The fact that you think we act like 22 year olds and not 16 year olds make me feel............um...........I'm not sure.
there i go offending people. =) i wasn't saying you all seemed immature. actually this is a pretty intelligent and lively bunch of people. anyway, i find maturity rarely depends on one's age. i was just self-conscious that somehow you guys were a bunch of sexy twenty-somethings and i was afraid you'd be horrified by grandpa lyedecker. i'm just used to 19 year olds saying shit like, "you're 30? whoaaa you're, like, old and stuff."

People tend to think I'm younger but I think that's more because I sound about 8 and dress young-ish than because I am particularly youthful. I feel both much older and much younger than I am. This is probably pretty typical.

I think the download forums actually brought the average age of the forums up. It's not a bad thing in the slightest- I think it's why they're full of so many interesting members, even if most of them won't enter GD. Back in the day when we got floods of new members they were mostly 13-16 year olds with names that involved Cloud, Rikku, or Sephiroth.

I have really good luck with meeting celebs. I've seen Eminem, Kid Rock, Kim Gordon, and Ani DiFranco out and about. Met Donny Osmond when I was younger because I was in the choir of a show he was in. When I was a youngin' I met a bunch of Star Trek actors because my dad would take me to cons.
I've also met a lot of people in bands that would talk to fans after shows. Hugged Milo Aukerman at an ALL pre-show way back in the day and I'm pretty sure my life peaked then.

Not at all! An argument could be made for watching Kuuga before Agito, but I watched Agito before Kuuga was subbed. It's definitely not necessary. My personal recommendation would be to wait till you've seen some series to watch Decade, but a lot of others disagree. Just go with whatever looks cool to you. :)
There's a little more continuity between series in the Showa era, but the series as a whole are very episodic so it wouldn't matter then, either.

I'd say that Hibiki is the most influenced by Japanese mythology by far, though there are definitely elements in some of the other series. Hibiki is a really neat show and it'd be fine to start with, but it's not really typical of Kamen Rider. Still awesome. I love Todoroki and Zanki so much and I'm a sucker for a good mentor/student relationship.
I've even seen people hate on W, which is pretty near perfect in my eyes. So many people hate Akiko that I just straight up expected people not to like her before you and Doc watched it. Haters seriously gonna hate. I think every rider series is awesome and I hope I keep on feeling that way.

IF YOU DON'T THINK THAT'S CUTE I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH YOU
Ankh is from OOO, the currently airing series.
Ryuki is awesome, but Blade.....religious experience. Blade is actually based on a deck of cards, which you've probably read. It's really organized and moves fast as all hell.
First few eps of Ryuki were really bad for me, but they pull their shit together FAST. Don't let the card spam in the first two eps get you down. It's not like that across the series.
Marceline
05-28-2011, 06:01 AM
Ryuki's really more about the battle between the Rider than the cards. It gets awesome once the lotsa riders element starts to kick in. The show's card system never really works for me as a whole (though there are moments I like), but it's not as big a deal as it seems like it might be. It'd be a good show to start with, for sure!
I want to say they do a better job with it than Goseiger, but it's probably just because I like their cards so much better (aesthetically and powers-wise) and they all have individual visors.
Marceline
05-28-2011, 06:06 AM
Ryuki could've completely worked without cards for me, providing they came up with some other way for certain things to be executed. Only thing I'd really miss is watching Imperer use his. I like hearing SWORD VENT-O and FINAL VENT-O though, so it's really no big deal except for when it breaks up the flow of the fights. The cards are indeed nice looking! Aesthetically I think I prefer them over the Decade cards too (which are also nice).

it seems refreshing how none of the series are really connected. otherwise it could get tedious, like how all the star trek series are so connected
---------- Post added at 01:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:28 AM ----------
so all the series take place in parallel universes? it says decade has to jump from world to world.
Sorta kinda. There are some riders that have versions that exist in other rider's worlds. Or however you want to conceptualize crossover stuff.
Marceline
05-28-2011, 06:33 AM
The Decade worlds are more worlds similar to various Kamen Rider series. Some are more similar than others. I just choose to look at them each individually. It's pretty easy to do, outside of Decade and a few movies.

