And bloody good it is, too!

Hope someone manages to by-pass the DRM and put a less regulated version up, but it's definitely worth registering to grab a copy to hear.

EDIT - Anyone worked out how to get this free with the offer if going via the iTunes store?

Looks like you need to join Audible to get it for free.

Yup. Which is annoying as I use the same account for iTunes. The Audbile app shows those I've also bought via iTunes, but I can't convince iTunes to play this one.

Also, could someone post 3.141857 Degrees of Killing on a share site besides 4shared. I know it's asking a lot, but I refuse to make an account on any of those share sites. That's why I like using Sendspace.

Hey folks,

I'm trying to amass a collection of classic comics, and the one I'm missing is called "Evening's Empire." It's from the Doctor Who Classic Comics 1993 Autumn Holiday Special.

Anyway, this site is the only place I can find any evidence of it ever being shared online, but the link is a couple years old and unfortunately doesn't work anymore.

Does anyone still have, and would they mind sharing it?

Thanks so much!

Would be great if it is back though!

Well, I guess it's time for me to ask for my usual requests. I'm particularly interested in fan anthologies, and this thread is the only place where I've ever found any. You'll have to forgive me, but I've let this list of titles rot for 13 days.

Okay, what happened to 4Shared? A thousand second, or sixteen minute, countdown unless I turned off adblock. Okay, I did. Just for that one page. And my god it was horrible. Maybe I just have a low tolerance for ads in the first place, but there was no effort to make them look at all fit with the rest of the page. Just plaster them wherever they could go. I'm not sure what the second link is, but WaƖкӏпg iϖ ⴹτeᴦпitү (and all the others on the above list) are short story fan anthologies. Like the old 10logs, or the more recent Short-lived Trips, but released by fans to gather money for charity. Despite being unofficial, most of them contain stories from established Medic writers.

Hells teeth, but they've really gone an farked that up, haven't they?

What gets me is that if the adverts were unobtrusive and didn't cover your page with various "your file is ready for download" links most people would be quite happy to carry on having adverts.

Though there is a level of potential confusion here, and I understand if anyone is scratching their heads at this point. PT was released in 1998, then reprinted a year later with the two additional stories. PT2 is yet another book with its own set of stories.

Maybe it would be easier if just the two additional stories from the reprinted version were uploaded somewhere?

It'll be interesting to see their new Kirk.

There's a vingette where the new Kirk shows up, bottom of the page called "Going Boldly".

I've good memories of some of the old BBS sites.

Had my own (only single line) one at home for about two or three months ... until I got a rather painful phone bill for the FIDO mail/files I'd been routing. We set one up for work, too, for keeping in touch when we were off-site.

Damned if I can remember which software I used, though. Been looking at the list of popular ones on Wiki and whilst Wildcat rings the most bells the screen shots don't seem right. Searchlight, possibly? Citadel as a name doesn't sound right, but the images match. So more than likely that one.

Procomm for the client, though. Loved that software. Was great for BBS' and had brilliant early adoption for Telnet services.

You know what makes me want to ignore your product? Ugliness and intrusiveness.

And we should all be ashamed of ourselves.

I'll tell you what pisses me off. Over here in Australia CDs, for many years, sold for $30 or more. That price is in no way reasonable. A few years ago they, finally, put the prices down to $20 or less - much more reasonable. Now, I guess, after years of being overcharged, people are saying "F**k you" - you ripped us off for so long.

Also, over here, they overcharge us for digital items. For example, songs on iTunes that would sell for 99c in the US, sell over here for $1.69c and up to $2.19c, even songs that are Australian. So many items over here are marked up for no good reason.

It's no wonder people pirate.

Though, I have to say that LC are one of the few companies that does have, on the whole, reasonable prices, and regular good offers. And I'm sure that we all do support them, as we can.

As to that article talking about lower quality. I'm quite deaf in my left ear (making some audios a bitch to listen to with headphones) and my right ear has deteriorated too. I used to be able to discern between bit-rates - now I can't (unless it really is a totally crap copy). So that doesn't bother me. It does help sometimes - one song on a Bond soundtrack, with someone playing a flute - I could always hear the intake of breath before each note. It really annoyed me. Now my hearing is so rubbish I can't hear that.

As to DVD vs Blu-ray. I do have some Medic on Blu-ray, but most is on DVD. No, it doesn't bother me watching in a lower resolution (again, in reply to that article).

Pirating movies does help me discern what's worth my money too. I've been burnt too many times buying a DVD of Blu-ray, to find it's not worth my money. And, no, I don't like renting movies on-line, especially with our pretty crap internet in Australia. Video stores charge too much to rent also - we've only got one near us now.

