A fascinating premise taken to ridiculous extremes. Sort of a cross between Being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, except without the lasting appeal. Paul Giamatti was good in this one...the story, not so great.

Paper Heart: ***
This one is so cute, it's hard not to have a smile on your face throughout the whole pseudo-documentary, even for a cynical asshole like me. I thought it was very well acted, and the lead actress was endearing. I found the conclusion lacking though; for such a happy-go-lucky movie, the ending felt needlessly ambiguous and unsatisfying.

Inglourious Basterds: ***1/2
An interesting art house movie punctuated by moments of extreme violence. At two and a half hours (typical for a Tarantino flick), it almost overstays its welcome, but the masterful direction and dialogue keeps you on the edge of your seat. I also loved the musical choices, and the overall "Western" feel of the film. I liked it a lot, but I still think Kill Bill Vol. 2 is his best work.

Shorts: **
Pretty lame. The moments of wish-fulfillment are kinda fun, but overall too "kiddish" and over-the-top. It also takes a strange out-of-chronological-order approach to the story, which doesn't really add anything to the movie. And when you take it all away, it really is just about a wishing rock. Rodriguez should've retired from making children's flicks after Spy Kids 3-D.
