Feel free to make your own jokes about SJS and her sonic lipstick ...

Can honesty say I've never thought of SJS in *that* way. Although I have been known in days gone by to occassionally wonder if and how you could use a Perigosto Stick on a certain pneumatic 'american' 80s companion... :D

I am just not a fan of the magic Super-Screwdriver of the more recent series'. It is just used to make the series less wordy, while the Doctor used to have to explain things or come up with clever ways to approach problems, he now just waves his magic wand and that is pretty much it.

I do agree - and I'm hoping it'll be destroyed at Xmas, or that Capaldi's "trickier & fiercer" (TM SM 2013) Doctor will rely on it less, and his wits more...

Am I the only one who liked the animation for The Reign of Terror? The animation for The Invasion is alright but I don't like the cut out doll look to it. I liked the Reign of Terror due to the more detailed look of it.

Possibly... Reign suffers from abrupt, pointless, rapid cuts that wouldn't have been in the original. Quite a few characters were too detailed. Barbara looked very old much of the time.

I'm in the middle, I liked the LOOK of the Reign animation, the characters & sets were gorgeous, but though the EXECUTION was annoying - as Drake says above, too many fast, anime-style cuts, and not enough sticking to the original pacing - that's important to me. That's where Invasion got it RIGHT, but the actual ART did leave a bit to be desired. Haven't got my copy of Icey yet, but I wasn't overly thrilled by what I've seen - the movement of the characters reminded me WAAAY too much of "Archer", so on that level I may have problems taking it seriously. However, problems aside, I'd rather have these than nothing - and as much as I respect and appreciate the recons (and that's a LOT), they can get a bit repetitive and tedious at times...

And I'm still hoping this'll pretty much be a moot point soon, anyway... ;)

As *pictures*, I'll agree that the detail in Reign is superior, but the actual *animation* doesn't fit with the rest fo the series. Primarily, for me at least, you've got Camera Movement that just wouldn't have been possible in real-life at the time. It breaks the suspension of disbelief.

And, again for me at least, it's that odd choice to put a sepia cast over the whole thing. Why not just keep it black and white, and colour balanced against the original footage?

I feel the massive popularity of the new series (or rather, its fresh popularity) is going to carry DT. With CricketBoy being close behind the new Docs thanks to his being practically everywhere this year.

Who do I *think* should get it?

I think you may be right. Arguably it's not really "fair" to compare the two eras in the same poll as the shift in presentation and style has altered so much.

And poor McGann always get shafted as his BF work is rarely taken into account. The same could be said for Colin, too.

This is why one has Revo Uninstaller. That program is a Godsend and will uninstall any programs and then seek out the additional files the program puts on your computer and gives you the option of deleting them, which I always take. So it's like it was never installed on your machine in the first place! Best part? It's free!

This article (http://whatculture.com/tv/doctor-who-9-dropped-plot-threads-well-never-get-answers-to-and-1-we-will.php) annoys me. So my thoughts in a rant that no one will care about before I disappear for a couple days, lol.

The one we will get an answer to: Not necessarily.

9.) Not a dropped thread, this was brought up again in "The Name of the Doctor." River states that she made him tell her and that it took a long time.

Vastra: The Doctor does not discuss his secrets with anyone, my dear. If you're still entertaining the idea that you're an exception to this rule, ask yourself one question. What is his name?
River: Well I know it.
Clara: What, you know his name? He told you?
River: I made him.
Clara: How?
River: It took awhile.

8.) I don't think this was ever as important as this person is trying to make it out to be. It seemed to me to be more of a ADD moment that the Doctor is sometimes prone to.

7.) Ok, I'll admit there is a bit of a plot hole here, but not too major a one, especially with the fact that the clerics should be wiping out the Silents. However, thinking about it, it seems probable that the Silents manipulated them into joining the Silence. So, this person's conclusion, to me, is wrong. It's been over 3000 years since the moon landing incident! I'm pretty sure they could have found a way to manipulate a few thousand people by then. Especially with Madame Kovarian's help.

6.) This proposes that "The Name of the Doctor" was the fall of the 11th. An interesting thought, but I'm not entirely convinced. I guess that'll be proven one way or the other by the time he regenerates.

Dorium: On the fields of Trenzalore, at the fall of the Eleventh, when no living creature may speak falsely or fail to give answer, a question will be asked. A question that must never, ever be answered.
The "no living creature may speak falsely or fail to give answer" makes me question whether this episode really is the fall of the 11th, but I'm really more on the edge about it now after seeing the wording again. That could be refering to what the consequences would be of failing to answer it, and I can see why the Silence would want to prevent the Doctor from jumping into his own time stream.

