Sorry, I'm having a rough night over in aurora..... Even with 7/20 still happening in my life, I realized that my classmate in college is snakes. He's been a total dick to me since 2007.

Shut the hell up. We all know that you and SnakesInPantaloons are the same person. There is no mistaking it. And we all know you make shit up just so people feel bad for you. And we all know that you still haven't learned anything about making custom edits/DVD rips/what-have-you. And if you can't admit to any of that, any psychiatrist would, without a doubt, tell you you have a frightening case of schizophrenia as well as being a sociopath. Get some help. I'm being sincere.

I remember in that philanthropist Performing Arts & Entertainment program (AILANTHUS Achievement Centre, of CEDAR Foundation) I was enrolled in for two years, they did a performance using the English version of Les Sans Papiers (Asylum) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDh6-cx6fZ8).

:erm: Although, my memory is foggy. I wasn't in that scene. That much I know.
I think it was in another show before or after my time there.

I remember it was much louder and more "epic" in style with a little more percussion.
And when they said "asylum" it had much resonance and depth.

I think they used "Spanish Web" for their scene plus rope for those not playing around on the Spanish Web.
I would ask some former "Ailanthespians" about it, but I'm friends with none of them any longer.
Too much drama from the likes of them.

The Ailanthus (Ailanthus is a genus of trees: The Tree of Heaven) program started out to help kids that are fucked up on drugs, identity, and mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, suicide, etc.
It turned out to be a failure, as the kids were not so competent. They hired only top-class resumes. People who actually worked along side Cirque Du Soliel and graduated Harvard and Yale and all that pompous shit.
The staff and activities proved too much for the deviants they accepted into the program.
"Hellions with a soul", was their goal.
Never has the Tree of Heaven burned so elegantly by the time they closed the program for good.
On stage, they would give miraculous performances.
Off stage, they were hellspawns. Befriending and backstabbing each other constantly. So much drama just talking to one.
They offered "residency" to the most fucked up children. They would be given sanctuary and opportunities to educate themselves with nearly unlimited resources. Their medical and dental was fully covered.
Yet they still pissed away their lives, mocking the very face that sheltered them when no one else gave a bloody damn.
Miscreants. All of them.

Feed them all to the Hellfire!

Tough Love: The Bentalls and Philanthropy (http://anonym.to/?http://www.bcbusinessonline.ca/bcb/top-stories/2008/06/01/tough-love-bentalls-and-philanthropy)

I keep meaning to take screenshots from Return of the King where the White Tree of Gondor is on fire and caption it with Ailanthus motto.
I think they used Stan Lee's/Olympic's Excelsior motto.

Jesus christ the checkpoint system in Chainsaw sucks ass. I went through like 3 sequences/waves/whatever, one of which had a time-wasting teacher zombie. I try to do this mini-game that's just repeatedly pressing buttons, fuck up, that actually kills me and I'm all the way back at the beginning of the level.

She has less moves than Wolverine, to start with. So it's like the same 3 over and over and the one time I've been to the store I didn't have enough to buy any new ones.

The humor is just weird. It's like he's trying to edgy, but it's like.....flat. Saying testicles and fuck doesn't make you edgy, Suda.

I would hit the million dollars button also. I concoct crazy ideas about the things I'd buy if I had a ridiculous amount of cash, but really, I wouldn't know what to do with it. A house and a trip to Japan are the only big purchases I'd want to make.

tbh, the slow motion today is a lot better than 20 years ago.

Today, they have the technology to actually slow things down and retain motion quality.

20 years ago, to slow things down is like slowing down a VHS tape. Frame by ever-so-visible frame.

You can see the blur in the motion from frame to frame.

It needs to be filmed in higher frame rates to capture the all the visual motion and translate it to clean and crisp shots.

If you go to youtube and watch some very amateur video edits, you'll see people slowing down the video.
@24000/1001 fps in slow motion, you'll see the missing data between frames.

It's actually kind of weird when you think about it.

Movies will film a slow motion sequence in extremely high frame rates, well over 1000 fps and higher, and then play it back in standard "FILM" fps. 23.976. Or 24000/1001 if you want to be mathematically correct without doing any rounding up.
That's some serious pulldown right there.

In the old days, they would film in standard film frame rates and slow it down post-pod. Either by doubling the frames or just doing a cheap frame-by-frame slowmo like the old VCR's.

I think they had their artistic appeal. Assassins with Stallone and Banderas did that. The cheap slomo. It worked.
The trick is to make everything look stylistically choppy and get the music and sfx crew to help with that.

