Movie news. Javier Bardem is playing Roland in the Dark Tower films. Not bad. I can see it working. :D

I've heard. :D

I was a little disappointed to hear Ron Howard is on board. I'm hoping it's just producer. I don't much like his directing.

I've only read the first 3 books, so it's not that big a deal to me. Neat books though.

HBO is making Neil Gaiman's Small Gods into a mini series. I can see that working too, as an episodic kind of thing. Nice.

HBO's turning Gaiman's American Gods into a series. :D

Terry Pratchett did Small Gods.

We'll let you go this time on account of you being ill and all.

Now, go and get better.

I've read all seven. The first 3 are the only ones you need bother with. The rest are .... hmm... I say... meh... maybe. It's hard to say. Book 6 and 7 do an odd thing. A very odd thing. Lots of deux ex machina going on make they seem kind of stupid.

i was driving and was approaching an intersection (i totally had the right of way). i went through and just as i went, a car in the perpendicular street made a right turn. i thought nothing of this because hey, he had space and it was a two lane road. but this is miami where no one knows how to drive, so even though he could clearly see me coming, he decided to turn not into the appropriate lane closest to the sidewalk, but into MY lane. i had to swerve into the other side of the street (the side of oncoming traffic) to miss and thank god there was no one there or i would have crashed. i slammed on the brakes and my car started to skid since my tires are losing tread (i need to buy new ones). i started sliding back all the way to the right and almost hit another car, but i managed to sort of gain control and stay in my lane. it was so scary. it seriously was a miracle that i didn't hit anyone. i was so fucking mad and still am now. i hope that guy or woman shit their pants and learned their lesson. i was tempted to go back and fucking yell at them, but i just wanted to get where i needed to go, and they were driving like 2 miles an hour.

You are SO lucky you're quick thinking and it wasn't as crowded as it could have been.

That kind of shit makes me so angry too.

I don't know what it is about people and driving. When they're behind the wheel, if the make a mistake, suddenly they don't have to stop or apologize. You just keep going like nothing happened. Chicken shits.

i hate it when another driver is obviously doing something stupid or being an asshole and they still get mad at me and honk their horn and flip me off.

Have photos and video of the cemetery and those graves I found today!

First, here's a shot just so you can see how far back this little trail is and get some inkling of how massive the cemetery is. Could spend so much more time exploring (and I probably will).

And now, for video!

YouTube - ‪Hidden Graves‬‏ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUNGPIJuCLo)

Actually had to go back a second time today to get that because I didn't have enough batteries for a video when I went the first time. Really glad I did, because pictures just don't convey what the path is like and how hidden the graves really are.

Here are some shots of the actual graves once you get down there. Most of them are too worn to read the dates save that one I spotted without climbing down. Have huge versions of all these photos if anyone wants to see the text on the stones more clearly.

And here are some of the many random shots I snapped while exploring the cemetery today.

Really want to figure out how to get into that school to take some pictures this weekend. Does anyone have any experience with this?

TThis is one Mandi linked me aeons ago. I've got a real hard-on for abandoned malls. Probably moreso than any other kind of building. I could explain it a bit, but on the whole it's something intangible. First area of Silent Hill 3 might very well be my favorite location in any video game, ever. Up there with Narshe and every place else in VI. Lakeview Hotel, etc.

deadmalls DOT com (http://deadmalls.com/index.html)

Was actually thinking about that not too long ago. Just was out at one of the two by me and there's a section of stores that are closed and looking semi-destroyed now. Maybe it'll be a dead mall proper again. Should've taken pictures. Keep forgetting I have a camera in my phone. ; ;

Those are fantastic. :D

There's something magical, almost faerie about sunlight through trees in a place like that. It strikes me as a place I could lay for a sleep and dream beautiful things. Plus, I love Robert frost poems. I liked that one. The one that says "My Wife and Child" is unusual by the absence of a name.

This one was my favourite.

Really want to figure out how to get into that school to take some pictures this weekend. Does anyone have any experience with this?

What? Breaking and Entering? :erm: I've did that. Only in empty deserted places, I add, for somewhere to sleep. Just smash and enter. If you get caught and if you don't mind telling a white lie you could say you saw a cat go in and you wanted to get it out, or something similar. That way you'll appear a hero, and not a criminal. :D

It's by a semi-busy road, so I've thought I might try and do it at night? Or I could try one of the back windows where no one could see. Just really want to get a change to explore and see what a school is like when no one's in it anymore. It's been closed for a while so you'd think there'd be some passageway in already.

Didn't take any pictures of it, but something else I noticed while I was exploring the cemetery was how many of the graves that were Husband, 1872-1942, Wife 1880-1946, stuff like that only had a death date for the husband. Most of the graves in this cemetery are very old, and there's no way most of these people could still be alive. It's a fascinating thing, that someone could be buried with the plans of having someone else buried alongside them, and then something happens to change all that and leave their name on two tombstones. Would love to know the story behind so many graves I see.

