Portrait in the attic is based on a classic with lots of fans. That might also be a factor.

to be fair that lasted all of 3-4 episodes after the opening.....and possibly the greeks bearing gift... but after the episode Countrycide;they keep killing suzie and random shoes that was pretty much gone

but you find most TV shows have a 3-4 episode period where the production team settles in and figures out where they are taking the show..... the 9th medic series when it returned was very different from episode 6 onward [compare and contrast the tone to Aliens of London WWIII to Dalek]compared to what we were given in the first 5

In fact, I think it's the one where they bring back an unlikely character from the yeK oT emiT season's finale.

Ah! Is that what caused the injunction against you flashing the Classic Doctors?

He was being driven from the Symphonic Spectacular and I made awkward eye contact as I happened to turn around while the van was reversing out for a very uncomfortable moment. As it began to drive away i called out, and he smiled and went to say something though the window before realising it was in fact rolled closed and bumped his nose. He just sort of waved feebly after that. What you're thinking of is something entirely different Nobber, and I'm slightly alarmed you found out. Have you been going through my criminal record? :P

Heres my view on The Worlds;

In the States (at least, I'm not sure of elsewhere), we have Free Comic Book Day. This is one day per year where the big publishers put out free comics that contain new/preview stories that give potential new customers a chance to look at their product with no investment outside of time.

This CD/Download was a GREAT opportunity for LC to do this, they did not. So I think the ultimate outcome of this attempt to get people into the non-Medic lines is going to be that existing fans will have similar opinions to my own and new fans will not bother with the fairly hefty pricetag on it.

From what I recall, they always planned to have Martha join TW. And she did, for a bit. But then Freema got the Law & Order gig, which probably was a bigger job for her and her career, which took her away from it. I think they would have had Mickey join later, if she'd stayed. I imagine that's where RTD got the idea to put them together in the end.

well this was down to the fact that the BBC took a little too long to approve that next series and bother actors were unavailable at the time

sort like if thhey had approved another Torchwood last year at this time --Barrowman would have been unavailable due to Arrow, and Myles would have missed out because she was in You Me and Them

you are trying to compare apples and oranges by trying to make them into strawberries and kuwquats

free comic book day would equate to releasing the first episode of a story in a download or podcast....[which they have done numerous times including most of the properties in Worlds]

Okay, I don't remember who called it, but we got it. Here comes more meh from LC with Pointless. Ya know, because we all demanded it. And, it's the same damn writer for the series as the last three. I thought they would have learned their lesson and had a team of writers on this one to add some diversity. I think the main reason I enjoyed their story in Spheres of LC is because it was a different writer who brought a fresh perspective. Keeping it at half an hour helped.

I was wondering about the singer in the show. Obviously she was a hologram, but there's still a couple questions about what she is.

1. The Hologram has nothing to do with F0xes. The performance is based on a different fictional template.

2. It's a recording of a performance F0xes made thousands of years ago, and is still popular.

3. It's a media platform based on F0xes profile, but not necessarily her own work or any song the person F0xes ever sang, it's just a music processor that can render any know music in the style of F0xes.

mantrashak
05-27-2015, 09:59 PM
I think the Foxes track is a deliberate attempt to show the contrast between real history and imagined history. They're all flying through space on a vehicle mocked up to be a train from another era. The original version of Don't Stop Me Now is a rock song by Queen. The foxes version is in a jazz style - somewhat at odds with the Queen version, but possibly to show that most things on the train are not entirely authentic.

You know, I'd completely forgotten that. But now you mention it, I feel a bit annoyed at RTD for that as it sort of precludes getting him back on screen.

But, that said, we know he's a Governor of Coal Hill, and it wouldn't sit right with him being in such a public position where people will start to notice that he's never aged.

Either way ... get him back on screen, in character, soon.

The 1977 Brigadier in Mawdryn can be explained in a similar way- the Doctor could have picked him up later in his life line and dropped him in 1977. Explains why he retreated to a boys school to avoid crossing his own time line! Anything can be explained in Who!!!

Heres my view on The Worlds;

LC used to knock out free stories on a regular basis, usually through DWM. Good stuff, too! They haven't done that for quite a while - it's a habit they should get back into!

Though, now that I think about it, it was always making the site crash - that might be why they stopped.

I'd certainly say you could. I remember the original TPs being a terrible TV series with some ok stories saddled with poor production and poor actors. Whilst some of the original actors could still be classed as 'needing more practice', the audio versions are far superior.

S&S are even better than their TV counterparts, IMHO.

Although I like the S&S stories, I thought DW's voice was too old to play the metal man. And the amount of "I don't know how to end this story" in the final season was not good.

TP was a good series but while it's in USA, LC won't get the rights back.

I actually preferred the audio versions over their TV counterparts. Steels harder edge (ha ha!) feels to fit better on Warner, where-as McCall's just seemed petulant.

Though, now that I think about it, it was always making the site crash - that might be why they stopped.

Well, they've put most of those free stories up for free permanently on their site or on iTunes. So, anyone who wants to sample their stories has quite a few to choose from. And they've been giving away the first episodes of a lot of their stories lately, including the next main range one.

So, I'm not sure how much they'd benefit from putting out still more free stories that they still have pay to make. I'd imagine that most of the people listening to them would be people who either already buy from them or who never or rarely buy from them, but get all the free stuff. Neither would make them more money.

