When they did the Live! tour last year they released recordings of each venue / reader for a few days after each one.

Ahh... Now that makes sense was working as a delivery driver for a while last year and was in and out of the car often listening to the radio. Seem to remember a Phil Jupitus interview about HHGTTG.

Bum. I was going to give a list of who did the book last year, but the site doesn't have the readers for last year and just a "TBA" for the one this year.

Worryingly it's still got "TBA" for Zaphod. You can't have Zaphod without M-Wing-Davey!

Glad to see they've kept the original cast as far as possible. You're right tho, you can't have anyone but Mark Wing-Davey playing Zaphod. Sam Rockwell didn't do a bad job in the movie but he certainly wasn't as good.

Yeah, Salmon, but he was also trying to tie it into the HHG universe. The I-Ching machine in Teatime had the same SFX as the HHG, and Stephen Moore had a cameo in the background and was obviously going to be a template for Marvin. Re: Font--you're welcome. The more DW fans who have this, the better the custom cover community can be. :) There's a guy on Deviantart who does great alternate covers.

I had to mostly re-create the logos myself based on jpegs--your best bet is google searching for them; I had to do a lot of path-mapping/vectorizing to get them to look good. I also had to make the strip and find a headshot, etc. My 5th medic one is not the "official" one because I couldn't find it in good enough quality (but also because I find that image kind of creepy). I haven't added numbers to all of them just yet--Here's a PD example (that doesn't have a number):

The other "issue" is that there aren't good high-res scans of some of these covers out there, and I'm not really good enough to do a convincing one from scratch. Hence why one of the 4th Medic ones I posted before has a poor quality bg image.

When I get a bunch together I can zip them and upload them for those who are interested.

Most of these are for kids (which I'll be burning for the Greats), but there are a couple of others. I have an autographed copy of "Who is the Doctor" given to me by Mr. P. himself. He was a VERY nice man. I got a hug every time he saw me and he even let me wear the cape from The 5 Medix - very heavy and very hot as it was August in Texas. .

Yeah, the UK courts ordered internet providers to block another handful of torrent sites here last month too. All the decent ones are gone or blocked now:(

Things is, not everyone uses them to illegally download stuff. I often used them to download an ep of TV shows I missed and couldn't get elsewhere.

I snag a few things = the latest Medic ep for instance (I HATE the BBCA copies) but I always buy the season set when they come out & delete the other.

I usually just download, watch and delete. Sky TV often repeat their shows, but more often than not the repeat is on at the same time as another programme or it's on at stupid o'clock.

Good to see there are a lot of HGTTG fans out there, didn't know what I was starting when I mentioned that! Not joined in the last day or so as there was a lot of talk about the 50th show and although, from a very quick scan and hasty move, on everyone has been pretty good regarding spoilers I didn't want to pick anything up - even if it is rumour and speculation. If I could manage it I would be in a complete news blackout till the opening credits roll.

It took a while to find them, but as requested by redskutter a few pages back - here's both Tales From & The Fall of The Mausoleum Club, including the asked-for pilot ep - "Demon Cakestand" (& a very similar one-off, "The Teeth of Abbot Thomas").

Anyone who's not heard of it, but likes good radio comedy & gothic horror - give it a go, well worth it...

If anyone else wants Nebulous, I'm happy to up that, too.

You think that's bad? I live in another COUNTRY!!
Yes, very foolish of you as it means you cant watch tonight's ep at 1845 like any sensible person ;). almost like you need someone to hold your hand :p
but for the h2g2 performances, at least you know there is no hope, a clear "not gonna happen".
for me there is a "...and yet so far..." element of ennui that eats at the soul as it happens again and again for concerts, comedy tours etc.
it's just so depressing! here I am, fandom the size of a planet.......

While we're all still in a HHGTTG/Adams mood, here's a couple of related things people might be interested in.

First up is "The Guide to the HHG", a retrospective docco which, I think, should really have been put on the complete box set.

Also here is the radio tribute to DNA: "So Long & Thanks For All The Fish", which includes a complete version of his early panto spoof, 'Black Cinderella 2 Goes East'.

