Hey folks,

Not Doctor Who and maybe been shared before but for those who are interested here are the first two audio adventures based on a role playing game that was set on the 4th Planet in 1889.

The Crimson Devils (http://www.sendspace.com/file/8vvdkx)

The Russian Geographical Region of Thoth (http://www.sendspace.com/file/f9xkc5)

It's been a while since I listened to them but I remember quite enjoying them. If there is interest I can try and upload the remaining two later

I hope you enjoy them

I'm on my way to filling up 5TBs worth of external hard drives. LOL.

When you have untold movies that you're upgrading the quality on, all of DW (and most of the DVD9s--just missing a handful of discs and I'm quite sad about it), Dark Shadows (all 1,225 episodes of it), the Jossverse, numerous other series (some of which are long), etc... That will do it.

guygardener

1tb = 250 dvds = 1750 CDs.

It took me at best 6 and a half minutes to burn a cd or dvd.

That's 8 days to burn the cds, if I'm completely on the ball and do not sleep and do not check to see if the disk hasn't cocked up... Which it inevitably does.

Buying the higher quality DVD folders, turned out to be almost expensive as the actual dvds, and buying the cheap shitty ones is just unnecessarily of approving child labour.

I keep finding corrupted dvds that I have to replace and it's pissing me off.

Multiple purely by irregularly dumping stuff off onto retired HD's that I've put into external enclosures. The only stuff that I double check regularly is the personal stuff. It'd be a pain to loose a load of A/V stuff, but that's nothing compared to photos and things.

True but I don't think the second would be happening to such an extent without the first. Sharing with online friends is a lot more palatable than giving to strangers who demand stuff. Wouldn't you say?

Personally, I have just been too busy to really post lately due to job/life stuff.

Though, admittedly, the nonsense a few months ago has significantly cooled my desire to get into any meaningful discussion.

Really more of a life thing though.
On the plus side, I have acquired a fantastic Wacom tablet, so the next time I am inspired to garb Davros in the robes of office, it should look significantly better than my previous efforts.

So let's start a related discussion. How does everyone feel about LCs lowering of their sub prices. I understand that we in the US and the good folk in Australia are being treated to some pretty good discounts. I'm a CD person myself so I'll see about a 2 dollar reduction in sub prices as compared to when I made some notes a few years back. That may or may not be affected by the better exchange rate. We may or may not also be losing the free December release as a result. Official statement coming soon. Thoughts?

I was on the fence for months about subscribing. I thought $150 was a bit much. The price reduction clinched it for me and I took out a subscription Monday (getting a nice tax return also also swayed me).

And yes, I will be sharing when they come out. I was not able to share in the past due to financial constrains. I was paying for my Master's Degree as well as regular bills and mortgage. Now that that's behind me, I do not have a problem sharing material with those who have been kind enough to share. Just giving back to the community.

I hadn't seen that. Just popped over to their website for a look at the news pages.
I subscribed for a number of years but stopped when my financial circumstances changed.
They haven't recovered enough for me to start subscribing again. But it certainly makes it more likely.

Sadly no, not next. Our pattern is this 11, 1, 10, 2, 9, 3, War, 4, 8, 5, 7, 6, 6, 7, 5, 8, 4, War, 3, 9, 2, 10, 1, 11...ect.
We've already voted on "Black Orchid" though I wanted "The Five Doctors". However this early in the game we could change to show "Arc of Infinity" instead.
Time will tell.

Since the bulk of our attendees are teenagers all of Classic Who confuses them. (ex: Why aren't all the episodes in color? Why are the SFX so crappy? Why isn't the Doctor hot?)

All we know is that the Doctor falls at Trenzalore, we don't know when in his own timeline it happens. When he jumped into his own timeline, all he really did was to make sure he was still around at that point to actually jump into his own timeline.

Two different things.

First, can anyone repost the D-a%r^k H!o$r(i@z)o^n#s e-book? I actually own the hardcover, but at this point, I prefer e-books especially over the heavy hardcovers. All of the links I've found have been deactivated.

Secondly, on the subject of the new price drop for subscriptions, am I the only one who thought that it was odd that it actually costs 1 pound/dollar/euro MORE for the 12 month download-only subscription vs 2 of the 6 month ones? I guess you still get the bonus release for a 12 month one, which can be valuable (especially of you want one of the rarer subscriber only ones.) But do they offer this for download only subscribers, or only for CD subs?

