All that's missing the comics from TV Comic issues 1404-1415 and 1418. These are from 2 Fouth Medic Stories that are drawn over stories of the Third Medic (The Wanderers [1404-1408] & The Metal Eaters [1409-1415]) and one part from Moon Exploration [1418].

The Redrawn stories are difficult to hunt down as they obviously have the same names as the previous versions, and those are the versions you find when you search for these titles.

The monthlies? The last one lost my attention about half-way through Part Two and still remains unfinished.

Most of this years DW output (Main, 4 and DE) has been just a little underwhelming. Not terrible. Nothing really to get annoyed about plot holes, acting or production wise. Just ... run of the mill. Harmless. (Well, mostly harmless).

Looking forward, though, to the return of The Scouser month-after-next. Even though he could honestly do with a better actor, I love what they've done with the character.

I cannot be the only person who has thought these last few #5 stories have been entirely forgettable at best.
I think part of the problem might be that LC is over extending itself as of late. They have a limited pool of creative talent, and have been pushing so many new ranges over the last year or so, that they may be finding themselves stretched creatively. Undoubtedly they are putting most of their creative energy into the newer material, and as a result, their main bread and butter ranges - i.e. the Medic material - have begun to suffer. Of course it could just be that they've hit a wall creatively and this is the beginning of a downward trend in the quality of stories from the Medic ranges.

And now a question. does anyone know of a good, free, program for converting PDF into either cbr or cbz format that actually works? I've tried downloading a couple of differnet ones already and they've proven to be nothing but useless garbage.

cbr = cbz = zip = rar.

They are exactly the same file type.

Just retype the file extension with your keyboard from .rar to .cbr.

Meanwhile, EVERYTHING that converts PDF to something else will convert PDF to zip or rar.

Oh.

I use Calibre for such conversions.

In fairness to them they do go through lulls and, be honest, we here have very high expectations for the stories.

There's a handful of spin-offs I could quite happily never hear again (GLess, I'm look at you ...) but, really, even the worse of the Main Range (Scared Cat, I'm looking at you ...) I'd still listen to and find parts to enjoy.

The whole lot sets a very high bar, so even the crummy ones are still pretty good.

Apart from Gless.

Your milage may vary ...

Assuming the PDF isn't DRM'd in someway ...

Print to IMAGE SEQUENCE (jpeg for preference)

Compress the folder of images you've just created

Rename to .cbr or .cbz for rar'd or zip'd

John Constantine was a comic character who originated in the pages of Swamp Thing. The character proved popular enough to spin-off into his own series, the aforementioned Hellblazer. The character previously featured in a god awful movie called Constantine starring Keanu Reeves.

Also of note is that he was created by ALAN MOORE (famed author of many an awesome "comic" book: ie; V FOR VENDETTA, WATCHMEN, FROM HELL, LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN, PROMETHEA, 1963, etc...). Sadly, MOST have been bastardized and turned into horrendous films.

Anyway, John Constantine was initially based off of the looks of STING (the musician) and is a sorcerer (but more of a survivalist, noir type and not your typical Mandrake).
Lots of dealings with demons and trips to hell... and while he is on the side of the angels, is an utter bastard, so best not get too close. You might not make it out alive.

How in the HELL Keanu Reeves got the role in the 1st film means that SOMEONE sold their soul for sure.

I see what you did there. HA! But seriously, I think the only reason he got the role was because of his role in The Matrix...

(You'll notice I didn't mention the sequels and such. Well, the less said, the better. Then again, I always felt the whole Matrix series to be too overrated for it's own good, even though the original is still pretty solid in some respects.)

And to bring this particular thread of discussion back to topic, Alan Moore also wrote a number of stories for the Medic journals early in his career. For anyone who is interested they were Black Legacy, Business as Usual, Star Death, Black Sun Rising, and 4-D War.

Definitely been awhile. I really loved hearing Gareth David-Lloyd in the last one. I may give it a re-listen just because it's so great. Plus, I just love how they handled the legend of King Arthur, which has always been a fascinating bit of history for me ever since I saw the TV miniseries "Merlin" with Sam Neill as the title character.

I actually found myself a bit teary-eyed because of how well-handled Lionheart's death was. But I do agree that David Warner more than makes up for it. His presence can make the crappiest thing in the world tolerable, and this is coming from a guy who was first introduced to him by way of his role in the second live-action "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (or "HERO Turtles" if you're in the UK, if I remember right...) film. Also, Brian Blessed is always a hoot, in my opinion. He was even awesome on that ep of "QI" he did...