I found the My Wife and Child one to be really affecting, probably because of how unusual the lack of name was. There are always lots of graves that just say "Baby", but this isn't like that. Made me feel like whoever commissioned the tombstone was overcome with grief at the time.

Any time I did it I had the theory that no one else wants to get involved if they see the likes of me kicking in a door of an empty building, so they'll just go on about their daily business and leave me to mine. So I just went for it, quick as possible and then in. Was never near a busy road, though.

I've not had to do such things for a long time.
I'm grateful for what I have and where I am now.

Haha. ; ; Well, I'm fairly tiny and I sadly think I'm incapable of kicking down doors. On the other hand, people usually assume that I am doing nothing wrong no matter what the circumstances just because I look like a nice girl, or something like that.

Very glad things are better for you these days and we're all able to enjoy your company here. :)

also, you got your phone fixed?! why do i not have your number so that i can text you neat things from time to time? :(

I just went ahead and got a new phone because there was really no point in fixing that old one, especially since it was pretty crap to have broken that easily. I swear I posted about this on Facebook and asked who wanted the number, but now that I type this I realize I never see half of what other people post on Facebook anyways, so~ I'll pm you my number.

It's by a semi-busy road, so I've thought I might try and do it at night? Or I could try one of the back windows where no one could see. Just really want to get a change to explore and see what a school is like when no one's in it anymore. It's been closed for a while so you'd think there'd be some passageway in already.

Please don't go at night! Or by yourself. Chances are that if it's by a populated area (in this case the busy road) then there's a good chance the place may not be as unoccupied as might think. Vagrants love empty places at night. :(

as someone who used to dabble in urban exploration, i have to agree. if you stumble upon a vagrant they can become quite hostile, especially if they think you're a cop. plus, it's kinda like walking into someone's house at night.

i was driving and was approaching an intersection (i totally had the right of way). i went through and just as i went, a car in the perpendicular street made a right turn. i thought nothing of this because hey, he had space and it was a two lane road. but this is miami where no one knows how to drive, so even though he could clearly see me coming, he decided to turn not into the appropriate lane closest to the sidewalk, but into MY lane. i had to swerve into the other side of the street (the side of oncoming traffic) to miss and thank god there was no one there or i would have crashed. i slammed on the brakes and my car started to skid since my tires are losing tread (i need to buy new ones). i started sliding back all the way to the right and almost hit another car, but i managed to sort of gain control and stay in my lane. it was so scary. it seriously was a miracle that i didn't hit anyone. i was so fucking mad and still am now. i hope that guy or woman shit their pants and learned their lesson. i was tempted to go back and fucking yell at them, but i just wanted to get where i needed to go, and they were driving like 2 miles an hour.

I don't think anyone ever goes to the right (proper) lane in my town. Once this guy and me where both turning in a 4 lane road and we did an alaman left and crossed over to the other lane mid turn.

When I watched it last (last Halloween?) it really lacked.

That really is tucked way out of sight. When you go back you should look for the grounds keeper and ask if they know about that. There might be records of the worn out stones. The broken cross and the tablet like Last Crusade are cool. I like the one with your reflection in the black marble on the poem one.

That is one of the other things you need to remember when picturing, Charge the battery & upload all photos already on the card so you can blank it or at the very least delete all the extraneous ones.

You liked the Indy tablet too!

Tracking a lost animal is a great idea for that!

Here's what I'd do. Make up some alibi and equip yourself for it. Then equip yourself for the actual adventure; gloves, goggles, camera, water, phone, hammer, screwdriver, knife... what have you. Now before you actually go inside case the joint twice. Once to scout potential entry points and the 2nd to either make one or enlarge a preexisting one. You should be doing this on 2 different days that are at different times and at least 2 days apart from each other. If anyone sees you they'll think you're just curious on the 1st trip, enough escape time on the 2nd, and allow you to quickly sneak in on the 3rd. Take some one with you.

Don't EVER save as jpeg if it's a work in progress. jpeg is the mp3 of pictures. It adds compression every time you resave. The more you save the worse it gets. Use TIFF or some other lossless format. If you're going to upload it save a separate jpeg for just that.

I've never used PNG. No reason, I've just never tried it.

I chose TIFF over BMP because it gave a closer representation of the the colours on my screen to what my last printer gave out.
I don't have that printer any more and the gamma on this monitor is set lower than normal so BMP would do the same lossless job. :D

I had the Theatrical on DVD, then the Ineternational version hit the stores.
It was nice, isolated score and even score for the international scenes.
Leon teaches... Natalie (for got her character name) how to use a gun way more than it showed in the theatrical cut. He takes her on missions and she carries a lunch pale with her and her gun. They go door-to-door breaking-n-killin. At one point he teachers her the "ring trick".
he throws the grenades in the door and keeps the rings
YouTube - ‪Lon - "That's The Ring Trick"‬‏ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LzZhidarXs)

There's also more subplots that suggests a more adult crush natalie portman has for jean reno. it gets "racy" in some scenes.

