My way is kind of unconventional. I go into a movie with expectations of a 3. It can either go down or up from there, or if it's merely satisfactory, it gets the 3.

3 is the average. Any less than 3, and I'd say skip it. Anything 3 and above, and I'd say it's worth your time.

I tend to only give 5s out to movies I've seen loads of times, or movies I watch with nostalgia glasses (not very professional of me, but who gives a shit).

Movies with 4 and 4.5 have the potential to grow into a 5 over time.

Zeroes are specially given out to movies that plain bore me, or just piss me off. No redeeming factor whatsoever.

1s are reserved for movies I hate. 2s have some sort of redeeming factor. 2.5s are usually the hardest to give out, because it's right at the middle; it could go either way, really.

That was all over the place, but I'm not going to edit it. So :p

I think we all do that to some degree. Sometimes the nostalgia glasses lie (Ridley's Legend is a real turd, I used to love it!) but mostly the glasses stay solid for a reason: Kids movies back in the day were great then and are still great now.

Labyrinth still holds up. It's a classic.

labyrinth is a good example of how to make a good kids movie without condescending to your audience. that is the problem with the harry potter films, particularly the first few; novels are a lot more intelligent but the story is totally watered down for the films. jk rowling wanted gilliam to direct them but the studio execs wouldn't have it, thought he wouldn't make a film that could make enough money. bs, his version would been a great kid film but without being overly condescending

lucas really fucked up with prequels...a good kids film should be able to be equally appreciated by adults.

original trilogy is essentially kids' movies, despite many fans arguing otherwise, but they never got too cutesy and so if you saw them and liked them at 5 years old, you probably still appreciate them at 50.

If a movie's flat out bad, then the nostalgia glasses get shattered, but if it's still good, I think it's elevated by my initial impressions of it. There are probably movies I'd 5 that I might give a 3 or 4 if I saw them for the first time now. On the other hand, if a movie I remember as great is awful, it'll probably get a 0 or 1 instead of the 2 it deserves. XD

I definitely do this too. I have different expectations and concerns based on what sort of movie I'm sitting down to watch. Some things have a lot more weight, depending. I'd mark an animated film down way more for so-so animation (which sadly exists in a lot of my favorite animated stuff from the 60's) than I would a live-action film for so-so cinematography. Acting is a lot less important to me in horror unless it's a character based horror story. I can genuinely enjoy some solidly mediocre stuff for what it is, I couldn't do that with say, a mediocre romantic comedy.
Funny. I saw an animated Serbian film.

It had some really cool looking animation.....and some of it was really bad. For the most part it was neat to look at...it was so different. It didn't end up making a difference on my rating. I probably should have mentioned the shitty part of the animation on my Nut though. :erm:

For horror, acting has to be atleast not outright bad for me. For example Scream 1 & 2 didn't have some of the best actors in it but they played their parts well and didn't take me out of the story. 3...lots of bad actors and it showed. When Jenny McCarthy plays her part better than most of the other cast members then it just can't be forgiven.

I've enjoyed a few bad rom-coms. :erm: Don't know why.
If the performances are fun enough I don't mind them. I'd rather watch them over an Adam Sandler or a Scary Movie.


That's the hardest part of making a real mix, for me. Even if the songs are similar thematically they might not flow together all that well. I'll spend hours looking for a certain kind of song and then realize I can't make it fit with the stuff I need on there. XD

That's the beauty of 10 Songs for me.

I never really worried too much about that. They never really flowed that well but I felt they were a fine little collection of my musical week.

Almost like a diary in music.

IIRC Seth's openly said he doesn't really want to be doing Family Guy anymore and will be glad when people are sick of it. That's probably why the show has gotten so bizarrely violent, though I like the creepypasta about it (which I think was acknowledged on the show!) more.

He's ridiculously talented so I hope he gets lots of chances to work on stuff he's passionate about. American Dad started off weak (for me) but grew into something pretty great, so maybe that's his baby now.

also if he put out an album of him singing, I'd buy it, he's awesome.

Just finished watching that Road to Northpole again :awsm:

There's only 2 real music numbers then the rest is musical interludes.

I was going to rip "All I really want for christmas" and use that as a submission.

I really loved how the action score was all dramatic reworkings of Jingle Bells.I'd love some of that.

ALSO, in the opening credits, they show "em recreating various X-Mas movie scenes. One of them is the dog next to a rough snowman. And Stewie next to a chiseled Chippendales/DaVinci type sculpture, but instead of a man's head, it looks like a Teddy Bear's head.

Now. This was hilarious to me, intentional or not. There is a group specializing in nude male dancers being fondled and such by rooms full of drunk chicks. The stripper starts in a bear costume, and ends with just the bear head on. Called the Dancing Bear. Anyway, THAT was my first thought when I saw that image, and i was hooked. Even if that was not what they intended.

Plus beating the family and making it look like a robbery. Dunno I had just watched Casino the afternoon before, and folks getting beaten with bats just seems to be sticking with me image wise.

IIRC Seth's openly said he doesn't really want to be doing Family Guy anymore and will be glad when people are sick of it. That's probably why the show has gotten so bizarrely violent, though I like the creepypasta about it (which I think was acknowledged on the show!) more.

He's ridiculously talented so I hope he gets lots of chances to work on stuff he's passionate about. American Dad started off weak (for me) but grew into something pretty great, so maybe that's his baby now.

I've scrapped that top Star Wars Monster Toys article I was gonna do and instead have started a beginner's guide to Star Wars figures. The idea is to list the best versions of the main cast that's been made. Like if you could only get a few it would be out of those kind of thing. The problem I've ran into is do I limit it to just 1 figure for each character, or 1 figure per person per movie? You can get away with just 1 Luke, Leia, & Han easy enough but with the huge time difference between the prequels and the changing appearances they have in the various clone wars it'd be hard to do that for the new movies.

So I could do it by movie/series but that means the handful of KOTOR figures would actually be 1st on the list if I went by timeline instead of release date. Furthermore I was planing on having a separate category for soldiers and warriors and one for bounty hunters and outlaw types but if I go by movie then I probably should list those guy in the movie they 1st came form.

Are those new or form that other link dump post? I've just finished downloading everything today and it'll take awhile to properly listen to everything.

Good shock. 50 mb D/L is like a doc wet dream.

It's like 65 bucks. I have a dvr in each room, expanded digi channels in both rooms, showtime, HBO, and Starz in each room, the phone bundle with unlimited local and long distance, and this IE package. I tend to watch 5 or more PPV movies, and my bill averages out to 150 to 200 per month.

downloads from Megaupload should be a breeze.
Especially if you have a premium membership.
FTP downloads/uploads should be a whiz.

I've already upgraded my internet from the standard package.
I almost want to upgrade again though...
But I don't think it's really necessary at this point.

I'd need more externals if I were to do that.

IIRC Seth's openly said he doesn't really want to be doing Family Guy anymore and will be glad when people are sick of it. That's probably why the show has gotten so bizarrely violent, though I like the creepypasta about it (which I think was acknowledged on the show!) more.

He's ridiculously talented so I hope he gets lots of chances to work on stuff he's passionate about. American Dad started off weak (for me) but grew into something pretty great, so maybe that's his baby now.

also if he put out an album of him singing, I'd buy it, he's awesome.

american dad grew on me A LOT.
