do what cuckoo does.

i usually go to bed about 3am, rise up at 7am.....do that 6 nights a week, then crash hard one night of the week with about 10 or 11 hours of sleep.

i'll admit, it's not healthy and probably does something funny to my mentality, but......well.....um.......no....gee....there really is no advantage to this cycle

Did you add the Shawshank and Jacob's samples to the "Inside" track on WTSGD disc 2?
If not, then what album is that off?

cuckoo77
12-07-2009, 07:06 PM
yup....bang on.

I added the SHawshank.....but the Jacob's Ladder was all ready on there.

how about the FIre Walk With Me snippet with Laura talking about burning up in space, that glues Inside and Sunshine together? I love it.....it makes it 10 times sadder and fits like a glove.

Dr Faustus
12-07-2009, 07:13 PM
Excellent stuff. I love it when things just mesh so perfectly that it seems obvious they belong together. I felt the hip hop track was out of place, but I'm not a fan of that genre so thats probably why I thought that. But the movie samples and the moody music are really effective. Laura is a tragic figure, sadness is her vice. Damn, more like that please. Lost Highway would have some good dialogue I'd guess.

cuckoo77
12-07-2009, 07:16 PM
which hip-hop?

the one on the first disc or the 2nd disc........i thought about that on the 2nd disc.

The disc got darker and darker and darker....then suddenly that song popped up.

Conceptually, it doesn't work in that spot....listening wise, it does lighten things up for a brief moment. I thought, maybe the CHarlie Clouser mix might be dark enough to work.....apparently not.

i'm fond of the mixing of Harry Gregson Williams' Man On Fire score mixed in with the hip-hop on the first disc....seamlessly worked well together though.

Dr Faustus
12-07-2009, 07:29 PM
Yeah, it was the first disc that had the hip hop, maybe it's not but that's how i'd describe it. Called "Moving Through Streets".
Preliator was epic. Dramatic as hell. Then I felt the hip hop conflicted. Black Light Burns, I'm a fan of so it was good. And the Penguin. LOL. "I run rings around you logically." Python never gets old. And I'm a hugh Elfman fan but I'd never actually heard Oingo before, so that was good too. "Through The Dark" was new to me, but I liked it immensly, a nice closer.
Overall, loved it, especially disc 2. But don't tell cuckoo, he'll get a God complex and smite us all with his pointing finger. Or force us to listen to his coldplay collection.

meh...that's the only Coldplay I'm gonna use.......i'm not much of a fan...but i like that song (among a couple more)......i heard it on the tv series, Jericho and had to have it.

Apparently, it was written for Johnny Cash to sing, but he died before he recorded it.

here's a funny little list:

http://www.spike.com/blog/10-movies-we-dare/90167

Interesting. I own a few of those. Oldboy is highy recommended. Audition is a good one too. It disturbed even me. Will have to hunt down Imprint, didn't know about it. Thaks for that.

cuckoo77
12-08-2009, 07:18 PM
Audition is a wonderful movie..........

I thought Oldboy was okay....i think it got overhyped for me.

but me thanks the heavens Spielberg and Will Smitty Smitt Smith cancelled their plans to remake it.

Hard Candy was good, but I don't know what it's doing on this list. There is a pretty harsh home-surgery scene ;) though.

I'm gonna hunt down Imprint as well.

I SPit On Your Grave is a feel good horror classic :D

as for the rest of the movies....i don't know if i have the stomach for them. When I was younger, i would have been all over them, but now? I dunno.

Dr Faustus
12-08-2009, 07:24 PM
Oldboy Director Park Chan Wook did a trilogy of "vengeance" films. They aren't connected by character or plot. Oldboy was the second, the third one is called "Lady Vengeance" and is much better.

Never saw Hard Candy, the title put me off when I found out what it meant.

Dumplings should be on that list. A Korean movie I think. Originally part of the "3 Extremes" series, it was expanded into a full length and is stomach churning at times, but wonderfully filmed.

Haven't saw that About Schmidt. Just watched a trailer for Gummo. Looks bizarre. And Eraserhead doesn't really belong on any of those lists. It's way out there in the freaky stakes, but it's not disturbing. Or is that just me?

cuckoo77
12-08-2009, 07:44 PM
Eraserhead appeared on a few of those, didn't it?

No...i didn't find it as disturbing as some of the other Lynch films......but I guess, we're also kind of not normal.

Gummo? i haven't seen it...i've heard things......i'll watch the trailer.

EDIT: looks quite interesting. if it's anything like "KIDS", i'll come out of it, feeling dirty and really depressed.

Dr Faustus
12-08-2009, 07:59 PM
I haven't watched "Kids" either. Takashi Miike did a movie called "Ichi: the killer" that went on the obscene list before it even got released over here. It's a badly paced film, with some ridiculous plot devices but it's extreme in the extreme at times.

