Thank you soooooooooooooooooooooo much for The M-a-c-r-a T-e-r-r-o-r with new audio. I've just listened to the first few scenes and it is a vast improvement over the original release.

I do have a question though, were there any interviews with Anneke Wills on the CD?

Not with the Macra CD per se, but the boxset has a bonus disc included with the Evil Of The Daleks, which has an interview with Anneka and Frazer. You want it?

Saw on Facebook earlier, but the post has gone now, that BF are no longer doing 256 downloads and will be just doing 192. Anyone heard/seen anything about this?

EDIT TO ADD - It's gone now. Wonder what the files were. Two 3mb files with .viv extensions. Anyone d/l it out of curiosity?

Red Skies, the latest Large Conclusions & The Senorites [as well as some interesting odds and sods], will be put up soon, I have them, and will pass them on to people to put them up :), my computer still wont recognise my mediafire account... :( [I don't need advise, it would work, if it would accept....I just need a cyberfoot, to kick this PC in the n*ts...... or the idiots who created Windows Vista...]

I did notice that, BF have reduced their download-ables to 192 bip rate... they also haven't fixed many other faults with their site, and have a few other new problems as well, they have given no reason for the change, during the last 'sale' they charged for 256 and uploaded 320......

Nobber
05-12-2012, 02:43 PM
If they have downgraded the bitrate for downloads without telling anyone they could be in a heck of a lot of trouble. It's perfectly OK for them to upgrade the rate, but if you've paid for a 256k download you damn well expect a 256k download. I'm sure the Sale Of Goods and Distance Selling Acts cover such things. And I'm sure the Trading Standards Office would be pretty interested, too.

I think I've just done something for the first time ever this evening ... half way through, if that, listening to the latest monthly and realised that I'd not been paying any real attention what-so-ever. Turned it off. No plan to try to listen again in the near future. Sure that's the first time I've had that reaction to one of the monthlies.

Went off the CCs a long time back, and a few regulars where it's taken me a day or two to listen properly, but never had a "Oh, I don't care!" reaction before. Very odd.

The Scarfed One was quite good, though. Dunno quite what it was (perhaps Tom's performance?) but it felt very much like the AudioGo stories to me. Half expected Mrs Wisbey to pop-up!

I have that reaction sometimes. There are monthlies that ive started a few times but they just dont grab my attention. The run with Five and Nyssa from a few years back completely fails to entertain me. I don't know why, I usually quite like Five, but those stories just don't work for me. The one I really had an 'I don't care reaction' to was the one with Davros, Six and Flip. Not planning to go back to that one any time soon.

I had that reactions to quite a few of the earliest ones. I still have no idea what the second story was about. Hasn't happened in a while but I'm not current either so.. The real interesting part is I continued to listen despite the fact I wasn't thrilled with them and now I love them. If I had been paying for them from the get go I most likely would have quit. Now I own the first fifty. My free previews have benefited BF.

I also have a problem with ShareOnline, which means I can't get any download from it. I just get error messages. I've tried in several different browsers, so it's a site problem, not browser related. This seems to affect about 30% of people (as you can see above, it seem Razza had no problem...)

I think they've all been a bit 'so-so' lately - a bit of slump period for Big Finish. I certainly don't think the Tom Baker ones are anything to shout about. I'm glad he's on board & I have high hopes for the future but it's definitely not 'Saturday tea-time in 1977 all over again'!

Nobber
05-17-2012, 01:19 AM
I think the last release that really grabbed me was "A Death In The Family" and that's about, what, a year ago?

But it's hard to pin down exactly where they've 'slumped', though, when you think about it. Retreading old-ground, perhaps? Mary Shelly was just Charley, Flip is just Lucie (without the charm) and Nyssa+Tegan+Turlough is just reproducing Over-Crowded-Tardis syndrome again.

A cure? I think it's time that 5,6 and 8 were given a few proper 'Solo' outings like McCoy has had. Give them a chance to go off in different directions and not have to react to/with their regular companions) for a while.

Just, oh, I dunno, stop playing it so safe. If you see what I mean.

By which I think I mean (and, look, I appreciate I'm probably not going to word this very well!) - we need the lunacy of the idea behind the production of 'Scherzo' ("So. Right .. just two people? Over an hour and a half? Talking bollix for most of it?") balanced against the 'safety' of "Energy Of The Daleks" ("So. Right ... The earth is invaded by the Daleks. Again? How many times is that this year?")

Or something like that.

As for Four ... To be fair I'm giving his first lot of BF stories a bit of carte-blanche. It's great to have him on board, but it's going to be interesting to see how they progress. I doubt we'll ever really get him back to how he played the part then even if the story placement suggests a certain style, but he does seem to be enjoying himself so far which helps balance things out and you can tell that (so far) co-stars like Louise Jameson help bring him back 'to era'.

