I think it's probably safe to say that MOST of the readily accessible food in Ahmercah is pretty bad. Bland, chewy, disgusting, salty, silicony (I still don't think silicon dioxide is a good idea for food).......... Canned foods are abundant but usually not too good. Soups are fine, canned ravioli is ok, canned sghetti is alright, canned macaroni is bleh, canned nacho cheese is BLECH, canned meat is bigger BLECH. There's a few frozen dinners that are still good. Quite a few things from Stouffers is really good for frozen dinners. Boston Market frozen dinners changed companies and broke my heart. They had THE BEST frozen macaroni but then switched manufacturers and it all turned into ASS. Any sweet snack you pick up over here is at least 20g of sugar (usually a lot more) for just 3 bites or less of a "cream" filled cake. It's really no wonder why so many of us have health problems. Our quick foods in the stores are just so meh. I've been having problems for the last several years trying to find something I even like that's a quick heat up thing for lunch :sad: I'm only down to less than ten things (probably 5). The only real way to get good food around here is to make it yourself or go out to eat constantly....

Yes, to at least 4gb of ram.
CPU's are all generally okay these days.
The main thing about the processor is to make sure it's at least 2-cores (dual-processor). This makes thing less laggy.

NVidia is really nice. The newer models generally support hardware decoding for movies: h264, vc-1, mpeg.
And they usually have at least 128mb of video ram, too. 64mb at the very least.

AMD or Intel, either or for the processor.
Intel has it's own hardware decoding capabilities too for movies.

With the video card and processor hardware decoding movies, it should be easy for you to watch 1080p.
Either half the bitrate of a remuxed blu-ray or a full remux of a blu-ray.

HMDI out is also really nice, and quite standard these days me thinks.

My brother got a really nice HP Pavillion with HDMI, Nvidia, Intel, 6gb for under 900$ (Canadian).
It supports hardware decoding, so playing a full BD is so smooth and beautiful.
(I'm going to swap mine for his when he isn't looking).

I do a sort of smi-homemade thing. I will buy quick meals and such, but augment them with fresh ingredients. I always have onion, red and yellow bell peppers, blocks of cheese to grate, mushrooms etc. You'd be surpised how a few fresh toppings can change a frozen pizza....or lasagna etc. The only thing for me is I still have trouble making just enough for one, so I end up eating a lot of left-overs. And, the crock pot is my best friend. I get a powdered soup mix, and slow cook it. For the cheddar brocoli, I add fresh brocoli, and grate monterey jack onto it when I dish it up. For the chicken noodle, I add fresh chicken. MMmmmm soup is good food.

It's only from the 2000 era though :sad:
2gb of ram, dual-processor. But no GPU decoding :sad:
DVXA though :awsm: better than nothing :laugh: :sad:

The only problems I encounter are stability issues whenever I want to try out new software.

I've got most of my Virtual Machine isntalled, still need to get around to tweaking that a bit, then i'll be able to try all this new software without further jeopardizing my OS.

lots and lots of people in France wouldn't eat snails even if their life depended on it. Nor Frogs for that matter. Actually, it's more the kind of thing you have as an entry dish for Christmas, or big occasions. and again, it is less and less common. At least I hope.

Yeah, not a lot of tv is getting 1080 treatments.
Recently only the very first season of Tom & Jerry got 1080.
I haven't seen anything for the first gen of Tranformers, TMNT, Looney Tunes, Animaniacs, nothing.

for cartoons, animated and CG, 720 is sufficient without seeing any sort of degradation.

For 480 stuff, anything from today will let you watch your videos, chat online, convert music at the same time and probably a few other things too :laugh:

Word by itself I think is the problem. I started using the stripped down wordpad just because it didn't crash when I tried to copy/paste. Only thing I miss is the word count tool. Word takes forever just to open too.
Otherwise, I can have Firefox open with multiple tabs, iTunes, xfire while playing call of duty, and ventrilo at the same time with no problems.

That and I'm running a much older version of Word so there's that too. I just really need to retire this thing....

What I'm getting is in four parts so I'm hoping to be able to join them together somehow so the full concert is one file.

I always preferred avi but I have the means now to play mp4 on my hi-fi so I'm happy with either.

The only time I stitched videos together was with the MS movie maker....... I don't like it at all. It left a noticeable little lag between sections and forces format saves in formats I don't want. I wanna find somethin' else for that job........ I have a lot of things to stitch that I just haven't gotten to yet.......

Jdl is pretty derpfree......... the only problems I ever had was it tripping over itself on MU links. One would stop connecting then it moved to another but it had to wait then it went back to the first and it would stop then wait then the second link then oops 2 connections to MU at once then wait then back to first then stop then back to second then oops and wait. It would do that for hours if it got tripped up. But only ever happened with MU link :smrt: I'm so glad I went on that dl binge a few weeks ago before MU went down. If I had waited til now I would've been upset :laugh:

that's the problem. Jelly is one of the few british food I can't eat. Mint sauce, Fries with malt vinegar, worcester sauce on egg, bacon, eggs and beans for breakfast, scones, every damn thing except Jelly and Marmite.

As for Jelly, the first time it was after Lasagna, the second time, can't remember. But I thing it was the chemical taste that made me throw up. I like my desserts a little bit more natural. like a nice piece of Lemon pie. or Pudding. anything, but no Jelly.

the Japs are weird. they know there is an awful lot of pirating going with their anime and anime music.

but they more or less let it pass. because they then know what they can export and make some big bucks, because many people will still prefer the confort of a real TV to watch a DVD than their PC or Laptop monitor to watch a fansub which can bug because of lacking codecs or simply crappy encoding.

I did delete two recent-ish comics I uploaded for Rob when he couldn't find them and I could only find them via torrent, but I'd never meant to share them with anybody but him anyway. I think I'm just leaving stuff as is. I would be pretty surprised if they came after me for Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld. Though maybe it would mean they're finally releasing it in trade. :awsm:

Rars and renamed stuff generally seem to be fine anyways. If we had reason to be concerned we could always password protect them.

I definitely think Bandai capitalizes on the audience that fansubbers bring in. The US Tamashii distributors just announced they're going to start opening up some Tamashii exclusives to the US, even.

I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to work out a licensing arrangement with Crunchyroll or a similar site in the future, though. That way they get money from Crunchyroll, and they just have to pay the fansubbers a tiny bit for what they do for free. That's what happens with most anime these days. From what I understand they went after the Youtube videos because they were getting a lot of views from people in Japan.

I watch so much stuff and everything on CBS is so episodic that I don't have any real motivation to keep up with it! Barney is pretty great, though. The only thing I can think to keep links from being crawled here is to put the link in a text file and attach it to the post......... You know since coding doesn't work as intended...
