What're you guys' thoughts on this whole end of the world thing? I mean, they've predicted a lot of ends to the world (there's a timeline for it; look it up) and then there's that whole thing with Harold Camping. But the Mayans predicted the end of the world thousands of years ago. I think it's just that that date is when they stopped writing out there calendar.
Simple thought ? it's pure bullshit.
two reasons:
A: the Maya calendar doesn't speak of the end of THE world but of the end of A world. basically they just spoke of a big change for their civilization, or for civilizations in general. Just as we, historians, speak of the transition between medieval and modern history: the big shake up was the fall of the byzantine empire AND the discovery of America. the whole apocalypse thing is pure bullshit invented by new age wackos to make the front page on sensasionalist newspapers.
B: Even if the maya calendar was about the end of the world (which is not the case), the calendar translation is sketchy, at best. there is an error margin going between 200 and 500 years, depends on various serious opinions from Maya history specialists. in other words, this thing is like the 2000 bug. it won't happen, but some a-holes will make good money with it.
Heck, if you want to think about it this way...there's a mistake in the gregorian calendar. we shouldn't be in 2012. technically we're in 2018. but some scrib in the middle ages fucked up and wrote the birth of JC 6 years after himself. And I didn't notice any apocalypse in 2006.

I was harsh on the CGI one because I wanted it to be good and it wasn't. I won't complain if someone says I was being a dick. I've had a trying week. Plus it was dubbed. I hate dubs. It had Mary Elizabeth but even she couldn't save it.
I guess it deserves a 1 out of 5 for effort. The contact is good. You know in CGI when someone lifts something it seems like it hovers a few mil from their hand? It overcomes that quite well. The multiple teenage schoolgirl thigh shots were too much. :notgood:

Saw the live action Tekken. Shitty acting (but they DO look like the character they're supposed to play, except for Kazuka who looks more or less like like any japanese thug. SPecial mentions for Eddie Gordo and Bryan Fury (Respectively played by Lateef crowder and Gary Daniels)), decent fights, and highly fapable female characters. Story is completely effed up, also. the only thing surprisingly good is the score, which is rather good. too good for the movie. If you look for a brainless american martial art movie, go for tekken. You won't remember anything of the plot half an hour after the end, but it is decent. not a fuckin' catastrophe like the two street fighter live action movies...

Now I want to write a best fictional cities of all time post. In character, as Jack "I fuck wells" Hawksmoor.
I really miss that, how Fuuto was like a part of the show's cast. I feel like they've tried to do that a little with Amanogawa in Fourze but I just haven't gotten that into it. Maybe I should go back and re-watch.
I always see pieces of Fuuto in other series and I still consider it Fuuto, even if those series came before W.

People can be all hardass and "48 is the real ending, 49 was to appease producers." Blow me. OOO really feels like it suffers from "we couldn't do this because of budget." No other series feels that way to me. Especially not W. Gokaiger might, but.......
They filmed the Eternal movies out of order and they still match up. They CARED about W. They don't care now. Gotta Catch 'Em All marketing is king.

It definitely does feel like there's been a change in the way stuff is marketed, since W. I know perfectly well that toku shows are giant toy commercials, and I'm fine with that, but I feel like it's more to the detriment of the story, lately. That's not to say TOKU IS RUINED FOREVER- I don't even think Fourze is bad, I just haven't gotten into it, and Garo has been great- it's just a frustrating trend, is all.
I totally love the Gobuster designs though, I don't care how much Rob hates them. The sunglasses remind me of Gurren Lagann. Yasuko Kobayashi is writing so I'm sure there will be at least one character I completely love.

Shinkenger writer, Go-onger-esque helmets and goseiger-esque mecha. My heart may say yes, my wallet says no. This is what I told Rob, when he told me who was writing.
As much as I didn't care for it, GataKiriBa needed to be in more often than it was. It's just one example of the overarching problem.
They were NEVER able to effectively get medal usage down. Watching the W movies shows just how fluid Shou and Philip are and there is no reason Ankh and Eiji couldn't have been just as in sync after 50 eps. 48, w/e. This damaged Eiji's competence, even if it did increase somewhat.
Mainly what upsets me is that the one thing I was holding onto was even destroyed. I realize that Ankh wouldn't ever be able to have his way, given the nature of the show, but at every single turn Eiji worked to stymie him. Even, and especially when Ankh wanted to die, Eiji insisted on finding a way to bring him back. I know that's part of the nature of a show that has subsequent movies to think of, but still.
It's different than Philip, and I can't forgive Eiji for always standing in the way. *Shrug* I'm weird. This probably makes no sense to anyone but me.

