I've not seen it so I don't know but it seems odd to me that Clara would need reassurance. Isn't she the companion who's already met 12 previous Doctors & traveled the length of his personal time stream & back again. You'd think she'd cope with regeneration better than anyone.

In a sensible world this would be true.

But this is DW. :D

I may be in the minority, but as I have been (since the end of 11th's run) going back to watch every D0CT0R from pilot to present (nearly through 4's run now) I found that even though I thoroughly enjoyed the stories before W3B PLAN3T, it wasn't until the "freeform-expressive-dance" moth-people and all-around bizarre-ness of W3B PLAN3T that the show started to get weird enough for me to really dig in.

my point exactly. Clara apart from Romana would be the one most intimate with the changes and she is the only companion apart the the Brig that meet multiple version of the medic before a regeneration...

paranoid 1
07-14-2014, 03:58 AM
You're right. Clara should on some level be the most prepared companion for regeneration. But her arc isn't about Clara. It's about the audience. Like when he introduced Eleven, Moffatt is being cautious, probably too cautious. The Doctor has been a young man since Tennent popped up at the end of 2005. He's hedging his bets. Making doubly sure. Crossing his Ts. I don't think its necessary, but I'd over caution than the reverse. I think Moffat did a fairly good job with grounding it in character (the hints of her fancying Eleven, even the control freak element), but its still a patch job.

You and everyone else! I don't think it's really out there yet.

The original poster even post a comment that it was a fake. Not sure if it was really him, or if someone faked that. But despite supposedly having as many as 9 seeders on a time there, no one else seems to have gotten past 0.2% for over three days now. Even with a VERY slow seeder, someone would have gotten more of it from that person and then would have passed it on. (That's how those things work.) And now there aren't any seeders.

thanks. a bit confused by the request. but thanks just the same. this is a most confusing site.

As a few people have mentioned, there were a lot of takedowns a while ago so filenames started getting put up in code and actual links started getting hidden. It can be confusing at first, but you start to get the hang of things eventually.

Most links tend to only stay active for a couple of days, and any posts that have 'RWQ' in them contain a link. Just press the 'Reply With Quote' button and there will be a link hidden in the code; just copy and paste this into your browser and bob's your uncle.

If you want to request anything, please try to obscure what you are asking for (but not too much - we have to be able to tell what you want). The simplest way is to put an extra character between each letter of your request.

Oh, and welcome to the madhouse :)

Here's a crazy request. Does anyone, by any chance, have the Authors' Graphic Novels that were on the official Medic site until a few years ago? You know, the comics that were created with a program that used images from the animated Medic story "The Limitless Adventure", but were made by people who write for the TV show? Stories like M a d M a r t h a and Whom Devoured All the Cookies? It might be a stretch, but it's entirely possible that someone grabbed a copy of them before they became unavailable.

I must be one of the few people that doesn't see the Kilmer versions as being utterly terrible - they're just utterly updated versions (at the time time) of the OTT camp-ness of the '60s West version.

But most underrated performance? Keaton.

Taken purely on how Keaton and Bale *perform* their roles as both Wayne and Batman, I'd say Keaton wins hands down.

Tim Burton thought he was doing the third movie... But he got called up to the water tower on the Warner Brothers lot (this is not a joke.) and they asked Tim if he understood that Danny Divito spewing black bile had invented an unsellable line of MacDonalds Happy Meal toys far too disturbing for 4 year olds?

Strangely, enough I always thought medic 6th was the darkest doctor well at the start anyways. I say strangely because his attire was anything but dark. Although having just watched and listened to rael tmie I found certain aspects of his character and indeed the plot dark , with certain deaths very dark indeed.

With a couple exceptions, the medic arrives some place clueless, muddles about, and then just pulls something out of his ass, unless we are talking about Seven.

Seven knows where he is going, where he has landed, and he has a plan and has booby trapped the shit out any local usually a hundred years before he arrives and the fix is on.

Does it really make a difference if Capaldoc is darker than this Doc or not as dark as that Doc? Hopefully he's just gonna put his spin on things like other actors before him. Personally I'd like to see him played similarly to CE or JH.

It's also confusing that that's how everyone's describing him when considering that people have compared him to the 3rd Medic, as well of the glimpses in the teaser trailer. I even broke down and read bits of the script toy try and get a bead on the new Medic, and I got the impression of a serious minded mature adult. Not anything that would be perceived as dark.