So, grab those lemon-wrapped bricks, and enjoy! RWQ

Sorry to be OT.
I just noticed that all copies of the MA novel 15 M*i*l*l*e*n*n*i*u*m**R*i*t*e*s I found so far are missing a bit just before Part 3. In the PDF these are the pages 269 and 270. There are two paragraphs which end in the middle of a sentence: "and cleansing and" and "And then the light".
Does anybody have a complete copy or scans of these pages?

Greetings,

As an aside, does anyone else do a lot of conversion on the audios they pick up? I have a whole folder that I dump them into and then convert a bunch at once; all my DWAs get turned into single-track 30 minute episodes, for example, in .mp3 (since I don't allow itunes to be installed on my computers).

Her is my first attempt. Not 100% happy with it but overall pleased. Let me know what you think
Thanks again for the font Stinkor

Rings was an abomination
that was....not bad
some more with old Blue not liking carla
more about her attitude, needing to be dared.....something there i feel....
the pacing was actually not bad, slower start but moved toward a frenetic conclusion
the editing was EXCELLENT, quick cuts around the monster made it scarier
creepy monster not properly seen, very "the thing". much more creepy.
final ending of "doing it all again" was......meh, but not ludicrous.

My random thoughts while watching

Hide
Good start
Crap joke, ruined the mood
Doctor is very irritating and fatuous
More fucking sonic crap and "scientists are boffins" rubbish
Matt Smith is now very irritating
Getting better now MS has calmed down, take that back he is crap and irritating. Clara good
Supporting cast v good
Creep factor getting better
Help Me! Good
Ohhh nice creepy hint re the Doctor
Impossible planet suit
Serious Doctor better by far
Lots of past references - great
Much slower pace and flowing better
Subset of the eye of Harmony!! Blue crystals a la Joe Grant
What is the point of the episode? Assuming every episode adds something to the series end?
Nice and creepy! Cloister Bell
Very good!
Ewww what's with with 'Happy ending"

Again an episode that was spoilt by manic Doctor in parts, trying for the jokes all the time and a dodgy knowledge of canon. If you are going to make get past references get them right (and pronounce them + show them correctly) But better than Rings of A

Yeah, there's that, too. But 'thematically' it feels to follow on better from Rings rather than C-War. Perhaps they decided not to have two slower paced stories back-to-back?

I didn't really think that it was a slow paced story. Or maybe it's just MS's frantic running around.

Maybe he's trying to find his 'thing'. If he is, I hope he finds it soon cos it's starting to get really annoying. :(

Definitely been used before, but I'll be buggered if I can remember where.

Everybody has their own way of handling their files. I only have a cheapo mp3 player and it makes it a lot simpler for me in the long run.

Yeah, I do it because I listen while working out and I get bored of listening to one thing longer than about 30 minutes at a time, so it makes good stopping point. I just thought it funny that we spend time undoing each other's style.

Must admit I much prefer individual tracks. Nothing worse than hitting stop rather than pause when it's a two hour long single mp3 file and you are faced with fast forwarding an hour to get back to where you were. Always split things back to chapter/tracks

I also think the worst thing that could of happened to Who is the success of (the WONDERFUL) Sherlock. Moffat oversees both and - from where I am sitting - he pays more heed to Sherlock than he does to Who. I look at the opening episode of this series (The Bells Of St John or Asylum depending on your view) which has been awful and compare that to Sherlock's Scandal In Belgravia which is perhaps the finest piece of British TV I saw last year.

I think it might be the case that he is brilliant as a writer when there someone else to give direction and structure to his hi ideas. Also he has too much on his plate at the moment as shown by this season being split in two for no reason. The plots, never mind the characterisation, direction and just the feel of this season have just been below par

There's obviously a hell of a lot of work involved in running the show, especially this year. Wtf is Moffett thinking taking the job on and then giving it half-assed attention?

actually i always figured that DT extra year of specials (so obvious the RTD planned to leave with "voyages finish") and the splitting of the series was so Muff could have his choice of medic reach his finale this year in november, that he is ballsing it up so spectacularly by doing a half assed job is just so disappointing

Personally I believe that Sherlock should get cancelled with immediate effect.

