VHS tapes used to be so expensive. I remember when buying an entire anime series would be well over $100. I got all of the Doom Tree Saga from Sailor Moon for like $50 and thought it was a good deal.

it is based loosely on the kinsey scale. i'm not saying i necessarily think it's the most accurate quiz thingie (online quizzes, in general, tend to be bullshit), but my result was pretty much on target. i've pretty much known since i was a teenager that i'm maybe 25-30% homo. masculine guys are generally unattractive to me but i get hot and bothered by petite girly boys, transgenders, and some drag queens

Ads are when I get up and make more coffee/check forums and Facebook/take notes on stuff, that sort of thing. When I watch stuff without ad breaks I generally wind up pausing a few times unless it's something that's a really big deal to me/really amazing, in which case I'd probably try to watch it live anyways. :laugh:

Mad Men doesn't script for ad breaks. When you watch it with them the stops are really jarring. It's kind of interesting but it's much better when you don't watch it live.

Adverts didn't used to be a problem over here. There'd be one in an hour long show, that was tolerable. Then as time went on it became every 20 minutes so there were 2 an hour. Irritating. Then satellite came along and started showing stuff from the States and there are now 3 ad breaks in a 45 minute show. :notgood:

They break after the opening credits of Star Trek. You get the teaser, the credits and then a 5 minute ad break. That's when I flipped the desk and got a box with an HDD. Then I flipped the box too and got rid of it all. I think it's that I got old and cranky and impatient. A 44 minute show stretched to an hour makes me not want to watch it.

Hooray for DVD boxsets... and the internet. ;)

When one of my brothers was little he'd say his favorite TV show was commercials. I think he liked the toys and that "after these messages" song. :laugh:

One of the biggest things that makes a difference to me with a box set is all the intricacies you notice when you watch a show all at once, without big gaps of time in between. Of course, I also pick up on a lot more errors and plot holes.

It's the norm now that most series' have a story arc, even if it's just the secondary story it's still better assimilated that way.

what frustrates me to no end is when networks fuck with regular programming to make room for sports. fox is especially bad about this, particularly during world series and nfl playoffs.

so it might be weeks between new episodes, so if there's a story arc it's been so long you don't even remember what is going on. or they'll play the show after the game, like at 1 am.

So, just as a topic for anyone here, anybody want to speculate on who will (or should) do the Starship Troopers: Invasion soundtrack (Now that it totally doesn't look like a pile of shit staring itself in the mirror).

Personally, for me it depends on the style of the movie. I think, based on his work on Dead Space, Jason Graves would be a good fit. Best pick imo: Michael McCann.

They're airing episode 2 on April 14th too! So we'll still get a new episode then. Man. It was so so good. And my expectations were high.

i like that the show, while obviously designed with a younger audience in mind, doesn't try to condescend to or insult kids' intelligence. it deals with spirituality, religion, duality, philosophy. characters are never black and white, i.e. good or bad, but multi-faceted and complex. too many animated shows lack that level of intelligent storytelling nowadays

Can be excruciating, but the anticipation can also make it better. Commercials never bothered me on tv for some reason but if they go longer than 30 seconds online I get furious and probably won't even watch the video.

I missed the original run initially, but a friend caught it on Nicktoons endless reruns and wouldn't shut up about it. I caught Tales of Ba Sing Se and even though I didn't know anything, I still almost choked up at Iroh's tale.

my family loves it. my kid likes it for the cool animals and the fighting and my wife and i love it for the story. i like the animation style. sort of a blend of anime and western styles. i like how it can be really realistic at times, but also kinda goofy and cartoony for humorous moments

Shouldn't have tried to stuff the whole season in there for starters. Should have just gone to the Mid season finale that all the seasons had. Would have given more breathing room. Could have been a long runner movie franchise like Harry Potter with 6 movies.

That's one of the weirdest things. He went on about how much his daughter loved it because there weren't any characters on TV who looked like her until Katara. Then there's the whole casting debacle.

Really though, I think people would've gotten past the casting if it'd been a good movie, and it wasn't at all.