Im trying to remember the darker ending...i mostly watch it with the isolated score on the receiver/amp (and turn the tv off).

The Director's Cut, not too sure about that one. I've only watched the regular and the LEON The Professional version.

They figured it was too much and wasn't believable enough, so it was dropped.

Works in mine. I used to have that problem with the older WMP. The DM track is from a film soundtrack from a film that never got made. 61 tracks, some only last 20 secs. They released it as an album even though it's kinda different than their usual stuff.

I really watched it for TB's score, I love is atmospheric mood he presents and all those wonder sound elements here and there.

I prefer original more than the remakes.

Just like Rob/White Zombie...

The birds make it all the more creepy. There are two cemeteries in Homecoming. They are both pretty great for different reasons, but I really wish something like this would make its way into one of the games. Whoever mentioned the light streaming through hit it DEAD ON.

I almost want to come up with reasons for why they are secluded. Like, say, Akatsuki-gou? ;)

During my first video attempt, when the batteries went dead, I startled a whole bunch of birds as I was walking by and I was so excited about how neat and creepy it'd sound for the video. Couldn't recreate it. XD But the quieter version works better, really, since it fits how hidden and away from everything that section really is. The path is hard to find too! Took me a while to find it again the first time I went back. I imagine not all that many people go cemetery exploring either, so I like the idea of just a small group of people knowing it's there.

If all the dates were unclear or older than most of the other graves in the cemetery, I'd think that it was a small burial place that pre-dated the rest of the cemetery. But that 1912 tombstone throws everything off. It's the odd one out in a lot of ways, considering the excellent condition it's in compared to how destroyed most of those other stones are.

TDon't do it, Squeenix.

If they do I am making that an image macro.

There are a lot of other cemeteries in walking distance of me- I actually discovered a new one today- but I'm not sure any of them are going to compare to this one. Really glad I spent all that time there, and I'm excited to go back and explore it some more the next nice day I get.

Oh for fucks sake. Nothing can be perfect, NOTHING. They'd better have an option to use the original audio. I can always buy the Japanese version, too.

If they have the original audio as well, then I'm absolutely fine with this. I've no doubt that this new voice acting will be high quality, but the thing is, neither Silent Hill 2 or 3 needed this. The voice acting is pretty terrific. There are a few moments in 1 that are a bit goofy, but on a whole, that's good too. I guess they were looking for some sort of extra, new thing to add to it, but I can't imagine that there was much of a demand for this. I don't remember anyone complaining about the voice acting or the script in these games, or any Silent Hill games. If they wanted to do something extra, they should've added little extra comedy endings like the semi-animated one SM has. HD plus Trophy Support is going to be enough to please most fans all on its own, anyway.

I'm posting this here. Deal. Some are blurry. Double deal.

Aww Shouichi. <3 You're a good guy.

Momo, you're a picky bastard, but you're a good guy too.

I checked my dollar store for those erasers a while back at Tom's suggestion, but I had no luck. There's a set of animal erasers with holes in them that apparently fit over figuarts hands that I've been thinking about ordering for when I have my IXA. Actually, it'd work for a W figure too, even if that moment didn't happen with Xtreme.

I wish they'd fix the friends list. That's my quick way to get to someone's page to post funny perverted stuff on their profile. It's been fucked for ages now.

I tried to watch that about a month ago. Kudos to your friend. It sucked.

I really love House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects. :( I think technically speaking The Devil's Rejects is probably the better film but I think they're best as companion pieces. Just a lot of neat contrasts between the two of them. I especially like how the victims in the first movie are fairly annoying and don't get much development to speak of, compared to all the time spent developing the victims in the hotel in Rejects. Feel like they're Zombie's love letter to slasher films.

Halloween remake sucked too. Just kill the bitches already so they will stop that irritating screaming!

The first half of the Halloween remake is terrific! I feel like it adds a lot to the Halloween mythology and the kid was really well cast. Always weird to see him in other parts. The second half is too close to the original and it's not as effective. Myers doesn't work as well as a looming menace when he has that character development, and it's just not very creepy or atmospheric. I do like the stuff when he's breaking out of the sanitarium.

On the commentary he talks about how he tried to change the character of Laurie because he thought she was too dull and virginal in the original and he wanted her to be more interesting, but she's never all that likable and all the girls are really annoying.

The beginning of the film was mostly good. New stuff. Then it starts to retread the old Carpenter stuff and it turns into bad teen horror torture porn nonsense. It didn't help that I love Carpenter.

Haha, nevermind, your opinions are pretty similar to mine! Definitely don't watch his second Halloween.