I doubt it'll really end up being full-on nuBSG-Grim-Dark, probably more that the few Serious Bits will be more like Grumpy Ecclescake rather than Puppy Dog Tennant. And it should be remembered that the series isn't going to want to let any of the younger watchers go, so there will probably still be as many daft run-around bits.

Based on purely reading/watching the first one, I think I'd lean towards him being a bit more Serious Mode 4th-like but with a layer of uncertainty about him.

But, tbh, it's really too soon to properly label him in anyway. Give him a few episodes first.

Something about the copy floating around ... I'll spoiler it for those that don't want to know, but you might, Jim.

It's a workprint, so this *may* change before transmission, but what is noticeable is that music isn't do the usual thing of DEMANDING that you feel things and doesn't have that annoying "Ha-ha! The docs got an idea!!!" thing just before the Doc tells us how he's going to get out of the current mess.

The lack of this certainly gives a different feel to the whole thing. It doesn't feel as frantic.

I do think that they are tending to hint at things going "darker" and more ominous for the new medic.
All the various teasers are dripping in shadowed chiaroscuro and menacing flashes of explosive sparks.
As for the medic himself, his soundbites are all calling into question how "good" he is and whether you "know who he is anymore".

If you recall in the NAME of the MEDIC, M0ff has the $UPR3M3 !N+3LLIG3NCE riffing off the list of other names by which the medic is known; all of dark intent and blood-soaked hands (V@L3Y@RD) all the while KNOWING that the NEW medic would soon be here...
He's been "dark" before.

4 had some moments (but they were more dark moods than anything untoward)
6 and 7 were supposedly pretty dark at times (6 more manic and crazy, 7 had dark, manipulative leanings. - Aside from some specials, I haven't got to them yet in my viewing)
8 had some severe darkness (in the audio stories)
WAR ('nuff said)
9 was dark and angry (when he wasn't light and goofy, but was the light, goofiness a mask to cover the dark, hurt angry nature...)
10 grew darker as he went along, until just before the end. But even his "You get ONE chance" edict was severe.
11, like 4 had dark bouts of melancholy and a few times when he wanted to go off the rails.

But it seems that the teases are leaning towards 12 fulfilling the V@L3Y@RD prophesy, or at least going close to it before backing away; "A 'good' man".

Yes, I watched the leaked stuff... how could I not?
And yes, I know it's only a rough and things may change betwixt now and final release.

THAT SAID... I really liked it and it only makes me salivate more so for the official day of airing.

The only thing that is distracting to me is that he actually resembles a much older RORY. lol

You're not the first to recommend this movie to me. My friend Rick -who is also an ardent fan of LC, as well as of the 8th Medic- recently recommended it to me because he knows I have an almost guilty fondness for movies that have that kind of audacious and ambitious slant to them. I took him up on it and wasn't disappointed. It was a really fun "turn-off-your-brain-and-enjoy-it" kinda movie.

Last time I looked into the return of Heroes, maybe a month ago, it seemed like the network said it wanted Heroes back but none of the principle cast wanted to return. This just means a new cast, not an abandonment of the project.

Cheaper actors = More spfx?

If Zachery Quinto signed up, all they could afford then after he walked away with his cheque, would be a one man show inside a black room with no curtains filmed with a cellphone.

My input on these from the PoV from someone who has been there, watched that, read it too.

4 - The only REALLY "dark" story featuring #4 was the Genesis of the Pepperpots. He had some scary monsters to fight, but really they were just shock value stuff, plus his boogly eyes.
6 - mmmm, I don't really see him as having any really dark stories other than what happens to Ms.P. In the LC audios he has some CRAZILY dark stories though.
7 - As soon as Ace gets together with him, he instantly turns into the brooding Master Planner. I didn't really notice it at the time, but hving listened to the lC audios and then revisited all the Medics last year it is very clear that he has some Big Plans.
8 - Zagreus and the fallout getting him back into the actual universe are this Medics only real claim to being dark... until the DE stories.
9 - Reclusive and full of himself as a means of keeping others a way from him following the war. His stories themselves were not really dark, it was just him playing it like that. The exception being "Pepperpot"
10 -Never really surpassed #3 in how dark his stories were. After so many "This is me, I do it like this and I dont take excuses." style stories, it all becomes sort of goofy.
11 - 11 had some nice dark things going on. I think the darkest of which we haven't even seen (the fate of his current companion). A lot of it was, sadly, Moff and the Beeb building up media hype for what ended up being mostly insignificant plot elements. (The name of the Medic....River Songs entire life)

A while back 7 admitted, during those black and white trdis stories, that he had some warning that the next version of himself, was going to be a bit of a soft cock, and that steps had to be taken to babyproof the universe before he next regenerated.