Drake.

There are these things called googlebots who scour the internet looking for links, to identify as the intellectual property of their masters and shut down.

Enough links in one account get tagged and that persons entire account with gigs of data in it get locked and demolished.

If you ask for something, code it a little. Just a couple dashes between the letters, or switch some letters around, is the most minimum requirement, or go completely cryptic if you want to leave people too bothered and boggled to full up your requests.

Drawing too much attention to this thread unduly means that actual people whose job it is to find and report links might look at it, and not just their robots.

Howdy, I have been lurking for quite a while but haven't wanted to stick my head up while everyone was working out their differences. That said, I have been fortunate thus far to be able to build my audio collection through means unrelated to this thread (including legal ones, believe it or not), but there is one show that is eluding me that I would like for completism's sake but that I expect I won't love enough to want to purchase anywhere. So, does anyone have access to a copy of Austrian City's Recollection Carton by any chance?
In the future I am happy to provide links to some of the more obscure non-Large Resolution audios such as some of the audiobooks and autobiographies (I suspect everyone here already has all of the Large Resolution stuff so I won't bother, but if there is something you're missing let me know and I'll get it to you.)

Can you fix please. It worked fine for me, buzzco, which suggests the problem is either a temporary one, or at your end...

On this particular site, you can also right-click on the download link, and choose 'Save File as...' to save it (depending on your browser, it may also be 'Save Link As...' or 'Save Target As...').

Any/All of them. If it all possible. There's over 60 of them, which makes it difficult to share, as share sites are usually limited in both individual filesize, and amount of data that can be uploaded.

What you need is a different method of getting them - what methods can you use? Can you do 'torrents' or 'DC++', for example, as I could probably get them to you by both of these methods?

Quite a few of the Bullseye readings are already up in the megatorrents on several sites. It's really just the more recent ones like The Anti-Inferno Buildings, The Duo of Troubles (it's strangle-riffic!), and The Scottish People What Dwells in the Upgrounds that are harder to find. The Water Demons, Peking Homunculus with Plum Sauce, Prof. What Gets a Toothache, Grave of the Handles-Men, Sense-sphere of Boundless Excitement, The Early Adventure of Old Tom and the Foam-Assy, The One in Which Vicki's Pet Meets a Sticky End and The Non-Toltecs aren't in the big bundles I've seen either. Availability really falls off after The Pursual (in which the Daleks Meet the Monsters and the Telstar-bots).

People are afraid of their sendspace accounts being closed down, losing a lot of personal information, which is why links posted here only stay up for as long as the uploader dares, 24 hours in this case.

I'm wondering about Vickie's life expectancy?

Between genetic modification and service nanites you would think that people from the plus 25th century would have an unholy schism between their life expectancy and that of the minus 20th century humanity her husband who she wound up with was associated with.

Perhaps if nanites are sexually transmitted, which would just be a bad idea if the tech went insane but a good idea if the tech needed to be passively upgraded from year to year without everyone going into the shop, even though her fixed settings for a child would be completely different form an adult... In a polysexual society that would be a good idea, but in a prudent society that would be bad because upgraded tech would out affairs and lead tot he collapse of many a marriage, if such an institution makes it to the 25th century.

You don't have to fill in the "email account" field. It's optional.

:)

I assume that there's some benefit to using a free account, or paid account rather than uploading anonymously.

Besides, hopefully just logging out of sendspace should mean that you can have an account sometimes and upload secretly other times, as you feel is a more useful application of your time and risk to your liberty.

There is also the "transfer to my account" option rather than downloading to your hard drive which means that you are not using either bandwidth or clogging up hard drive space.

Here's a thought.

Upload anonymously, then transfer that link to your account for deep storage, which means unless they are tracking your ipnumber, your account is safe, and you can leave the anonymous upload up for as long as it likely to survive in the current climate risk free.

(There is no "real" risk.)

Pro'lly just me speaking out, silly fellow that I can be sometime, but truly, good sir, I think you should be the next President of Gallifrey! These ebooks of all the NAs, MAs, etc. have been nothing short of a godsend. I have all of them in paperback, but for fear of taking them out and about on the bus (or anywhere for that matter), I run the risk of their paper lives being shortened. However, the electronic ones allow me to do that regularly, as well as reading/re-reading any particular quote at any time at all. Surprised, really, that the Beeb hasn't taken this on for their own benefit, as it would be good for them. Ah well..