I'm not up to date with the monthlies just yet but I have to agree that the scarfed one's stories haven't been terribly gripping. They're not bad by any means but I just can't seem to want to wait breathlessly for them. When bolt went down, I would have torn a person to shreds for a klondike bar to enjoy while I listened to the last four in the single tv appearance one. And it would have been worth it. We're on a cliffhanger with our scarfed friend and his old enemy and I'm not even sure what he's hoping for. On the other hand, it might help to listen to them as a group. Who knows.

I think the problem with the Fourth Doctor series is that Briggs has greedily hogged almost all the script assignments. He's an excellent CO, a not bad director, and a passable actor (just), but as a writer he's no better than the hundreds of spotty fan boys who turn out endless reams of over reverential who-wank in their squalid bed sits. Contrast and compare the quality of the Fourth Doctor Lost Stories Box Set with the lamentable standards of the 4DAs...

Have to agree with the thoughts on the Scarfed ones stories I am afraid, really not grabbing me by the throat and getting me to listen. I usually sit here with rapt attention to most audios but these are on with headphones and I am going through all my forums and not really taking it in, such is my feeling about these. Still I am a completist and will soldier one.

Let's be honest here. One of the reasons that Tom's Lost ones were so good was because they were much longer, and had more time to develop the stories. Tom needs more epic, sweeping stories like those, which he's just not getting in the short single CD format they're giving his stories. That said, I liked the Boudica one a lot. (Of course, it's good. Dorney wrote it!) I'll reserve judgement on the current one until part 2 comes out next month.

One interesting thing I observed about the Dalek one. Did anyone else notice how much more Tom acts like his over-the-top Audiogo Doctor in that one? It was the first one they did, and they clearly hadn't reigned him in enough at that point. It's partularly striking, since it comes after so many other stories where they'd reigned him in quite a bit.

As for Nick, he's a fine writer, and has produced lots of good stuff, particularly the Dalek Empire stuff and the last season of the EDA's. But he's clearly overworked. But he did actually only write two of the 6. Alan Barnes did two, as well. He's doing the first three from next season, but those seem to be one story, judging from the very similar cast listings. (Although, strangely, Leeson/K-9 isn't listed for the third part.) I know that the EDA's are his baby, but I hope he's not writing all of the stories in it. And if he can't find the time to do the Charlie series, let someone else do it!

I think he totally trashed the final 8th Doctor series, squandering all the good work set up in the first two.

Writing for Tom has been his fan boy dream for so long, but I think he's just too starry-eyed to pull it off. He has so many talented writers and directors at his disposal that he can afford to trust them. Sure; write one, direct one, compose the music for another, but don't do all three!

Don't get me wrong - I like a lot of his work, but some times I miss the maturity of the Garry Russell era...

Apart from the english warrior queen one, I've been disappointed by the teeth&curls Series so far - they've really been very so so. And I think the single disc format is part of the problem.
It's been great hearing him and the leather leotarded friend together again - but that's all that's been holding my interest for most of them.

The two forgotten tales that came out at the start worked much better.

Arguably the EDA's were the baby of Barnaby Edwards. He did most of the direction and casting for them.

Don't find Briggs' writing too bad on the whole, but he does make some massive missteps at times - the whole thing with 'the other woman' in The Tardis that had been incorporeal until she swapped bodies with Charley was a real WTF!!!?? bit of writing. Great to give Fisher something different to do, but the logic behind it all was awful. But I agree that he does tend to spread himself too thin at times - and, sorry, when I hear the regularly trotted out "we're a small company with few staff" my general reaction is one of "well, stop doing so much!"

As I said earlier, they've a free pass from me for the first lot of TB stories but, yeah, I want to hear him reigned back (as said up thread the Budica one is a fine example of a 'restrained' performance) and definitely get him into the 2CD format. Gve him stories that have time to breathe and, arguably, it's not really 'Tea Time, 1977' if we've not got four part stories!

(And as an aside - If they're always too busy to do the Charley spin-off then I say ... Good! ... despite the massive flaw in her exit story I mentioned earlier she had such an emotional send-off that sometimes I think it's better NOT to know what happens to her. She had a bitter-sweet exit and I think doing any more would crap all over that.)

(Which reminds me how much I wanted to throttle the areas of fan-dom that demand that Lucie be saved. Bit of a insult to the sacrifice of the character, really.)

I think he totally trashed the final 8th Doctor series, squandering all the good work set up in the first two.

I'm curious, but how so? IMHO the last season was superb. Bringing in a new companion for a while and the return of The Monk were excellent ideas. And the ending (yeah, despite the over-use of Daleks invading Earth. Again. For the 29th time that year.) was incredibly moving.