Not to my knowledge, but I imagine so. All of the other yearly "Past Medic" hardbacks have had audio releases, and the new Capaldoc novels are being released on audio by the company that bought the licence. TBH I wish it wasn't coming out at all. It means we have to wait another year for a new full length PM novel, and I've lost nearly all interest in the Clock Skirmish after the introduction of the War Medic, purely due to what he does to continuity and the fact that it was done so the Grand Moff could write the "End of Cycle" story himself.

Just because some people on the net think that Moff or any other producer/writer did something for a particular reason doesn't mean he actually did. We don't actually know their reasons or motivations until they actually tell us so.

Moff's publicly said that the role that eventually became the War Medic was originally supposed to go to Eccles, if he'd agreed. Since he didn't, he had to come up with a new way to use the storyline he was working on. So, obviously, the original intention of the character was NOT to allow the End of Cycle story, since Eccles wouldn't have made that possible. I suspect that it was only once he realized he'd need to insert a new Medic to his story that he realized he'd have the opportunity to write the whole End of Cycle thing during the 50th anniversary year.

Thanks for the insight.
Although, with only some minor points, it seems we agree on much of it.
Still, I don't particularly see # 3 as being dark at all, but #10 as being a slippery slope of "going dark" (kinda like being lured to the "dark side of the force" so to speak, with anger and pride taking him down the wrong path). Sure, #3 had anger and pride issues, but his were more petulant outbursts (railing against his imprisonment) than anything menacing.
Just my impression.

Does anyone happen to have any retail versions of the Medic's New Series Adventures (9th/10th/11th) ebooks (ePubs or mobi)? I've only been able to find a handful online that aren't pretty poorly formatted OCR scans (which I can share if anyone is after them). Many thanks!

Hello,

I have a question....
I realize the the preair screener is out for the first episode of the new season but I recently received an issue of Entertainment Weekly and in the magazine it had mentioned that the first series episode 1 had a similar issue happened with rose....

Does anyone have it? If so, would someone be able to post it or PM me?
I am curious to see it

Thank you for your help!

I am trying to rebuild from a hard drive failure and discovered I am missing a chunk of the Doctor Who Magazines and Special Editions, is there anyone who would be able to provide an assist? I am missing the following:

Doctor Who Magazine: Issue 264, and 431-473
Special Editions: 11, 12, 14-18, and anything after issue 20.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated even if it is just suggested search spots.

Its identical to what was broadcast, minus the Norton sound screw up! - If you want to know what watching it was like, put your DVD on and stick a stocking over your head to lower the visual quality, pretend its 2005, and relish in the fact that you are watching it a few weeks early like most of us netnerds did!

Nope sorry, just the completed episode as broadcast, which to be fair, when I watched it with a fellow fan, we looked at each other and said "why is the Doctor acting like a retard?" -Hey it was 2005, we were less PC back then! - we watched bits again and assumed he had just regenerated, going on about his ears and such.
However that was at odds when his "Run" entrance, as he seemed to have his senses there! I was very disappointed with it!
Didn't like the next ep much either - its was "the unquiet dead" that made me feel like my show was back!
To this day, I don't rate Ecclescake as the Doctor much - I know others do, and everyone is different and I respect that, but he was for my personal tastes, not who I would have picked for the roll, however, I have to hand it to him, the masses took to him and he brought the show back and made it bigger than it ever has been.... so it seems I know nothing! lol

Interesting choices. I'd like to hear Vile Sin, though. That's one of my favourite Medic books. However, even after many readings, I'm still not sure about everything that's happening. I suppose the convoluted nature could be a put-off.

Those are some interesting choices for audio adaptions, especially as the NA they've selected is the one originally written by New Medic's previous head writer/producer. I wonder who they'll get to play the Medic's assistants in that one?

Didn't a time-defracted copy of Kwedge, originally from the Coalition Contradiction range, appear in a Benie audio? Maybe they're bring the actor who played him in?

Why bother asking for a script of #188? It's not like anyone will even bother to read a script I write. Even if I do my homework and try and model it after a pre-existing BFDW script. Even if it's just a half-hour and I work on it all my life, it will never be good enough. And even if it was - I still don't know the right people, AND I live in the states. So I'm not even going to bother dreaming of having a single line in even an audio, much less seeing my name on a cover. Even though being from Detroit, having spent time in California, and growing up in TEXAS - I have mastered many authentic American dialects - They'll still always hire Brits, even if their accents are as horrendous as an "American British accent". So there's no chance I'll even end up in the credits one day. Still, if there are scripts for 188, I guess I'd like one. Just so i can torture myself, with a pathetic unreachable fantasy. I'm not even gonna bother trying to fix any run-on sentences or punctuation errors in this post.