I don't know. I also prefer the separate track versions. It's much easier to skip the so called extras on them. And the probability is higher that the files have not been reencoded with lower quality, which can be very disturbing when listening to them with headphones as I do.

But I'm gratefull for every share, so there is no reason to complain.

l0calh0st: As always a massive thank you. I only wish I had the time to plow through these like you do!

I prefer the m4b files simply because I listen to them on an ipod/touch/phone/pad and having the stories in the least number of tracks possible clutters my itunes less. When I purchase the CDs I always separate the bonus features out so it's option on future listens. That said, a properly done m4b file will have the original tracks built into the book file so you can still just skip ahead to get past them.

jawamaster
03-15-2014, 07:56 PM
I prefer spilt files for personal use, however the single file is easier to upload (depending on the upload site) especially when it comes to box sets.
easier to upload 4 or 5 files as opposed to nearly a hundred!
Yes they can be zipped, but its still a pain in the rear!

What Jawamaster says...uploading a single file is by far the easiest option. Plus, as Drake mentioned, if you listen to stuff on an iPod then a single track can cause less grief especially if the file downloads as an "unknown" artist - then the individual tracks can be muddled up with other unknowns.

I prefer single tracks as it makes sorting them out on the ol' iPod much easier. Artist set as 'Dr Who' with albums of the various ranges. And 'remember position' is handy for coming back to stories you haven't finished yet.

There's probably many other ways of doing it, but it's the way that works best for me.

ffwho
03-15-2014, 10:20 PM
I like chapterized m4b. A audiobook like Shade is 10 cd's long, so making it 1 huge mp3-file or 10 separate mp3-files is not handy, but just 1 m4b with the 75 chapters makes it easy to 'read'.

Jamdoggy
03-15-2014, 10:25 PM
I prefer individual MP3 tracks, as you would find them on a CD. I think that the audios are put onto the CD as 'tracks', so why mess with the format that the publisher intended them to be.

Having said that, I don't mind one MP3 file per episode, part or even CD, although if given the choice, I'd always choose the full tracks.

A lot of the audios floating around the web have been 'AlbumWrapped' - I loathe and detest these with a passion! I will use ALBW (free software) to extract them, but AlbumWrap uses the ID3 tags to hold it's extraction info, and some people don't realise this and put their own info in there, thinking they're doing everyone a favour, but it means that those can never be extracted. I have a few items like this in my collection, and I'm always on the lookout for replacements.

All this, of course, means that anything I rip myself will always be 320kbps and individual tracks...

Yeah, I agree. With the m4b and single mp3 files I always go through and split them up into individual episodes, extras or chapters and delete the 'coming soon' bits. Obviously this means I have to re-encode them, losing some quality, but that's a small sacrifice to usability. I can't play m4b on my portableplayer and can't imagine a time in my life when I would ever buy an ipod - but I'm not starting that debate again....8-)

When I upoad, I always zip them up...only takes a minute to create a zip, not such a big chore!
However, I'm grateful for whatever anyone can manage.

... floating around the web have been 'AlbumWrapped' ...

Oh, man, on that I can agree. Track-v-Single is purely down to preference and circumstance so there's no definitive answer on that one, but. wow, that format is one of those that really seems to dictate "My Way Or The Highway"

Ok ... here's one for folks ... where's the "oddest" place you've heard an LC story?

I ask as we've spent the day rigging up a friends barn to listen to stuff over-night as we help with his lambing over the next week.

may not be the "oddest", just an event caused by timing and circumstance, and a situation that will stay with me forever!

Agreed 100%. I'm always going to thank and be grateful for anyone who posts anything I need, but I'd MUCH rather get the stories in tracks. I usually listen to the audios on a portable mp3 player. There are few things more annoying that accidentally hitting the next or previous track button, and then having to fast forward through 60 minutes of audio and spend 5-10 minutes to try to find where you left off! Also, I sometimes burn the stories onto CD's for listening to on long road trips. If the tracks are longer than a CD, that's difficult. And there's still the problem of accidentally hitting next or last track and losing your place. And it's quite dangerous to try to fast forward through a 70 minute track to dins your place while driving!