I can link you to some Richard Kerns shorts if you're interested? He's a photographer that did some experimental 16mm and super 8 shorts in the late 70's with Lydia Lunch. They are kind of offensive, but they are for a reason.

I keep clicking on "thread in which we respectfully comment on pictures of other users in noncreepy ways" thinking it's this thread.

I don't know why, maybe it's the post count or perhaps my brain sees the word "creepy" and immedietely couples it with this thread.

Dr Faustus

I've did that a few times too. It's the lazy brain, it just sees the lenghty title and the finger instinctually clicks. The eyes to brain to finger pathways are all messed up. It's probably due to all the depravity we see in this thread.

let's hope for The Lizard. :D

Tom Toonami Tunes

Make it a 2 parter with the 2nd one being about Craven hunting the lizard and Spidy having to some how keep Craven from killing the Lizard and keep the Lizard from killing anyone else all the while trying to find a cure for him.

12-10-2009, 08:15 AM

The Vulture may be in The Amazing Spider-man's 2nd issue, but let's face it, it's a weak choice.
All this is just rumor at this point, could just be "nerd bait" lies.
I don't know what I was hoping for Spider-man has one of the campiest antagonists.
Morbius, Carnage and the Lizard!
This is the kind of stuff fanboys are expecting.
I'm not really a spider-man fan, so I don't care.

Spider-man needs relevance again and the Vulture isn't it.
Post Watchmen- Post Dark Knight it would be better to move the story forward with something like Carnage instead of backward with Vulture.
Mega giant Sony always overmanages Spider-Man because of all the perceived value interfering with the creative process in stories by committee.
At this point it would be hard to ruin the property, but they sure gave it the team effort.

Horner is often accused of re-using his own songs.
Aliens, Star Trek 2, Battle Beyond the Stars, KRULL and Wolfen all have some of the same cues.
I don't mind this. This soundtrack seems to be hearkening back to his older work.
I'm only on track 3 now.
So far it's good music.
I'm not listening too critically right now.
Judge for yourself!

cuckoo77
12-11-2009, 07:01 PM
I don't really mind if someone takes from their own work.

Hell, I don't really even care if someone mimics another composer's work

but when it comes to exact plagirism that's pushing it. Tyler Bates' 300 cue that stole Elliot Goldenthal's Titus cue is an exact copy......who the hell did Bates think he was gonna fool?

but yeah...i'm gonna me a listen to this score. I liked what I heard in the samples. Very ethnic and tribal....and not in the Ewok's way.

Tom Toonami Tunes
12-11-2009, 09:54 PM

a wretched little piece of American Billboard Charts friendly crap.

reminds of the time i heard rumours of the Star Wars prequels possibly doing the same thing with a "hit" song to peg to the films.

Atleast George Lucas cut 'N Sync's cameo outta the 1st movie.

although, i gotta admit, I'm fond of the 3 songs that were pegged onto the LOTR trilogy films......they actually fit really well with the scores and films.

rick_says

Yeah I don't mind the LOTR songs or that song tacked on to Dracula for instance.

I don't actually recall the song from Dracula...i know it was Annie Lennox...i just don't remember it.

As for the Star Wars thing.....i remember hearing about it...i just can't find anything about it......
...or the *NSYNC thing either....i heard they filmed a scene of them in the background of the Galactic Senate but were ultimately cut because it would be too distracting....however they did keep in the E.T.'s and the Giger ALiens.

12-12-2009, 01:46 AM
Yes, they used Elephants in costumes.

cuckoo77
12-12-2009, 01:48 AM
those are some toasty elephants

EDIT: ahhhh:

"Rather, an elephant was dressed in a costume of fur and fake horns. This proved problematic for George Lucas during filming. The elephant was unaccustomed to heat, and during the filming of Tatooine scenes in Death Valley, California, its costume kept coming off."

In a recent Avatar interview, Sigourney Weaver said her son from Ghostbusters 2, Oscar, has himself become a Ghostbuster -- the lead Ghostbuster, in fact. She then goes on to talk a little about Bill Murray. Discussing his character Peter Venkman she says, "He might be a ghost."

is she joking? what?
she didn't seem to be joking in the tv interview........uh-oh.

i don't actually have my thinking cap on, but i have no idea what you're talking about.

me thinks it might be some sorta scathing remark about the idiots who buy these poor little dogs as fashion accessories or for X-mas presents....only to find most of them turned into the pound once the novelty has worn off.
Did you know chihuahuas make up more than 30% of the dog population in American shelters/pounds. The California pounds and shelters are filling up so fast with these poor little dogs they have to shipped out of the state just to find room.
that's sad and disgusting.