But... yeah... the Silence didn't do a very good job in checking that the Doctor was dead...

5.) Moffat himself has stated that he had suggested Jenny survive in an off-handed comment, not really because he had a master plan for her. It wasn't so much of a dropped plot thread as it was a kind of happy ending stuck onto the episode. I wish I could find the interview where he talks about it, it's from a while back.

4.) Really a dropped plot thread or bad pacing? I'd chalk it up to bad pacing, and really some of this has come back in Matt Smith's era. Especially in series 7a.

3.) Completely misses the point of this scene (at least in my mind). I interpreted it as how unimportant she was to him.

The Doctor: Hey. Hello.
Lorna: Doctor.
The Doctor: You helped my friends. Thank you.
Lorna: I met you once. In the Gamma Forest. You don't remember me.
The Doctor: Hey, of course I remember. I remember everyone. Hey, we ran, you and me. Didn't we run, Lorna?
...
The Doctor: Who was she?
Madame Vastra: I don't know, but she was very brave.
The Doctor: They're always brave. They're always brave.

It seems to mean that this scene indicates there have been lot's of occasions like this, so many he can't remember all the people who's lives he's touched and made obsessed with him. But every one of them that dies because of him weighs heavily upon him.

The article admits that it might not have been important after all.

Strax's survival was explained in "Demon's Run: Two Days Later". (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xyh6yb_demons-run-2-days-later_shortfilms)

2.) Not an unresolved plot thread, more of a plot hole.

1.) I don't think this was meant to be a plot thread, just one of those things to intrigue fans and get them debating about the show.

Three hours? :) That's not bad at all!!

Joking aside - I understand why they had their rules but, man, they could be a PITA. I only used to use it for more obscure stuff. Now the problem with that is because it's obscure less people Had it and Wanted it, which made for a crummy ratio. I know they had the 'free' stuff and you could get good ratios by sharing various soaps but I used to really resent having to share stuff I had no interest in actually watching in the first place.

I understand, and appreciate, banning hit'n'runs on a 9gb DVD image. But, as what happened to me once ages ago, getting banned over a 120mb radio share that took a month to complete ... ouch.

as for dropped plot threads, I love them dearly. They give an indication of how large the universe is, how all we see of it is the moment we're there.

I've changed my mind about number 2. It's not a plot hole. In "The Power of Three", they go through several adventures the Doctor, Amy, and Rory go on, covering a period of well over a year from Amy and Rory's point of view. I don't see why "A Town Called Mercy" happens during "The Power of Three".

And I'm still hoping this'll pretty much be a moot point soon, anyway... ;)

Watched the Ice Warriors last night and was very disappointed in the animation. Very clunky movement. If anyone is old enough from the UK it looked like the kids programme "Mary, Mungo and Midge" from the early '70's

I agree about the constant cuts and how shots weren't last very long. I don't agree about the camera movements and how certain shots couldn't have been pulled off back then. I think that's being too nitpicky. Obviously the animators are working off of audio, telesnaps, and, if they're lucky, 8mm footage so I can understand them inventing certain shots. And I agree that some of the facial close-ups are little too detailed.
But at the end of the day I will go with this and the animation bits I've seen from The Tenth Planet anyday over the cut-out doll look of Patrick Troughton stories. I prefer the detailed animation. The Invasion wasn't that bad but the Ice Warriors is a different story. Its nice if this was an online project by a group of independent animator(s) that they put on youtube, but not really impressive when its BBC whose writing the check. I get it that they don't put a lot of money on these animated reconstructions because this is nowhere near the quality of any big animation studio. Its entirely possible to achieve great quality animation from a small group but that takes more time (and some cases more money).

This article (http://whatculture.com/tv/doctor-who-9-dropped-plot-threads-well-never-get-answers-to-and-1-we-will.php) annoys me...

I agree with you 100% -mostly just stuff that's coincidental to anything of importance or stuff no-one SANE cares about (I've NEVER understood this obsession with the ducks - why aren't more people clamouring to know why Amy's house in 11th hour had a third floor - besides the probable production stuff-up - hmmmm? HMMMM?)