I really want to listen to The M*E@G$A, but the version I have is one 3.5 hour track! I just don't have the patience to deal with that. Has anyone posted a tracked version of that? Or even in episodes?

I prefer spilt files for personal use, however the single file is easier to upload (depending on the upload site) especially when it comes to box sets.
easier to upload 4 or 5 files as opposed to nearly a hundred!
Yes they can be zipped, but its still a pain in the rear!

If you use WinRAR, you can rar up a whole folder with one click from your Windows explorer menu (if you're using Windows.) I'm sure there are equivalent programs for Macs, too.
One rar file is exactly as easy to upload as one mpr or m4a or m4b file.
And it would be VERY much appreciated!
But again, thanks for everything you have posted!

l0calh0st: As always a massive thank you.

But the m4b is a format designed by Apple for Apple products. Like most Apple products, they're specifically designed to be less useful on products they they're not profiting off of.

If you're not listening on an apple product, then there are no tracks on an m4b file. I prefer not to waste money on what I consider to be dramatically overpriced products. (That's not a dig. It's just my preference.) Plus, I would rather go out with a cheaper product I'm not afraid to break or have stolen!

One of the things that I find annoying about Apple products is the lack of user choices in how the information is presented. The reason that multiple files "clutter up" your iTunes is because they've designed it in one way, and don't allow you to group your stories into less cluttered folders.

I HATE iTunes as a player, and never use it as such. But, of course, Apple does not offer a version of iTunes that just allows you to download the tracks and podcasts you want. You have to download a constantly uploaded 100+MB full featured player program that you don't even want. All because I want to subscribe to a few podcasts like the BF one.

That said, I still appreciate the uploads, in any format!

Here is a small update archive with some books I have proofread in the meantime.
Most of them are from the NA and MA ranges.
I usually find and fix something between 30 and 100 errors in each book.
The archive also contains an epub/mobi version of H_e_n_d_e_r_s_o_n_s free novel "D_o_c_t_o_r__W_h_o__a_n_d__t_h_e__C_y_b_e_r__W_a_r".

Thanks SO MUCH for these! I actually own all of the major who novels in book form, but have decided that I prefer reading the e-book (epub) versions more. And yours are definitely the definitive versions of these!

While trying to update my folders, I realized that I somehow missed a few of your previous archives. (All from one posting that I missed while I was away for a week. It can be hard keeping up with all the comments posted here!) I checked, and the original uploads are no longer available.

Is there any chance that you have these still up somewhere, or could kindly upload them if they're not up already?

The NA's.
The collection of D*E*C*A*L*O*G*S and ST's and the like.
And by any chance did you or anyone else ever post the BS NA's by virgin without our Medic?

Thanks so much for all you've done for us!

Ok ... here's one for folks ... where's the "oddest" place you've heard an LC story?

For me, the weirdest would be more about than situation than the actual location. And the fact that the stories made me cry in public.

In the first instance I was at a KFC in New York City on the way to an EDM music festival. The place was full of kids grabbing a bite on the way to the festival. I was listening to one of the Oliver CC's and got to the part where Steven talk about the deaths of the companions he's seen and how he couldn't take it if Oliver died, too. And I just started tearing up, in the middle of this restaurant full of kids all drugged up and drunk and ready to party!

In the second instance I was on a bus way out in the mountains of Japan, listening to the last story of the fairly recent 7 trilogy with the old gods. When it got to the tragic conclusion, I really started tearing up a lot. And here I was sitting on a bus with Japanese people in the middle of nowhere, with people looking at me, like I'm crazy! I could imagine them asking each other what this gaijin was doing crying on a bus far from any city in Japan! But the view of the mountains was spectacular!

Agreed that if the m4b file doesn't have chapters than it is just so darn annoying to accidentally push the next/prev tack button and lose your place. I now use a dedicated player for most of my audios and it's apple device for one very useful feature: The 15/30 second rewind button. I'm always getting distracted or hearing a loud noise and being able to just tap that button and quickly pop back a few seconds to listen again is just the best.

Done! Will PM the link - if anyone else wants this, let me know by PM - this is a torrent containing about 67 target novelisations audiobooks, so if you want it, you'll need a client, and patience (it's over 17Gb and will take me a few days to seed it, on my slowish connection).

Can't pm yet, but could I have this link, pretty please?
