They're crap video quality but they are stupid fun, I thought. I've seen all of the first Season ones. Not sure if there are any for second season. If there is they'll be on the bonus disc which I'll watch at the end.

If the first two didn't appeal to you the rest probably won't. They were never used when it was screened, as far as I know.

Yeah. They're on the 2nd season two. They weren't on TV as far as remember. I got the Canadian feed though, so sometimes we don't always get what the U.S. gets.

I haven't started watching it yet.

I'm probably going to watch Summer Wars first.

I just passed a large story arc in Angel Season 2, so I feel I can put that aside for a bit too for some movie watching. :)

I'm only on episode 6 or 7 of season 2. Season one was so short. :sad: I'll watch Log Lady after I finished then.

I'll get to Summer Wars either tonight or tomorrow afternoon. I know nothing about it so it'll be a total surprise. I've seen the dir's previous film and liked it so I'm looking forward to this one.

I haven't seen anything by this guy.

I know he did that Girl Who Lept Through Time movie but I know nothing about that either.

I am curious. It's been so long since I went into a movie completely blind.....I like it. :)

Have you seen the Totoro amv that was on youtube? It had Clint Mansel's Lux Aeterna and the guy that made it edited the Totoro footage out of chronological order and made Totoro seem really malevolent.

It was taken down for copyright but I have it on the PS3, I can upload it if anyone is interested. It's really good.

If you've seen the film you'll know the bit where Mei finds the little dust spider things in the wall. That bit is perfectly tied to the music changing. It's fantastic. I'll get it off the PS3 later this evening. The only flaw is it's the crap bit rate of the extended Requiem for a Tower version so the sound quality isn't as good as I'd have liked. The editing makes up for it.

Damn....just finished the Angel Season 2 ep: "The Trial".

I fucking love this show. The characters and all their story arcs. The color palettes and lighting. The music. Lorne :D. The humor. The dialogue. The settings. The modern gothic feel. I can't say enough.

The final minute of this episode always gets me clapping and "hurrahing"
when Dru walks into the motel room after Lindsay (he's fecking cool too...although a they castrated him a little in Season 5).
Not really worth "spoiler" tagging, because everyone who's reading this has seen it or has no interest in seeing it anyways....but lurkers....they are among us.

I wish I could have the imagination or the team of writers to co-write a serialized TV series. I'd love to have something to make people laugh, cry, tremble in fear, smile and just go "WTF". It'd be wonderful.

You get to add in all sorts of little things.

I love it when TV series have these tiny little minor things mentioned in episodes that don't mean much until much later. Like in this episode, just a quick mention of Holtz. Little do we realize he's not just a name thrown into the wind until the next season. That kind of stuff. For the nerds. :D

Merl only in three? I would have guessed about half a dozen. He was a great character. :laugh: His voice was perfect for his personality.

It's a shame they had to censor the fight scenes so much. The editing is a bit choppy at times during the fights because of the things they couldn't film and/or show. Aside from that, bloody good show. Holtz was so good. He did some bad things.

I never noticed. I thought the Angel/Faith fight in Five By Five was intensely violent without ever really showing much.

the Leland/Bob and Maddie scene is a perfect example. There was nothing really shown or done.....but fuck...that is still ONE of the most intense scenes in a TV show I have ever seen.

Holtz is one of my favorite villians of all time. He has a perfectly reasonable motive and if I were him I'd do the same. Mayor Wilkins in Buffy is another one of my faves for different reasons.

I can see both sides of the argument. (Beat) Takeshi Kitano gets it right, I think. He shows the violence, sometimes it's almost too graphic but it's broken up by the quiet introspective side of the character. All his films are like that. If the violence is for the audience, for the shock factor, yea, take it out np. If its for the character development it has to stay. With Kitano it's a constant unbalanced scale but if it was balanced it would ring false.

Feck. That's a tough question.