Well that's my whinge...

I don't judge anyone, don't worry. We all have different circumstances. I guess we will always support what we love anyway. This place also gives us the opportunity to try ranges we may not have normally listened to also. After all we don't all want to buy something, find out it's utter shite, and let LC think we all liked it because we bought it and make more shite. And, there are so many ranges - we're not millionaires are we!!!

I owe someone, not sure who, 1/2 a million dollars in fines for the first movie I downloaded, and another 1/2 million dollars for every subsequent movie after that I downloaded.

After you owe someone 1/2 a million dollars and there's no thinkable way of paying it off, there's really no difference between 1/2 a million dollars and 40 billion.

And we should all be ashamed of ourselves.

What a poorly-reasoned argument. Here's a point-by-point rebuttal.
1. It's Illegal! Except where it isn't. And backing up my legitimately-owned physical media is legal, and backing it up online is legal, and downloading it again is- piracy, apparently.

2. It increases costs of media. Bullshit. You're making the basic assumption that if I'm pirating, you're loosing (sic) money. That is, if I'm pirating I can't possibly be buying too. And my piracy can't possibly be inciting me to spend *more* money on your product. Well, as I say, bullshit. Putting prices up is a common reaction to decrease in revenue, yes, but show me definite proof that piracy causes profit loss. In my wide experience, piracy increases visibility, and since pirated copies are often lower quality than what you can buy, if people like the product they buy it. Just maybe not from your beloved big labels whose completely reasonable, not-stupid-at-all response to decrease in sales is increase in prices.

3. It hurts the companies that create Doctor Who. Again, this is assuming that piracy loses the companies money. Not much more to say on that.

4. It can be dangerous to your technology. Oh dear, downloading a thing made my computer cry. If you're stupid enough to download shoddy crap, you deserve for your computer to spontaneously combust. But that can happen opening your emails, so this argument may as well be used for why nobody should use the internet EVER.

5. Quality of the product. This isn't a reason why you *shouldn't* pirate, it's just a reason why you should buy legitimate copies. And I'm not arguing against that at all.

6. Piracy devalues media. Big Finish cancelled S&S because it wasn't selling, not because it was pirated. Correlation is not causation. I'll reiterate that pirating does not preclude purchase. Usually, it's either something the person would never have bought anyway, or something that they will likely purchase, but not without trialling first. Piracy as a trial is no different than checking it out from the library, but without the inconvenience of adhering to the library's restrictions.

7. Owning the physical media isn't an excuse. Piracy is bad, because owning a legitimate copy doesn't make piracy less bad. Do you see the circular reasoning here? "Piracy is bad because it's wrong and lazy." THESE ARE NOT ARGUMENTS. Why is piracy wrong if you own a physical copy? How does downloading a copy of something you legitimately own being laziness, make piracy wrong?

8. "The juice isn't worth the squeeze." Piracy is wrong because, while it's laziness (see above), it's also too much effort. o.o And may I mention, often piracy is WAYYY less effort than hunting down a legitimate copy. Especially when geoblocking is in, and geographical pricing renders everything stupidly expensive where you live. Or when you want to get your legitimately-purchased itunes crap on your non-Applefag media player, but can't because it's riddled with DRM.

9. Digital media is more than reasonably priced (in most cases). Except when it isn't (see above).

10. "Doing the right thing is cool." Piracy is wrong because doing the right thing is cool. Again, circular reasoning.
Basically:
if you pirate and weren't ever going to buy the thing, no loss.
if you pirate and buy, no loss.
if you pirate and would have bought but won't now because you've got a pirated copy and that's good enough for you, you're an arsehole.

My point is, piracy itself isn't the problem and never was. The problem is arseholes and always was.

Also- everybody says the film and music industries are going down the gurgler, and they all say it's because of piracy. They don't back it up with numbers, because it's a commonly-known fact. I really really don't like "commonly-known facts". This is a good article explaining my stance on the topic. (http://blogs.wsj.com/numbers/putting-a-price-tag-on-film-piracy-1228/)

timevortex
12-06-2014, 07:41 AM
The other thing I hate...you buy a record/tape and then they release a CD which, some would argue, is better quality. So you buy the CD. Then you discover that if you buy it at a different shop/country you can get some additional tracks, which you then hunt down and buy. Then out comes a special tour/remastered version so you buy that. A few years later they do a special edition with all the b-sides, so you buy that. A year or so later the price drops to half so that all the non-regular fans are encouraged to buy it (which really pisses you off)!
Five, 10, 20 years or so later they release an anniversary edition (in 4 or 5 different versions - with/without DVD/Book/t-shirt/novelty condom etc) which might have bonus live tracks/demos etc........

