"Fake" NEWS - Real Message.

The BBC has denied rumors of a Nigerian cache of "wiped" Doctor Who episodes. The "419" Nigerians (http://www.419eater.com/html/419faq.htm) need your help to get the tapes out of the country. Watch your email for chain letter details...

While you are waiting for your turn to help, you can invest in this scam:

Thanks to our friends at Doctor Who Online (http://news.drwho-online.co.uk/RogueCyberman-Missing-Episode-Scam-BEWARE!.aspx) we have learned that this most untrustworthy of online identities is essentially offering missing episodes in exchange for paid access to pictures of naked girls. I don't see how that can go wrong...

Someone was gracious enough to PM me the soundtrack for the 5th Medic's swan song. Thanks! I'm sorry if was seeming a bit unreasonable about getting it. I've been a bit stressed lately, and the incident in Boston didn't exactly help. Hopefully hearing some 80s Who music will. But if any of you still want to re upload it for anyone else who wants it, do so. I'm sure there are other people who are interested.

On the front cover of the 50th anniversary script it gives the title as BLUE AMENDS as shown in this photo...http://liberalvaluesblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Matt-and-David-cropped.jpg...now I'm assuming that's a fake title but the only thing I can come up with is its an anagram of LUBE DEMANDS. is the "Blue" possibly a reference to the "harvest" of that colour, and secret script names in general?
Although....I can think of something blue...
more likely just the name for the latest revision of the script. Blue amendments, green amendments etc, etc as the rewrites occur

The colors are the versions of 'revision' as they were published with the RTD-Writer's Tale. The titlke is '50th anniversary special' as written under 'the medic' and above the by SM.

Not too keen on Planer's readings, either. Especially the 'Guards' ones as he makes Vimes sound like a complete plank.

From reading reviews at the time I get the feeling that Sky won't bother with any more. I think they got a bit side-swiped by the completely lack of interest in them.

Which is a bit of a shame as there's no denying that they all looked fantastic, but suffered from some real miscasting (David Jason as Rincewind???) and missing a certain something that the books had.

Time, I believe, for BF to take hold of them. Warner as DEATH, of course. Toby Longworth as Vimes.

In British TV scripts are modified with the insertion or addition of coloured pages. The colours indicate how recent the changes are. 'Amends' simply stands for 'amendments.

Hi I posted this before, but I think it got missed in the discussion -

Could someone help me find Warriors of Passion 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8? I've been enjoying the ones already uploaded. If they've already been posted could somebody point me in the right direction. It's hard for me to backtrack because of my vision.

If I'm making this request inappropriately, please let me know.

THANKS!

'Going Posty'
because the awful david jason was relegated to something closer to a bit part

There was another TV version planned (Think it was the follow-up to Going Postal), don't know what's happening with that.
as long as they drop the awful david jason they might get it to work

There's a TV series in the pipeline about the Watch. I think it's Pratchett's daughter behind it.
this is good news! unless the awful david jason is involved
Wee Free as a kids show.....?
thing is I always imagined the pictsies (all of them) being played by Billy Connoly, and the almost swearing maybe wouldn't work in a kids show

Agreed!

Not too keen on Planer's readings, either. Especially the 'Guards' ones as he makes Vimes sound like a complete plank.

I'm surprised that there's not been more radio versions.

Or even TV versions, for that matter, even though the only that really worked properly for me was 'Going Posty'

Really like the telly films, but yes "Posty" is by far & away the best - would love them to do "Makin' Money" some time. Wonder whatever happened to "Unseen Academicals", which is meant to be the next one?

On radio, the Beeb just recently did a version of "Eric", which I'm a bit torn about, as I think they played it just a bit *too* much for laughs - no subtlety...

I haven't been watching, but may give it a go. although CC's writing has done little inspire me to do so.
CC's episode have been among the weaker of the new series, the weaker of TW (with possible exception of cuntryside). I just don't rate him as a writer.
and considering not long ago we were discussing how there were no female writers, and very little in the way of NEW writing talent; to bring back someone who it seems TV execs like, but whose quality is....debatable seems not to be the best idea in the world
but my true fear is the scenario of
SM: "well i've ballsed up the 50th and pissed off all the fans, chosen Michael Macyntire as the next medic, time for me to leave; who can I pass the baton on to? oh look a writer who has experience of writing and running his own show, perfect!"