Boiling Point and Sonatine are older, more Yakuza based. Less developed. Kikujiro plays on his tough Yakuza image that fans are used to from the previous films. I love it. :D Hanna-Bi is my absolute favourite but it's very slow in places. Some really long lingering shots, almost like Kubrick at times. Pick any one.

For me, the very best fight scenes are the ones where you genuinely feel like everyone involved in the fight is in danger. With TV shows, there's often an expectation that certain characters aren't going to be killed off, so it's really special when they pull that feeling off and you can just sit there, afraid to look away for the whole fight. Of course, Joss loves killing people off, so maybe this doesn't apply to the Whedonverse. ;)

Focusing on the characters when they were happier mid-fight is also something that really works for me when it's pulled off. Thinking of the Anya's Lost Song scene in Selfless and the really jarring cut they use in particular.

I also think that what you don't show can be incredibly powerful, and I wish more people in the entertainment business could take advantage of this. My imagination can be much, much more brutal than anything that'd get shown onscreen, and sometimes particularly sickening sound effects are what haunt me at night.

Not really the same thing, but the shadow of the body being consumed by bugs in The Mummy remains one of my favorite uses of CG ever.

Focusing on the characters when they were happier mid-fight is also something that really works for me when it's pulled off. Thinking of the Anya's Lost Song scene in Selfless and the really jarring cut they use in particular.

I also think that what you don't show can be incredibly powerful, and I wish more people in the entertainment business could take advantage of this. My imagination can be much, much more brutal than anything that'd get shown onscreen, and sometimes particularly sickening sound effects are what haunt me at night.

We sat down one night....talked about the story. He went in and created a story ( I should throw in that he hates scd i-fi/fantasy).......he wrote a sci-fi draft, handed it to me....i took it and threw in the characteristics and went from there.
I think the best part was the fact that he hated sci-fi or anything like that.

Interesting. Blade Runner is a little like that. It's totally Sci-Fi but at the same time it's not. It's Noir underneath the Sci-fi gloss.

I'm unsure how to proceed which is why I asked.

I'm completely open to the idea of someone telling me that passage is arse roll, cut it! etc. It'll be so amazing to get a second perspective.

I like when they do stuff like female versions of certain sentai, because I guess I like that extra degree of separation from the actual character, even if I haven't seen almost all these shows. Making the suit acting really feel like the Gokaiger character helps too, they're great at doing that with Don. Wonder if there's anyone in the sentai universe who can out-spazz him. XD

Mike, I wanted to respond to something you said about Gokaiger mech stuff, but I didn't do it when I first read the post and now I can't find it again. ; ; Anyway! I feel like the mech fights are really de-emphasized right now. Maybe this is because the regular fights are SO AWESOME to me (Joe's dual wielding! Marvelous fighting in handcuffs!), but I could also see them not doing as much right now since they're using so much CG, and that can't be cheap. At least I feel like a lot of the CG fights are very cool. Gokaiger's definitely a popcorn sort of show!

What are everybody's opinions on Gokaiger characters so far? Allen, if you see this, would love to see your answers too! As for me~

Marvelous: He's my favorite so far. I feel like he's had pretty great characterization in every episode but 4, so that's part of it, but I just also really like his personality. He reminds me so much of Tsukasa.

Joe: Pretty much love him after all that fighting in episode 4. I'm such a sucker for good swordplay and that sort of focus in battle.

Don: Feel like his first episode didn't have as much characterization as it could have, but I find his awkwardness/spaziness to be adorable. BROOM BLADE! Really excited to see more of his Sherlock Holmes' movie-esque style of thinking as the series progresses.

Luca: Really like her in spite of her lack of screentime so far. She's just really charming. Loved her being all ready to fight and then having everyone run away in episode 5. Excited for more of her!

Ahim: She still drives me crazy. Sorry, Robbu~ Kind of ship her with Joe though, if only because that moment's the most I've liked her when she wasn't henshin'd. She actually had a personality!

Ahim is good in that she wasn't what I was expecting. She did call that one person a commoner, but other than that she just seems reserved and not haughty or princess-y at all. I'm letting Luka grow on me, but right now the coolest thing she's done is be Ninja Black.