But this is mainly as I have an utterly irrational dislike of the series, even taking into account that Freeman (IMHO) has all the acting ability of a plank.

I honestly don't know WHY I dislike it so much, but watching it is like hearing nails down a blackboard.

That her basic story was "meeting the medic in the wrong order", (something which fundamentally undermines much of what had been established about "staying relative to the temporal position") just so muff could show off.

My constant frustration with the character over-all story is that I've NEVER been convinced that The Moff REALLY knows what her story is. And for a character with such a complicated relationship with The Doctor it's vital to actually KNOW what's going on.

Absolutely. The only sugar coating to the bitter pill of DT leaving had been Moffat was the showrunner. I thought the show would go on to build on what RTD and DT had done...I can only think of a handful of Moffat-era stories I like (A Time Of Angels 2 parter, Snowmen and Cold War).

Incidentally in my list I forgot to include the horse poop that was "The Dream Lord".

You know what it is?

I think with Moff's lot we have to mentally change gear. Stop thinking of each week as being individual stories, but as episodes as part of a bigger story. Like each 11th era Season has been "The War Games", if you see what I mean. The stories haven't really been written to be properly watched by themselves but only really in terms of The Season.

Does that make sense?

I think your second is more accurate
I don't think he has had a plan at all.
he seems to like being tricksy and and have a desire to fool the audience with clever twists, but it does need planning. it seems more like he just shoves in things which seem clever and has no idea how to resolve them so we end up with the mess of the Williams's departure story

I get what you mean. But surely each episode should be watchable by itself, but still tie together as a whole.

B5 is a perfect example of this - a single story arc running through 3 seasons, but each episode had a beginning, middle, end and made sense. It may have taken a couple of years for an early story to be fully realised - and hopefully the same will come true of DW (but I doubt it).

No, please don't get me wrong, you have - I just feel a bit sad that everyone seems to be disliking this era so much, when I'm enjoying it so much, that's all.

As I've said before, I really like the Moffat/Smith era, and while I agree there's been some stinkers (Victory, Black Spot, Rings), I really enjoy the majority. I've watched them all several times, and my opinion hasn't changed. I get the whole 'over clever' thing, I really do, and agree to an extent that he can sometimes go too far with the 'clever' stuff (I'll admit to being a little worried about the whole 'Name of the Medic' thing & certain rumours about the 50th), more stand-alones would be good, Alex Kingston is over-used, and so forth, but overall I like the 11th Doctor & his era more than the 10th and his, and for the most part I LOVED that.

However, I don't think it's fair to accuse Moffat of doing a half-arsed job, though, I really don't think he'd be that unprofessional. By all means criticise his style of storytelling, but that's a very different thing to him not giving a shit...

Whether I'll still feel this way in 10 years time, who knows, but I've always loved EVERY era of DW, no matter what the faults, so chances are I will.

Unpopular opinion: I enjoy Black Spot and the Pepperpots' Victory.

The only one of the most recent episodes I have enjoyed was Cold War. Then again, I adore the Mars Warriors, so I may be biased. But I thought Rings of Akhaten was absolute garbage; Bells of St. John was just boring to me (although I did enjoy Grant's cameo at the end); This episode just didn't make much sense to me and the whole other-monster-love crap was...well, crap. I'm worried about the next few episodes. Hopefully, the next few will be better than this first batch.

Another (what seems like a) unpopular opinion: I don't like Carla. I don't like the idea of the Medic falling in love with Carla. I don't like the Carla sub-plot. I do, however, love the fact that Blue dislikes Carla. Hopefully, it will stay that way.

SM era is also my favorite era (my first encounter to Medic is this era)

I just think fans (or people in general) have a tendency to post more frequently when they are dissatisfied with something. It's just human nature.
(I know I'm like that, anyway)
this pretty much sums it up

Fair enough - thanks for letting me whine, guys. And good to know I'm not alone! Feel better now.