I don't think Jenny was ever actually meant to come back, and SM was just leaving the option open unless he got an idea. The rest - not important, not of interest, or soon to be answered in the Xmas special. And I doubt (even hope) we will ever find out the whole story concerning the time war - it's like one of Lovecraft's 'eldritch, unspeakable horrors', any description would not be sufficient, and it's bound to be better in our imaginations...

Apart from anything, I find it hard to put much faith in article written by someone who seems to think there's an episode with entitled "A Town Called Panic"!! :D

Alternatively - Things like you mention at the end are regularly repeated on BBC Radio 4extra, so grab yourself an iplayer-ripper for the OS of your choice and just keep an eye on the schedules.

Hi Can anybody recommend an iplayer ripper for Radio, I always used to use radio downloader which would automatically download subscribed bbc radio shows. But guess what the bbc have now stopped this fantastic service so I now have to plug a 3.5mm jack from headphone to mic and get it that way. which is a time consuming pain in the bum

I cannot believe I have to ask this, I have prided myself on not using this forum to ask for favours or releases unless I have to.

But... What the hell is usenet? How do I join one, how do I find files? Is it like a torrent site?

What is the point of it?
Do I need software?
Do I pay?
What sites are reputable if I do pay?
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Also, any instructions?
Do I visit sites like I would for torrents?

Erm... Help...

As Nobber says, "Get iplayer automator" for OSX works a treat with the iplayer (radio and tv) as well as ITV on demand (conveniently cutting out the adverts too). It doesn't download TV in HD, so any downloaded file doesn't work v.well with a large TV but they do look great on an ipad. The radio downloads at the highest bitrate broadcast, so for Radio 3 that's 320kps mp3. Some of the speech stations use a lower rate I think.

Try this ... Giganews: Usenet and Newsgroups: What is Usenet? (http://www.giganews.com/usenet.html) - and try to think of it as one huge great email repository. As I never post, I use xusenet.com as a provider. (It's free to sign up. Only ten days retention, but full binary groups. Fine, though, if you're checking regularly. So just had a quick skim through The Ice-Ice-Baby-Fighters.

Holy Crap, but that animation sucks even worse than that of Rains Of Fright. The only saving grace is that it's nicely colour paletted against the B&W footage.

But that's it.

Poorly proportioned, lacking in detail, and (as mentioned previously) moved like Mary, Mungo and Midge. But without the charm.

It looks like the worse example of stuff done using the old WhoSprites (a project that seems to have died a death) and strike me more of a 'first pass' / 'proof of concept' animation rather than something that should have published.

For all the issues with the 'Direction' of Rains Of Fright at least they spent plenty of time getting the details right This is positively bland in comparison.

This article (http://whatculture.com/tv/doctor-who-9-dropped-plot-threads-well-never-get-answers-to-and-1-we-will.php) annoys me.

Yep, that was annoying! And a few, I think, that have perfectly simple explanations easily missed by looking too deep (eg. the ducks)! I'll share a couple of thoughts, though, if I may:

7) I've got no problem with this one. We've been given nothing to suggest that those two cleric armies belonged to the same church.

6) I think all that 'question that must never be answered' milarky is over & done with. They've shown us where The Doctor fell in battle & explained that the importance of not answering the question is that it prevents people breaking into his tomb.

4) I thought that episode gave us plenty of justification for The Doctor's character changes. Far more baffling was the behaviour of the astronaut woman (whose name escapes me). She spends the whole episode reasoning/bullying/begging/pleading & whatever else she could think of to persuade The Doctor to save her from the Puddle Of Death & then, when he does, she gives him a good telling off & shoots herself! What a pillock!

1) RTD has since admitted that this only happened because he was out of ideas, struggling to finish the script & it was a stupid idea & he wishes he'd never done it! Personally, the Captain Jack plot that leaves me wondering is the one about his two years of stolen memories! When he first met The Doctor & Rose, it was the driving force behind his character - they'd stolen his memories & nothing was going to stop him from getting them back!

Potential Solution: His condition got worse & he forgot he'd lost his memories in the first place.

I suppose if you really had to you could explain her topping herself as some sort of "Paradox self-correction" to deal with him messing with a fixed point, but I agree it's a bit dodgy. Equally dodgy is that the Doctor doesn't do something like dump them somewhere out of the way in the future somewhere so they can't cause any trouble. History showed that the base on Mars was destroyed presumably with all hands, but it's not like they found the bodies. As long as they don't rock up at home no-one's any the wiser.

I always hated that idea and I've always considered it a cheeky gag rather than anything to consider seriously, the same as the Doctor telling Clyde that he has 507 regenerations in SJA.