But you can't get just the extra tracks/discs without buying the whole shebang, and you can't get digital versions of the book etc......and they release them in weird cases that don't fit your CD shelves etc.....

and then they make YOU out to be a complete arsehole if you download a pirated version!

How many fucking copies do they want you (the true fan) to buy?

These fans that spend Bjillions of dollars on DW Merch, were turned on to DW by word of mouth and sharing. Do they really think we all just became fans by watching the random 3rd season episodes repeated out of order on PBS?!? People sharing what they love is EXACTLY what made you all those fans, and thusly ALL that money.

I don't buy his "even if you own a copy it's still illegal" malarkey. Case in point: I own physical CD-ROM copies of the superb Original Stellar Trehc games, but have never had any luck getting them to play on newer OSs. Digital copies over a Does-Bohx work fine.

I've bought every single Medic4 serial on R1 DVD. I'd like to have quite a few 2 and 3 serials as well... except they're out of print. And the $80+ per that scalpers are asking for goes straight to them, not to the auntie. This could be carried over to many classic films, as well. Want my money, media producers? I want to give it to YOU. KEEP YOUR MATERIAL IN PRINT!

I also have no qualms about obtaining a film when it's never even been available in R1 DVD/BR.

Any chance for a re-up?

I'll try to keep my eyes open over the week (and I do have a 4share account, so I can move them to my files in case I can't DL at the time) - or a PM with links would be awesome.

Keeping the material in print seems important.

We have to keep buying this stuff so that our children and grandchildren can still be in a position to buy it themselves again, since waiting to inherit the shit we won't let trickle down to them from our own rotting collections is NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN.

:)

2 years ago, my mother's 45 year old child bride, explained that for just NZ$300.00 that he knows a guy who can convert all his dozens(?) of audio cassettes from the 70s and 80s, really good/rare stuff he assured me, to digital format and burn all that onto CDs.

:)

I laughed, and laughed and laughed.

Another pet peeve of mine!

Walking in Eternity - Julian Eales (ed.) - 2001

In those wilderness years between television series, Doctor Who fans had to make their own stories. Walking In Eternity was an unofficial collection of wild variations on the theme of Doctor Who, published to benefit FSID (The Foundation for the Study of Infant Death). Walking in Eternity is now out of print and unavailable. Sales of the book raised over 2,000 for FSID. Walking in Eternity (http://www.factorfictionpress.co.uk/wine/)
A table of contents is online at: Walking in Eternity: Contents (http://www.factorfictionpress.co.uk/wine/contents.htm)
The foreword is online at: Walking in Eternity: Foreword (http://www.factorfictionpress.co.uk/wine/foreword.htm)
The editorial is online at: Walking in Eternity: Editorial (http://www.factorfictionpress.co.uk/wine/editorial.htm)

The anthology included the short story "CABINET OF CHANGES" by Philip Purser-Hallard. It is online in text format at: Doctor Who - "Cabinet of Changes" (http://www.infinitarian.com/cabinet.html)

Sorry, don't have time to look for more from the book. It is on my "WANTED LIST." But with only 2,000 in sales, How many could there be?

Oh yes, I've definitely seen various stories from the fan anthologies here and there. The authors occasionally post them. I remember seeing "Тea Wiτһ Ꮯᴛhulhᴜ" from Ꮇisѕ˛ng Ρiecеƽ, once. It was a Medic 7 story which took place during the NAs, with Kris and R. Forrester. I haven't seen it in ages, but I recall Medic 7 encountering Cthulhu in a dreamscape, and in order to keep himself sane in its presence he summoned and drank cups of practically every tea in existence.

Need something to fill the DW void for the next ten weeks? Then the new series on TNT 'The Liarbriariannas' could well be it.

As in ..

The Librarians (TV Series 2014? ) - IMDb (http://tinyurl.com/qedhykb)

Never seen the original three movies, but may well have to. Looks like series could fill the void left by the loss of W13, but there's a lot that as DW fans we'll probably enjoy, too, based on the pilot that was on recently. In fact, I'd say Take a handfuls of Indiana Jones, DW, W13 and SJS and blend it all together. Doesn't seem to take itself too seriously and looks as though it should be a fun 10 weeks, on the whole.

Oh, do! They're quite good fun. Don't expect too much depth of character. One of them (the weaker of the three) has got that woman from Castle in it. It seems they tried to replace the TV movies with another similarly styled quest set mainly in a hotel (in Scotland?) but it didn't work, so I'm glad to see The Librarian back as a series.

I owe someone, not sure who, 1/2 a million dollars in fines for the first movie I downloaded, and another 1/2 million dollars for every subsequent movie after that I downloaded.