Really? Wow! Then we have wildly differing interpretations! IMHO (of course! :) ) Steven Briggs doesn't sound disgusting when he says it in the audiobooks. And calling someone taller than you a "Big Job" in a cod scots accent isn't really ANY where near swearing.

In fact, I think the closest they even come to swearing is probably 'crivens'.

and tbh we don't actually talk about the audios much
mostly we all realise that we listen at our own rate and a general don't-give-spoilers attitude means we say little of "ohh! when seven did...." or such
in addition LC release everything at the start of each month, so there tends to be a lot of time between flurries of activity where the madder of us end up talking about Captain Pugwash.
actually, why dont LC spread their releases out a bit more?
main range in week one
friends of the medic in week two
4DA in week three
a special or spin-off in week four
then the same the next month
Wouldn't this allow for better marketing and promotion?

It might, but there aren't always the same number of releases each month. I agree tho, it would make more sense which is probably why BF don't do it.

I realise LC are a business and need to make money - hence the reason the Daleks appear frequently on covers and in story titles, but I was discussing this a few days ago with a fellow DW fan - I genuinely don't think because of the way they are run that LC will ever be able to provide a genuine goosebump/surprise moment aka "The cliffhanger to Earthshock Episode One effect". The closest I can recall is The Elite when the supposed villain was revealed and had been given very little fan fare.

It infuriates me the way they will release a story such as "Doctor Who : of the Daleks" which clearly has the Daleks in it, clearly features the Daleks on the front cover and yet they spend the whole first episode of the damn thing trying to build up some tension in the drama as to "[I]Who could possibly be behind this?". It completely baffles me the logic behind it.

How good would it be to have a story with a title and cover art that gave nothing away about the story or the villains. Then you listen to the story thinking its one thing (i.e. a historical story) and then BANG! End of Episode One, Tegan has been attacked by an Ice Warrior taking refuge in Iceland supermarket during a heatwave...I digress, but would it kill them to have a bit of a surprise with these things. Does anyone else think this or am I in the mental minority?

No, it does take some of the fun out of it when you know who the villain is before you start listening - either because of the title or the villain is on the cover. Biggest surprise I had recently was at the end of Homeworld 5. I hadn't read anything about it, or Homeworld 6 so I honestly never saw it coming.

And incidentally would it kill Large Conclusions to have a Dr Who adventure featuring the 1980s cybermen with David Banks as Cyberleader? Then again that would mean Nicholas Briggs wouldnt get to do the fecking voices, so that probably explains that veto...

LC don't operate within any logical parameter as far as I can tell, and David Banks is probably not allowed within a mile of the LC offices.

Infact they probably have a shoot on sight policy.

No. Not you. I see where you're coming from. Probably the last big surprise they had was end the of Hex's last story, and prior to that just how well they hid certain details of the last lot of EDAs. So quite ironic that the big cliffhanger for the last Gally series seems to have generally been received with groans.

I don't entirely mean this as an anti-MrB comment, but it's about time they had a little shake-up at the top to bring some new life back into them all. There's no doubt that he did them a great service when he first started as head-honcho (such as making writers stick to 4x25m format better than GR did, introduced a far more consistent 'brand' across the ranges, got the website (relatively) better, and introduced the downloads etc etc) but the last two years have been a real slump in form.

But at least they've only RELATIVELY slumped at the moment. A good percentage of their stuff is still pretty darn good, but by their own standards they've slumped. If you see what I mean.

When we get to levels of "Scardy Kat" we know we're in deep trouble ...

LC don't operate within any logical parameter as far as I can tell, and David Banks is probably not allowed within a mile of the LC offices.

Infact they probably have a shoot on sight policy.

Ah! Obviously I WAS mistaken in thinking of his mortal status.

But how comes he's not allowed near BF? Have I missed something?

Biggest surprise I had recently was at the end of Homeworld 5. I hadn't read anything about it, or Homeworld 6 so I honestly never saw it coming.

I guessed as soon as they started talking about A Message.

That's a bit of a fib, as I also hoped it'd be K9 coming to Mistress(es).

But as soon as I heard The Ring Modulator Of Doom I really did let out a proper, spoken, world-weary with resignation "oh four forks sake" that they'd gone for that particular clich.

