That's a nice one, I like the design.
I met a real Thor worshiper one Halloween doing Thor cosplay and he built his own.
I asked to hold it and it was super heavy, he could barely lift it with his Thor arms.
That day I felt so mortal, so mortal.

I did know that.
I am way into mythology and entomology.
Some say Woton and Wooden are actually newer uses for this name and Odin as it is used today is actually older.
I don't claim to know myself.
Another way Thor was said in the past was the simpler "Tor."

Cool. You may enjoy the Burzum album Daudi Baldr's (sometimes called Baldr's Dod). It's not the usual Black Metal because Varg was in prison at the time, so its all instrumental, ambient stuff, created on a PC. It tells the story of Baldr and Loki, and the prelude to Ragnorak. It's good.
The corpse paint of the guy in the John can't disguise the fact that his mom cleaned that bathroom. Look how sparkling clean it is.

we're pretty casual about our television programming......the language is never censored on your regular channels (with the exeception of maybe faggot or any racial words...and even then Kids in The Hall managed to get away with faggot and nigger on your basic cable channels).....the blood and gore or nudity is never censored on regular channels.
Our cable is pretty much porn and gore galore.....some of the shows I can't believe are on regular cable sometimes....it's only been like this in the past 15 years or so.
then we get the American channels too, Fox, Peachtree, CW, KVOS....they're all censored to shit......fuck that.......if i'm gonna watch a movie on tv, it's gotta be on a Canadian channel.

"In Massachusetts, a 98-year-old woman has been indicted in the murder of her 100-year-old roommate at a nursing home where they were both residents. Authorities say that the women strangled her roommate with a plastic shopping bag after getting in a heated argument about the placement of a small table at the foot of her bed. Her roommate complained that the table obstructed the path to the restroom and repetitively told nurses to move it, which set of a series of small battles between the two roomies that eventually lead to murder. The woman has been sent to a state hospital for evaluation."

There's really a lot about farts that are funny.
They make a comical sound with your butt.
They smell.
A really bad fart can do more than just smell, you can taste it, from someone else's butt right into your mouth.
Farts usually are a prelude to having a bowel movement.
Farts aren't unusual, you fart every day.
Everyone can identify with farting.
Unless you're a cyborg without the biological organs that create gas and your metallic ass only makes clanking noises.
cuckoo77

Was I sounding cranky? I was just teasing the mods a little bit trying to get them to talk about the constantly unfunny thread titles. I mean, funny is in the eye of the beholder and all, and some people just aren't that good at it and I can understand them wanting to contribute in some way despite their lack of talent.

"Etymology
The name Nepenthes was first published in 1737 in Carolus Linnaeus's Hortus Cliffortianus.[1] It references a passage in Homer's Odyssey, in which the potion "Nepenthes pharmakon" is given to Helen by an Egyptian queen. "Nepenthe" literally means "without grief" (ne = not, penthos = grief) and, in Greek mythology, is a drug that quells all sorrows with forgetfulness. Linnaeus explained:
If this is not Helen's Nepenthes, it certainly will be for all botanists. What botanist would not be filled with admiration if, after a long journey, he should find this wonderful plant. In his astonishment past ills would be forgotten when beholding this admirable work of the Creator!"

About ONLY 3 actors returning: I think the emphasis on “only” is what slant the news the wrong way. I cannot imagine Gollum being played by anyone but Andy and in the second script there is still much in discussion to lock everything for now. Both PJ and I chime in on things “as they are at the moment” and, of course, things change.
I, for one, understand where Peter’s coming from since 30% of my STRAIN tour questions, HELLBOY II, ORPHANAGE promotion questions, etc, etc where about the Hobbit. At different time we have been closer in locking on a piece of casting or hoping to get a script delivered, etc and things simply changed as we went along. So, don’t etch this in stone or anything we both have said in the past, in stone since we communicate what we can when the window of exposure to the press and fans happens.
I still prefer to keep the dialogue open- inexact as it may get- that to remain mum or one-sided with the community that can really understand this project.
B) The target for production. Its simple: we may say what we want but until there are two scripts delivered and budgets and schedules to support them we will be all under a yellow light of development. THAT we have not stopped. As I have reported in the past, we are scouting, designing (my last 3 hour meeting with Weta was this morning) and will not stop. BUT the greenlight and thus commencement can only be granted by the studio. Pete as producer and me as director will do everything we can in the meantime.
C) Is there any trouble brewing with WB? Not at all. All I can say is that they reacted to our delivered script with great delight and we have been receiving strong support in our development.
Smaug is being animation tested, we are editing the previs, doing final selections on Dwarven War Artifacts and Gear and starting many fabrication tests for armies, prosthetics and wardrobes, etc
However, I do plan to be less and less in the public spotlight for two simple reasons: One: I am damn busy prepping this two Behemoths. Two: quite likely, I’ll have very limited, if any, promotional time for “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” or “The Fall” (Second Strain book) myself but fear not- I will drop in as much as possible, as always.
Love

When I was wee the original really made an impact on me, I love it.
Also the old Sinbad movies too.
I have a feeling this new one with new special effects will lack the charm and heart of the original. Fight scenes, battles and monsters do not equate a good movie per se.

I love all sorts of movies. I'm willing to give things a chance. But you're right hollywierd executives tend to fund things with name recognition before something new and different.
Why chance the Namor film when Ghost Rider II already has brand recognition?