Looking forward to this ep (I'm in Oz, and can't be bothered torrenting when it's on in just a few hours!). Then I'll go back and read all the spoilered opinions... :)

Don't get the feeling the Doc is falling in love with Clara. She's a mystery to him, and the Doc likes a mystery.

Don't forget - when they first met she was a Dalek on a planet put aside for mentally scarred Daleks and look exactly where she was: right in the middle of the high-security section for Daleks who had survived run-ins with the Doctor. Something pretty traumatic must happen between them at some point ;)

Next time they meet she falls to her death in Victorian England but then she's alive in 2013 with no memory of them having met before. With that, could you see him walking away from such a mystery?

I just hope the Clara sub-plot does get sorted properly and we don't get handed some weak cop-out again.

No, please don't get me wrong, you have - I just feel a bit sad that everyone seems to be disliking this era so much, when I'm enjoying it so much, that's all.
---
However, I don't think it's fair to accuse Moffat of doing a half-arsed job, though, I really don't think he'd be that unprofessional. By all means criticise his style of storytelling, but that's a very different thing to him not giving a shit...

Of course you can voice your opinion, a world where everyone thought the same, acted the same, felt the same.......very Mondassian, eugh!
and please dont ever let this place succumb to the "forum police". we'd all be banned for off-topic discussions!

A lot of the criticism of Muff (at least mine) comes from all the holes in his stories, the threads just dropped and left (as yet, (i'll give him a chance)) unresolved.
I'm betting a lot of people here feel like they have been let down by shows in the past few years, shows that said that they had a plan, but clearly were making it up as they went along
BSG - (how did they have "behind the watchtower as the tune to reveal the final five if the finale was that they landed on prehistoric earth?), or Lost (WTF! that ending was bullsh*t)
We had hoped that, what with Muff being such a fan, that he would break this trend of just shoving in loads of stuff and seeing what happened.
We fear that he hasn't, that he doesn't know whats going on. That his one big idea was the archaeologist and her wibbly wobbly timey wimey thing with the medic.

Its been said here before:
he can write a great line
he can write a damn fine episode
but not an entire series.

That he splits his time to work on sheerluck, another show with "twists and surprise the audience" at its heart, (note only two or thee eps per series so he can resolve all those twists), just suggests a lack of commitment to the medic.

Having said all that, even a terrible medic episode is vastly better than any soap opera or "reality" show.

Don't get the feeling the Doc is falling in love with Clara. She's a mystery to him, and the Doc likes a mystery.
Yeah, he seems to treat her more like an intriguing puzzle than a potential smooching partner. note the way he pulled his arm away from carla as he spoke of the monster's love story Perhaps he feels committed to the archaeologist.

I just hope the Clara sub-plot does get sorted properly and we don't get handed some weak cop-out again.
amen to that!

That's EXACTLY how I see it - there's no hint at all that there's a love story here, beyond Platonic, that is. He is fascinated by her, and cares about her, but I don't think they'll be going down THAT road again (thank god)! Look at how awkward he is when she hugs (not smooches!) him in Cold War. (& yes, I know there was a snog in The Snowmen, but that was Victorian Clara, and I'm getting the feeling there was something not 'real' about her...)

And yes, I too hope the resolution to her story is good, and doesn't drag out too long. I also hope she sticks around afterwards, cause I really, REALLY like her (and not just coz she's gorgeous)! Just hope she doesn't turn out to be a Dalek copy of Rassilon who is also the chief Silent and River Song's cousin... or something... :P

Ummmm, probably says a lot about me, but I actually didn't have a huge problem with BSG's ending, even though I agree it could've been much better, and I'm afraid I'm one of those people who liked the ending of Lost, responding to it more on an emotional level than a 'questions answered' level. And at least it ENDED, unlike other shows I could mention (*cough* Sopranos *cough*)

Having said that, if Moff tried something similar with DW, then he & I would have problems. I love his era, but I'd like at least SOME answers...

Just doing some now and finding it mildly pleasurable.

