about the future and the evolution of mankind. going back to the tos era was just a safe way for paramount to make big money. familiarity and formula. sure, do the occasional time travel episode like "trials and tribble-ations" but stop there. i mean what's next? a reboot of next gen starring vin diesel as picard?!?

the new trek was entertaining and a decent sci-fi film, but i didn't like it as a part of star trek. furthermore, i think what infuriated a lot of trekkers was the way abrams made a point of telling us that he wasn't really a trek fan and that he wanted to make the franchise more like star wars. i'm paraphrasing but i remember him saying he wanted to make a movie for movie fans but not necessarily for trek fans.

isn't it possible to please both? star trek II, IV, anf first contact are shining examples of films remain popular with both trekkers and non trek fans alike.