Oh and thanks a lot Bulletzen :)

This is why I cannot understand why people want 6 parters all done this way :O Do they not realise the budget per episode will be even lower so the animation will be worse? It's OK for something to look at whilst listening to the soundtrack when there are gaps in a story but for a replacement for missing visuals for a whole story would be embarrassing.

It's not the lenght of time it's the quality. What did he do for those thousand years? Nothing. Like handing a bunch of prepubescent kids over to some unidentified aliens without knowing why.

Corks!

Moderately good story and one that definitely feels like it fits the season.

And I know we give Briggs a bit of a kick on here now and then but this one sort of made it clear for me .. WHY. His take on 9nth was pretty good, Piper tolerable and Barrowman terrible.

But it was his narration.

All I was thinking was "For f*cks sake, you're not on the witness stand. Just *RELAX* and get that sonic from out your butt."

Not a bad story, though.

Now ... I've not been really completely concentrating entirely on these as I suspect one probably should but there's nothing that's really leapt out at me yet as being anything that ties these all together as being "DESTINY!" like.

What have I missed? Have all of 11's interactions in the stories been leading to Something, or have they all just been a means-to-and-end on purely an individual story level?

I imagine one was busy filming for the 50th anniv episode and the other was doing the next season of Arrow. : /

Apologies for anyone who hasn't seen the finale of Arrow, but didn't Barrowman's character take a dirt nap at the end, or did he actually survive? Maybe he was busy filming something 'special' (nudge, nudge, wink, wink...)

Lets face it Eccleston or Piper weren't going to do this and Barrowman was busy working in Arrow when recording for this begun. I'm no lover of Nick (the ego) Briggs but he does a somewhat passable (just) 9th Doc impression. His Captain Jack however....http://i.imgur.com/MHjXlWG.gif
Corks!

Piper could have squeezed in a day to record it, though. Could have been part of her contract for filming of the 50th.

its taken jut over 26 hours to get the full cast adaptation of the painting dude... I joke not... the net is shite today and after 28 attempts, I managed to get a complete set of undamaged files! uploading now, but going to bed...all being well, will be able to post link when I wake up!
What really gets up my nose is that the ones I don't pay for, from here give me less stress to download, and yet the ones I pay for, I waste a whole day on trying to download!
I got a reply from my email to LC that said..."sorry for your problems downloading your content, however our server is experiencing issues today, due to a high level of demand".....

Well they take my money months in advance. but cant provide a service that gives me my content when its released!!!!!!

A disappointing story considering its writers. It felt more like they were trying to cram a novel onto a CD. I haven't been a fan of this range at all, and I think this is probably the weakest one so far. Just please tell me Briggs isn't playing Tennant next month.

I wonder if anyone asked Noel Clarke or Camille Coduri?

Then they should have written a Mickey or Jackie story.

It would have been embarrassing to ask them to read for other peoples stories.

Fortunately Nick Briggs has no Shame.

Seriously?

Nick played the voice of the Nestene Intelligence!

Either a prequel or a side ways story running side by side with Rose.

Ditto for the Dalek Emperor.

The Dalek Emperor was sitting on the edge of the Solar System for 100s of thousands of years, it's possible that the Nestene had to fight their way through the Daleks to get to Earth?

How is that not a story you want to listen to?

Meanwhile, before man was suitable, do you think that the Dalek Emperor was harvesting biology from the Icewarriors and Sulurians to make Daleks?

I didn't understand at first that she called everyone Chuck, and foolishly believed for 12 seconds that the Doctors real name was Chuck.

12 ridiculous seconds.

Years earlier because 3 screamed "Jehoshaphat" in proximity to the Master in the Death Zone during the 5 Medics, I concluded that they accidentally dropped his real name.

You really have to wonder why Romana didn't pick a false name to travel under?

(Well she did, but not really.)

That pat answer from them, obviously intended to be more of a "Hay! Aren't we popular!" really gets my goat. If memory serves, there were no cancellations. The Hounds of Artemis was delayed and Karen Gillan was replaced by Clare Corbett. Runaway Train, which was originally intended to have 2 voices, was moved up in the schedule with Matt Smith completing the reading solo. Gillan did no further readings, instead the parts went to Clare Corbett.

Off the record... during the time of Karen's scheduled audio recording sessions, she was doing the club scene and frequently in the tabloids. Same time period, Karen provided the voice over for some informal tv-behind-the-scenes videos on YouTube in which it is obvious she was intoxicated

The most common problems.