The only change I'd've made would have the whole story come full circle and have the exit story set on Red Rocket Rising.

(Which would have meant loosing Susan, mind you. But would have also meant no McGann Jr. Which wouldn't have been a bad thing. I'll grant you that. He can't act.)

Don't get me wrong - I like a lot of his work, but some times I miss the maturity of the Garry Russell era...

I think we could argue of the use of the word 'maturity', but he certainly put something into the mix that's missing at the moment.

Do you think this could tie up the original series with the new one
The 8th Doctor goes to avenge Lucie's and his grandson's death by starting the Time War with the Daleks resulting in his regeneration into the 9th ?

The stripey one does need some full length stories but I fear that we'll continue in this format until people either stop buying them or nature give us the big middle finger, God forbid, and we lose the opportunity forever.

My only problem with how the EDA's ended was we meet Alex, find out that he's far less than a Time Lord, and then he's gone. Mind you, I firmly believe that the multiple tragedies that the series end on are what make it so great. I'm biting at the chomp for what comes next and I'll even be able to afford it which is the icing on the cake for me. Aww, now I want cake.

Given that to date BF aren't allowed to go anywhere near the The Time War (apart from the most obtuse references) I'd be surprised. And if it was you think they'd be advertising the living day lights out of it?

And four CDs just seems too short to do such a story?

I dunno. But not holding my breathe for it to be directly Time War/Regeneration related.

Or Tom, like Paul, turns round and says "I want a change of pace/style/direction or I'm outta here" (which is. supposedly, what PMcG said as he was getting bored of the stories (not the company or The Doctor, btw) and needed some 'fresh air' as it were.

Odd choice, though, to spin them off into these specials and not keep the travels as part of the main J&L range. Agreed. I think it's down to the story format they've been in. In the single CD stories they've not really had the chance to explore her reactions properly - possibly why there's so much put on PMcG's shoulders on the anger front as he's doing it for both of them, if you see what I mean.

Which actually reminds me of something - surprised that there's never been a fan-cry for having a Susan spin-off to cover the time between her leaving and being re-united. (Not sure I'd want to hear it, to be honest, but still surprised it's never been called for.)

Agreed! I was also appalled at the The Doctor's complete lack of sympathy & support for Susan's loss (which, to be fair, has got to be greater than his own); not even bothering to stick around for the funeral! Having said that, I also agree that the self-centred agonizing he did was brilliantly performed & the series overall was spot-on!

Don't get me wrong - I like a lot of his work, but some times I miss the maturity of the Garry Russell era...

He's knocked out some good tales but one very clumsy & amateurish plot device he relies on far too often is trying to prolong the suspense by simply not getting to the point. Dalek Empire is a classic example, full of dying men with plot-twisting information who spend their last moments explaining everything that's happened to them that week & the entire story of how they found out what they know & how much trouble they had getting back to tell someone & not just getting on with it & revealing the name of the traitor (or whatever)!

---------- Post added at 02:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:46 PM ----------

On the subject of clumsy writing, another bad habit that Big Finish has slipped back into lately (that they had previously grown out of) is the use of clumsy conversations where someone describes everything that's happening in front of them & everything they are doing to someone who's standing right next to them! I always thought that proving that wasn't necessary is what sets Big Finish apart from all other audio productions (including the BBC)!

And that's the end of my moaning about Big Finish (who I really do love) for tonight.

Just a note about the Sixy specials with J&L. They're doing this as an experiment to see if they can sell enough from people like us who don't always pay for them if they charge a significantly cheaper rate to still turn a profit. Let's show our support for the company and for lower pricing by at the very least buying these two releases from them. After all, theyre just one pound/dollar/euro each for the downloads. Surely all of us will get at least that much worth of enjoyment from them, right? Surely all of us can afford that little bit? And most importantly, we'll be making a strong vote for lower prices.

Even if you've never bought anything from Big Finish, could we all just agree to support them at least this one time, to thank them for all of the great stories (and yes, some mediocre ones) that they've given us.

In fact, I think it would be appropriate if people agreed not to post these two stories on here, or other outlets.

Same! I loved the ending of the EDA's and I immediately thought that it was a very plausible way in which the Doctor goes from the nice victorian traveller to the destroyer of worlds and the last of the time lords. Although the audio's probably won't touch on the subject of the Time War, I'm dying to find out what happened to the Doctor. In other words: I'm definitely getting the 8th Doctor set, and I'm paying for it too.

He'd have been pretty p*ssed off, that's for sure. Especially if he found out AFTER the Daleks had killed Lucie and Alex. The mood he was in then *shivers*... He'd probably break every single law of time, travel back to Skaro, tell his fourth self that he has the right, take the wires out of his hands and connect them himself. :P

The story would also be interesting from the Daleks' point of view. Imagine their reaction when they find out their Angel of Mercy and most important slave is the Doctor's granddaughter...

okay, let's see if I got this business right...
any news from the last CCs - "The Man who walks around a lot" and "The Puzzle Kerfuffle"?

