Really, there are a lot of movies I like that could be classified as romantic comedies. Say Anything is one of my all-time favorites. Most current rom-coms are just awful and everyone is so unlikable. And they're predictable, but I think the people who really like rom-coms like that. I get that, I have fun with super predictable horror movies.

I'm also much more curmudgeonly about romantic matters than I used to be, but I can still get swoony over well done stuff. I just don't like romance to be the focus, unless John Cusack is involved. Though Must Love Dogs was pretty bad.

They should've renamed it, like with Mean Girls. It would still be a terrible movie, but it'd less obviously be based off a parenting book.
The only reason it has the book title is to try and get people who've read the one to watch the other. Renaming it would be more honest, but miss the point. See "Under the Tuscon Sun," which is based off a (man's) travelogue.

i can tolerate the sabrina remake and love actually in small doses
You have to see the original Sabrina. It's really good, even if it is almost impossible to believe in Humphrey Bogart as a romantic lead. (Totally worth it for Audrey Hepburn.)

And it's Billy Wilder, so, you know, it's going to be good.

And they're predictable, but I think the people who really like rom-coms like that.

Let's do a movie where it follows the romantic comedy formula to the T. It's light, it's charming! PG all the way. Until...the lowest point hits. They end up angry at one another over something silly and wouldn't you know it, THEY SPLIT APART. OH NO IT'S SUDDENLY RAINING! Rather than fight to get the girl/boy back, they fight for revenge. The movie is now a hard fucking R. The end sequence is 30 minutes of the two leads beating the shit out of each other. Their chaotic battle leads them both over a balcony and they fall to their deaths.

Credits.

I like or love all of these! I actually used to be a little bit obsessed with As Good As It Gets. That movie is ridiculously quotable. Good times, noodle salad.

I really like comedies that aren't afraid to go to dark, depressing places. Feel like that's true of a lot of these. And there's plenty of dark and depressing when romance is involved~ Romantic comedies should be more awesome than they are.

Kinda. The Story is that much, if not most of the movie was actually directed by Spielberg. (Which is why it feels more like one of his movies than one of Hooper's.) So you could argue, that if Twilight Zone makes it in because Spielberg directed part of it, than you could give it to him for Poltergeist as well.

Kinda. The Story is that much, if not most of the movie was actually directed by Spielberg. (Which is why it feels more like one of his movies than one of Hooper's.) So you could argue, that if Twilight Zone makes it in because Spielberg directed part of it, than you could give it to him for Poltergeist as well.

okay, i'd accept that. i'd always wondered how a goldsmith/spielberg collaboration would work in an alternate reality. i'm sure goldsmith had to have been on spielberg's short list of possible composers when he made sugarland express.

something i hate to think about, yet can't help wondering...

williams is quite a bit older than spielberg. he will likely retire/die first (god forbid either).

what composer will spielberg use?

my guess would be shore or giacchino. i can't see him using someone like zimmer.

Shore does Cronenberg, Scorsese and Fincher.

As flawed as it is, I like it and accept it as the new Trek.

These days, the cool thing to do with reboots is make it darker and more serious.

Abrams didn't do that and kept the humor and fun that all the older Treks had.

the fact that abrams has said on multiple occasions that he was never a big trek fan, and that he basically wants to make it more like star wars, really seems disrespectful and also shortsighted on paramount's part.

they don't give two shits about trying to repair the franchise and restore it to the glory of the roddenberry days. let's make a fast buck by making a big dumb popcorn adventure with no underlying message whatsoever.

fuck.

even trek V, as godawful as it was, had some basic themes running through the story.

trek films have always been a little more low brow, shootey uppey explosioney than the shows, but they usually had some sort of meaningful themes...i didn't see that in abrams' trek.

Mega Man Powered Up (2006)

Genre: Platformer | Players: 1 | Developer: Capcom

Mega Man Powered Up does exactly what any good remake should. It graphically updates the original game AND reimagines it. In the Old Style mode, the game is as difficult as it ever was, while tweaking the few small problems it had and fixing several instances of brokeness that were actually in your favor. In the New Style mode, the game is fleshed out with the addition of two new robot masters (bringing the total up to the standard 8), a collection system, a level editor, and the ability to play as the robot masters if you are able to beat them on Hard, buster only.

Time Man and Oil Man debut here to mostly great effect. Time Man is able to slow time (a fitting precursor to the ability to stop time completely later in the series) and Oil Man stylishly surfs on puddles of oil to cut through Mega Man and other enemies. Using the robot masters unique abilities and Mega Mans unlockable slide and charge shot, you can collect item packs to use in the level editor. Even if you have no Little Big Planet-esque inclination to create levels and share them over PSN (like me), collecting these packs still stands as an enjoyable MetroidVania challenge worth tackling.