More likely Pall Mars lost interest, or wanted to use him elsewhere. He has reputation for re-using concepts (ie Pan-dah in the last Brendah book, etc), and I'm pretty sure he's used the idea elsewhere in a book or audio - maybe with a different name?

More likely Pall Mars lost interest, or wanted to use him elsewhere. He has reputation for re-using concepts (ie Pan-dah in the last Brendah book, etc), and I'm pretty sure he's used the idea elsewhere in a book or audio - maybe with a different name?

Odd thing is that despite enjoying it, I honestly can't remember that much about it. Abiding memory of 'trying to feel like Douglas Adams, but in a good way'.

To be relistened to again soon, I think.

If any one has that pg they'd be willing to share I'd be most grateful. I'm also needing the last part of niners first comic outing if,anyone has that to share. ank you for your time.

Dunno if this helps - someone posted this collection of links to old Medic strips a little while back.

Is it just me or, is this gonna be a super slow month for DWA stuff? Maybe it's just because I'm not interested in the CM boxsets. There's not really anything that compels me to listen to them. The characters from that story seemed neither interesting nor memorable. Comments?

August and September look packed with fun though!! 5th and 4th boxes, plus the new range!

Am I the only one bending their brain trying to figure out when the New Adventures of a Particular Archeologist takes place? All three major characters are from completely non negotiable stages in their own timelines, and considering one of them is on the Medic's home world, the Medic couldn't possibly be from before or after this point.

It takes place after the last Archeologist storyline, after McAce left the Medic and while the Medic was alone (just before the movie).

That is what I am sitting at at the moment anyway.

Hello, guys :) I'm new here, but some of you can know me from Medic music voyages thread.
I just found this beatiful place where I can also discover his comic exploits.
First things first: thanks kfrone for all your efforts, I never suspect I could ever read adventures of fourt first medics myself.

On the other hand: I'm searching for exploits of Medic 070910&11 from a long time, I seen some links to DWM here and there, but they were inactive.
Can anyone of you point a post where I can get them or create here new portals to them? I'll be very grateful :)

No, there's the main range stories from 2001-2007 and 2011, all of which have already been linked to, so it's just a case of looking through recent posts. :)

And no, AudioGo only produce Audiobooks, there are currently no full cast stories with the modern Doctors.

I think it's a bit of both. Certainly NBruggs at the end, but definitely could be Bleeche's Daveross at the start. The middle does sound like Bruggs' Time-Controller/Sec voice, though.

I can't decide how I feel about the pepperpots returning, but I do wish they'd kept it under wraps and really made it a proper surprise.

And by surprise you mean not telling us until the episode title appears, even though they'll film a "big reveal" scene later on in the episode? I hate how they do that in every pepperpot story, except for in the Series 2 2-part finale. That one WAS a surprise.

PS: I'm surprised no has commented on my profile pic since I started using it a few months ago.

I'd be more surprised if they didn't show up almost immediately, after what just happened. Their archenemy not only escapes certain doom (as certain as certain doom ever gets), but gets an extra 13 lives on top of that?!? And every day he stays alive now is a chance for you-know-where and you-know-who to get out of temporal lockup, with all that implies. If I was Dr. D, I'd be prepared to scour the universe for that damn phonebooth, blowing up everything and everyone in my way. Conquering the cosmos can wait - this is personal.

Thank you. I really shouldn't look at these.....but I can't help myself. My curiosity has gotten the better of me. (And before anyone says anything about spoiling the episodes remember that there is a great deal of difference between the written word and what we see on screen. All the subtle nuances that go into an actors portrayal of a character are missing when you see the dialogue on a flat page. That and the timing and delivery will undoubtedly be different than what you hear in your mind)

Would've though GB is uber annoying to begin with. Well maybe sometimes. ^

The EVENTS, TWISTS and PLOTS, however, will be exactly the same, and I DON'T want that spoiled for me. Shame some people do...

Roll on August - stuff the scripts.

I got hold of them last night but took a leaf out of CGCJ's book and decided to read them after the episode airs just in case this new start to the series really does hit the mark.

I didn't find the Smith era enjoyable by and large - Smith's performance was fine for me, but the stories and many of the other characters didn't really work. It was trying to be too clever and tried too hard to wrong-foot the audience at times. After S5, the music took a dip too.