It was just a offhand comment about something Katrinaau said

And incidentally would it kill Large Conclusions to have a Dr Who adventure featuring the 1980s cybermen with David Banks as Cyberleader? Then again that would mean Nicholas Briggs wouldnt get to do the fecking voices, so that probably explains that veto...

If David Banks gets in on the scene Nick Briggs would have to give up his monopoly on the cyber voices. Something I don't think he'd be to keen on doing.

I've not listened to a CD-Extra in ages. They've always been either pure 'back slapping' or "so what are your early memories" questions that we've heard the answers to so many, many, times before.

And it's a real cheek B taking most of the credit for the EDAs when most of the work was really done by Alan Barndoor and Barndoory Edwards; especially the latter for some of the incredible casting.

Yeah, I like Dorney's work, too, but he's another that could turn into a "write the theme tune, sing the theme tune" type as he turns up quite a bit as an actor. He's not a bad actor, mind you, but they've got better ones on their books.

But Katarinaau really hits the nail on the head ... There's nothing intrinsictyly wrong with having all the ranges (and, it would seem, die-hard Holmes fans really like Bruggs' ones!) but they are spreading themselves too thin and they just won't admit it to themselves.

It feels like they feel that if they got in more folks to run lines properly they'd loose that "we're a small company" flag they wave when ever there's a valid complaint raised at them. (like when their servers fall flat on their faces during a sale/big-event. Like they did the last big event. And the one before that. You know, the one's you should learn from.)

I've a LOT of respect for them, but, by gum, they really need to swallow some pride and have a rethink soon before they implode.

Was it Briggs or Russell who oversaw that GOD AWFUL Eighth Doctor Divergent Universe group of stories? Whoever rubber stamped THOSE stories should never be allowed to work in Doctor Who media ever again. So tedious. I actually stopped listening to them after a while and only rejoined McGann monthlies when his doc returned to the normal universe.

Russell.

It was Briggs that had to put the handbrake on it when Cardiff told them they had to bring 8th back into 'our' universe.

The Divergent Arc wasn't such a bad idea, really, but it never REALLY felt like they were somewhere 'different" - the stories were still the same 'different planet/different time' format but the travel method was by the, erm, what-ever-it-was-called-zone-thing rather than by The Tardis. The individual stories weren't too bad, but they were let down by the framing device.

EDIT TO ADD - And, of course, C'hrzz story was crippled and cut short by the return to our universe. Not a bad exit story, but you know that there was proper 'build-up' missing due to the hasty return.

EDIT TO ADD MORE - And the whole Divergent thing was all somehow Davros' fault? I never did work out the logic of that one. That was a real WTF story in LOTS of ways.

The only memorable thing about the Divergent universe ...

Ha! I was going to properly defend some of the others ... but then I remembered that it's been so long since I last heard them that I can't remember the details enough. I really liked 'The Next Life', though, but, wow, was that a CD too long.

The Shelly's weren't too bad apart from them making her "Charley-Lite" with the obvious falling in love with him. And that damn awful take on the theme tune.

I can't say I liked many of those, but C*a*e*r*d*r*o*i*a was excellent, in my opinion. It's one of my favorite medic 8 stories.

Agreed!

(Am I the only one who actually liked the theme from the Shelley audios?)

I really wanted to like it, and I've a lot of respect for what Robertson tried to do, but it just doesn't quite work for me. But I'm one of those odd types that actually likes the Debney version it was based on :)

Saying that, I'd like Roberston to be given another chance at either remixing that (for me, at least drop the obsession with the faux choir that's been so present since Gold introduced the idea on TV) or be told to do a completely NEW version but told that he's not to use Gold as an inspiration.

I does lose its way slightly at the end, but the opening and middle is excellent.

Agree completely about the choir thing btw.

It just gets too ... complicated ... as it goes along. The underlying version is pretty well orchestrated as it is, but then to layer over the clattery rhythm section, faux choir and the rest just makes it ... messy.

The episode end 'sting' always jars, too, and not in a good way. It's like he's accidentally slipped his work by a bar or two and hoped no-one would notice that the timing doesn't quite match properly.

Seriously 10/10 for the idea and for having the guts to try it.