(this is hard, particularly for a non-native speaker. It took me an embarrassing long time to figure out largest conclusions, etc)[COLOR="Silver"]

wow, thanks. You need to put spoiler in angular brackets, then write what you want to go behind the spoiler, then at the end, start with an angular bracket, followed by /m write spoiler and then close the bracket.

also many thanks to the last poster

Finally finished the latest cricket-lover one. OMFG but that was just bloody awful. Even in the last few minutes as Tegan said

something about kicking some bloke into space

I had no idea who she was talking about and when it had happened! Nothing in this story actually stuck as it passed into my ears (and, presumably, out my nose or something!)

And it didn't help that whoever did the sound/music kept using something very similar to the BF 'Cyberman Trumpet' riff so I kept expecting a bit Cyber-reveal. Or something.

But on the whole - AWFUL!!

SQUARE brackets you mean.

Like this where an 'O' represents an Open Square Bracket and 'C' a Close Square Bracket

Yep, as Nobber said, square brackets, but as an extra useful bit of BBCode, you can also use either php or html tags to output BBCode without interpreting it, great for examples like these ;)

This is before the spoiler box
Spoiler Goes Here
This is after the spoiler box

and to output the box above, I typed:

This is before the spoiler box
Spoiler Goes Here
This is after the spoiler box

It was written by children as part of a competition so obviously its a little silly!

BBcode for SPOILER has to be entered manually, there is no button.

this is my hidden text

and it will look like this is my hidden text

even better is to use it with the CODE Tag

this is my hidden "please don't kill my links" text

this is my hidden "please don't kill my links" text

What this does is add a 100 character buffer that hides the content from displaying during search engine previews, avoids the killer-bots!

for those of you interested in how to write demonstration BBcode see the NOPARSE Tag at:
BB Code List - Final Fantasy Shrine Forums (http://forums.ffshrine.org/misc.php?do=bbcode)

Another BF Special Offer...As it's about to be played on BBC Radio 4 (in the UK), 'The Klein Trilogy' is going cheap for this weekend only (26th and 27th May 2012). For those who don't know what this trilogy is, it's three consecutive DW Main series audios:
#130: A Thousand Tiny Wings
#131: Klein’s Story/Survival of the Fittest
#132: The Architects of History

For this weekend, the CD's will be 9 each (usual price: 14.99), or 25 for all three.

Obviously, anyone in the UK can just listen to the abridged versions on BBC Radio 4, but if you like having the CD's, this is an opportunity to get them at a reduced price.

More info about the offer here:
http://bigfinish.com/news/v/special-klein-offer
It's also worth noting that the first in this trilogy, A Thousand Tiny Wings, also comes with the 11th part of the bonus episodes which made up the 'Three Companions' stories, which can be found here (http://www.demonoid.ph/files/details/2916701/). The second in the trilogy has the 12th and final part.

If you are after a particular comic, there are usually ways to get them. I don't know of any website that lists comics, but I know of a source (The 'Comic Shack' hub on the DC++ network) from which I can obtain almost any comic ever produced. If you're not already on there, I can either grab items for you, or talk you through how to get on there.
I really only use it to grab the 0day releases of the IDW Doctor Who comics...

Does any one know of a website with a comprehensive listing of the various comics released since 63' ?I don't see a list for all the comics. There are 3 (or more) types; comic strips, comic books, graphic novels.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Who_spin-offs#Comics lists titles that Doctor Who comics have appeared in.

Doctor Who Collector's Wiki has 145 comics listed.
http://doctor-who-collectors.wikia.com/wiki/Doctor_Who_Collectors_Wiki
there's six pages of comics listed, including some publisher's not listed at Wikipedia;
http://doctor-who-collectors.wikia.com/wiki/index.php?search=comics&fulltext=Search

...and webcomics - Big Finish did one years ago.

Well... you type with one hand, and drink with the other... then, read back the slightly fuzzy words and remove any offensive or 'sweary' ones :) [oh and never send PM's to persons who may have upset you.... you are LIKELY to upset them :):) ]

Hope the head survived :)

Update: April, 2012

Yes, it's been quite some time since the last Winterwind Doctor Who Webcomic. These things happen. Several stories are planned. They just haven't materialised yet...

Can you fine gents help me with finding "The Not-Parents of Seth", please?

