I loved the pilot. Cool to see Hawkings from "Jericho" in another "End of the world as we know it" series. Although, I noticed the actor (Lennie James) was only credited as a guest star, so we might not see him again for awhile.

Just one thing....this is a Frank Darabont production, right? Then where's Will Sadler?

So I saw Due Date. I'm a huge fan of road trip buddy movies and The Hangover was one of the best comedies of last year, so I figured I'd be in for a treat. Turns out it's a second-rate knockoff of Planes, Trains and Automobiles, one of my favorite movies. If you've seen the trailer for Due Date, I assure you that you've seen all the best parts. Ok, Metropolis.

Fritz Lang being German fled Germany during the great Hilter Expo which lasted until about 1945. During this time the place was bombed to hell and the country lost many of it's great art works including the masters to Metropolis. Now for whatever reason almost every theater cut the movie up big time so it was believed that no copy of the original cut survived. That is until one was found in Argentina. It survived by way of never being returned to the distributor because the war broke out.

Now sadly the film was in I think they said 8mm and was very degraded so the aspect ratio doesn't match the rest of the film and it's lower quality. Because of this I actually know what's new because the restored parts are grainier, has a green tint to it, & there's black bars on the sides to bring it in frame with everything else. Unfortunately there are still a few scenes that are lost, text in a different fount appear describing what happened in that particular instance.

I forgot to say that because of the above, I, who have never seen the film knew what was new to it.

It's a very impressive movie. To think someone made a movie that's over 2 & a half hours in the silent film era is astonishing. And the models & mat paintings are all really good looking. Like if I was making a movie with zero money I'd rather have something like that than cheap cgi.

While it did drag on in many places and the fact that I don't get when silent films have the people talk but don't put up any dialogue for it, it was still more interesting than many other movies I've seen. Plus seeing the all the different period cultural and acting styles was interesting.

While I'm on it, Osamu Tezuka's movie does do some original things with the story. From simple things like there are robots everywhere to more spoilery stuff. You'd want to see it if you like the original or just want to compare cultural views on stuff.