Only the most updated version of firefox work. It's about something called HTML5. Chrome has HTML5. Install chrome and use it for this. Then ignore it until you have to download a different mega link. Chrome is pretty shit.

The linky programs in your browsers don't work. You can't just click on the mega link because your browser only sees half the link. Highlight the link yourself and then copy it and then paste it into a chrome browser, and then you should be away laughing.

But Jdownloader, yes, it cuts through a lot of bullshit.

Filmed in Canada, and set in Canada. Made with Canadian money for Canadian TV. Most of the actors are Canadian.

The lead is American though, so by these stupid rules applied to Journeyman, it counts.

Okay, this is how it works, a series has to made in America with American money with the lead actors, the top two or three, being American... Otherwise it's an "international" effort.

If you put an American Actress in front of a Canadian production that still makes it internationaly.

Thank you America for all the money you put into this stuff, but thank god your casting calls extend past your rigid boarders.

(This is a good thing.)

Oh... Everyone should have watched Orphan Black by now because it's sublime.

Doesn't it have his brother (in real life) playing his brother (on the show)...or some crap like that...I kept trying to watch it, but instead of finding a strong direction by the third season (which most show seem to accomplish - if they last!~yeah I know I opened this up for debate, and there are shows that don't but I did say most), it lost itself and died a slow painful death!!!

Though the thing about that show is that, despite having a unique concept -- and quite a few good episodes -- a lot of the episodes were just rip-offs of whatever big blockbuster was in theaters that week.

That's all but to be expected at this point. They likely won't even start filming until 2014, and considering the turn around time for the show is pretty long it makes sense. Plus, having the show in the fall just feels right in a lot of ways, at least for me.

I can't help but feel that the following all play into why we have to wait so long these days;
- Larger audience, more to lose. This means the BBC uses a gargantuan budget for the series.
- This budget exceeds the amount the execs are comfortable spending on a yearly report, so it is spread out over two per series.
- Moff is overworking himself with the various series and projects he is handling at one time.

A complete series is not e-fricking-nough.

We used to have three complete series a year.

Yes, I'm counting Sarah Jane.

Now we have HALF a series a year.

The problem isn't that fans are wandering off because Doctor who is shit, they're wandering off because they forget that it exists in the 18 months between half frakking seasons.

Just been reading that one, and it mentions how nobody really liked Doctor Shaw. Well I loved her, she was one of my favourite companions of all time.
She wasn't the helpless damsel. She was opinionated and well-grounded and intelligent. She had her own values and her own agenda, and she didn't need the Doctor -or anyone else- to give her life meaning. Everything I look for in a character, and I wish more female characters were written like that.

personally, just get rid of the Moff and get someone who can actually do the job instead of becoming a publicity whore always talking about how great he is and how great his job is, how he likes to lie, and tease fans, how he never reads the internet, yet always talks about how the fans know nothing and quotes things from the said internet, that he never reads!
This years BBC report said their profits were down because of LESS who being on, and so they had less to sell, and less merchandise sold because of lower exposure...the BBC WANT more Who. Remember its a product to be fiscally exploited to them....its the Moff that's not able to supply the product!
He is always late with his scripts, he thinks up titles first, and panics how to write the episodes to match the titles, and as we all know, does not even pay off all the story threads he seeds through his seasons.
I feel sorry for medic 11.... where is his dalek masterplan? his web of fear? his green death, pyramids of mars?
The closest he's got to an Androzani, is a few throw away lines in a naff xmas special!
And yet the moff gave us "are you my Mummy?", killer statues and girls in fire places... whats gone wrong?
........ Oh yeah... no one to edit him and crack the whip like RTD clearly must have done!

The only P.R.O.B.E. I've perused thusfar is The Zero Imperative, which was good. I liked it.
But... I don't like it being Liz. All good her worldview being expanded by her time with the Doctor, but for her to completely forsake her erstwhile ambitions and drives to turn paranormal investigator just seems strange and uncomfortable.

The ID- I'd not noted that. Interesting and sad. My thought is Three probably nicked it with the normal Doctor-kleptomania, and the Doctor kept it like he keeps all the things. A poignant reminder of things that have left him behind.

Jackboots- Jackboots look abfab on most people, in my opinion. :D

Sorry if this has been mentioned, but I've been very busy lately and only checking in sporadically. Wanted to note, though, that Melmoth is a very fitting pseudonym for an exile and for the fictional Gray.