Playing as the robot masters for the very most part is an absolute blast, as they have enhanced abilities in addition to the ones they bestow on Mega Man. The only irksome member of the team is Oil Man, as he can only fire one shot of oil at a time. If you consistently hit enemies you can fire in rapid sucession. If not, you have to jump on the drop and slide on it, or wait for it to disappear before you can attack again. Im all for challenge, but this feels like complete neutering if you arent a crack shot. Im not one to deduct in any major way for elements of a game that are purely bonus-like in nature, however, and Powered Up goes out of its way to take all the right steps, otherwise.

Whats that? Theres an elephant in the room? Look, if you honestly have a problem with the cutesy, chibi-fied personalities given to all the characters, so be it. Just know that you are missing out on a fantastic game over a trivial aversion.

Buyers Guide: Unfortunately this is a PSP exclusive. However, as it is available packaged with its fellow, stellar remake Maverick Hunter X, Mega Man fans who enjoy both series should snap it up as Powered Up has a staggering amount of replayability and even more unlockables than mentioned here.

4.5 Shut up, Rolls out of 5

I kind of like how they got a non-fan to rework the world.

It made it something completely different.

I agree it can be considered disrespectful of Roddenberry's original vision.

We'll never know what he thought.

I don't think Abrams ever considered making it anything like the series.

In fact he blew that out the window right off the bat.

Beastie Boys and very thinly disguised metaphor of tossing a '60's era car off a cliff.

It had more balls than brains. I agree.

I've never tried anything like getting 100% accuracy. I do dumb shit that only takes time, not skill. Cuz shit gamer. Handcannon only runs are oldhat to me because that's just how I play 4 and 5.

I had infinite ammo for most of the guns in 5 before I deleted that save. I've only got it for my main arsenal, now, iirc. I'd tell you what they are, but fuck if I remember the numbers and letters. The glock, the black semi-auto rifile, the Hydra, and you know what.

How to %100 in RE4. Kill the first enemy in each chapter with 1 shot to the head. Use either sniper rifles or magnums. Then kill everybody else with the rocket launcher. Rocket accuracy is tallied differently than the other guns so the game feels that you only fired 1 shot and got 1 kill.

---------- Post added at 12:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:27 AM ----------

Credits.

Or like the first trailer for the Muppets where it looks like a super bland chick flick and have it be that for half of it then suddenly Muppets everywhere without warning!

I do recall hearing something similar to this. Not sure if it was the rocket launcher, but it did involve hitting one enemy dead-on.

Tobe Hooper, although he hinted more than once that Spielberg had been much more than a producer (in other words, he often took directing decisions, and probably even shooted or re-shooted a good portion of the flick). which meant that Hooper was a name to put on the poster so that horror fans would be drawn in, as Spielberg didn't want any more horror flicks in his film resume. Especially one as weird as Poltergeist.

If he wanted a good resume...he wouldn't have produced all 3 transformers :notgood:

this whole thing in general about redoing original series era really bothers me.

if i were the producer, i'd do something in a new era, like the NEXT NEXT generation, maybe..

Bringing back Khan doesn't really bother me. let's face it, when the movie "Wrath of Khan" aired, not that many people had seen the episode involvng Khan, the Botany Bay, etc, etc. Lots of people didn't know who the fuck Khan was, hence why Khan more or less summarize the original ep in one his first scenes. then explain when it went all to hell.

where there are problem:

1: Finding a good actor for Khan. that's gonna give Abrams and his buddies headaches. Ricardo Montalban was awesome in the role, and I have troubles seeing Chris Pine pulling that "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN" scream as well as the Shat.
2: The plot: Unless they redo that genesis device thingy, which would mean a 3rd movie. being more unoriginal would be quite impossible. I'd like to see another kind of plot, maybe Khan escaping from that death planet and seizing the means to recreate more augments, or take a space station hostage, or anything. but not the genesis device all over again. please. :puppydog:
3: The score. Either Giacchino is going to outdo himself, otherwise he'll have to top what Horner did for ST2TWOK, and it's pretty hard. for the record, this is the ONLY CD I've ever bought from FSM, before I had the mean to order them through internet.
4: Did I mention Ricardo Montalban ?