After you owe someone 1/2 a million dollars and there's no thinkable way of paying it off, there's really no difference between 1/2 a million dollars and 40 billion.Yeah but, you still get to watch it right?

I'm going to be boring and say I wouldn't change a thing because the consequences are unknown and potentially devastating. For example you could kill Hitler and find out it was only his mistakes that lost Germany the war.

Having said that I'd prevent myself from walking into a tree in 1989, it happened in front of a big queue of people at a bus stop on the opposite side of the road and was quite embarrassing.

You're aware that the advertising you see on most sites is personally tailored based on the advertisers examining your publicly listed search histories with google?

Currently at the other place they are trying to sell me health insurance for pets I do not own.

A while back I spent a couple days trying a to find a new usable premium link generator to tackle rapidgator and uploaded, afterwhich every ad I saw for a month was trying to sell me portable gasoline powered electrical generators.

Which is another way of saying that you only get as many penises out of the internet as you put into the internet.

Glad your so happy with this site webs, I don't know why I'm constantly being assailed on it with potential adware come ons, but I sure as hell am every time I've logged on, and if you were at my place you see it for yourself.
We're both stateside so maybe it's location, I'm in the LA area and my browser is the current IE.
So maybe it's location and browser or either one, I don't know, but one thing I do know, I don't like to try other browsers either, since whenever I've tried them they too try to piggy back on other sites of questionable if not suspicious origin.
And indeed if the MY site is so ok, why do I only have this problem with "Myfreemp3" and not any other share site used here at shrine.

But I don't.

Moreover if the Mythree site is so superior, why doesn't everybody else use it?
But they don't either and - no offense meant to you dude - I hope they continue the same way.
However, I very much appreciate your feedback and enjoy chatting with you.

A re-post for you all.

LOOK WHO'S TALKING

Didn't think this belonged in the soundtrack thread and I've never seen this posted anywhere else before. Look Who's Talking is a collection of answering machine messages read by various Doctor Who actors - Sylvester McCoy, Colin Baker, Nicholas Courtney, Elisabeth Sladen and Sophie Aldred. It was a very limited release through DNA Productions back in 1998 (or so I'm told). I picked mine up at a Gallifrey Convention back in '00 and had it signed by the late Nicholas Courtney. My edition is hand-numbered as #0136.

Track 17 has been my cell phone voice message for over a decade. Love that track! Track 44 features the "regeneration" from Colin to Sylvester!

Something can be a fan production or a professional production, not both. When you pay for a licence, pay professional casts, writers, and other people working on it, and people pay to buy them, by definition you're not doing a fan production. And you can generally tell the difference between a professional studio recording and something someone whips together with a couple of microphones and a PC.

True, but - still run by a bunch of fans (a bit like the TV version!), mostly from BBV. Professional or not (& they are, no doubt), my point still stands. Case closed. (Also, bit serious an answer for a tongue-in-cheek question...)

I didn't think it was an argument. Differing opinions keep the world an interesting place. Superhero comics are written by fans, but they aren't a fan production. I dislike most fan PRODUCTIONS, but it's not a hard and fast rule. I think it matters how much time and attention a piece of material gets. And nothing can disguise bad acting in audio.

Thank you very much Ironhead2.

So that just leaves the following, if anyone out there has them? Thanks in advance.

Have Large Conclusions stopped doing subscriber specials (like last years "The Traail of the VeilYaard") with their December releases?

Apparently they've stopped doing then, but have dropped the sub price a bit.

Did you know that listening to IW's "The Claus Of Santer" whilst doped up on Maxi-Strength Lempsip and somewhat drunk on Penderyn is somewhat of a surreal experience ....

In 2013, the sub special was listed as "night of the storm crow", which was the previous years special. In actuality it turned out to be "trial of the valyard". Similar occurence the year before. This year the sub special is listed as "trial..." so it stands to reason that it will be a last minute surprise as to what it actually is, just like the previous two years. Since there is a sub special listed under the new release section, I imagine we will get something.

Just finished Dork Ise 3. Where was the Doctor? Where was Molly? They shoulda just called this one "The Moster & Liv" - considering they both got more lines than our main characters.

Now I'm 15 minutes into Hiest Siense, and I can't seem to make head or tails out of anything going on. Who are these people? Where are we? What's going on? Why should I care? LC might want to learn how use a tiny bit of exposition. Not to mention the amateurish sounding sound production. (Wasn't I just praising their production values a few posts ago?) Explosion 10 minutes in nearly blew out my eardrums! And there's so much effect on the main baddie's voice that I can only understand 2 out of the 3 words he says.