Must admit I much prefer individual tracks. Nothing worse than hitting stop rather than pause when it's a two hour long single mp3 file and you are faced with fast forwarding an hour to get back to where you were. Always split things back to chapter/tracks
I like to use Chapter and Verse to turn the mp3s into itunes friendly m4b files. Alternatively, if you join the mp3s with another program, you can right click the file and change the file type to audiobook.

You know what I want to see? A penalty for using the vortex manipulator. The medic keeps going on about how traveling without a capsule is bad. Yet, we keep seeing it used for instantaneous, guilt free hops with no consequences. The greatest ship in the universe can't enter a specific year in New York, but this tiny manipulator can! Why doesn't the medic keep a couple (or make ones) and save all the running. Oh yeah, it would ruin the plot worse than magic wand, er, sonic screwdriver does. So why not show a downside. Here's my idea: River passes go one to many times and becomes (techno babble which means she'll die in six months but has no immediate physical effect) and the medic doesn't tell her. He gets her the job which will eventual land her in the library and to celebrate he takes her to the singing mountains or whatever she sees right before she meets ten and dies. She's still free to meet future medics as an occasional guest star but the circle is still complete.

Exept that IS how the Sopranos was meant to end...

Just finished watching 'Hide', and thoroughly enjoyed it. Creepy, funny, touching, less rushed pace, excellent creature(s), and, above all, satisfying. I thought it all came together really well this time, and felt quite stand-alone for the most part. Impressed by the darker tone of the conversation in the TARDIS between C & the Medic - very ominous. A much better episode from Mr Cross, more the kind of thing he seems to be good at.

I don't think that can happen can it? as at some point in Clara's future she is destined to become a Dalek, or do the Daleks capture her and copy her memory into a dalek?

Has no one even thought that Clara might be his daughter, we have not seen or heard of her since that one episode, and she did survive and re-generate too, although why he would not detect her i am not sure.

I hope you are right. I get the feeling that there is going to be a love relationship between them. Two things make me think so:
1. Moffat's love-triangle comment between the Medic, River, Clara.
2. The Medic's comment to Clara at the end of Hide (Boy falls in love with girl...speech) seems to imply that the Medic has feelings for Clara. I hope I'm reading too far into it.

I wouldn't mind Clara so much if a love development didn't happen.

If anything I'd say that the series has been going out of it's way to make it clear that 11th isn't interested in That Sort Of Thing. He had to fight Amy off all the time, and more than a few times in 7B where Clara's flirted with him and he's done nothing but shudder. Even last night when he realised that having his arm around her could be miss-interpreted he quickly distanced himself.

Yeah, DoD is just time-travel.

The bit about ...

The time-traveller being related to someone in the main story, but not by so many generations.

... is kicking my 'heard this story before' nerve.

Stop kicking yourself. I remember sometime in the late 90's on a Sunday afternoon watching an episode of STNG on B*B*C 2 then switching over to Channel 4 to watch Stargate then followed by Andromeda. Believe it or not it was the same story in all three series in less than 3 hours.

But I can't believe no-one was around to tell MS how to say "Metebelis" properly!!

I agree this is much better from Cross, this is the ep that made Muff commission him to write Rings....Perhaps he was rushed on that one, or the creative well had run dry...

No she isn't!
you might as well say she is destined to get grabbed by an ice-nanny and plummet to her death.
The version who got Dalekified had a mum and dad of her own, a childhood on some colony planet equivalent of the sticks (with Nina), and signed up to be a "junior entertainment manager" on a cruise liner to see the universe; just as the Victorian version had a family, a history and a fate of her own.
The Carla who is now with the medic is a distinct individual, (and apparently "a perfectly normal girl"). whatever this carla ends up being it wont be owsin chatting to "the chin and the nose"
I'm truly sorry if that comes across as aggressive, it really isn't personal. please feel free to call me every name under the sun if it makes you feel better.
but I see people say this on many forums and it annoys the heck out of me.
mainly because i can't yet figure out WHAT THE FLIPPING F*C* is the deal with her.....pent up frustration gets vented.

I would note that while there is no news on MS, JLC is confirmed for season8 to be broadcast sept2014 so I'm betting she survives this medic.