4/10 for the realisation.

let's see. distinctly underwhelmed by the Divergent universe, the exception being Caerdroia - my enjoyment of which having nothing to do with its setting and everything to do with the story.
they could've done so much more with the no-concept-of-linear-Time thing.

also, of the Eighth's audios, I was largely unmoved by the EDAs. not one of them made me go OYUS, and several earned an altogether more negative response.
(I loved the character Lucie, but the stories themselves were somewhat uninspiring)

there was definite Theme Music Hate. my notes describe it as "shitty, tinkly, plaguy crap" around Venice and the Minuet. I was heartily sick of it by Neverland, actually going so far as to skip past it. I never skip the theme! But I did.
Invaders had an interesting variation, but still not... good.
the Turk's theme I thought was a bit messy and busy.

Just read an article on Planet Mondas regards the 50th Anniversary special. I have chosen not to put the link here as I am aware this is not the thread for that discussion and some of us want to go into the special with no foreknowledge...

Having said that, if what their apparently reliable sources have said is true (the two sources mentioned were banned from Gallifrey Base for revealing spoilers and were contacted by Ed Russell - Senior Brand Executive BBC Worldwide - for the same reason) then I think Moffat is going to annoy fandom anyway with this "special"...

I am annoyed!!!

I can't see a problem with posting the link. Bung it in SPOILER tags and make it clear what the content is and folks can decide for themselves.

I liked some of the Divergent Universe arc. Scherzo, The Last, Caerdroia and The Natural History of Fear. These plays were experimental and provocative, at least. But the quality with many of the others was wildly variable. The Twilight Kingdom I recall as being particularly awful and I really struggled through that three-disc one - Next Life? Whoa, that was three hours of my life I'll never get back. The non-time/anti-time idea was left largely undeveloped and came across as a cultural conceit rather than an actual physical or practical law - everything was linear, events happened, so there must've been a philosophical angle on this observable phenomenon from some scholar on one of these worlds at some point - but this was never explored. The "no time" idea was just stated, as a matter of accepted fact, but it didn't seem to be the case to the listener.

Sashabot, I'm glad it's not just me that didn't get the much-lauded Terror Firma. Many of that author's plays hinge on one central big emotional idea that weve never heard of before but which is introduced and then wrapped up within the story. In this one, we're asked to accept a whole previously unmentioned/forgotten T*A*R*D*I*S crew and D*a*l*e*k invasion of Earth. Dropping in big, character-changing revelations might work in soap opera but this smacks of ret-conning for the sake of emotional engagement which just felt incredibly manipulative to me. I suppose all writing is emotional manipulation to a greater or lesser extent, but, well, it's how you tell 'em.

I don't mean to be negative on this great board, but I do have a quick gripe about Moff. These spoilers (and shame on GB if they've banned anyone for spoiling in the spoiler section) indicate that Moff is throwing his usual method into overdrive for the 50th. He's subverting expectations. The problem with that is that when you do little else but subvert expectations, people begin to realize it and start expecting things to be different. Call it M. Night Shyamalan syndrome. "OK, what's the twist?" It quickly goes from clever subversion to tiresome gimmick. If he's really going to do what has been mentioned, then I'm glad it's out of the bag. That was his big reveal. That was his contrivance, in place of what many fans had hoped for, and it's already spoiled. What now, Moff? Maybe you should have brought back 4-8 for a victory lap, after all. But that would never be clever enough, would it?

How good would it be to have a story with a title and cover art that gave nothing away about the story or the villains. Then you listen to the story thinking its one thing (i.e. a historical story) and then BANG! End of Episode One, Tegan has been attacked by an Ice Warrior taking refuge in Iceland supermarket during a heatwave...I digress, but would it kill them to have a bit of a surprise with these things. Does anyone else think this or am I in the mental minority?

Agreed. On the other hand, UN**IT DOM**INION had a pretty good surprise enemy.

Russell.

I have an audio file (I believe it was simply labeled Magazine 6) which stated that BF chose to end the divergent universe stories themselves because dw was coming back to tv and they wanted fans to check them out and felt that this whole divergent thing would have left them going 'whaa?'.

I agree that the whole 'universe without a concept of time' was grossly underdeveloped and the ending felt very rushed. I didn't see the point of them not having the tardis yet still being able to go to all these great places. It would have made more sense for me if the only way to travel was via the zone. That would have been a place alien to our concept of the universe.

Also, I can't recall Davros having anything to do with it. Rassilon was aware of the place and the medic went there because of his anti time contamination. They simply met Davros on the way back. Unless I missed something?

