Ms Smithmiller? I didn't even know she'd done one ... and she'd done quite a few acording to iTunes, so you may need to be a bit more specific (Or, probably better, ask out in the rest of the forum if there's a bit dedicated to theatre releases?)

I see what you mean, but I guess that CC was thinking more that DWM could publish something the attention-seeker could use as 'evidence' for his prickness. "It must be true, Your Honour, as DWM printed that My Father was in the toilet every time it was discussed. That must be evidence of a BBC cover-up!"

But if they did pull the article and he found out, the question would then be 'why?' Catch-22.

If it comes out that Coburn did actually come up with the idea then fair enough, but like someone said why wait until now to make these claims except for the publicity for doing it on the 50th Anniversary.

Plus, whoever has researched the article may actually be able to shed some light one way or the other.

I wouldn't be surprised if all the original ideas for the TARDIS were already on court records due to that move The Met Police tried to do a few years ago (Pre RTD?) over the image rights of the police phone box.

I just wish they'd NOT called it The Tomorrow People. Taken on its own merits it's not too bad and I like how the story is going. Yeah, it riffs on themes we've seen from Alphas/Heros, but so far it's doing it well. But .. but it's NOT what I would want as an updated version of the original TV series.

As an 'reboot' of TP - it sucks

As a new series ... it's got legs.

And I'm enjoying more than M:OaS.

Oh I cant agree- but I think as a big TP fan I'm very easily pleased- I don't like some of what they have done the ability to kill, Ultra, No Galactic Federation- AND WHAT HAPPENED TO JAUNTING!!!!!!!!!! No jaunting belts. Gggggrrrrrrrrrr

But I have enjoyed lots of little nods to its origins
TIM (even if not quite as we know him/it)
Saps
HomoSuperior
Jedikiah
Steven & John
the Prime Barrier

I've always felt that the TP formula is universal & unlike Doctor Who - it's not quintessentially British IMHO.

but I can also appreciate the comparisons to more recent U.S. sci fi's, mainly because the original TP series just didn't get across the pond- the majority of the modern audience has no awareness of its origins or history.
Not sitting on the fence - I can understand ch0ronzon, lokisph, guygardener & your comments- I will stick with it, as I said previously, unless things improve, I think I'm just gonna have the 1 series to enjoy- I hope that when/if it ends it doesn't have an unresolved cliffhanger (like the V remake), I wont be expecting a big influx of TP merchandise either .... which is a shame as I'm a sucker for a novel or magazine subscription, LOL

I find it all a bit bizarre! As far as I'm aware Anthony Coburn had no issues, grievances or unresolved claims of copyright/ownership while he was alive.
I hope I don't sound horrible, but after reading many things that his son has posted/written he comes across as having some serious issues

Considering a few years back the London Metropolitan Police fought the BBC in court over copyright issues relating to the Police box (TARDIS) image and lost, I don't think this chaps claims will have much better luck

I'm pretty sure back in the good old days, when the BBC created an idea for a programme & employed all its own BBC contracted staff to develop initial ideas it was in the contract that the BBC were recognised as owners of that intellectual property. Otherwise Ray Cusick could have earnt a fortune for his Dalek design

Here's what annoys me.

In the credits no less they refer to the Tomorrow people as having the 3 Tees.

Teleportation, Telekenesis and Telepathy.

Here's the rub.

From episode one the hero of the story exhibits Temporalkenesis.

A fourth Tee.

Something like this is not misinformation, it's a sucky lack of internal dialogue.

Look at what fate of the medic 11 is called, and now face palm why people have been uploading files called HG Wells which you have been ignoring for the last 2 weeks.

The narration is referring to the 'Ts' they all have in common.

I'm simply not hearing that.

My name is Steven Jameson, I am one of the tomorrow people, the next step in human evolution, they call our powers the three ts, telepathy, telekensis and teleportation, there is a shadow war going on between us and ultra, an organization which hunts us, the only way to stop my species from going extinct is to find my father, and the only way to do that is to work for the enemy.

Before the pilot "they" would call it the three tees, but ater the pilot "they" would call it the four tees.