I'm talking about LS 3.3. I hope this code business worked.
I looked and it was posted here in this thread, but the link has long since died

And here we go! Part II was also added. All credit to the original uploader who posted it here first time round. (and to BF ofc for making this)

Seth's not parents part I (http://www.2shared.com/file/bleVg2DH/sethsoffspringpart1.html)
Seth's not parents part II (http://www.2shared.com/file/XJvgBQJM/sethsoffspringpart2.html)

Oh and I had a question, it has nothing to do with Doctor Who (apart from that it is about sf), but I thought I'd ask anyway. The question is: what is the best order to view Star Wars in? I haven't seen any of the films yet (I know, I know, shame on me...), but I know about the whole 'IV,V and VI are actually the first films' business. No spoilers please, just a nice answer will do :)

you're asking for personal opinions & they can be so subjective

for me watch the original Trilogy first, just my opinion, but I think they're the better stories

I think it's always interesting to see how people's views tend to differ (or tend to be similar) on questions such as these. Thing is, I've got dvds for IV and V but I miss the others (picked them up today at some jumble sale (?) for 1€ each). They didn't have the others but I thought I'd take these with me to have something to remind me to watch it. I'm pretty sure I can borrow the others from friends if I ask nicely. Does it make any difference story wise if you watch the originals first? As in, do things make more sense or is it just the same? Sorry, I'm really an absolute newbie when it comes to Star Wars...

No, IMHO either trilogy can be watched on their own.

Dont forget these 6 stories did not originally have any storyline developed in the background that George Lucas was working to. He had an idea of the first trilogy & minor background stories for the characters but that was it. The rest developed over time.

To be honest I'm not a great Star Wars fan. But I loved the 1st two films- I saw the original one before it was called 'A New Hope' (shows you how old I am - LOL)
there will be bigger Star Wars buffs on this site that will give you better advice or background info

Enjoy them anyway.

Star Wars is an American epic space opera film series created by George Lucas. When originally released, each of the Star Wars movies was a stand-alone movie.

The commercial success of Star Wars gave George Lucas the opportunity to alter the original films. The newer versions make heavy use of computer-generated imagery (CGI). Other changes enhanced the cohesiveness of the films and eliminated continuity errors between the films. The changes are controversial. For a partial list of changes see: List of changes in Star Wars re-releases - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_changes_in_Star_Wars_re-releases)

Beginning in January of this year, the entire series is being released in 3-D. The Phantom Menace 3D version pushed sales for that movie to over $1-billion, the first of any movie to reach that mark.

Watch 1977's Star Wars (a.k.a. A New Hope), 1980's The Empire Strikes Back (almost everybody's favorite, including mine) and 1983's Return of the Jedi first. Try to track down the original unaltered versions if possible. They were released in the silver packaging some years ago. The altered versions are really different/purists are pretty much horrified by the altered versions (Han fired the *only* shot at Greedo!).

THEN, if you have a strong stomach, watch the prequels from 1999, 2002 and 2005. For one thing, there are big revelations in Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi that will be completely nullified if you watch the prequels first, because the prequels assumed everybody already knew the original trilogy's most famous plot twists. And if you don't know them (even people who have never seen any of the movies know them), you've been completely been in the dark about pop-culture for the last 30+ years. The acting and dialog in the prequels will also scare you to pieces if you watch them first--sadly, there is no Harrison Ford around to mess with George Lucas' dialog on the spot. LOL. Sadly, George has pretty thoroughly lost it (ever since he started making films for his kids).

Speaking of good ol' Harrison Ford and George Lucas, make sure to watch American Graffiti (1973), Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989). These are must-sees that go beside the original Star Wars trilogy as its historical counterparts involving the same people and a lot of production history.

American Graffiti: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBI0p5OGlDw&hd=1 / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2OoxzYqgNY&hd=1
Star Wars: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgNWoBQ0hHI&hd=1
Raiders of the Lost Ark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7THge74MSpQ&hd=1
Temple of Doom: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2LNm_AkCe0&hd=1
Last Crusade: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7TaY8HWYd8&hd=1

You may notice that Mark Hamill's (Luke Skywalker) face completely got reconstructed after his car crash (he went off the side of a cliff into a ravene) between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. You can see the scarring and his nose having completely changed shape (his original mashed nose was shaved off and rebuilt with cartilage from his ears). Another very injured actor is Harrison Ford, whose knee was run over by that WWII plane in Raiders of the Lost Ark, his back was messed up picking up the thuggee guard during Temple of Doom and his front teeth have all been false since a rifle butt knocked them out on the set of Gunsmoke in the '60s. And of course, the famous chin scar has had numerous films of his give explanations for it, most famously in the River Phoenix scene in Last Crusade.