Scherzo is a work of wonders. It's all credit to everyone concerned that McG and Fisher hold your attention for so long.

I didn't originally find that story terribly interesting. Seemed a bit long. I've gained new appreciation for it after listening to Solitare. On of my favorite CCs by the way. It's on my list of stories to give a second listen to after I get caught up.

Leaving a space for 12 which...

would match what the Mondas claim says - i.e. in Nov at end of anniversary ep we will know who Doc 12 is and Matt regens at Xmas just in time for 12th Doc merchandise..

Again apologies to all who hate this kind of speculation and gossip. This will be the last time I will do it on this particular thread.

Don't apologise. You warned people and placed the story inside spoilers - if anyone looks it's their own fault.

As for Briggs, maybe it it his ego or maybe it's economics. As exec at BF, I'd say he gets a fixed salary regardless of what he does. If he keeps hiring people to do all the jobs he does, it's all extra wages he has to spend which will come out of the budget for the story. I can imagine that having the actors who are voicing the audio voice other parts would also mean paying them more too. Now, if he is wearing all these different hats for the same pay then kudos to the man.

Agreed. On the other hand, UN**IT DOM**INION had a pretty good surprise enemy.

Might have been if BF hadn't run an article about Alex McQueen playing The Master just after the story was released (or it may have been a headline on the front of the magazine about an interview with the man).

I think your previous quote answered the question. The ego of Mr B.

i agree wholeheartedly with what you say about him. He is executive producer, writer, director, star and - as I alluded to in a previous post - when you have someone with that power in a company, who is going to stand up to him and say "Listen Nick, I think to be honest the market is a bit saturated with Dalek stories...maybe give them a rest for a while?" Its one of the reasons I no longer listen to the podcasts. David Richardson comes across as a sycophantic little pet for Mr B. Some of the extras on the CDs now are very much in the back slapping "arent we great" mould as well which has always annoyed me.

John Dorney - for my money - is the absolute best writer at Big Finish. I rarely dont find something to enjoy in his stories. Foe From the Future was simply perfection from start to finish. Admittedly he had Robert Banks Stewart skeleton to work from, but it was brilliant. I think he is more deserving to write some of the big stories. Mr B is writer and director for this 50th anniversary story. Thats why, tbh, I am not that fussed.

Mr B is an excellent writer. Creatures of Beauty was an excellent story and, in fairness, I did enjoy some of the Dark Eyes boxset, but I think the praise he got for the end of the Eighth Doctor adventures (and deservedly so at the time) has made him think he is the only man for the job when it comes to writing the big stories - look at his interview in the latest Vortex. He says basically that about how he felt he HAD to write it etc etc. No harm to him, if he was that good, why has he never been asked to do a story for the television series.

And whilst he has brought great things to LC, I ask you all...did we really need a Graceless series? A Gallifrey series? A Counter Measures series? ANOTHER Sherlock Holmes with Mr b as Holmes? LC are in major danger of spreading themselves to thin.

Excellent points, all! Especially can't see why the world needs more bloody 'Gross-less'.

Matt Fitton has impressed me greatly of late, too. New blood is always a good thing - it doesn't always reap rewards, but when it does, it can be blindingly good.

this series' finale's title is also out:
"The Name of the Doctor"
i hope it is not Fred or something,no offense Fred

I have a huge problem with this (as I did in the end of Season 6). Doesn't the reveal of the name kind of ruin, oh, I don't know, the name of the show? It just bothers me that Moffat thinks he can do these giant reveals, that will inevitably let down fans. I personally will be let regardless of how "cool" the name is. I don't think it should be revealed. I think that it, like the Time War, should be kept secret and that fans can ONLY speculate about it.

Agreed. On the other hand, UN**IT DOM**INION had a pretty good surprise enemy.

I'd forgotten that! And played well, too.

I have an audio file (I believe it was simply labeled Magazine 6) which stated that BF chose to end the divergent universe stories themselves because dw was coming back to tv and they wanted fans to check them out and felt that this whole divergent thing would have left them going 'whaa?'.

I'm reasonably sure that much later they said something along the lines of "we decided to because we were told to"

so, I can't recall Davros having anything to do with it. Rassilon was aware of the place and the medic went there because of his anti time contamination. They simply met Davros on the way back. Unless I missed something?

