(Just wish they send the ex-Mithbuster for acting lessons, though.)

I like how they're giving the finger to the Studios. The episode length alone violates the new draconian rules.

Actually they're not. They've been friendly with the Studios all along, never taken a dime of profit, and thus they've been given just enough leeway to finish up what was already in production (four more episodes after this one, including their already-planned two-part 'long overdue series finale') before the next official series launches (which is when the new rules will take effect in full).

For every one of us who actively post to this page there are dozens more who simply lurk in the background. Oh, occasionally one or two might pop their heads out and make their presence known but most just watch and wait for new shares to appear. They started making (spitballing) that episode probably 2 years ago.

They either assumed that anything they had already started was grandfathered in, or they specifically asked if they could grandfather in their almost finished products.

Yep. The Beeb officially announced it yesterday. They're selling the animated Power online on their store on Nov 5th (the 50th anniversary of the first episode's airing) and on DVD on the 21st. However, it looks like for the time being, Americans actually can't buy it. Because it will air for FREE on BCBAmerica on the 12th, and then streaming on their website and app for cable subscribers to their channel starting the next day. Presumably, the DVD will come out here at some point, too.

That will be one more thing for the British fans to complain about. We already get the LC audios for less. (We get them for the same number of dollars that you pay in pounds.)

well i came across a pleasant surprise...-- i found a discount DVD set featuring Anthony Hopkins starring in Tolstoy's War and Peace... and who should appear with him in the opening scene be a very svelt and amazingly superb acting performance by ol Sixie himself.

I urge other to seek this out if there was any doubt about CB's acting chops and that he quite possibly was the worst treated of the TV Medic by the prod staff. This is it... superb performance. I firmly believe that with an another prod staff and if JNT left with the 5th Medic [or had been the one sacked instead of CB in the classic series might have lasted

Thank goodness for LC in that respect, eh?

Some crafty blighter put that W&P adaptation on the y'tube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTGd1h0CrYU

Another Medic-related recommendation: actor David Weston's book Covering McKellen: An Understudy's Tale. Weston was the cover/understudy for McKellen's Lear in the touring production where Seven played the Fool, and there are some good anecdotes about him, including Medic events organized for him at various stops on the tour. (Also a couple featuring the recently-returned Untied Medic.) It's a fascinating backstage look at theatre life.

Personally, my life was transformed the first time I saw a Tribble I honestly don't remember what my first episode of Star Trek was, but I do remember that I was about three when I started watching. My Mom said I used to always put on my Captain Kirk shirt, gather up my Mego dolls and my phaser, tricorder, and communicator and plop down in front of the TV and barely moved a muscle while the show was on

So I kinda came to medic a bit late.

I can remember watching the other sci fi show about the 7 people in a spaceship once too. I got put off by a head in a box that scared the hell out of me.

It worked with the Fourth so no reason it couldn't work for the ninth. Watching him at the time, I thought CE was the most alien of all the doctors. I think it was because I've followed his career and never seen him smile and have fun as a character and the medic brought that out of him.

However, recent returns to them were met with yawns and a desire to go listen to one of the ones with he and LM. I dunno. I mean, don't get me wrong, I still feel that the "The Bells Of After-Eleven-But-Before-One" is brilliant, but it doesn't pack the sense of "Oooooh" that it once did. Pity about LM's fate. Still they could always do another Height-Challenged Tale maybe featuring her, and PMcG this time! Hmm...

I still enjoy the early 8's. It's the main ranges from 50 on with CP and the alien dude that I can't really stand anymore, of course I didn't think much of them the first time I heard them. They just went too far afield of what I consider Medicwhu for me. 8's stories didn't start feeling like proper Medic adventures again until LM joined him.

Yeah the CP's are very specifically what I was talking about. I actually liked Zagravyious when I listened to it (fond memory, I listened to it when I was staying in a hostel in NYC for comic con while walking to the convention center and while walking around the city at night/ignoring homeless people on subways) -- But am scared to listen to it and sort of ruin my memory with the reality that it is probably not that good..

