As far as comedy, I don't think there's anything more over-the-top than ecapS ni nosirP and rekamgniK ehT! The former (a stunning example of political incorrectness!) has drag, spanking, Amazonian female guards in skimpy fetish wear and Two being chased amorously and hanging off a naked statue... The latter is Ricardian revenge fiction on Shakespeare (with quite the twist!). The funniest is the scene with Richard seeing the actors portraying him. LOL. And, oh, yeah, Culshaw and a Northern chap with big ears show up.

Yeah, there's not much of anything serious in this lot.

And if the preview was anything to go by, this month's CC is basically DW does Smile Time--this is going to be another contender for silliest audio (it looks like it's pretty much going to be Katy doing silly voices--see her voicing the Gel Guards in the commentary!).

I'm aware this is somewhat OT as it only has to do with LC as opposed to LC & the medics, but -

Since they are obviously done with the grumpy law enforcer series I shared a few pages back and I needed a Toby Longworth fix, I went hunting and ended up buying the 2 H-i-g-h-l-a-n-d-e-r episodes he was in, then downloaded the rest of Series 1 (torrents) because incomplete sets bug me. Should anybody want it, let me know.

Going completely OT, I also own all the Warhammer 40 000 audiobooks TL has narrated-slash-performed. You can find the list here (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Toby_Longworth#.UTmxujBmh8E). For now the writing's excellent. The concept behind them is too testosterone-driven for my liking though so despite my almost naughty appreciation for That Voice, going through them all has been... a process. The point being, anyone who's into the "War! Honor! Let's die like MEN!" genre and wants them should say so.

Hello... i would be interested in the low lander series i think. if it's like the films and not the *shudder* tv series. though i think that may have something to do with my mancrush on christopher lambert ;)

your TL fixation reminds me of Fran in Black Books. Would you listen to him reading the shipping forecast too? :)

and, while we're OT, I'd heartily recommend the new pirate story version that's not long out... i can help you there if you like

Ah, well. The only reason I'm familiar with HL is the second movie which I saw as a child. I never attempted to watch the series because Adrian Paul just looked and sounded so WRONG to me after Christopher Lambert.

your TL fixation reminds me of Fran in Black Books.

Would you listen to him reading the shipping forecast too? :)

Depends on how he'd render his voice in the process. I'm now familiar with maybe 20 different ways (some of which managed to trick even my good ear into not recognizing him), and a couple of them put enough of a tingle in my tummy to make the shipping forecast idea seem moderately intriguing. Especially compared to listening to him do margarine commercials (which I've done).

As long as you're not concerned about being mistaken for a representative of Westboro Baptist Church?

And thanks, Foe! Since my fortunes are gradually improving, I was preparing to share the CC myself, but given my usual only-have-bandwidth-on-weekends issue, I'm invariably beaten to these things. I'll at least try to keep an eye on requests for older material during that window... It's the downside to living in the middle of nowhere. And everyone here is just so damn fast! Excellent choice. There are some really great episodes of that show, while some are fun just as a bit of history of the genre. My favorite in the latter category was an episode where a starship is lit by oil lamps(!) while the crew zooms around the galaxy. Seriously, it's a very cool show. With refreshingly good production values and acting.

Paste in the url of the file - click 'Download'
Wait for it to do some business - you'll see a horizontal time bar gradually fill with red
When that is done click 'Begin Your Download' (the button doesn't appear until it is done)
It downloaded a weird file called index.php
Change the .php extension to .rar and then open as normal

To everyone who has posted in the last year... I'd like to thank each and everyone of you. The reference is remarkably spot-on so far.

he now reads the shipping forecast so she takes herself off to bed with some red wine and radio 4... ;)

LOL! I was recently called "demonstrably insane" over the fact W-a-r C-r-i-m-e-s is the Dredd story I always choose when I want to fall asleep to that LC series (it got even worse when I innocently explained I've never had a single nightmare as a result). I need to try the Fran approach. It would have to be something less brilliant so I can safely ignore the content, focus on the voice and see what happens. :D B-l-o-o-d W-i-l-l T-e-l-l might do the trick. Rather useless filler but it's 90% Toby. (Thanks for the idea!)