Unless I've missremembered the story? But I'm sure Dave Ross says something along the lines that the whole side-trip to Divergent Lands was down to him, hence why 8 can't remember Samson and Gemma? Or something.

Either way, it was a clumsy story to return them all back 'home'

Personally, I always avoid finding out anything to do with future shows - even avoid the trailers. I want that sense of excitement at the beginning of the show that simply isn't there is you know he's about to bump into a pepperpot around the next corner. But I have to say I've been disappointed by the 7 part 2 stories so far, and that sense of excitement just hasn't been there for me so far. But when a show runs for 50 years, with actors coming and going, writers coming and going and all the production staff coming and going I don''t expect to love every single episode - but like everyone I have my favourites which I can watch over and over again, and ones I'll watch once in a while when the mood takes me, and some I'll only watch when I'm in a "I must watch the whole season" mood. Some improve over time like a fine wine and some end up like a flat beer. That's just life, it's still my favourite show but I'm not blind to it's faults.

Gotta agree with the 2 parters they've done so far. They start off well enough and usually have a decent cliff-hanger ending to the first part, but the second part tends to fizzle out or the writer goes for the easiest out.

Hmmm...
I fear that the Dw production is resembling a sieve at the moment and all these are true.
I hope, heck i'd even find religion just so i could pray that these are untrue, but.....
I can kinda see the name reveal as justified as a 50 anniversary thing, and could excuse Muff for it in that context, but End of season??? is he trying for some kind of 2 parter thing for ep13-50ann?
and the whole other "leak".....
why would the guy who runs a show with such devoted (rabid) fans as this even contemplate doing something this awful?
so he thinks he's used to hate mail? if this is true then he's in for a shock!

No, it refers to the flat upstairs.

I'm always looking for way to give back to people here (knowing that my generosity encourages it in others, purely selfish), i make humble offerings

while I'm sure most of the uber-devotees here have these already I have some links

before there was LC, back through the dark days or "inter-tempum"* as I call it, even back to the old series...
there was a group of guys (with names like "Russell" and "Briggs") who cared little for copyright, convention or the law and made their own audio versions of the show.
That so many of them have gone on to work for the show on TV or at LC (even remaking some of these for LC) does make a nice context for those C+D's some have received.

*btw, what is the binomial classification for the species "TL"?

I seem to think that the back story went something along these lines: The medic, Samson, and Gemma (pre Charley) were traveling and they came across a ship. Davros was on board and he got the jump on them. He altered their memories and performed surgery on the tardey and sent the medic on his way with a method of tracing/spying on them. I forget why. I don't have time myself but there is a comprehensive write up of the audio if you care to check it out.
Terror Firma (http://www.drwhoguide.com/who_bf72.htm)

Also, it is possible that just because some characters will learn the medic's name, we may not hear it. It is more of a last episode secret.

Is there a PSD template for making these? Whar are the fonts used. I would like to have a go at them but not sure on the fonts!

There isn't a template that I'm aware of; I've done some of my own and recently found the full family for Casablanca (the font used for the titles). I can upload it if people want. There are some near-hit fonts called "aucasablanca" and "opticivet" which are free, but don't quite get the whole way.

No.

Isn't David Banks dead, btw? (And my sincere apologies if he's NOT!)

I am throughly enjoying Dardle Must Perish 3 eps in, I must say. Can't imagine it ever making good tv due to the demands such special effects would require, though!

i think Moffat is savvy enough to know that THAT outcome would p#ss a lot of fans off. For that reason alone I dont think he would do it. The fans like the real Doctors meeting (dont they?). Also it wouldnt explain the presence of Tennant's TARDIS on site. One way or another, the Doc 10 on site is definitely...er...Doc 10.

I suggested a variation on the theory last week; namely that the Zygons capture either 10 or 11 and in trying to clone them, they dont account for TL DNA (or some such waffle) and as a result the Zygon clone regresses through the Doc's regenerations - therefore giving fandom a brief glimpse of the past Doctors in a brief scene which would likely incorporate old footage/CGI etc.

I have said it before and I will say it again, I like to remember my Doctors as they were in their time periods. Colin, Peter and Tom have changed drastically from their 1980s era (understandably of course), whereas McCoy could still pull it off and McGann certainly could.

I've heard they are doing a 'Deep Space 9' and inserting the new actors into the old visuals, special effects to the fore.
