Unfortunately I didn't make any of those mixes, it was a group collaboration of 4chan's Comics & Cartoons board. While I've been planing on doing mixes for comics, sci-fi, Robots, pirates, Halloween, Christmas, & a Toonami one it seems that whenever I go hunting for the songs I almost always get beaten to the punch and someone else has made one just as good if not better.

That last car wasn't in line with the others so his timing was thrown off. It's like that 1 level in Mario World in Chocolate Plains with 2 different 2nd halves,1 of them with those angled platforms and go forwards and backwards so you need to almost jump facing away.

They're called "Power Wheels" I don't know if they're available in Canada or UK but you can get these battery powered go carts in the US for over $100. That one is modeled after a John Deere tractor.

Rock and Rule & Captain Invincible are 2 movies I really want to see. I don't think I've ever seen that particular Wind in the Willows movie.

yeah...i like "Community"....."Modern Family" is the other "sitcom" i like at the moment. I don't always get to watch them though. :(

I thought Reznor's first sober album "With Teeth" blew monkey turds. He picked it up again on "Year Zero" and "Ghosts", but lost it again on "The Slip" (or I guess you could say he slipped again :-P).

On the other hand, Marilyn Manson continues to melt his brain with substance and alcohol abuse and he hasn't put out a good album since "Golden Age".....you can actually tell his brain is deteriorating just by the quality of his later lyrics and song titles.

to be honest I don't actually recall what that songs sounds like at the moment.

I'll be fair and say that there are a 3 or 4 that I liked ( I don't remember which ones), but was really bored with the rest of the album. If there ever was a phoned in NIN album, I feel this was it.

With Teeth grew on me, even the pop songs on it I now like but Year Zero I find too claustrophobic and impenetrable. If I put it on it's to hear In This Twilight and Zero Sum, I love those 2 songs. I'm a fanboy but I admit there is some chaff amongst the wheat.

The last Manson album I enjoyed was Mechanical Animals, I think he peaked with that one. :)
I don't have any of his recent stuff so can't comment on it.

They put just enough pathos in that I'm completely annoyed that they spent so much of the album on nonsense. Lyrically, they've decided they're the new Less Than Jake. Hey, let's make every song about running away and leaving town! That's original :rolleyes: Plus, Zero Percent, which is the counterweight to The Only Hope For Me is You, ISN'T ON THE ALBUM. last song is offensively bad, squandering what little good was done.

I know they weren't going to be able to follow Black Parade, but they dangled just enough hope of awesomeness that I'm upset when I originally said I'd be okay with just a "fun" album.

I quite enjoyed Black Parade.

I'd say it's a tie between I Don't Love You/Disenchanted/Famous Last Words. Really and truly one of the best concept albums that I've heard. Don't go starting on this whole Teenagers doesn't fit thing. Easily about regrets of youth and regrets of misanthropy or apathy towards youth. On the other hand, it can be seen as having had a positive effect on youth.

Really? I'm shocked. :shock: That's even more depressing. I thought she was an anomoly, an attractive actress that can really act.

I'm looking at her credits ever since "Silence" and I don't think she's done all that bad for herself:

"Sommersby", a voice-over in an eps of "The X-files", "The Dangerous Lives Of ALter Boys", "Panic Room", "A Very Long Engagement", "Inside Man", "The Brave One" and here's hoping "The Beaver" is a good one and might save Mental Mel's career as well.

Cat and mouse game movie!!!!

That's one of those movies I've talked about with 4 different people on different occasions....we've all only seen it once and wonder if it would be just as good the 2nd time around.

maybe not.

I used to live in Brattleboro Vermont and they did naked bike rides there too. Assumin' this isn't Brattleboro because it doesn't look like it from what I can see. Public nudity is legal there but as far as I can tell people only take advantage of it at events like this.

The movie Sucker Punch is set there which seems weird to me because it's pretty much the ultimate hippie town. Western Massachusetts is where all the mental hospitals are! It'd be neat to see a movie set there with an actual portrayal of the city, though, it's a pretty neat town. They have a radio station that anyone can do shows on if they'd like to, and I always see people selling pot on the streets in broad daylight there, which really amuses me. Also, I had the best random person encounter of all time there. ^^

also also: Inside Man bugged me because the day I saw it I had just finished reading a book about how it's a myth that diamonds have a high resale value.

that Queen video, "These Are The Days Of Our Lives", a classic. Freddie Mercury was so sick during that shoot, they filmed it in black and white, layered on the make-up and weird costumes just to hide it.....yet he still manages to pull off wonderful showmanship.

The triceratops dinobot form transformers was named Slag. For the new cartoon he was renamed "Snarl" to make it easier in the UK. I hear nunchucks are illegal in many parts of europe as well and that's why Michelangelo's chucks got changed to the lame grappling hook in the later seasons. Did we talk about this already?