TEA's are more of a full cast thing while the new CC's apper to be the old CC's in how they are presented (Someone telling a story).

besthead

They said that they weren't sure if they could keep up the quality with 12 releases per year under the old format. But now we're effectively getting even more than before, when you consider 4 discs of CC's per year plus 4 double disc TEA's. plus the 4 disc soundalike 3rd set. Seems like a good compromise, especially if 3's sets become an annual thing. (Which seems likely, since they called it volume one!)

Nick said in his recent podcast that they're trying to put all of the Medics into their own ranges, although they're going to keep the main range for long time fans.
So, now we effectively have ranges with 1/2 (2 ranges, with each Medic alternating), 3, 4, and 8, with 5,6 and 7 in the main range.

GoldenTalesGeek

I don't think it was to sort them into their own individual ranges so much as it was creating categories for each Medic on the website to make it easier for the average consumer to look for audios of a specific Medic instead of getting disheartened that they can't find anything unless it's in more oblique categories.

besthead
06-04-2015, 11:48 PM
I'm not so sure. Yeah, they clearly want to make the website easier to find things on. And I think they're offering the chance to pick only one of the main range doctors for subscriptions.

But he also sounded like he wanted to give each Medic his own range, and specifically used that language. And that's kind of what they've done now with 3, 4 and 8. Plus 1 and 2 have two ranges they share, with alternating years for each. So, that's 5 ranges for 5 Medics, with the original three still in their main range, but with occasional box sets.

I wonder if they sell more copies with the special status of the CC box sets and the short TEA schedule, or with the regular monthly CC's. Some people prefer a regular things, while others might be attracted to special releases. It sounds like Dim Peepers sold a lot more than the EDA monthlies did.

Oh, I'm sure that was intentional. And as much as i would like to believe there arent people like her in this world - I've probably met way too many of them. It was effective. I wanted to reach through my speaker and strangle her...after slapping her silly. She was the real monster of the ep, and maybe that was the point? Sometimes its just tough for me to want to hang out with fictional people that i would never hang with in real life. This is why i could never watch past the first couple seasons of seinfeld. The characters begin to have NO redeeming qualities. I dont wanna be around those jerks in any capacity ever for any reason. Not even to laugh at them. They make me ashamed of humanity. Subheck had other characters that did have redeemable qualities, so i could deal with it. But hey, it provoked a strong and poignant reaction. Nicely done Barnes!

Sub hell should have been titled "i married the worst person ever" His wife was sooo annoyingly unlikable, I almost couldn't listen to it.

It's a Who riff on Mike Leigh's "Abigale's Party" where the central character Bev is a ghastly self centered and self obsessed woman, so unbelievably awful she's practically a monster. Barnes takes it further, making her a real monster. You're not meant to like her!

I enjoyed it, but it's not as good as Leigh's play.

Warriors really didn't make sense.

A Bar on Oa?

That's a lot of work, if you can't charge for the beverages you're serving, and I think I remember immigrant alien nonGreen Lantern barmaids, who would not be being paid, but would be deported the the instant they stopped working?

Android barmaids possibly?

I mean it was the 90s, so Guys nonregulated hiring practices would have made Hooters blush with concern.

A while back there was someone calling "Myfreemp3" the other place, which it is not.

Stay tuned.

So I was at Sprawlmart the other day and saw a special medic DVD set featuring the Tin Men. Only thing was, there was only one classic story included (the one where that annoying kid goes boom), the rest were all New Series episodes. Why would the Beeb release a set like that and not include more classic material? Where's The 10th World, Crypt of the Tin Men, even Assault of the Tin Men? Expose fans to something more than the subpar Cyb stories New Who has done so far. Let new fans see what the Cybs are like when done right. Just saying.

No.

It's a literal suggestion to scroll up the page.

I just started watching "Colin's Sandwich" with Mel Smith and I'm still trying to make my mind up about it.

I think an early draft might have called the show "Colin's shit sandwich" if I was absolutely sure how old the phrase shit sandwich was.

I would say because the good early stuff is in Black and White, which modern youth will not tolerate - but then the 4th's Revenge was in glorious colour. It went with the 25th anniversary story into another box set so maybe that is why?

The modern tin men are a completely separate creation with a different back story. Really don't want the Lords of Mondas confused with that bunch....

They aren't sharks, they're the geese that lay the golden eggs. And approximately two hours after a title's release almost certainly counts as "too soon". I've said it before, I'll give it a go at saying it again, if everyone did their bit, if the burden of sharing didn't fall so heavily onto so few shoulders then maybe the requests would seem less demanding.

Unless you are constantly making requests for brand new material, most of the people here are understanding enough to know that new people ask for new releases and give you a polite slap on the wrist. Don't take offense to it.

Also, as someone who is not really financially sound, I have contributed a few times. Every little bit helps and most digital releases are the cost of a meal. So for the people that DO get bent out of shape when you ask for stuff, recognize that when they are buying these things, it's a meal they are missing out on to benefit the community.

it's just that badgering has a been a real problem in the past, so everyone is a little sensitive and quick to give a reminder not to beg.Ingratitude has also been an issue where requests are concerned. There have been a number of occasions where link requests were met with rudeness on the part of the requester because the given file posted wasn't in the format they wanted or posted from a certain site and they'd get irate if you didn't jump through hoops when they barked to correct the issue.

well it is labeled as a "big Finish"

[i can't seem to find the clip of the actual performance. just the behind the scenes... but the show is pretty decent ..a sort of watered down version of French and Saunders crossed with Catherine Tate [wondered whatever happened to her]