If you're looking for a Doctor Who reason to watch these movies, you should quickly notice Peter Cushing (Dalek movies) as Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars, Leslie Schofield also as an Imperial officer (The War Games, The Face of Evil), Julian Glover (The Crusade, City of Death) as the main villain (Walter Donovan) in Last Crusade and as the AT-AT driver in Empire Strikes Back at the Battle of Hoth, Garrick Hagon as Biggs Darklighter (The Mutants) and bunches of others. Recently, Paul Freeman (Ren Belloq in Raiders of the Lost Ark) was in one of The Lost Stories with Tom Baker, making him the second main Indiana Jones villain to act with Tom Baker (too bad Amrish Puri isn't around!). Famous British thesps like Sean Connery and John Rhys-Davies are also in the Indy films and Star Wars is also full of British actors like Alec Guinness and Ian McDiarmid. You may recognize that Dragonfire completely copies Toht's death from Raiders. ;)

Classic films that I'm shocked you haven't seen. If you've been to Disneyland, they have Star Tours (Star Wars motion simulator) and Temple of the Forbidden Eye (one of the best rides in any Disney park). Disney World has the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular instead of a ride. Disneyland Paris/Euro Disney has an Indy mine cart rollercoaster. George Lucas has gotten two of his properties into Disney theme parks, so they are certainly assumed that everyone is familiar with them, young and old alike.

'Nile',

You forgot the other links.... Darth Vader is a Martian Warlord from the Ice Warriors, The Storm Troopers are Cybermen, as is C3PO, and of course the biggie, R2D2 is a Dalek.....
Lucas' "soap opera" also included sueing BattleStar Galatica for ripping off HIS ideas.....a lawsuit he lost... and
Burnie, Lucas claims, the 1978 [christmas special] 'Christmas on a Wookie Planet', does not exist, even though the internet is full of examples of it :), and he will SUE anyone who disagrees with him.... the man is a total muppet.

Of course the closest link between Star Wars and Doctor Who, is the fact that most of it was made in the UK and it was full of English actors, who had also been in the DW TV series'

There are fan made audios which have crossover adventures of Star Trek in the Star Wars Galaxy and Doctor Who appearing there as well.....

David Prowse (Darth Vader's stunt body) was also the minotaur in The Time Monster. Oh, and Jeremy Bulloch (The Time Warrior) was the original (and real) Boba Fett.

I've watched the entirety of the Star Wars Holiday Special. Trust me, I'm very aware of its existence, complete with Wookiee porn, Jefferson Starship, Bea Arthur song-and-dancing in the Mos Eisley Cantina and Carrie Fisher's stoned singing (do look up Carrie's SNL appearance where she is part of a Frankie & Annette sketch in total Princess Leia costume, then revealing a gold bikini--it was John Belushi who introduced her to drugs and she had relationships with both Harrison Ford and Dan Aykroyd--hence The Empire Strikes Back including a Han/Leia romance angle and Carrie's bit as Jake's explosives-loving ex in The Blues Brothers). Look up Harrison Ford's reaction to his Holiday Special segment being shown on Conan O'Brien. LMAO.

Speaking of Aykroyd, he cameos very briefly at the start of Temple of Doom (right before Indy, Willie and Short Round board the plane in China). Aykroyd and Belushi were trying to get Carrie to give them in-costume monster cameos in Return of the Jedi (of course, Belushi died).

Nerds may also be aware that Mark Hamill was the voice of the Joker for the animated Batman series.

Crossover Adventure Productions

The Doctor Who Crossover Adventures are a series of audio plays created by Australian fan Aron Toman. The Crossovers are stories that cross-over into other worlds; for example, Doctor Who meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Doctor Who meets the Muppets. In the earliest Crossover Adventures, genuine audio clips from the non-Who shows were used alongside newly-recorded audio of the Doctor and his companions. As time went on, the series became more ambitious and all dialogue was recorded by Toman and the actors he recruited online.

Watch 1977's Star Wars (a.k.a. A New Hope), 1980's The Empire Strikes Back (almost everybody's favorite, including mine) and 1983's Return of the Jedi first. Try to track down the original unaltered versions if possible.

Sadly, since Youtube has the annoying habit of removing random parts of films, I ended up watching a sort of mixed version of IV, alternating between HD newly edited ones and an unedited version. I managed to stick mostly to the unedited one though, and I really rather enjoyed it!

You will not believe this, but I did not know ANY of the plot twists until I went online and the youtube comments spoiled them. Seriously. I don't know how I managed to remain so completely ignorant, but I did. Given that I've only been alive for 18 years, I can be somewhat forgiven, can't I?

You may notice that Mark Hamill's (Luke Skywalker) face completely got reconstructed after his car crash (he went off the side of a cliff into a ravene) between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back.

Yes I was wondering about that. Thanks for solving the mystery :)

You may be shocked, I understand. Everyone I know kind of assumed I had seen Star Wars and when I told them I didn't, well, things got all 'OHMIGUWD' if you know what I mean.

