I buy pretty much all my trades on Amazon, they are super cheap. I mostly get hardcovers too, because the binding is nicer and they look nicer on shelves. I usually get regular books off Amazon too.

Sparky, I missed your post, but I hate it when album versions of tracks make little changes too. Like the original leaked version of Extraordinary Machine isn't that different from the one on the album, but the original is just a million times better to me. Just removing a little bit or changing the way a few words are sung makes a big difference. There's versions of stuff I don't know how to get without doing DVD rips or hoping I can grab it off YouTube too. :(

I almost always pay $10-15 for my trades. Sometimes even less, if it's paperback. I occasionally pay a little more for something harder to get or really nice, but these days, it's so easy to get stuff as it comes out. Marvel books can be a bit of a pain, though, since they tend to go out of print really quickly. Don't like feeling like I have to buy stuff right away, and sometimes, I don't learn I want something until it's really old.

Regarding Twilight Princess earlier on; I liked it. But that's the thing. Normally, every Zelda game leaves me moved in some way. This is the first one that didn't really. I mean, there were some "ZOMG!" moments, but not many. The rest of the experience was merely adequate. OK. Enjoyable, but not anything special. I still wish I'd bought the GCN version, though. The controls for the Wii version feel perpetually awkward.

Hardly ever find a store with imports and region free.

I like the idea though. Simpler than using software to remove region (AnyDVD, DVDFab, MakeMKV, etc).

I was obsessed with the 1st when it came out. I have no idea what happened to my copy.
DVDs tend not to sell for very much unless they are brand new or rare. Worse depreciation than a new car. Plastic comes off and it goes from $30 to $3.

I've given up on Ebay. I prefer another site, called PriceMinister over here (maybe it exist under another name in the US). No bids, so no possibility to bid then 5 seconds before the end see a fucker bid 1€ more than you.

So now, his money is in PM's hand and the order has been sent. Order is then confirmed by the seller. seller sends stuff, buyer receives, confirm that he received the stuff and is happy with it. Money is then forwarded by PM to seller.

and everybody's happy. I hear way less bad stories about PM than about Ebay around here, where cons are sadly still frequent because Ebay France simply doesn't give a fuck. Idiots.:mad:

there are no possibility to contest the price. basically, french commercial law says that when you buy, you accept the price as fair. end of story. either way, either you get your money or you get your item back. I suppose there is room for negociation, but I've never heard of any big problem, and I know a guy who's made more than 5000 sells there. not a single problem. Still, I guess there is the random con, but it must be pretty hard to pull.

Alright here are some screen caps. DVD played on the computer dvd drive with media player classic. They're kinda fuzzy and out of focus. If I don't have the player at full view the picture is as good as if it was being played on a DVD player. I need to find out how to take a screen capture that's big enough to be used as a wallpaper but still be of good quality. I noticed most ways to take screen shots is by taking a picture of the desktop. I think what I need to do is somehow take a screen grab directly from the DVD. If that makes sense.

I know if you use the 'save image' feature in MPC it will only save the image as the size of the original file image size, not as the size you have stretched on the screen.

Try through VLC. It has a dedicated pic capture option. Those pics are pretty big. They fill my desktop if I put them 100%.

Yep. DVD resolution is natively 720x480. Anamorphic goes about 856x480.

That's why some shots look skinny. Someone did it wrong.

But yes, if you have the BD version you can take screenshots. MPC, VLC and then other ways work too.
It will be 1920x1080, with the black bars.

You can crop them. And tell your windows to keep original aspect ratio without altering the image.

You can't just right click and change the aspect ratio?

I can funk with the ratio in VLC, but it doesn't get into the proper size regardless of which I select. Picking the same ratio in Mplayer works fine. I can't explain it. Hence asking Sparks.

Separate files. .ass files, to be specific. That always made me :laugh:

They release raws as soon as they get them. Then the subs. Then versions with hard subs. If I wasn't itching to watch on a given week, I'd wait for the complete file. It was a bit hard not to grab the raws, since if you had it, then subs took 2 seconds to dl and you could watch as soon as the subs were ready.

If it's the separate file, under preferences, subtitles/OSD you can manually select the sub file. I did that to watch the suicide girl movie Doc gave me.
Just remember to change it back when you're done or it will play the subs for everything. :rolleyes:

Yep, that's how I did it and it'd never open properly. I can't remember if it funked with the audio or the video. It stalled one or the other. This was back during OOO. I was thinking I had maybe grabbed something from them recently, and it occurs to me I did. I watched that raw, though. I understood it fine. As shallow as it was. Gokaiger :rolleyes:

VLC can be real finnicky when it comes to subs. I've never really had any problems getting .ass to do what I want it to do for me. Then again, I don't get .ass as much as I'd like either. .ass is a commodity here~

It would be best to check the options in Advanced mode in VLC.
If you can tinker it and get it to show you .ass in Simple options, go to Advanced options.