They may not be cheaper to make but they are certainly quicker to make if they have a different production team on each of the stories.

How do I find out what happened to Mel after she left with a man who sold his last crew into slavery... Or was it for parts?

I would love it if she's in a slave bikini, chained to a wall, there's an explosion as a wall blows out, and the brave man that came to rescue her from this hell because he loves her is Davros.

Yes, I was reading some of the SH0RT TR!PS anthologies and she is said to be trying to acclimate to life back on Earth.
(Was first going to stop home to take care of an ill relative or something.)
Sorry. Memory is fuzzy, as it was several books ago and a short account of her status (she met a mutual friend of the medic in a cafe and they discussed the difference to life "out there" and being back on terra).

Gentlefolk,

I've had something bugging me for a little while now and after searching the interwebs for info (coming up with bupkis) I turn to the learned medicos here for any possible answer(s).

I've been reading and enjoying the Medic "SH0R+ +R!PS" anthologies, but a few books back ("SH0R+ +R!PS & S!D3 S+3PS") had a story featuring the 6th medic entitled: G-o-n-e T-o-o S-o-o-n by Chr!st0pher M. W@dley .

During the story, Medic6 has been on trial and knows his time is coming to an end, so he goes about making little visits to important people/places as a last goodbye to the universe (sorta like how 10 did so with his old companions before he transmogrified).
There's a reference to an old man at the end whose identity seems knowable, IF one is familiar with that incarnation of the medic.
I am not (yet).

Here's a brief synopsis of the story:
The Medic has seen his future and knows that his current incarnation will be cut short in its prime. He prepares for his death by returning to the dawn of Time and carving his name on the first inhabitable planet, and then travelling to Germany to jam with the Be@tles before they hit it big. He observes the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven and gives his mother enough money to ensure that she will be able to keep the child her husband doesn't want. He then visits his old mentor at the time of his death, to bid him thanks and farewell. He then continues his journeys, satisfied that he has done all he needs to do in this life.

Not sure who this "old mentor" was, and even IF it WAS an "old mentor".
That was just the write up description from TR@DIS wikia.

Can anyone illuminate me?
The old man seemed important, but they deliberately obfuscated his identity in the story.

Thank you.

The 'old mentor' figures heavily in Medic3's last story, 'World of the Arachnids.'

Ah... I was WONDERING if it was the hermit or not, but he seemed to be more of a 3rd medic bio-bit.
I think I recall 4th medic mentioning him as well - once -, so I guess the chance of other incarnations mentioning him and that being the same old man in this story is very good.

Thanks.

Just found the A*B*S*L*O*M* *D*A*A*K* *D*A*L*E*K* *K*I*L*L*E*R* graphic novel .cbz sitting in my mega account. Don't know how it got there (might have been drunk) but if anybody wants a copy feel free. Some of the pages where in the wrong order so I've fixed that.

Hey all!

I recently stumbled across an excellent (but very large) compilation of the X-ant Medic's comic travails from the MEDIC ADVENTURES MAG aimed at the younger ones. Just his strips in a biiig fat omnibus.

It's very large (almost 450 mb) but a nice haul if you'd like these adventures all in one place.

I'll be asking for some help with some things soon, so consider this down payment on future favors ;] Enjoy!

Does anyone happen to have any of the alternative logo versions of the LC Missing Eps stories? Any others they might have done would also be appreciated - I think I only have the CC Highlander & 6 one.

Not really. But when it comes to audios I often download without realising what exactly it is. So when I get around to listening, it can be a novel surprise. Is it a Mate, a UNIT story, small voyages, the second part of a multi-parter... I have no idea. Each audio is an exciting new adventure.

However I have listened to 99% of the LC and 99% of the other ones. So I'm always finding for new releases. I grew up listening to old radio shows, so any well done full cast dramatisation usually gets my full and immediate attention. I miss "the box"!!!! the beeb airs lots of great radio dramas, many of which ive missed or almost missed due to lack of sources of airing info and availability.

I do, sincerely try to make an effort to read, watch and listen to medic stuff. The trouble is, for example, with listening to the LC stuff, is that I started listening to only a couple of years ago. Also, I have my own particular way of liking my audios formatted - on my iPod, as one file and numbered and named how I like. So downloading is only the start. I was up to date, with naming and numbering and formatting, up until earlier this year when a lot of bad stuff went down.