Didn't care for man show. Juggies all implants and the girly moans where added in, not made by the girls so the whole trampoline bit had no happy for me.

There was a better man show like show on FX, it was started right around the time the channel rebranded itself. Talked about movies, sports, music video games, and other random stuff. They where able to get away with a lot I'll tell ya. They did a bit on art stuff and had a real naked women in the studio to be drawn and she wasn't censored at all. You got full on ass which was quite round and side boob!

Who here's seen Gran Torino? The asians in that movie, the Hmong, well there's a huge community of them in my area. Now they've been here for since after Vietnam so there's about 3 generations; the real old ones, the adults, & the children. Some of them only speak hmong while others can't speak it and have no interest in their own culture. But generally they do keep to there own little groups, when the local churches did a christmas toy drive the girls had no interest in dolls seeing as how they help care for the babies asap so a toy baby makes no sense if you have a real one to play with. They also only took interest in Jasmine and no other disney princess manly because she had black hair and brown eyes just like them. (Mulan isn't part of the princess line, so no no one got them her)

Now that ground work is set I can get to what I was pondering a while back.
When I went to see Shrek there where several hmong families there. Considering how you never hear mention of Little Red Riding Hood past age 5 what are the chances of them knowing why this guy is controlling rats with a flute? Or Who Rumpelstiltskin is? or why the witches melt when water is splashed on them? Do they know that the 3 pigs are meant to be the 3 little pigs or are they just funny pigs to them? Does this all seem like weird random stuff in the same way we saw anime for the first time? I was pondering a while back.
When I went to see Shrek there where several hmong families there. Considering how you never hear mention of Little Red Riding Hood past age 5 what are the chances of them knowing why this guy is controlling rats with a flute? Or Who Rumpelstiltskin is? or why the witches melt when water is splashed on them? Do they know that the 3 pigs are meant to be the 3 little pigs or are they just funny pigs to them? Does this all seem like weird random stuff in the same way we saw anime for the first time? I think you're right that there are some things they're going to be missing out on, but with something fairy tale based like Shrek, I actually think the way certain themes in fairy tales crop up and reappear in tales throughout all sorts of cultures is going to help them out here. Maybe 2 months ago I was doing some short commissioned articles on fairy tales and it is kind of amazing to see how many stories are almost identical at their core. Have you ever heard of the Aarne-Thompson classification system? They basically whittle fairy tales and folk tales down to their most basic themes and seperate them that way. So even if they don't know those character specifically, there might be a different story in their culture that they can connect them too.

I also think that kids...I don't want to say that they don't care that much, I guess it's just easier for them to appreciate stuff than it is for adults. As a kid, I used to watch tv shows or "read" comics in another language and I still enjoyed the hell out of them. It wasn't just that I was missing out on some cultural aspects, which I'm sure I was, but I basically had to piece together the entire plot in my head but I really didn't mind at all. I guess I still do that on occasion now (watchin' anime raws to see what I can understand), but it's not something I wouldn't be at all bothered by like back then. So even though I'm sure there are plenty of things they don't get, I would guess that stuff like that isn't really crossing their minds. Hope they do get exposed to some of it, though, because I think fairy tales are pretty neat, and I think a familiarity with those stories and tropes can really be helpful when reading stuff later on. Biblical stories too!

I think anyone interested in this topic is already aware of the hidden lessons in fairytales (don�t go into the forest or trust strangers� promises etc) that are put there to introduce us to, and attempt to instil within us, the morality our parents want us to develop in a covert manner...

I like to think they also serve as an introduction into the very fundamentals of storytelling. Any writer or wannabe writer I have ever met can appreciate and understand (or mourn) the change from cautionary tale to fairy tale and often know more about Rumplestilskin than the 8 year old next door. I love folk tales and I hope they are still taught by parents to children today, that way the future of literature is safe.

If anyone other than me gives a shit they are releasing Battle Royale as a 3 disc bluray package in a few weeks time. Postcards, comic book, poster, theatrical and Dir cuts and a bonus disc.

I wasn't really worried about them got enjoying or learning stuff so much as wondering if they had about the same experience I did when first seeing a foreign film or not knowing all the anime michanics like nose bleeds, mushroom shaped breaths, finger spirals, that hand parallel to the face when embarrass or apologizing, and so on.

Thing with Shek is it doesn't exactly fallow the fairy tales even when parodying them. The Big Bad Wolf was, for some reason was considered a good guy even before shrek 3 or Robin Hood being french.

I'm with you guys on enjoying stuff even if you don't get any of it. If you don't know what it is your imagination has free reign, add the fact that as a kid everything seems new and different so there's a sense of wonder and exploration. Remember that leather bound Barnes & Nobel Poe book? There's ones for Grimm tales, Hans Christan Anderson, & The Arabian Knights that I also want to get.