I've had a peak at episodes 1 & 2. 1 looks pretty good, but 2 concerns me a bit, though if it's realised well onscreen it should be alright, I hope.

Though the whole lot of them feel like "The Medic Adventures" (You know, the Medic Periodical aimed at the young 'uns) plots, with a sequel to a popular DT story, a shrinking story in which they enter one of the pepper pots, a Robin Hood story (!!!) and really, really, awful episode titles.

There are heaps of other scripts to look at online, many of them from actual produced TV & movies. There's Buffy script books available, for one.

My words on the first script Prologue set-up where the new Doctor and Clara unexpectedly appearing. Comedian post regeneration hijinks leading into main credits. The villain appears. Clara agonizes over the Doctor's change. More hijinks ensue. More agonizing from Clara. Doctor discovers himself. Doctor and Clara walk into trap. Clara faces villain alone. Doctor appears. More hijinks. Doctor has showdown with villain. Doctor and Clara have heartfelt moment and reconciliation. End Credits. How's that for spoiler-free. But seriously, if the first script plays as well as it reads we are in for one helluva first episode to inaugurate the Capaldi era.

Without reading any scripts or any spoilers, I suspect the following things will happen;
The Medic will be fuzzy and disagreeable after his regen.
Clara wont like his change.
Some situation will occur where she discovers that even though he is different he is still the same at heart(s).
The conflict between companion and medic is resolved.

Now, I won't say that 20 years of watching the Medic has prepared me for this, or that it is always exactly the same everytime they switch actors - Just lucky-guessing.

Some days I wake up like that, not knowing where the hell I am.

I've been spending most of my recent YEARS like that I'm afraid.
Becoming more "medic-like" as I get on (co-workers call me "The Professor" due to my crammed-full-of-info brain. My wife calls me the same thing, but with "Absent-minded" in front because crammed brain is too crammed).

ANY CHANCE of a PM of that info (I'm still learning the ropes here myself) OR (in case there are others like us) a "spoiler" hidden bit on info?

Thanks!

Does anyone know why the flipping heck The Web Planet costs so bleeping mush both new AND used?

If they were giving it away, they'd be ripping you off!

Cheers Dwst4. Much appreciated.

Here in Australia it's not much @ JB Hi-Fi. Don't know why they'd want to charge so much, it's not as if it's a good story!

Stateside it's just over 100 new and about 90 used.

Yeah... I may have called for the destruction of all copies. It's the only story I flat out hate. My bad.

That & Planet Of Giants are the only stories I can't get through. I seem to recall the Target novel was insanely tedious, as well.

The Gifs captured point to a yes and the file size is consistent with the the other leak, so I'm willing to bet it's a yes.

i found the part of the episodes where he was not in it rather bland.... but Capaldi is going to be amazing and he has the 11 medic seal of Approval --the first time i felt Jenny Strax and Vastra were not needed...like the " Time's Children" of 10nant i felt that they were an 11medic thing

Vastra gets on my kit, anyway. She's The Doctors no.1 arse-licker & she's so proud of it! She's always lording it over the 'lesser' companions, rubbing her superior knowledge in their faces with an overbearing air of smugness. That's the impression I get, anyway...

The Web Planet is the only story that always makes me fall asleep when I put it on. To this day I have never seen it all. Not that that bothers me though.

I don't agree with this. You need the reassuringly familiar for the audience to latch onto because otherwise all you've got are an erratic new medic and a shell shocked Clara. Plus there was one Strax line that made me laugh out loud.

Yeah, but 11th hour wasn't an erratic new medic with shell-shocked companion.
It was just quirky new medic meets new people.

Could the story have been better/different without them? Perhaps. But they certainly help reassure Clara, and therefore the audience, that PC is THE Doctor. Especially important, I expect, for younger viewers who are wondering who this old (relatively speaking) man is.

You really have to admire what they tried to do with the special effects and the costumes, though.

Going back today, with modern effects and prosthetics, could be a very interesting story. (And hopefully one that didn't have two more parts, IIRC, bunged in at the last minute!)

I've not seen it so I don't know but it seems odd to me that Clara would need reassurance. Isn't she the companion who's already met 12 previous Doctors & traveled the length of his personal time stream & back again. You'd think she'd cope with regeneration better than anyone.

Cheers Ironhead.
