Cool. The typewriter, not the I.E. I used to have a genuine old typewriter. Then I got use of an electronic one so I used it for years.

The sound of the old one, clickity clacking was like nothing else on earth. Loved it.

Got an old underwood typewriter at home. only thing I need to make it serviceable is to find some compatible ribbon. She bought the thing in Czech Republic, in the nineties, when they replaced the old typewriters by computer.

I don't believe in ghost in the traditional meaning. But I do believe there are phenomenons science can't fully explained. I stayed once in a creepy hotel in Czech republic. The Imperial Hotel, it was called. looked nice on paper, even if it was decades late in term of interior design.

I've never felt as bad as before in a hotel room. Stayed there with my mother for 2 days. we moved then to another hotel. no special phenomenon, just a real sense of unease and creepiness. And dark stains on the carpet.

Two days later we spoke with a staff member of the new hotel, and she explained to us that, back during the communist era, the Imperial hotel was the place where fallen into disgrace apparatchik were sent. according to him, they had a weird tendency to die during their stay. suicide, violent deaths.

And before the hotel was built ? there was a train station, from where the jewish community of the area was sent to auschwitz. when they weren't executed IN the station.

Only slightly relevant but hey: The Ghibli films were released out of production order here and they have numbers on the spine of the box but they are wrong! if you line them up numerically The Cat Returns comes before Whisper of the Heart. And all the rest are equally muddled. That makes me mad.

Yea. That's the main reason I'd want to see them in production order, to see the progression in the animation techniques. I can go and check the order they are numbered if anyone is interested. I have no idea why they did it like they did.

Not Arrietty, something with Poppy in the title. It's only come out in Japan, I think. Disappointed they let him do another movie but maybe this one will be better. He's just not on the skill level of Ghibli's other directors.

I can't wait. Porco Rosso was one of the first anime to have a theatrical release here, however small it was, long before Mononoke Hime (I think it was around 95, but it continue to turn in theaters for years afterward). The french dub was, for once, awesome. Casting Jean Reno as Porco was pure genius. I remember seeing it in the smallest room of the local theater. there were only 5 lucky people in there.

Including the director of the theater, who told me he was damn happy to have had the movie. even if it hadn't had much success here. I still have my old VHS of it somewhere. :swoon:

I bought Mononoke before Spirited Away was ever released but it's not got a number. I think it was the first ever Ghibli to get over here. It did get a number with the re-release so that fits your company theory. It's Optimum Asia, though. They are usually really on the ball when it comes to releases. Once Hong Kong Legends folded they took up the mantle and kept a similar level of professionalism.

It's one of those things I have no right to complain about but it drives me crazy every time I think of it.

That episode is safe! It's the third one if you count the pilot iirc. And it's one of my favorites. Dream + good Log Lady stuff. She has a lot of the best lines on the show. Funny stuff and some lines I find to be pretty moving/insightful.

The first time I heard about Spirited Away was seeing a poster for it in the Paris subway. I stopped and stared. It was playing in the theaters in Cannes, and my wife and I were very very tempted to see it there even though it would be the French dub. Saw it as soon as it came out in the US that summer.

Been following Miyazaki since his Lupin III days. Disney has the distribution rights (certainly for North America,) so it is released on their schedule. The upside is that John Lassiter oversees all the dubbing, and he and Miyazaki have this big mutual admiration society going. (The Ghibli Museum always has an exhibit for the latest Pixar movie.)

Dead Like Me: no mention of the father having a 10 minute hug with his guy friend. mother never ever brings up the magnets again. some of the qwerky visual antics disappeared after. (George's sister being invisible with only glasses, neat idea, but no one else is "invisible" or metaphored as such).

Family Guy: extremely choppy animation and style has changed from the pilot to the second episode.

American Dad: same thing.

but since there really is no real continuity between seasons in FG and AD, I don't think it really matters.
only running gags like the chicken fight, brian's novel, and Roger's origins.

Audrey and Leo have funny hair in the pilot.

Oh Shit, Jean Reno! I know that a few of them have 2 different English dubs. Like how the current Totoro has the Fannings do the little girls so obviously the english dub would have others for the 80s & 90s release. It'd be fun if they released every dub on the discs and have a feature were you can compare them and even have one guy talk in in language to another in a different one.

Reno was on the french dub only. I guess it's one of his few dub works. that's sad. he has quite the voice. there are a few french actors I'd like to see some or more dub work of, like him or Tcheky Karyo. they have very distinctive voices.

TV was awesome for once. and hard to chose from for me: WWE raw on one channel, X-files on the next one, Sherlock on a third...and Dr Who on a forth.

Nausicaa seems to have add a first release here on tape as "Princess of the stars", but that version had been re-edited, music was changed and 30mn of the movie had been cut. the edit were done by the american company that had bought and distributed it worldwide, New Worlds. It seems to have even been aired on US tv as "Warriors of the Wind". Story and characters have been changed somewhat, and it seems Miyazaki didn't appreciate :rolleyes:

I've listened to the soundtrack which has some dialogue but it's all Jap so I didn't understand it anyhow.

Grave of the fireflies is really the most depressing thing i've ever seen. it take a lot to make me "feel" sorry for the character.

On the commentary they just say they didn't want someone who had killed a child, and that's it. At first I thought that the character was supposed to have killed a child and was really confused. Figured it out when I searched for story stuff though.

They make it sound like the network really hated Rebecca Gayheart in general. Bryan Fuller said he got into arguments with them about whether or not she was attractive and really weird stuff like that. Feel bad it was so stressful behind the scenes, it's such a good show.

Kind of thought it was a shame guy who plays Holden was never on Dollhouse.

Rebecca Gayheart never really bounced back after that accident.

I wonder if her career would still be the same today if that hadn't happened.

That was on the news here. A friend told me. She'd broken some record about sales in a short amount of time, or something. I didn't see it myself. Tesco were selling it for a good price. It's a great album, give it a try if you haven't already.