Dr Faustus
12-19-2009, 05:46 AM
I have a theory about that sub mariner movie. Wasn't Namor a kind of "active participant" in the wrongs against marine life? If they were to do it right they would have to take a political stance with regards whaling/fishing/international waters and such like, and I'd guess they are very much afraid of dipping a toe in that water.
Also, I never watched Ghost Rider. I saw the trailer and that was enough.
rick_says
12-19-2009, 05:59 AM
Ghost Rider sucks that's why I bring it up.
I bet we see an Aquaman movie before a Namor movie.
Namor used to be a villian and became a misunderstood hero type.
The Submariner character actually predates most other Marvel characters.
Maybe he'll show up in the Captain America movie but I doubt it.
Ghost Rider is a bad movie, but it is mildly amusing in some ways.
I saw a cam copy of it when it was in theaters and haven't seen it since.
Really I think that comic book property movies had a good run and a lot of them could have been better.
Daredevil, Catwoman, Man-Thing, Batman and Robin. I've seen enough mediocre funny book movies really. I wish they would hold out and make two really good ones a year instead of 7 half ass ones every summer.
I'm talking to you, Spider-man 4!
Dr Faustus
12-19-2009, 06:17 AM
Raimi said in an interview that he wants to strip the spidey franchaise back to it's fundamentals, no more too many super villians spoil the broth crap like the 3rd one. It was funny in places but it had too many bad guys and not enough progression for either of them, plus sandman was embarrasing.
You seem to know your Marvel characters, more than I do.
I've never heard of Man-Thing.
I'd like to see more Vertigo characters get their chance.
Hopefully the Death: High Cost movie will be the catalyst for that. A Lucifer movie may be good if they gave it to the right person to direct. Aronofsky would be an interesting choice, because I'm sure Del Toro would be busy.
Tanis
12-19-2009, 06:24 AM
Spiderman needs an update; give it to whoever the guy that made 'Batman: Dark Night' is.
Also, I'd REALLY love to see a proper 30 Days of Night movie.
The last one was just embarrassing.
I think Lucifer would work better as a mini series or something.
There also needs to be a proper Nick Fury movie; the last one with David Hasselhoft was kind of lame.
rick_says
12-19-2009, 06:25 AM
Niel Gaiman the writer of Death and Sandman has said he had an eye to direct the high cost of living, don't know what became of that though. It would be his first directing gig.
I think that would be ok, but I would rather have a Sandman movie first and set up the premise of it all. Preacher was being talked about for a while, but I think that died too.
Preacher might have been cool as a TV mini too.

Preacher had been talked about as a movie, then later as a mini. I dunno, it could happen.
Just because something is a commentary on religion doesn't mean it is anti religious per se.
There's a ton of more atheist morally ethicless shit films out there. Preacher has it's own mythology I think people would identify with, I sure did.
Preacher as a mini would be awesome. There aren't that many effects in it, you got a crew a cast and locations and that's pretty much it. It could be done fairly cheap too.
Tanis
12-19-2009, 06:50 AM

rick_says
12-19-2009, 07:02 AM
You know, your everyday Christian isn't that uppity about the message of Jesus and all that. Films with a supernatural slant using our current mythology with a big red dude with horns and a hoked tail are a dime a dozen. They weren't up in arms about Max Payne or dozens of other films that use Xtian mythology. I think it would be a bit funny if one of those groups caught wind of it in advance and started a fuss. You're right though, it does dismantle christianity and the whole mythology, shoot it in the face and bugger the bloody hole, that's Preacher and god bless it.

At the end an interdimensional squid was supposed to splat new york not blue gamma rays or whatever. You can never capture the magic of reading watchmen for the first time.
I'm actually pleased that Preacher might never be made. The books are good enough and use the medium in a perfect way. Could it be translated? Sure. I just don't think it's a message that would get under your skin like the funny books. I could see it almost becoming pornographic for the sake of it or action-adventury in the wrong hands. Preacher isn't safe, that's the whole point. A defanged preacher would be pointless.
Shia bowed out of "Y." Ain't happenin' with Shia, he was quoted that it was too much like his asinine character in Transformerz.

I liked Watchmen in theaters....i actually quite enjoyed what was done with it. I wish Snyder left it alone at that and didn't do a director's cut for home viewing.....it ended being too drawn out and made the senseless violence all the more pointless. I don't know....had the movie been shorter, i wouldn't have minded some of violence, but alot of it just seemed forced and really silly. I was fine without the "squid' stuff....i just would have seemed really out of place with the film's narrative.
I'm glad Shia dropped out of "Y"...i don't mind Shia, but i didn't want him in this adaptation. I would have preferred someone like Jay Baruchel or an unknown.
Cuckoo you so crazy. The Ultimate Cut is the best!
Black Freighter was weaved in so well!

Yeah I know loads of people enjoyed Watchmen the way it was presented. The squid subtext plot had some backstory remember, if it was set up properly it wouldn't have been bad. Part of the impact of it was the WTF factor. It is out of place and that's part of it, dropping in out of no where at the ending.

<----Jay Baruchel? :P

agreed on that....it was seamlessly edited back in.......i just found it dragged the movie out a little longer than it needed to be. I find with films, sometimes even a 4 second edit here and a 5 second edit here, can really add up and move the narrative of film a little better.
Maybe if Zack Snyder did edit out some pointless 4 or 5 seconds farts here or there, it might have been more to my liking.

actually any of those guys (besides Dan Fogler and obviously Kristen Bell) would be great as Yorick.
The visual and dialogue cues just seemed to work as well as they could. I still wonder if they did the full version first and then cut BF for DC and then Hollis's murder and Laurie's escape for the theatrical version.
