Bruce has a pretty awesome sense of humor. Very sardonic. Just doesn't show it that often.







I think the humorless attitude is largely part of his Batman persona. Means he's not always fun times when he's hanging out with the Justice League, but Dickbat's in the JLA right now anyways. He always was a lot more relaxed around the JLI so hopefully that'll continue when it makes its comeback.

There's one I remember where a girl was about to get decapitated for not taking the Mark of the Beast as part of a cliffhanger ending~ and in the next movie she'd dyed her hair a totally different color. It was good times. Those Christians like their gore if you can find a way to tie Jesus into it.

There's another series that has Mr. T in it. I don't remember much about those, though, just that the main chick was a brunette and blind. Think I'll go look them up.

I just finished watching a short film made by Merzbow (Masami Akita), he's a Japanese noise artist and he made one of those Seppuku exploitation films. Jebus. It was sick.

When you're drunk (I'm assuming he was) you don't tense up before a fall or something similar the way a sober person would, and as a result you're less likely to get hurt in a situation like that. It's why drunk drivers walk away from accidents so often too.

It's a newer file hosting site and even super old links are often still active but damn do you need to wait in between downloads. 45 minutes at the very least but sometimes it's 2+ hours. Very frustrating when the package is under 80mb and you'l probably just scrap most of it.

I've seen American Graffiti. Biglots had THX 1138 as well as a 3 pack of American Psycho, Requiem for a Dream, & a 3rd thing but THX said it was a special edition and I figured it's like star wars SE with random CG for no good reason.

does it bother anyone how big budget animated films rely more and more on big name actors to do the voices? i just started thinking about this because my 2 year old boy is watching megamind. it stars will ferrell, tina fey, jonah hill and brad pitt, among other well known actors. now, i have nothing against these actors, but i think it's kinda unfair to career voice actors that could have done an equally good (and probably better) job. it seems that hollywood assumes children will somehow want to see these films even more, but i can assure you my son doesn't really care who jack black is; he just loves kung fu panda. i really don't think most parents give two shits about who stars in these films either. i know this is has been a big issue for career voice guys like billy west. if i were a voice actor, i imagine i'd be pissed too if every job i auditioned for went to reese witherspoon or george clooney.

I think Pixar is really good about casting the best voice for the role and not going for big names like they do with most other movies. They still use a lot of screen actors rather than voice actors, but they don't totally limit themselves. I remember Brenden Small auditioned for something Pixar while Home Movies was still on. He didn't get the part but it's cool that they were auditioning people who were relatively unknown.

I think the biggest reason they do go for the big names is that the actors will be invited onto talk shows to promote their movie, garnering them a lot of free advertising. Don't know if that's worth the much larger salary they're undoubtedly paying them, though.

Wish we had a culture where voice actors got more recognition in general, like in Japan. A great voice can make or break a movie or show. This is especially evident in stuff where the voice was recast, like in Phineas and Ferb.

i don't mind certain big name actors because some of them have distinctive voices that are well-suited for animation. robin williams is one exception that jumps to mind. but back in the day there were voice guys like mel blanc that were stars because of their voice talents. looney tunes didn't need cary grant to be successful. ultimately animated series and films (the ones made with kids in mind) are a success because they are well made and and kids want to see them. i assure you that kids aren't going to see shark tale for angelina jolie or renee zellwegger. the parents are taking the kids because their kids beg them to go, not because they saw angelina plugging the movie on some daytime talk show. i didn't even know she was in that film until i saw the credits roll. that's how undistinctive her voice is. now look at the simpsons. a show that is a huge hit largely because of its voice cast, which consisted of mostly unknowns.

While I did love the cast for Megamind and there are several times when the famous cast couldn't be topped like John Goodman & Billy Crystal, or Mike Meyers & Eddy Murphy, or the 4 leads of Emperor's New Groove some actors just aren't good at voice acting. I hear that Astroboy was actually pretty good and loyal to the source material but the cast wasn't all that great with the delivery.
That's probably one other thing, voice actors can go on auto pilot and just do their own thing if the director is shitty or the script is weak. With people who don't do voice overs they probably just do what they're told.

I think it's more that the parents see Angelina on some talk show, realizing the movie is out this weekend, decide to take their kids.

There's definitely a degree of laziness to it too. IE, "hey, this character is a sexy fish, people think Angelina Jolie is sexy, let's just cast her and skip auditioning". I've heard a lot of commentaries that talked about just having lists of various celebrities for roles and going down the list, offering the role to people without even any sort of real auditioning, and I imagine that this is frequently done for animated films as well. Definitely shows when movies are cast that way.

I'd be okay with some kind of mix for movies like this, personally. Studios want their big names and Pixar's in a pretty unique position in terms of having the track record to buck the studio and go with whoever they want.

I thought Princess and the Frog had a pretty great voice cast. Keith David is always brilliant and Bruno Campos needs to do more voice acting. He's perfect for it.

there are certain "crossover" guys that do both live and voice acting quite well. hank azaria is a good example. vincent price is a classic example someone with a recognizable voice AND face. you're right about pixar being good at mixing it up. i do think a seasoned voice actress could do a better sexy fish though.

Best sitcom to grace our television sets in the last 10 years.

I saw Pirates 4 last night.
There was nothing truly wrong with it but there was nothing great about it. Lot a good stuff with unrealized potential.
It was fun and I enjoyed it but was also kinda disappointed.

The best part was the trailer for The Muppets.

Forbidden Planet are selling off the Babylon 5 CD of And the Rock Cried Out, No Hiding Place for 50p so I bagged one. It's very weird. It's like one of those blanks that come in the CDR spindle, except it has the music on half of the disc and the rest is see-through plastic. It's hard to describe it properly. Looks cool, though.

I saw a VERY condensed paperback version of that in the local Mega bookstore the other day.

$28, I think.

It was in plastic wrapping so I couldn't flip through it and wasn't about to spend the money on maybe 20 or 30 pages of it.

Burton got enough of my money this year.

Wish we had a culture where voice actors got more recognition in general, like in Japan. A great voice can make or break a movie or show. This is especially evident in stuff where the voice was recast, like in Phineas and Ferb.

I saw Pirates 4 last night.
There was nothing truly wrong with it but there was nothing great about it. Lot a good stuff with unrealized potential.
It was fun and I enjoyed it but was also kinda disappointed.

The best part was the trailer for The Muppets.

Just read it did gangbusters. It's a little mystifying to me. I've got nothing against the Pirates movies but it's just hard for me to get why they keep on doing as well as they do. Same goes for the Fast and Furious movies, although I kind of hope they keep making tons of money because the titles make me lol something fierce. Is there a way to combine STS and 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS?