Melmoth the Wanderer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melmoth_the_Wanderer)

Not to mention being one of the all-time great Gothic novels. Has some setpieces that are still absolutely horrifying today. You know, if you like that sort of thing. You can get a nice, free, perfectly legit copy of it, too!

This happens alot where fans of a show or fans of comics repeat something often enough they will believe it is a fact even when the parties involved state that it isn't. Personally there is the pedestal-then an axe to grind with most genre fans and it is sadly distasteful.

I'm not sure why, maybe some one got married or died, very little difference between those two, but the DWAD wiki seems to be rudderless with no bugger manning (or womanning) the wheel...

no again looking at the history of the page many of those individual pages weren't made when the release was dropped but well after sometimes months, many times year. a new individual page does not get put up the same time it is dropped.

The page is as updated as it has ever been the only thing weird is your perception it should be immediate but the page is constantly being updated and is far from rudderless as you suggest -- a simple click of the history shows us that

Why is that weird? It's Wikipedia. Whoever was creating those pages, it probably wasn't BF themselves, so it was some fan who either got busy and/or bored and hasn't bothered in a while. Nothing weird going on. It's life on the internet. People come and go and Wiki pages languish until someone else takes up the torch.

Then I wonder what happened? because he clearly has lost the art of telling a complete and well rounded tale these days

What happened was that before Muffet was constrained by only writing a single story (a two parter at most). This alone is a bigger limit than any editing RTD may or may not have done.

A single tale which HAD to tie up loose ends, which HAD to come to a conclusion in 42 mins, which HAD to make sense.

but given the whole series he no longer has these limits, so we get dropped story threads, we get late scripts, we get split series, we get plot holes (TATM, seriously!? get a train to Washington....), and, yes, we get the ego....

Muffet is the ultimate promoted Fan-boy; DT (and PC to come) may have been huge fans before getting the part, but they "just read the lines" - Muffet has control

and it has gone to his head.

intra-management arguments, a sense that he "owns" the show (or even "IS" the show), the arrogant attitude to fans, the massive claims ("take over TV" ? really?), the confused story arcs, those F***KING 'Cyleks' from AOTD, (I mean ,why? why would they have the eye-stalk come out of their heads? it has no purpose for them and is only there to make them "pepperpot" to the viewer) and so many other problems.

It is time for a fresh start, New Medic, New Showrunner.

What say you all?

I totally agree that Shaw was way ahead of her time, being intelligent and beautiful. The closest the show has come since then has been Nyssa. Which is sad, really. But figures and fans both will always say that the Doctor works best when the Companion is out of their element and asking for help.

A modern interpretation of this whole thing would be the Martha-conundrum. Where she was an awful character in the series and then brilliant on her own in TW.

On a completely different note, something is bothering me. Reading this (http://thewertzone.blogspot.com.au/2013/08/doctor-who-at-50-third-doctor-1970-74.html) look at the Pertwee era, I came across something odd.
Amusingly - and long before Star Trek made it an issue - the writers decided they couldn't be bothered to come up with technobabble on a weekly basis and simply had the Doctor 'reversing the polarity of the neutron flow' whenever a tech-problem emerged.
I'm sure I read somewhere, possibly the Completely Useless Encyclopedia, that he only actually said that once. It was one of those quotes that got remembered and reused by fandom.

So for those who have better memories than I do, what's the truth of it?

This is largely true. He often reversed "such and such", but he only ever said that specific thing once or twice to my memory.

However, both with old fans and cast members, it is a hallmark of his era. One of those things that is simply too great to bother correcting.

BRIGADIER: You've been agitating for a new assistant ever since Miss Shaw went back to Cambridge.
DOCTOR: Liz was a highly qualified scientist. I want someone with the same qualifications.
BRIGADIER: Nonsense. What you need, Doctor, as Miss Shaw herself so often remarked, is someone to pass you your test tubes and to tell you how brilliant you are. Miss Grant will fulfil that function admirably.
DOCTOR: Well, what's the girl doing here anyway? UNIT's no place for trainees.
BRIGADIER: No, I couldn't agree more, Doctor, but Miss Grant was very keen to join us and she happens to have relatives in high places.

Fricking nepotism.

Thank you! I thought as much, good to have someone back me up.

Certainly he "reversed the polarity of the neutron flow" in The Seas Devils when he and the Master escaped at the end and blew up their base. Not sure he said it else where but as said he was always reversing this and that :)