If he wanted a good resume...he wouldn't have produced seaquest DSV :rofldata:

4: Did I mention Ricardo Montalban ?

as much as i bitch about abramsverse trek, chris pine is one of the better things about it. he doesn't try to do a caricature of shatner, which would be just silly, yet i think he captures the character's essence anyway. so i can't see him screaming KHAAAN!

i LOVE montalban and could never imagine another actor playing khan. but then i said that about jack nicholson and then heath ledger came along and topped nicholson, imo.

funny, speaking of bats, i remember reading somewhere how abrams said he was modeling the trek series after nolan's batman trilogy. which sorta makes sense, considering trek '09 felt like a origins film, and it looks like they're trying to model the next trek after the dark knight by bringing back one of the most popular and iconic villains in the franchise

The problem is not in it being unoriginal. People do remakes and reimaginations and regurgitations all the time. Sometimes better than the original. Although Wrath of Khan is generally considered the best of the Trek movies, so it's inviting itself to all sorts of comparisons that means it can't merely be okay, it has to be great.
The problem is not that not enough people have seen "Space Seed." A good revenge story does not need to see the offending act to be powerful.
The big problem is "Wrath of Khan." The whole point of the story is that Khan has been stewing for revenge against Kirk for 20 years. Except now they've never met. Even if they did a condensed version of "Space Seed" that goes straight into the Wrath, he hasn't had enough time to stew to make Khan so obsessive. (You know, so obsessive that when he has the chance to make a clean getaway, he ignores his own crew's advice and charges to his doom. That's obsessive.)
Part of the reason why they've waited so long to make this film is that no one could figure out how to do the story without being resoundingly stupid. I don't know that they've fixed it, and Abrams won't consider doing anything else. So Paramount's keeping their fingers crossed.

You know....
HACK!!!

The big problem is "Wrath of Khan."

It's called The Rise Of Khan.

No wrath yet.

He's merely being introduced.

I think the Klingons are supposed to be the main antagonists in the next film.

My guess is Kirk is going to have to make some sort of sacrifice while battling the Klingons that will make Khan hate him by the end......and the rest is history.....or future.....:erm:....

seaquest dsv has a troubled history.

indeed, the 1st season was pretty good, particularly in the second half, so i wouldn't worry about nostalgia glasses. it's worth a rewatch.

thing is, they weren't sure if they'd be cancelled, so they treated season 1 finale as a sort of series finale. many of the cast were either fired or quit. nbc began meddling more when it was renewed for a second. they wanted the cast to be younger, sexier, and appeal more to the "mtv" generation. also, in the secod season, the show had more of a "monster of the week" feel, with most episodes involving some sort of monster to battle. roy scheider became disgruntled and tried to leave, but couldn't get out of his contract. he was able to partially get out by season 3, yet was still obligated to make multiple "special guest" appearances. by season 3, the show is on life support. at this point, the producers try to model the show more on babylon 5 or deep space 9...horrible (not that there is anything wrong with those shows, but it doesn't work so well for seaquest). michael ironside is about the only good thing about season 3, as by that point most of the original cast had left.

it's a shame, because the show started out pretty strong. it's a bit hit or miss in season 1, but then so are a lot of shows (i.e. the beardless next generation). had they kept the cast and format, i'm sure it would've gotten better rather than worse

Ick. Diet Coke is nasty enough as it is. Now it would taste like grody wood.
Last time I made Jello shots I used some online recipe that used orange peels as the container. If you cut it right, there was room for a different shot in each little compartment making a rainbow type dispenser thing. It was pretty bomb. I only got a few because everyone loved it.

Just got in from some shopping, hooray. My transaction was apparently the one to break the self checkout and the employees swarmed in. They had to individually manhandle my card and interrogate me about the situation. Receipts and change started spitting out of the machine eventually and they just let me go. Transaction went through despite all of that. I just didn't get a receipt. I hope they'll dispose of it properly if it ends up getting spat out sometime later. Turns out the story isn't very interesting at all. The end.

Going in the fall. It's way too damn hot, right now, and will only get hotter the next couple months. Not ideal for the spirit of the trip.

Bring a walking stick, wear a really good mask. Like one of those rubber ones with good filters to help keep smoke and fumes out.

The walking stick is to help test the ground for any soft spots. You don't want to fall in :erm: any spot can give away at any minute and you'll be making your Silent Hill.

The mask is not only protective for your longs and long-term health concerns but would also look really cool.

The place my tv is now made for a mess of wires. I don't like it, but I don't have to. The other half of the room is going to be cleared.

I was going to watch SH tonight. But i've already got a whole bunch of youtubes lined up.

Started out earlier on those worms in the sewers. Proceeded to lion attacks, bears and trainers, happy wolves (so kewt :ashine), giant fish, exploding creature...

you know, youtube~

Oh, you did add the map :D

Is it real? It's so..... so...... similar to the in-game maps (in style).

Yep! Was pretty excited to look over it.

It's on Wiki. Someone actually made the map and plotted out significant things about the town.
Almost wanted to shop it to have some crinkly edges and age tears in it. some sepia/yellow stains.
 scribble words, lines and a little stickman figure of P. head

If you do that, I'll get it printed at Kinkos. Twice. Once to take with me, and once to frame.