I'd certainly rarely want to hear Zaggy without all the stories that lead-up to it and Scherzy afterwards. That whole run is a work of art and better than the sum of its parts.

The two sets of adventures (diverge & back to our reality) that follow after until CP leaves still hold-up today, in my view, but the 'emergency change of direction' they had to make due to the TV series returning means they never quiet stick the landing before clearing the decks for his change of format and companion. What really sticks out in particular is the departure of the colour-changing alien as you can tell that there should be more story to explain why what happens in 'Absol...' happens. Hints had been dropped, but it's all a bit out of the blue.

And the less said about Skardey Kat the better.

I agree, unfortunately, with just about everyone here, in that I used to LOVE CP (thought her voice was sexy and she was fun), but then they just kept having her whine about how much she loves him and it got on my nerves.

She was fun again with old sixxy, tho.
But then it was a whole other mess, i.e; the forceable keeping pf her secret from a guy who should have been able to figure it out pretty darn quick.

LM started out a little jarring, but grew on me FAST.

This whole discussion raises the really interesting question of how some stories "work" the first time we hear them but don't work so well in repetition over time, whereas others keep on working. Is it primarily the difference between knowing where characters and plotlines are headed versus not knowing any of that on first hearing? Or is it something more?

Yeah, that was eye-rolling that they had to do that. And I've never really been convinced by the whole "Sick Person Zero' storyline with her. I know they had to pair them up initially as Ms Bush had to cancel her recording sessions and Eve-lyn being too ill to record and that seems to have messed up the whole space-time-virus storyline. Oh, and the 'mystery person supposedly living in the tardis without being noticed'? Yeah, hated that. With a passion.

Sixxy and CP was like Freema and TW; worked so much better outside of the original pair they were introduced as. But yeah I agree the limitation to the character at that point was unfortunate.

Never heard of the Daring Hero... He was a childhood hero (though not the original I hasten to add - not quite that old) but reprints and repeats and then 2000AD comics. I so hope they do him justice - it is very British from the 1950's in tone

To quote a famous film; "If you build it, they will come."

Sometimes, nostalgia itself is the selling point.
Sure, there's no presence of a certain character NOW, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a desire by fans for there to BE one.

And some characters (1940's Pulp anti-hero with a large nose and scarf with a wide-brimmed hat and two blazing guns) (1950's space-faring heroes from out of time/space) who were radio programs would work perfectly as audios and have that nostalgia factor built in.

Do I personally CARE" about *AN *ARE?
Not as such. But I'm not the target demographic.
(American, under 50 [if only by a tiny bit], not really a space-hero fan)

But SOMEONE is.

DD is just so... out of left field. They have been pining for various series for the last year-ish but this one has never been mentioned even in passing. It just seems like them picking something up because they have a little extra budget/time this year (the first one comes out in december and vol 2 is scheduled for early 2017).

I mean lets get some more DS or some dramas or something. Or, hell, a Fr*bisher story or two. Surely there is more demand for that than DD...

I used to listen to the old Shaddo series, along with Sheerluck Holmes (the Rathbone and Bruce series) and the masked man and his Indian sidekick every weekend as part of a golden age of radio series as a kid. Probably explains my love of audio dramas. A few years ago I downloaded several years worth of Emerald Bee and his Asian chauffeur but they were of very low quality and almost unlistenable. Very few high quality versions of those old radio shows seem to exist.

Hey folks, I have a sort of off-topic question, so apologies, but I'm fairly certain you will have the answer.

I'm looking for a site to dl some comics. I recently had a flood, and lost a couple of boxes worth (thankfully most of my collection is fine). They're ones I'll replace eventually, when I have money, but there were a few series lost that I hadn't read yet. A couple were Medic (from the two most recent companies), but most were from D*C. Some of those have bearing on current stuff, and I wanted to catch up... Does anyone know of a site where I might be able to poke around and find them?

A suggestion. Since we know that we're being watched here, does it really make sense to post dozens of public responses to this thread thanking people? We might as well be pointing to them and telling the outsiders where to look if they want things taken down.