Oh and I have also never been to Disneyland. Not even the one in Paris. Yep, I spent my childhood under a rock somewhere in the Himalayas playing with ants and collecting twigs to sleep on. And if I was very, very lucky, I got to keep some of the ants as pets.

I just watched the Star Wars movies again on Spike TV this past weekend.....I just can't stop watching them

Now have you seen American Graffiti and Indiana Jones (first three films only)?

Because those are a definite must if you like Star Wars, as they had a somewhat tangled production history (mainly the fact that Harrison Ford couldn't even get screen-tested because he was in American Graffiti, a small role he only got because he built George's kitchen cabinets--he was building a door in his carpentry days for Srgio Mendes' studio and tested a bunch of Lukes and Leias to help George out... and then he couldn't test for Indiana Jones because of both of those and Tom Selleck was originally cast in the role, but he was contractually obligated for Magnum P.I., thus Spielberg suggested Harrison, despite George not wanting to use him over and over again). ;)

Ah, you're 18 (though I watched all these films as a child). I'm sure there are a bunch of classics people would probably be shocked to hear I haven't seen (though I do watch a lot of old movies). Jaws, for example, I won't watch because I don't like sharks. Haven't seen The Godfather, King Kong (any of them beyond the famous clips), Godzilla or the original Planet of the Apes either. It was mere years ago that I finally got to see bits of Casablanca and Gone With the Wind. Though the fact that you hadn't been spoiled about Luke's (and Leia's) parentage is stunning! You really haven't heard people quote "No, I am your father!" (or rather they misquote it as "Luke, I am your father!")? Funny thing to do now that you've seen the trilogy is go back and watch the first two, because you'll see Luke having the hots for his twin sister and she snogs him to make Han jealous. LOL.

I'm in San Diego, so Disneyland is just a 1 1/2 hours drive to Anaheim. Speaking of San Diego, Some Like It Hot (with Marilyn Monroe) was filmed at the Hotel del Coronado here, which is my favorite place in the whole city. And even that I didn't see until a few years ago... and I've been obsessed with the Del since childhood!

Heh, I was quite the fan years ago, but I fell out of the fandom after getting irritated with the fan culture. I still love those movies, though.

Speaking of Indy, say what you will about George Lucas (I loathe his recent output, too), but the Young Indy Chronicles (a television series) from the early '90s are really underrated, even if they're more focused on being educational than adventurous. This is pretty much the last thing Lucas did that I like.

Most obvious copies from Lucas properties by DW:
* Wilf's Han & Luke-style gunning at the missiles in The End of Time.
* the baddie in Dragonfire does a Toht-style face-melt.
* use of a spacecraft coming in over the camera (wasn't it in a later Tom Baker story?) like the blockade runner.
* Ten gets his hand cut off during a fight and the hand falls a great distance, similar to Luke's on Bespin (Star Wars is famous for hands getting cut off, starting with the Cantina scene).
* the Time Walkers on the cover of The Forbidden Time look remarkably like AT-ATs.

Did I say 18? *checks back* yes I did. I'm 17, sorry. Unfortunate typo brought about by wishful thinking I suppose :P Does that make me the youngest thread member?

Though the fact that you hadn't been spoiled about Luke's (and Leia's) parentage is stunning! You really haven't heard people quote "No, I am your father!" (or rather they misquote it as "Luke, I am your father!")? Funny thing to do now that you've seen the trilogy is go back and watch the first two, because you'll see Luke having the hots for his twin sister and she snogs him to make Han jealous. LOL.

I've heard people say it plenty of times, I've just never connected it to an actual story. I also didn't know WHO said it, which makes all the difference... Honestly, before I started watching IV I hadn't the faintest idea what it was about. I knew absolutely nothing. I knew it was sci-fi, which was a reason I would probably enjoy it, and I knew it was something everyone (apart from me) had seen, which was also a reason I watched it.

Dont apologise for the 'Star Wars thing'' - You're most welcome

It may be a Doctor Who thread but if you can be bothered to read back through the posts, many of us go off topic because we're looking for help & advice - and this has always been a good place to ask, rather than start a whole new post- loads of us are happy to help with whatever we can- The interaction is a good thing

This is why I love this thread- there's no obsession with putting things in boxes (other than spoiler boxes). Probably also the reason why this thread has lasted for 119 pages.

Most obvious copies from Lucas properties by DW:
* Wilf's Han & Luke-style gunning at the missiles in The End of Time.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw them doing it in Star Wars!

It has arrived.
Oh thanks a billion! You can be sure I'll read this. I love TNG, I got all 7 boxsets for christmas and have slowly been working my way through them ever since.