VLC has its own internal plugins, filters, decoders for stuff like subs. But you can also get it to work with an external subtitler.
I use DirectVobSub, it's a direct show filter and usually works with most media players.
Except for Cyberlink products or similar software-heavy players (ArcSoft, etc).

I always forget he's on a mac. Who knows what differences that makes...

I've never really had any problems getting .ass to do what I want it to do for me.

Thems work good.

Also look for an option that has "heuristic search" or something.
It will locate the sub files, even if they're not named exactly the same as the video file (like a scene release added on the end).
It searches for the same characters and other sub info to see if it matches the video file.

I don't like when I start to customize one option, I find myself customizing the whole lot and then double checking them later because I somehow convinced myself I had it better in the last configuration right before re-configuring it again.

The large portion of toku fandom that wants to pretend it's not Japanese is just bizarre to me. Overtime aren't even the worst by far. There are people who will translate EVERYTHING. Every movie, every name. They probably grew up dreaming of doing Funimation hackjobs and had to fufill their dreams elsewhere.

I can see having a little fun with the translation (I am pretty sure every person who translates hentai on the planet is actively trying to be hilarious), but my general preference is to stick close to the original, and explain punny jokes/cultural references. That's part of the appeal of fansubs.

In the sense of fairness, I'll say something negative about TvNihon, now.

I don't agree with Takenoko's latest translation tweet. It's complicated given my opinion on another part of this matter, so hear it out.

He doesn't like to use hyphens in place of vowels. He's doing it now, when the word in question is clearly written on a car, in the show. I tend to go with the way things are written, assuming that it isn't a trollish situation like Unkh and TaJaDol. The people writing copy for these shows are perfectly educated and aware of how English works. If it had only happened once, ever, okay. But, it's happened plenty of times.

That's okay for the most part since, in general, we tend to like Engrish. I do. I think it's fun, except when it directly contradicts logic and decisions they've made in the past. Doru Doru and CondoR. They know how to spell Condor. It's on purpose. End of story.

I'm getting off topic.

Besides instances like that, I like to go with stuff that's explicitly written out. Go-Onger jackets are what I always think of. I like adding Us but the jacket says Sosuke. I understand why the O gets added to pronunciation of some words, but his name is Hant. I'll say it Hanto, of course, but it's written Hant.

Appropriately enough, the issue with hyphens is present in Go-Onger. He insisted on using Tyline and Keline. It's not TYE-line and KEY-line (or Kay-lene) It's T-line and K-Line. They're commuter trains. You take the K-Line to whatever stop.

Live action shows have ALWAYS left a bad taste in my mouth..... no matter what era it's from. So I tend to not want to watch any.... I usually blame the writing and terrible acting...... Firefly was good on both counts <3

That's a pity. Watch some of the older stuff. It is that kind of cheesy stupid that sticks in my craw nowadays, but you would probably like.

As to Firefly, finish it, then watch Serenity. If you like it, look up more Joss Whedon stuff or stuff produced by Tim Minear. Wonderfalls is a good example. That one is on my Nut list.

Because of circumstances too complicated to explain here, Deb and I ended up at the premiere of Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie. The guys doing Bulk and Skull were on stage to do the intro. Their opening line? "The doors have been locked, there is no chance for escape." It was the best bit all night.

One of my friends met Bulk. I was totally jealous. Bulk and Skull were what kept me watching Power Rangers when I was no longer that invested in the plots or the cast. I can't make myself watch Samurai, though. ; ;

I like all Whedon shows. Even Dollhouse. It's really uneven, but when it was great, man, was it great. Bummed he's probably not going to do much TV now, but Cabin in the Woods was amazing, so I guess I'll live. ;)

I almost gave up on Dollhouse, but after the sixth episode it was like a flip was switched and it became great. Don't know what the deal was there, but whoever is responsible for those first six eps should be ashamed for making such an interesting premise boring.

The original pilot script was fantastic, but Fox asked them to try making it more episodic? And so they did, till episode 6. To be fair, pretty much all Whedon shows that aren't Firefly started kind of slow. I wasn't crazy about Buffy or Angel till a good way into their first seasons either.

Don't ever watch Samurai. Under any circumstances. Dl Shinkenger and buy the Samurai toys if you don't have the budget for the original mecha and figuarts.

In fact, if you just want the main mecha and Genta's, buy the American two-pack, put it together and never take it apart. Better stability than the Japanese original. Blasphemous, I know, but it's the truth.