"They" who call the powers the three Tees are external of Steven, but Steven's monologue is external of the continuity in the show, but it is Steven talking about "our powers" which means that he is inclusive of the group's powers if the group is "our", therefore his expanded powerset is part of the group's combined definition of powers, and really did you think that there will never be any more temporalkenetics, or that 10 seconds after they saw Steven do what he did with time in the pilot, that both sides weren't trying to find another, or force another Tomorrow Person to exhibit those same abilities? Eventually some, most or all of them will be able to play with Time, it's the next step in evolution and that should delineate the poles in an evolved class stratification for the new new world order. Tomorrow People vs. Post Tomorrow People.

(Day after Tomorrow People?)

Funny how the next war for control of the planet might have already began before the last mundane species has been properly eradicated?

Ultra and the Tomorrow People must team up to stop all the freak mutant Day After Tomorrow People taking over the world!

What I love, love, LOVE about the upcoming "anniversary" bash DotD is that they (looking at the trailers) left out all past Medics because they are too old and ugly for the young women who make up the vast majority of NuMedic's audience to look at, because they will gag at the sight of them. Instead, they put in Mr. Pain, who, I say without the slightest bit of irony (unlike the rest of this post), is a fine, fine actor, but apparently is not the least bit old and unpleasant to look at at all, and has every bit to do with the entire history of a show he's never been involved with.

Yeah it's a bit shite that they've not included any of the other docs, but I think you've just disproved your own theory there. Why ignore them when JH is just as old and ugly?

I think it maybe nearer the point that how would you explain their appearance now? (That's a rhetorical question, btw. I'm sure that at least several of us have ideas - myself included.)

It may also be a case of the classic series not being 'his baby' so, given the reports of his ego, as far as he's concerned just doesn't exist for him.

Or, he may surprise us all and all the surviving docs may turn up (not likely, but possible)

Damn you Looshkin, beaten to it while I was typing :D

The fact that most of them look NOTHING like they did back then, and probably couldn't fit into their costumes anyway, obviously is irrelevant, then... :)

And JH looks exactly as he did, and fits into his classic costume just fine... Oh, wait... :p

Well, I guess 1 old man is better than 4 lol (not counting McG). Anyway, it wasn't really a theory, just an observation.

Not only that; they may have also solved the problem of limited regenerations Him dying and being resurrected temporarily so that he could regenerate. It could be that his dying could screw up the count

Either way, I'd love to see more of these minisodes. They could do some of them featuring JH during the Time War - it certainly looks like we're gonna get a glimpse during the special but I want to see more!

Presumably the BBC needed LC's permission to absorb their companions into canon?

For years LC has worked to protect their permission to use BBC-owned characters.
How would it feel for LC to be asked for permission that their own characters be referenced? I can only imagine:

Amanda
11-14-2013, 08:00 PM
Indeed it would. You know, aside from fan desire, using 8 makes a ton of sense. He is the only one we really don't know a lot about, or how long he was around. All story and audios aside, there is just nothing to indicate the number of actual in story years that pass. Many of the New episodes are fairly tightly woven. ('s were, at least. And having a human companion kind of sets the max time in any era, as they do not age enough to set a long-ish time. 11 Circumvents that by only occasionally visiting the Ponds or Clare. So there could be a TON of stories between. And quite a few between the Pond and Clara...

I think you misunderstand the relationship LC have with the BBC. They need permission from the BBC for each and every story, so that also covers them creating and using their own companions.

Q: Finally, running a show like Doctor Who is always going to be hard work… But how much fun was it? Bringing back the Eighth Doctor?

SM: Oh, it was a complete treat! It was always frustrating that we never got to see more of him! The completist in me… the ‘box set man’ in me wants every box ticked and I wanted every regeneration scene! And we get to see the Paul McGann Doctor regenerate into the John Hurt Doctor! I love regeneration episodes – there’s nothing more exciting! And in the anniversary year we get to see two regenerations… That’s pretty cool!

So may ecclescake MAY make a brief regeneration cameo!!!

By "two regenerations", doesn't he mean (McGann -> Hurt) and (Smith -> Capaldi)? He would have had to say "three" for CE to be in there.