Bullet Time was a fantastical technology for filming.
Too bad it proved to expensive to work with.
Also technically very demanding. Such an enclosed area, it only allowed for simple filming without too many stunts.
I think what was done in The Matrix was about the best it can offer.
Car stunts would be too risky and may damage or destroy one of the cameras.
It's not uncommon for cameras to be destroyed.
Christopher Nolan smashed an IMAX camera to smitherines while doing The Dark Knight.
That director shot a camera to death with 50cal. rounds for Battleship.
I think it was 50cal. It was a big-ass turret. People re-assured the bullet-proof glass would shield it something or other.
Nope.

It got overused in the wake of The Matrix but yea, it was a phenomenal leap in capturing the moment.

The Matrix is still the benchmark in my mind.

Lost in Space (1998) simulated Bullet Time. They did okay.
Except that everyone looked entirely CG.
Bullet time does not fake a person with CG.
Bullet Time is real people in real time.
Time being really slowed down. Or sped up. Or viewed from a different angle.
Or all at once.
I think something like that interrogation scene in Hanna would serve its use for Bullet Time.
Granted, there wasn't much action in that scene at all.
It would still serve it use, no matter how lacking in artistic ingenuity.

So many movies tried their best to rip off the bullet graphics from The Matrix in hopes of grabbing audiences.

Charlie's Angels used the ripple effect and used slow motion. And panned the camera around.
But most of that was blatant CG and post-prod work.
You're not fooling anyone McG. :notgood:

I don't think it's really been used so much since The Matrix trilogy... :erm:
They should've sold the patent and made it open-source technology.

Paramount could have put it to better use for Bayformers.
Although Bayformers did improve their slowmo for 3, it could have saved them plenty for 1.
There's so much I don't like about 1
The film grain, the mosquito noise, the frame-rate for some of the scenes.
I don't know if there's a different BD pressing out there or not...
I still haven't really read anything on what bay has to say about it...

It just makes me sick. Some of it looks like VFR without any pulldown or anything.
I should rip it to the PC and do some exclusive editing/repairing.
The frame-rate needs to be fixed.
Somehow. I don't imagine I'll be able to do much, except re-endcode to a frame rate that will also change the playback time of the scenes needed to be fixed.

omg im so tired.

Niters.

Okay, so I redid the first level and had enough to get two moves Wolverine has. Those are nice. A little fun was had.

Then I progressed. This game makes the shit that HOTD: Overkill wisely put into separate mini-games completely separate from the game itself, into parts required to progress.

Annoying shit. Scoring baskets with zombie heads. 100 points. Keeping waves of fire zombies from an explosive cake. This shit is annoying and deserves to be optional.

Got to what I assumed was the beginning of the next area. Fought a guy. Beat his ass. Second phase. Fucking head is yelling at me to destroy the speakers. I did that for like 10 or 15 minutes. Fucking zombie kept jumping around. I have no choice.

I exit out, to see where it'd start me, since there were checkpoints along the way. It's the same stage.....

IT STARTS ME OVER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE STAGE.

tbh, the slow motion today is a lot better than 20 years ago.

High speed cameras for shooting slow motion have been around for a very, very long time. there use in movies was rare, (and expensive,) but not unheard of. Raiders of the Lost Ark, for instance, used one for the 'bad dates' shot. They even credited the camera at the end.

Bullet Time was a fantastical technology for filming.

Lost in Space is Bullet Time. It doesn't look as good because the compositing isn't as good.
From a technical stand point, Bullet Time is less like motion pictures as properly defined and more like the work of Edward Muybridge a hundred and fifty years ago in that they both involved multiple still cameras being triggered in sequence:

Potter puts his invisicloak on and hides quietly in the corner as Snape lingers closer.
He can hear the footsteps moving closer. He can hear a mumbling. No, a humming.

Harry never took Snape to be a joyful person in his own time. Then again, not much of anyone else would either.
As Snape got closer and Harry remained quieter and undetectable, Harry witnessed the most bizzare events he has ever witnessed in Hogwards. And at the rate he's been going at the school, Harry has witnessed a great number of strange and unusual ongoings.
But nothing like this.
Snape began to let out some words here and there, "All around us~"
There was a slight saunter his in stride as the words began to take form.
He had stopped for a mere second to point his wand at an armored display to influence it with his music.
Snape let out a low, rising moan that turned into a slew of jibber jabber, "Oooooh-BUP-bup-bup-bup-bup-bup--bup!"
He danced with the armoured statue for a few moments before prancing along the halls, changing his jibberish incantation to a whistle while randomly tossing out the words "pretty women, all around us".