That's absolutely its biggest failing. OOO could have had absolutely brilliant, fluid fights, and Eiji and Ankh could have had a slightly antagonistic but really engaging relationship, where they worked together has a team while keeping some kind of back and forth banter. And there's so much we never really got a chance to appreciate- certain combos would get their moments in the sun, and would have to be immediately pushed to the site for new medals and combinations. W had it absolutely perfectly, as far as numbers of combos/utility of combos go, and the way they used Gaia Memories still allowed them to introduce a crazyton of them to sell to people who like to be unkind to their wallets.
While I think many of the post-show movies are fantastic, and I'm glad to have them, I have to wonder if that's going to have a negative impact on toku as well. Toku's never been afraid to go where western shows aimed at kids won't go, and I can see where the growing movie market could have a negative impact on this. Even though they both had a post-show movie, I wonder if the Blade Ending or some of the late-game Kabuto stuff would have been able to happen in the current climate. To me, some of these scenes are the best moments in the whole show, and I'd hate to lose that. There's not any reason they can't go the alternate universe route now, but the shows definitely seem to be stepping away from that.

It felt so much like "ShaUTa's medal set is coming out soon, gotta get it used twice." And then they'd blown the budget for it, completely. In W, the usage of everything felt organic. Accel had his gunner for the fight with the large form of Triceratops and it showed up occasionally thereafter. He used the Hard Turbuler to fight the Terror Dragon and they never had to show him using the other attachments, even though you could with the toys.
The Claw set usage was abysmal. That should have been used near the end like the Turbuler, so it'd make sense. Not in the 40th Ann'y episodes for little reason.
Plus, how much did they spend on that flying geometric shape? Seriously. You couldn't give Uva a great one-on-one fight? You have him slashed to shit by TaToBa? And you destroy all the medals when you have post movies......
I hate that final episode. Absolutely HATE it. PuToTyra medals in the TaJa Spinner is a sentai-level team-up movie kind of gimmick. Saving CJGX for movies was fine because CJX was used effectively in service of the STORY. The last episode needed Super TaToBa if they weren't going to have a decent fight between Uva and TaJaDor and PuToTyra. Either would have been fine. Hell, both. If you're going to be that fixated on that combo, upgrade it. Jeez.

Now I'm going through it again and cataloging what is when and going though commercials from 99-00......... It's almost like watching commercials from the 80's ; ;

A lot of Moltar DBZ bumps so far. Some toy, Chuck E. Cheese, food commercials...... Cartoon Cartoon Friday commercials.... Only on the first disc so far... Got another 1 hour and 15 minutes to go through on another 2 discs. I think it's some good stuff but the audio is in need of help....

Blind taste tests show it doesn't make a difference overall. Americans also preferred corn syrup despite what they may have said. Syrup is cheaper so win-win I say.
Anyone who says they prefer sugar is deluding themselves into thinking they are a connoisseur. Coke is not wine.

Yeah, we really have almost every interest covered here. I even got makeup tips (and I found a tutorial for that hairstyle).

i used to be die hard joel fan and hated mike when he first took over but some of my favorite eps are from the mike era...especially when the show was on sci-fi channel
ultimately it comes down to favorite episodes for me
i guess i slightly prefer joel as far as personality

You know that reminded my of something I was pondering a while ago. When a TV show has a story that takes more than 1 allotted episode to finish everyone tends to call that a 2 part episode or however many episodes it takes to finish the story. But isn't one episode the 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or hour time slot the show has? So wouldn't we be calling the longer story arcs 3 episode stories instead of 3 part episodes? I know there is some wiggle room with this like those few episodes of Tenchi Muyo that all of a sudden went on for almost an hour that was 1 whole episode but not a multi parter.

I think he's maybe talking about situations where the show just runs longer than its normal time? Two hour finales, things like that. I think most two/three parters tend to be cliffhangers, though.