Amanda

One thing I liked about the minisode I've always been bothered by the way the Doctor's regenerations these days are so much more dramatic than those of the classic series. This minisode gave us a reason for that change. From the way McGann was looking at his hands when it first happened, it was like he'd never seen it happen before, but by the time 9 turns into 10 he's used to the idea that "this is what my regeneration process is like now".

On the other hand, I did not like the way they had John Hurt. I get that they wanted to have a young John Hurt, and they didn't have the budget for a CGI Hurt (which probably wouldn't have looked good in any case), but the way they worked around it just drew attention to the fact that they were trying to work around that problem. And I didn't think it worked.

Ok, I was kinda worried for a bit, but The Night of the Doctor has given me some hope that the 50th episode may not be all that bad.
If Day of the Doctor is a 10th of the awesome Night is, then I'll be quite happy. Especially if a few more unexpected pleasant surprises are thrown in.

Being in Canada, I was a bit disappointed to learn that my city is not showing the 50th in theatres on the 23rd. But I was quite elated to learn that it will be showing it on the 25th. So my dilemma now is, do I watch it on the small screen on Saturday, or wait a couple days to see it in 3D on the big screen? Not sure if i'll be able to wait, but it will have more of an impact if I was seeing it for the first time in theatres.

Hi all,
How fantastic was The Night of the Doctor?
If you haven't seen it yet, what the hell are you doing here?

As SM says he's a completist who wants to tick all the regenerations boxes, what does that mean about CE's arrival scene?

Also, just wondered if anyone is able to upload copies of the 'Evening' special with SM and the 'Science' special with PBC at some point....they would be much appreciated.

So If Mr Hurt is another regen does that mean all the others now move up one, 9 is 10, 10 is 11, 11 is 12 and 12 will be 13 and the last?? The end is being prepared for.

Oooh Cynical me.. lol

No, as announced JH is 8.5, the same way that the 'Watcher' is 4.5..... but we still have to deal with the Moffs comment of : "Re-count the regenerations", and the inconsistent canon statements of how many regenerations are possible, the line is: "12th and Last", not 12th and 13th.....

Is the Time War at the end of Gallifrey's history, or before Gallifrey's rebirth with the Hand, created by Omega, as the planet of 'Time Lords'?, remember we are dealing with constant time paradoxes for the last 50 years.... why can't the lone survivor go back and change the result... because the White Guardian wont let him, because the Key to Time is re-disbursed, because.......

not sure where I got this quote from:

"Gallifreyan Absolute Time"
Because of the transduction barrier around Gallifrey, Gallifrey always exists in "real time"
and when travelling to and from it, time passes as does "real time".
No one can travel to Gallifrey's past or future, only to its present which is the limit of future time as it exists.

in classic who, whenever the doctor was visiting Gallifrey, or encountered other time travelers, such as the Master or The Rani, it was always in chronological order.
but it has been never completely made clear what happens during a "time" war.
maybe with the transduction barriers down, paradoxes run rampant.
with gallifrey timelocked away, it sort of explains the encounters between the Doctor and River Song being out of order, even though she is also technically a Time Lord

from the bbc official page...
from the moff....

Remember, there's a second short to come: "The Last Day" - Hurt regen, anyone?? And it's not like Eccles actually has to be there - JH wasn't for this. I'm sure we'll see this regen somewhere... :)

No. If you look closely the TARDIS beams are straight, the ones in the wreckage have a angle in them. Plus, if you stand the ones up that are laid backwards, they match the shape of the gunship's corridor.

BBC Radio Wales has announced it will dedicate its daytime schedule to Doctor Who on Thursday, 21 November - two days before the premiere of the 50th anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor.

Two of the station’s daytime presenters, Jason Mohammad and Eleri Sin, will be broadcasting live from Cardiff Bay on the day, with a host of special guests including Jenna Coleman (Clara) and the show’s head writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat. BBC Radio Wales will also re-broadcast the Doctor Who Prom that was performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London, earlier this year.

Yep, a good selection from Fig Binish, though it's a shame that they didn't bother to pick any of sixy's stories - some of which were the very best of the FB catalogue and all of which redeemed the reputation of that particular incarnation and the actor who played him.