After Snape had passed, Harry whipped his inivisicloak off and folded it away.
He decided to call his midnight excursion a night, walking off with a sigh of confusion, "Where the Hell am I?"

I've actually been working on plans for doing a David Lynch thing.

One DL movie per month.
I'll do an encode, put it online streaming site (absolutely private no public viewers to cause traffic overload and have a take-down).
And the option to download the video as well.
All links provided.

Figure out a time that works for everyone and we all click start the video at the same time.
Then comment on it afterword.

Skype optional for live-feedback.

Horrible granny, English voices provided by Cuckoo and Sparktank.

Oct/Nov area.
Come Sept, I'll start pushing out questionaires to get a general consensus on the subject matter and introduce it to the tri-fap via Skype with live video where we're all dressed as Swollen Eyeballs members.

Or maybe The Avengers.

Pretty much similar story.

Of the 20 or so novels we were assigned in high school, I think the only ones I read were Stephen King's Christine, Romeo & Juliet and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.

The rest I bullshitted my way through.

I didn't start reading till I got out of high school when it didn't feel so forced upon.

Can't remember a lot of what I read in high school, but I know I bullshitted through lots of it. especially Maupassant and Chateaubriand. I have good memories of Voltaire, Rabelais and Poe, though. Best reading assignment was in the german university I studied in in 2007. Frankenstein, Dracula, Dorian Gray, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Melmoth the Wanderer. 'twas awesome something fierce. especially the report I got to do on the evolution of the Vampire in medias since Dracula.

Feck...it's hot here.

Chik-fil-A gives money to some seriously scary groups (one helped fund the homosexuality death bill in Uganda), so best not to give them any money at all. I know this is pointless for me since there's no Chik-fil-A here and I don't eat chicken anyway, but it keeps popping up everywhere.

I think it was pirated online. Full 1080p rip. Or DVD at least.
I avoided it.

same time low-budget jona hex came out.

Jonah Hex was shit. Solomon Kane is pretty good. Not gonna say it's the best movie possible, but the actors are good, the acting is good, the sets and SFX are ranging from decent to good for a 30millions dollars movie, and the script is relatively faithful to Howard's Kane. in other words, this movie is much better than Conan 3D or even than Conan the destroyer. I'd give it a 3.5/5. Even Badelt's score is surprisingly good, with a strong theme. as for the story...well, there's Kane, a bad guy with demonic powers, and Kane got to kill bad guy's henchmen. pretty much as in the novels. with a little (and a bit unoriginal) twist on Bad guy's identity and nature. all in all, good times. Bought the DVD. watched it after Conan 3D to keep my frail mind from breaking completely.

I have yet to watch a full trailer of it. The movie industry works weird when they do stuff like this.
They'll hold a movie back, there'll be a leak of the movie, there's barely any trailers, there's the soundtrack, and finally a re-release.

11:11 is on that road.
There was an early draft leaked and everyone downloaded it and watched it.
The director found out and said they watched the first draft of the movie.
They weren't exactly ready to release, they went through and did some changes to the movie before actually getting it to select theatres.
I don't know the current status on that movie. I don't think I've seen the actual movie leaked online.
Just the first draft.

Iron Sky is finally hitting theatres. Select theatres.
But it's already been leaked online. I'm not sure which version it is online in AVI/DVD/BD formats.
But since that movie is largely fan-created, I don't see any reason to explore more than one version/viewing
You can tell where the fans created the scenes. The references are absolutely lol-able.

This is the Chik-fil-A closest to me. Hours away, but still. Sometimes I'm very glad I live in New England.

That's great and all, but eating even at that one would still put money in their coffers that they would use for anti-gay crap. Noble intention though I still wouldn't eat there. Guess I'll have to get my criss-cut fries from Carls Jr.

I don't know how to explain it.

Action movies with WWE wrestlers-turned-actors (aside from Dwayne Johnson) mostly have the same poster.
All running away from explosions, holding guns, all looking serious. What's his face...Cena...
It's like they took one picture of him and used stock pictures for the explosions, vehicles, buildings and helicopters for the poster.

That's Cena's only expression:laugh:. He's the poster boy for PG WWE. I'd go as far as calling him the 21st century Hulk Hogan: Limited in ring abilities, lots of talent with the microphone, no acting talent outside of the ring whatsoever. Even Steve Austin has more acting talent.