I got the special edition of Mulholland Drive with... wait for it... chapter points! Lynch was worried people would jump to the clam bumping scene so he removed the chapter points from the first release. The special edition puts them in but makes them really weird. The menu to select them is a picture and the things in the picture have no relevance to the chapter. I think. Maybe. :-P

What did you all think of Inland Empire? I've watched it 3 times and still have no idea WTF is going on. I think if it was shorter it would be less alienating.

I'm working on the cover of my 1990-94 compilation. I'm having trouble with the actual music, trying to make it not all similar, so I decided I'd best do something related to it. I started to do a draft version of my cover too....but I ended up trashing it. It was the same cover I had before with obviously different text but a silhouette of Raphael too.

I'm having trouble with the track listing too. 1990 had a few songs I'm ashamed of, yet I feel it would be great to represent.....after that 91-94 had songs which are fantastic to return to. It's difficult to find a place for the few 1990 songs on this disc without breaking the flow of the compilation.

I also re-watched "Clerks" this morning to try to find the perfect clip to sample. My favorite part has music over it....fuck.

I think I've only see that once, in the background of a review for something else.

I think it's a pretty safe assumption too, even if they didn't have the chance to confirm it on the show. Just doesn't make sense that one high level undead form would be unable to take a human form when others can, not to mention what you pointed out about Spider.

Anyways, I really like this theory. Hajime works so hard not to identify with his Joker side, so it makes sense that he'd think of Chalice in that way, and that his desires could be that powerful. Choosing to believe this is canon.

I wondered the exact same thing about Reds when I'd only seen Power Rangers and clips from various sentai series! They really make them worth the time they put into them over in Japan. Alata, Takeru, Captain Marvelous- all fantastic characters. Not a big fan of any PR reds I've seen (although I did like the Forever Red episode of Wild Force). They don't seem to have as much personality time variation with reds over here either. Think that plays a big role!

There is so much KAMEN RIDER AS A LITTLE GIRL art out there. Don't understand! I like the gender swapping art, but making them little girls specifically seems weird unless it fits the character. Saw one gender bending pic with all the main riders and Faiz, Hibiki, Kabuto, and Decade were all little girls. WTP. ; ;

They do character specific episodes constantly in sentai! Don's episode still had a lot of Marvelous, but Joe's episode was all about him, with a little Ahim thrown in. The impression that I get is that most characters get developed pretty well in sentai, although there might be someone who's a little shortchanged at the end.

so far, i've seen a lot of marvelous. i guess since he's team leader it's understandable, but argh, it's so frustrating. shake up the formula mang.

I'm sure there's some reason behind Red being the color they always use for the leaders. It's like how Clubs is the Suit of Wands and so Leangle uses a rod.

I don't know. Much of Picasso's work is public domain. Don't know about that one. I left his signature on, it would have been very easy to remove it. I wasn't trying to clam it was mine. I just said I modded it. He died in 1973 so I don't think he'll be calling at my door.

I should really go check out the local libary here for graphic novels and a few other things. I've really investigated the library for that stuff. Mostly just CDs, DVDs and a few art books.

There was a time about 4 years ago I had read every graphic novel the library had to offer so I didn't check them for months. Something happened and now they have many hundreds of them, and barrels of manga as well but it's mostly teenage stuff. I did find Lone Wolf & Cub and Oldboy and Battle Royale amongst the pink girly shelves though. :D

There are people who make extremely high quality toku costumes. I have to think that a sentai costume would be significantly cheaper than a Kamen Rider one. Plus, you can probably buy anything MMPR affiliated in an adult size in the US without having it custom made. Just would have a lower quality helmet.

I've seen sentai suits on ebay without the helmets. Seems like helmets are their own separate business unto itself.

All of the boys' helmets from Shinkenger and Goseiger are pretty epic, imo. Mako's is cool. Kotoha's is my least favorite.