Were the Beeb embarassed by their own bad treatment of him? Or were they annoyed at the rather public ejection of toys from pram delivered by CB over his non-inclusion in the Anniversary Special?

If you had to pick a single audio adventure to represent each of the Doctors for an anniversary transmission what would you pick?

Yes, I can see it now.

For some reason it makes me feel better to know that I am not gazing upon the remains of such a lovely design simply for shock effect.
(It also prevents QuiteFrequently from uttering some further witticism about the designers' having simply cut corners in matching the 1996 set). "Hurt" indeed!

In order that my family of Nu-Whovians should properly appreciate The Night of the Doctor, I of course had to first sit them down to watch McGann's 1996 TVM.
Am I the only one who thinks that McGann sounds different in the 1996 TV movie from how he does in later and more recent performances? (See Doctor Who the movie part 4 - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHjxxSMgJhQ) for example, in which for a few seconds he almost sounds french to me). Does anyone know if he was affecting some particular regional accent? Or perhaps he was congested?

Sounds like the kind of detail appropriate to an audiophiles' thread.

I think he tried to 'lighten'/'soften' his voice a bit for the movie, and it's similar in some of the earlier LCs. As time progressed with those you can hear him relax more into his natural timbre. Compare and contrast his 1st with Ms P and his 1st with Ms M.

Also, I don't think think the soundtrack for the movie really captures his lower registers properly.

This as well as age playing a part, as well as him simply wanting to play his Medic as being darker - thus the whole DE storyline.

First of all, thank you Goldie for providing the newest CC. Secondly, I too was floored when Eight reappeared. I thought it was a nice touch on Moffat's part to not only have him namecheck most of his LC companions, but also have his outfit be a compromise between his TV movie outfit and the more pragmatic look he adopted during "Murky Tabs". I also loved how meta his first line of dialogue was: "I'm a Doctor. But probably not the one you're expecting." In fact, it's comparable to a line my friend came up with if Eight was gonna show up in the actual 50th, where Eleven would've said to him "I don't recall being you very long." and Eight replies with "I preferred to be heard and not seen." The best part? My friend isn't even as big a Who fan as I am and has only seen a bit of Nine's stories. He IS a budding writer who really likes Joss Whedon's body of work, though.

I thought one of the main cinemas in Norwich were showing it and became very despondent when I found out they weren't..However I managed to find a small local run cinema in the city that is doing and managed to bag the last 2 3d tickets for me and my wifey. Really looking forward to it with massive antici..............pation

Wow the chappy who does this chronological site for all the doctors is really on the ball, it feels as though 8th's time line is more complete now. I did always wonder if LC would do an episode with 8's demise but now we know

Doctor Who - The Complete Adventures - Eighth Doctor (http://www.eyespider.freeserve.co.uk/drwho/pm/list.html)

Well, with luck when PMcG decides it's time to hand in his set of keys to The Tardis the closing lines of his last story will be him setting co-ordinates to give aid to a crashing ship ...

SSpace works very happily with JDownloader, so I recommend you give that a try.

Just started listening to CC The Start, and I almost wet myself with squee when:

Susan could hear Clara and the Doctor talking outside the TARDIS! Didn't know there'd be a callback to Name of the Doctor.

I must have absolutely missed this.

I heard that was a late addition to the script following the airing of the episode. Same with the change in cover art.

Well the line was pretty vague but nice.

Thanks for the audio Goldie. I'm off to Collectormania today to hopefully meet some Whatians and get them to sign my TLATE box set. Sixey, eighty, the bus driving flower and the lady president are my main targets. And I totally loved the mini-sode, need to start a campaign for a Two Medics with eight and the new one (not sure what his number will be now!)

BTW - if you don't mind torrenting the buccaneer site has the minisode and the Science of Medic What in various formats. Also original season 5, serial 4 is on there too.

ah - but we sent Kylie AND Jason but we kept Craig McLachlan (Check out the Doctor Blake Mysteries). We kept the best one :P

No we didn't - Guy Pearce went to Hollywood (although he comes back every now & then)... :)

Very glad they did it, though - nice to have that continuity there...