Yeah, I know we all miss the ability to "like" a post here. But might it not be best to send the thanks via giving a rep and sending private messages?

That's not to at all say that we don't appreciate tremendously what people here share with us! But maybe we should make that appreciation a bit more quiet, for their sake and everyone's?

I think it's a difficult balance to strike between wanting to be polite and show thanks and wanting to be discrete.

I always want to to thank the person. Either by adding reputation or (if that isn't possible) thanking them on the thread.
I know when I've uploaded the odd thing here I've seen how many times it's been downloaded and been amazed at how few of those people have bothered to make some sign that they've appreciated it.

Uploading is a chore. It takes time. It's nice to know it's appreciated and not being taken for granted. But as I said, there's a balance to be struck.

I'm not bothered by the "Thank you"s - I'd rather have them than not

I get where you're coming from, but if we didn't show some appreciation when someone shared this forum might look pretty dead. And we have been known to go days between postings on here. It's not unusual for there to be long lulls of inactivity then spurts of conversation, usually following a release of one kind or another, followed by another lull. Imagine being an admin and seeing weeks between postings. One might wonder what the point was of keeping open a forum with so little activity on it.

does it really make sense to post dozens of public responses

Not that I don't appreciate the recent replies, but I agree that for the long-term health of the thread it would be best to keep things as low-key as possible. As some of you may have gathered from the infrequency of my posts I typically don't have a great deal of free time in my life and am generally unable to socialise on this forum so I'm still a bit of a stranger, but I welcome PMs if anyone has a request I can help with or wants to say anything to me directly. Just understand it might be awhile before I see it (I usually hover around for a few days after upping anything to check no-one has any issues though)

I've often felt the same, about big, public displays of thanks, and so I've been slowly phasing out of it and more into JUST private PMs or, mostly messages attached to reputation point clicks.

I have usually done the latter for the content poster and the former for the sake of the board members' benefit, so they don't think me a silent ingrate.

Heck, I'll even post a thank you for stuff I don't even DL, just because I want the uploader to BE thanked.

I'll be doing it all behind the scenes from now on.

I'm not judging. It's just what I've been thinking of doing for awhile now.

I don't think the thanks matter in the way you mean. If there is a mole then (if they've any sense) they're well aware by now of the rwq trick so thanks aren't drawing attention at all.

jlatx
09-26-2016, 07:02 AM
They draw attention if the mole isn't as obsessed with reading every post as some of us are. They could have almost glided right past a cleverly worded post. I almost did! But since I'm here, thank you Jez!! (This is one of the reasons i post my thanks irregularly and with multiple recipients. Most likely a mole isnt going to comb through pages of backlog to figure out exactly what i meant. But the poster knows)

Couple current themed ones this month. Focusing on the UK Lost Sitcom season are some behind-the-scenes episode guide books from Are U Being Served, Steptoad & Son, Hancock's 1/2 Hour, Pooridge and a interesting book about how and why the US remake UK comedies into their own version. I've even included the religious black gospel lady from US Sanford & Soon - Aunt Esther's Handbook for Holy Badasses (check author bio at end first). And to celebrate Read Dwarf coming back on Dave TV, 3 books of quizzes and behind the scenes from the series. And a British TV Quiz book. And a couple Sheerluck Holmes. And a cookbook. Enjoy and DON'T FORGET TO SAY THANKS!!!

This was a USA fan video production done in the mid-1980s. They also did HHGTTG, Bloke 6+1 and other such mash-ups. I've seen a few of the things this US group has done and know two of the members as they also work the local G-------y One Convention here in LA. The group was known as the Federation and they did parody Who fan vids from the early-Late 80's. They resurfaced with a few things in the late 90's/00's but seem to have gone quiet again. Steven and Jennifer created/run the current main Medic Forum GBase and also did 20 years of the MST337 (like M3k but with Medic stories instead of Cheesy B movies) live shows at the two big Medic Cons in LA and Chicago gong back to 1996-2015.

A website about this group and their output is here: http://fedvideo.net/80.htm and here: http://shillpages.com/mt337/