Hisaishi is a difficult one. He is without a doubt one of THE best composers working today.....it's the album presentations that are a bit of a frustration.
He's got so many albums and many of them are of the same score but with too many editions and re-recordings it's difficult to fish out the good editions and not so good.

hehehe that's the problem with some of barry's more obscure scores. many are only available as re-recordings by prague philharmonic, though vinyl bootlegs exist for certain ones like walkabout, even though his original recordings for that one never saw official release.

I'm going to be honest and admit to the world for the first time, I never really got into the Bond series or it's music all that much. :erm:
I'm a Barry enthusiast though.
"The Lion In Winter", "Dances With Wolves", "Out Of Africa", "Zulu" and "Chaplin" being my favorites.
matt damon
05-28-2011, 07:54 AM
yes, that's what i meant
Anaximander
05-28-2011, 08:03 AM
i love his bond scores, but it's not necessarilly his best work. unfortunately, after he died, every single news report on his death only seemed to mention that he did bond music. one or two mentioned dances with wolves and out of africa, but he did so many great scores (over 100); his work on bond (11 films) only comprises a small part of his overall body of work.
even though i probably 1st heard his music in bond, it was dances with wolves that really made me notice him and want to hear more of his music. i get excited when a movie comes on tv and i see Music by John Barry in the credits.
there are still a ton of his scores i haven't listened to yet, so i'm constantly discovering new sides of his music. every time i hear a "new" barry score i realize how versatile he is. critics of barry tend to say his music was all string and horn chords, and while this was a big part of his later style, they probably haven't taken the time to really dive into some of his more diverse/obscure work. often i will listen to a barry score before i've even seen the film. in some cases the only reason i became interested in a particular movie was because i'd read he did the score.
i'm rambling. i could go on for pages about how much i love barry. i'd say he and jerry goldsmith are the two main reasons i love film music so much now.

Yeah it was "Dances With Wolves" for me too.
Every now and then a composer comes along and redefines what a Western should sound like. He did just that.
The 'Two-Socks' theme almost never fails to choke me up.
Then I heard Faith No More do a version of "Midnight Cowboy" and that pretty much sealed the deal. I needed more than just DWW.
Back then (:erm: over 20 years ago :erm:) I think only Elfman, Silvestri and Kamen were in my score collection, so Barry sort of got me to notice more than the fanboy music with it's brassy fanfares.

My old high school principal was fired (from his new school, he left my school after my senior year) for sending porn to his co-workers. Kind of bummed about it. He was a ridiculously good principal. Pretty much all the kids respected him, and that's a huge accomplishment for the high school set.

true, and if you need to scratch an itch in an awkward location, no one will see.
So basically, forums are free if you don't want to post NSFW or illegally obtained things.

This is a good way of putting it. XD
I don't think most free forums have a language censor or stuff like that, but I know they can also delete posts discussing stuff they think is questionable. Just want us to be free to do our thing if I do this. Still hoping I won't have to.
Though I find the idea of a forum whose only thread is STS to be pretty hilarious.

I don't use the download forums either. Mostly I'm just worried about the board being policed by people we don't know at all. If other people wouldn't mind that someone can just throw up a free board to have in case the boards don't come back next time.
As long as it didn't get a huge amount of traffic I think I could get a board going for $5-9 a month plus the cost of a domain name. If it's just a chat board we probably wouldn't get too many people anyways.
Really like this shot for some reason.

i'm also a little nervous about getting music here. in general, i've tried to make a point of only downloading really obscure, out-of-print, or otherwise impossible to obtain music. it's the official big-budget film osts on here that are gonna get this place destroyed. posting hans zimmer and john williams scores and FSM stuff is not a bright idea. i'm honestly pretty shocked at the audacity of some of the posters in the music threads

I'll definitely set up a board if FFShrine goes. I don't know that I'm up for running a big download forum, but I can afford to host a forum where we can have something like STS for sure.
Good news. Better than god. Faptastic.
I'd prefer skyping. I write music with other folks over it for the most part.
Doc won't or can't do it. He's afraid to show his face or something. :p
Perhaps if he wore a Latex Hello Kitty mask.
I prefer to type. I like the anticipation of waiting to find out what stupid thing you're going to insert into your anus next.
I don't have Skype nor a headset for the PC. I have one for the PS3, bought it a year ago but never used it. Haven't found anyone on there I need to talk with yet as I don't play the type of games that need it. I bouhgt it for Resi 5 but then never bought Resi 5. :-P
I'd not afraid to chat, I just prefer to type.

I hadn't seen that. I'm usually against Zep covers because they were perfect first time around.