I've made good in actually going through my library and picking out some titles I've been meaning to read since I've bought (some going back to the early 80s!), so I am getting somewhere. It's not a slog by any means - it just takes time. And, as long as it's enjoyable.

Someone made a post about starting to listen to a fourth medic story recently, and didn't quite know what was going on - I find that a lot too. I have exactly the same problem of not picturing where a story is as well.

**BTW, does anyone have scans of Medic Magazine Special 29 The Eleventh Medic Vol 3 and Medic Magazine Special 33 The Eleventh Doctor 6? It would be much appreciated! Thank you.**

Yep, I have a lot of non-medic stuff to read too. I am partial to a bit of Agatha Christie. I find that in my household I can't listen to so much at the moment as I've got to do a lot of family stuff, and listening tends to be a lone affair. I can't listen to late at night, like I used to, as I have to get up at five each morning with my wife.

Honestly can't remember any of the story details, but I do remember giving them lots of 'benefit of the doubt' before having to give up over the wooden acting and really bad sound design. Applaud the effort, though.

LC Sale for the next 2 days includes Pepperpot Empire. Highly recommend at least picking up 1-3 (honestly after the third they start getting sort of terrible) if you haven't heard them yet. That's the reason I stopped posting on LC's boards. While LC does put out some great material, not every single release is a masterpiece. I don't know why some of the posters take a legitimate criticism as an attack. How else is LC to improve in quality if a person is not allowed to state concerns he or she has about a particular release or story element?

My breaking point with their forum was, IIRC, round about when P.Zero came out. I'd said something like "The character of so'n'so was banal and one-note, didn't like her at all. Shame as the actress did a brilliant job with her, as she normally does."

Stupid, pointless, conversation then follows where the fact I was talking about the character and NOT the actress wasn't taken into account and I got a PM from an LC staffer telling me to apologise to the actress or leave.

I left.

IMDB says Redmond is 20 years younger than Mara, but that the Rani first appeared 29 years ago, which makes Shioban 9 years older than Kate when she first took on the part.

Who cares.

I have a much more alarming thought.

Look at her hair.

Really look at it.

Doesn't it remind you of some one?

:)

The Rani subconsciously must have really enjoyed cosplaying as Mel in Time and the Rani, that she grew herself an uncontrollable ginger mop too...

Oh?

But this adventure is set against Sixy?

Is this an earlier Rani?

O'Mara is the Rani yet to come?

Or is this an older Rani who has crossed her own time line to meddle with a younger Doctor?

Or since O'Mara was alive when she agreed to this script, are they not going to tweak it?

Siobhan Redmond is such the perfect, and yes I mean perfect, choice. Anyone here who has not listened to "McLevy" starring her and Brian Cox...should do so immediately. It's a delightful radio drama in its 11th? Season. (4 EPs per season) Her character of Jean Brash is very sly....just like the Rani!!! Honestly Mclevy is my favorite currently running audio not produced by LC.

I quiet enjoyed the TV as no-more than the gentle Sunday evening TV it was meant to be.

Unfortunately, most books lose a lot when they're adapted for TV. I watched The Dresden Files and a friend told me to read the books - they're far better. I did and found myself wondering if the people who adapted the books for TV had ever read them.

True - but I'd not really class it as 'domestic' as such. He punches anybody ... and pays a heavy price for it. (Which doesn't mean I'm condoning it!) Yes, though, it's an aspect that could certainly be dialled back somewhat. In fact, when it's against women (which is what I guess you meant by 'domestic' rather than violence against a partner?) yes, in the cold light of day the books wouldn't suffer if that was removed completely. To be honest, I'd actually forgotten that he does do that now and then.

But the overall cowardice of the character that finds himself way over his head and/or backed into a corner that provokes some odd acts of inventiveness (peeing on a violin string and mud to escape a tunnel) and (admittedly selfish) bravery make for a better story. I used "The Judas Pair" idea as hook for one player and me RPG a few years ago.

Hi can I go off at a slight tangent here. As my wife may call me I'm a bit of a saddo and happen to have all of current 11 action figures in 5inch. So when the wor medic was released earlier this year I thought I would wait a bit until the market was flooded so they would be a bit cheaper than 15 squid, wrong, turns out they haven't made any more and now one poxy figure is about 50-60 quid on amazon, ebay.
Anyway I found a site in the US which says they will be getting some in for September 2014, however they don't post to the Uk and even if they did it's still quite pricey with the figure and posting..See below