Hell. Even Bill Goldberg or Paul "Big SHow" Wright have more acting talent.

Funny thing is that the most charismatic WWE wrestlers NEVER tried to do a movie. You'll never find a movie starring Shawn Michaels, nor one starring Mark Calloway (the Undertaker), nor an old one with Randy Savage (and I don't count his cameo in Spiderman as starring in a movie.).

Concerts have no limit to the frequency response between the artists and the audience.
CD, DVD and Vinyl have a maximum to what you can hear: 44.1kHz, 48kHz up to 192kHz sample rate.
Concerts will do well over that since it's not really measured in conventional means.
And the decibel levels are well over the normal volume that is recommended for human-ear-consumption.
It's the same as sticking your ear in a jet engine.
There's no buffer between you and the speakers.

My ears are far too sensitive for concerts.
I don't share the same enthusiasm as others do.

More like muffled bass. Granted, your completely safe from the tinny din of the crowd who must shout at the band, but it really gives it a... lame? experience.

I don't find earplugs practical for sleeping purposes. It will drown out higher frequency registers, which women tend to pick up more than men, but still.
All that muffled bass you get out of it.
All the low to mid tones that get suppressed and just seep through the ear plugs like water soaking through your socks.

I'm quite a good cook, I just don't do it often enough, I guess. I could probably whip up an Auvergnat salad, followed by tagliatelle with a cream and salmon sauce or a boeuf bourguignon or homemade pizzas or Bolognese spaghettis (homemade sauce, of course), a plate of french cheeses and an applepie as dessert.

It would only take me a full day to prepare all that, and I'd probably leave a mess in the kitchen (I'm a good, if messy, cook)

I didn't even see you post that!

Oh! I just remembered.
That first friend who tried various ear plugs (not just for concerts, but work as well), he also tried them sleeping earplugs once.
He agreed that you get all the low-end frequencies that just irritate you.
It's like sitting on the bus and this giant fat man fell asleep and slowly starts to fall on you as time passes by.
And it's warm out. The windows are open but that doesn't make a difference. And he's wearing shorts and a dirty wife-beater.
It was clean by the time he left, but his day started early and his return trip home is when he likes to grab a few winks.
He had a beef donair for lunch. With extra onions.
He wears socks with his sandals that were once dry.
Two jogger's get on the bus and sit right in front of you. Their useless, moist towel just makes sloppy, slapping sounds as they try to dry themselves off.
A splash, built up at the tips of their towels flicks you on the nose. Nearly hitting your eye socket.
One of them is trying to fight off a cold by sweating.
He loves to cough.
A 30-something single woman gets on after having finished walking a dozen dogs who love to play with her in the park.
A water park. So she has the ever-so faint aroma of wet dog.
You have to poop and you only got 3 more blocks to go until it's your stop.

To get off the bus now and look for a washroom, go to page 55.
To stay on the bus and wait until you get home, turn to the next page.

I just don't do it often enough, I guess.

I cook everyday. Well, everyday that I eat. Nothing very exciting but it's not "convenience food" unless you count frozen fish as that.

Earplugs? Whut?

Go see Slayer live. That'll put hair on your pencil.

:erm: I almost did.

I only ever went to two concerts.

I don't know how was with whom....

But...

White Zombie, Ministry, Monster Magnet, Hole, Marilyn Manson... Zero....they did the song for Scorpion in Mortal Kombat. Only the song in the movie was instrumental...

We tried to make plans to go to Slayer.
Nothing came of it

I saw the set-list online a few days before the gig.
The encore was great (in theory), about 6 songs in total from TMIATTTT and Psalm 69 but everything else was all new shit. Shit. Shit. Shit.

:rofldata: Feck, going to the new UltraAVX where you can reserve your seats, get a bigger screen and louder speakers.

:ashine: I nearly jumped in my seat watching The Avengers. When it got to the climatic city battle, I almost shouted "turn it down, noisemakers!!" :ashine:

It got really loud. I think they turned it up for that scene.
The rest of the movie was loud and steady.
But the final scene was pretty loud. The bass suddenly kicked out and the movie became so quiet afterward.

That worries me. If the same thing happens to TDKR, I really don't know if it will be worth it to complain to anyone.
All the kids will just stare at me.
Feck, took nearly half an hour to just get the tickets for the movie earlier today. Two workers focusing on stupid kid with a coupon.
It wasn't until I started talking about the sickening and depravity of todays generations trying to run the world that the girl started dealing with other customers as it got busy.
She dealt with 7 of us to just one guy.