Just read the comic, I wasn't expecting it to end so soon! I'm used to the long kind of comic. Having said that, I think the story so far looks promising. I loved the ST part, seeing the Borg and Cybermen together was fantastic. I don't see why the Doctor couldn't land straight in San Francisco though, perhaps that will be explained later. Oh and the art is pretty impressive...

Well, since I've only managed to make one lone contribution to the thread, I've avoided making any requests. But there's something I'd absolutely love to get my hands on that's managed to elude me completely, and I was hoping someone could help out. It's the soundtrack for the third incarnation's third serial, "Embajadores de la Muerte." Particularly that wonderful, atmospheric electronic theme for the, uh, astro-men. I'd be much obliged.

For the record, I had no problem getting it from the BF site. But I'd imagine that they got quite overwhelmed when everyone started downloading it at the same time, especially after it started showing up on some sites, like the one I linked to. After that, it started showing up in Google searches, which seems to be when everyone started having trouble with it. Note that when I got it, it was running just fine and came in quickly. (And I'm in the US, so it didn't have anything to do with the location.) Ironically, this might have been one example where the torrent community might have actually helped the copyright holder, since it took some of the load off of their servers!

That said, I don't think that you can blame BF for this. This download was only intended for people who bought the magazine, not for anyone who used google or various other sites (like this one!) I'd imagine that google has a significantly higher readership than the magazine! They probably didn't expect to be as overwhelmed with download requests as they were, although, they probably should have guessed that this would happen. And you certainly can't blame them for having slow download speeds and bad connections on the story that you got for free, especially if you didn't buy the magazine whose readership it was meant for. Give them a break on this one, ok?

I've done a little research on your behalf... ;)

As far as the BEEB magazine goes, I can't find any copies of it anywhere. I've checked all my usual sources, but turned up nothing... yet.

I have, however, discovered that just the Tripods stories (which was the only part you were interested in) used to be on a now-dead site, thetripods.org. This is where the Internet Archive's 'Wayback Machine' becomes your friend. Like the TARDIS, it allows you to travel back in time to look at sites that no longer exist. Unfortunately, it didn't archive the actual magazine episodes (I checked), but here's the old, dead page (http://web.archive.org/web/20091123072700/http://www.thetripods.org/beeb.html) on thetripods.org.

You can then hover over 'More' on the left-side menu to see a 'Contact Me' page. This gives you two email addresses for the site owner. It may be worth dropping an email to both addresses to ask if he still has the Tripods stories that you are looking for. Good luck! ;)

As several of you are requesting these Best Friends' Tales:

Best Friends' Tales, Season 1
This is in 2 parts - each part has 2 episodes:

Sorry, I don't do the 'trade' thing. The forum is for sharing. If you have something that other people want, please share, but please don't withhold it until someone gives something in return. All the stuff I put on here (and on several other sites), I share freely, never expecting anything back...

Have to agree there - that's a slippery slope and just a little mean....it's hard enough to get some of this stuff as it is without needing to be able to 'swap' something the other person wants

As an open offer to all here in the DWAT at FF Shrine:,

If you are unable to download torrents, can't get mediafire et al to work for you, have a bit of patience and don't mind snail mail of 'hard copies', drop me a PM and I will sort you out.
This includes Large Conclusions, Beep, Fanfic, some pdf and other fantasy audio/video.

Ah! That's a fair point. I will try to help out a bit more in the future. I can say look to the awbooks forums - there may or msy not be plenty of less than legal Doctor Who audio links there for Usenet. Thanks!!!

Also, I'd like the other cover disks if possible.

No problem...

Huge thanks go to an anonymous donater, who sent me the 'bonus' CD (#7a below) while I was uploading the others. It's not an actual audio story, just a collection of trailers and interviews, but it should still be in this collection.

Please note that this collection also includes the download-only audios (where there was no cover disc, just a link in the mag to download the audio) - I still refer to these as cover discs, even though there was no actual disc.

All of them are now here - enjoy!

:O Sorry! I should have unzipped it to check before putting it up, but assumed it would be OK. I just checked it, and the fault is in the original I uploaded, so I'm to blame (unless I could somehow pass some of the blame onto my copy of WinRAR that was used to make the zip file).

I've now remade the zip and changed the link above, so if you re-download it from the link in my post above, it should be fine. I even re-downloaded and re-extracted it to make sure it works OK...[/spoiler]

Jamdoggy...thanks so much for those, I had an unfortunate accident with one of my external hard drives ( I split coffee into it, don't ask) and whilst I have recovered most of the stuff on there these were one of the things I only managed partially, so thank you.

So i see the old links for the Large Conclusions from back when of the monthly are dead. My Hard drive with most of mine on it died a couple of days a go. I need 1-6, 8-15, 19-103, 105-130 i know that is a big request but every little thing helps and i do prefer non torrent and non rapidshare. thanks in advance