I can't find the post anymore, but right before I headed for the door I noticed someone asking if the Ciaphas Cain BL story is any good. I think even if I were a fan of WH40K, the best I could say about that one is "it's so-so". It dragged on for a while, then there was some action (that I didn't get into, but that might be just me), then it was over. I actually had to look it up to remember which one you mean, which is not the best of signs.

One thing about Rapid8 is that I like to run a malware scan after using them. Not saying it's a malicious site, but AdAware usually turns up a bunch of tracking cookies after I use it. As for Sendspace, I've found it to be one of the most reliable and easy sites to use, though I'm using Firefox with Adblock on Windows and Opera with some adblocking capabilities on Android. Still, it's an absolute breeze on both. Just thought I'd share. :)

Ah, that was me asking about the Ciaphas Cain story. Sad to hear it's not so great. I'm not really a fan of 40k, but I looked into Cain out of curiousity as I'd heard good things about that particular bit of the franchise. I guess I'll save the audio for a rainy day. :)

I'm not saying that all the covers are there but I have reason to think that the majority of covers are available if you know where to look.

I have put a link in RWQ as an example.
<!--http://www.bigfinish.com/img/release/607-theanachronauts_cover.jpg/-->

Thank you but what I was hoping for was the secret to finding these on the website. I looked around and I can't find any link for that title which produces a cover anywhere near that large. Googling it will return a result from the LC site but only for the common size. What am I doing wrong?

Contributing in my (very) miniscule fashion, I bring you a delightful treat! A graphical novel microseries... let's call it "the Misplaced", done to celebrate the 45th anniversary, featuring the 10th doctor on a romp through the memories of his past selves, newly digitalized and looking far better than existing versions out there!

My (very) small way to thank you charming fellows for all I've received in return.

RQW Enjoy! Be sure to uncheck the box that suggests, in an oh-so-friendly manner, to download an accelerator. As long as that's unchecked, you'll receive nothing unwanted.

I'm in the process (& have been for a while) of trying to get a complete collection of the TP comic strip pages that appeared in the UK magazine Look-In between 1973 & 1978

Can you have a look through any other sites that you are members of or empty out those boxes you have stashed in the attic & see if you have any that I need. The magazine was published weekly & numbered 1-52, then the numbering restarted at no 1 with each new year- the strip had 2 pages per issue

Here's a list of all the issues I need (I'm only looking for the 2 page TP strips- not the whole magazine)
year.........issue number
1973 – 33, 34, 35, 38, 40, 41, 43, 47, 52

1974 - 01, 02, 04, 05, 24, 25, 26,29, 44, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52

1975 – 01, 02, 07, 13, 17, 29, 45, 47, 52

1976 - 08, 10, 11, 13, 19

1977 – 27, 28, 29, 30, 35, 39, 49,

1978 – 05, 06, 07, 09,11, 12, 14

1978 Summer Special- I only need page 4 of TP strip as I have the rest

I know its a long shot asking but you never know ya luck

Thanks for having a read of this

On the page with the show details; if you right-click (PC) or Ctrl-Click (Mac) on the image and select "Open in New Tab" or "Open in New Window" - it will open the image without it being embedded in a flash frame. Then, in the nav bar, delete "_large" from the file name and hit return and - bingo - you are taken to a 1495px 1483px image.

For example:

"" = 605px x 600px

"" = 1495px  1483px

I am finding that I love the J&L stories more and more with each release. The folks at Large Endings really made a great choice for a spinoff series when they chose them.. As far as I'm concerned, I would have traded in ROSE b4 Martha anyday. I thought she was quite good as a companion, had much more depth than Rose and made a few really good appearances in TW. BTW, if Rose ends up in the 50th I think I'll go on a rampage. She is way too predictable. Would have been wonderful if she would have died "saving the universe". Maybe we could have had CE a little longer. The old "Rose is my saviour" thing is really old. Would have been happy with a season less of Rose and a season more of Martha. :)

Yep! If ever there was a character that really stayed beyond her welcome then it's Rose.

I always thought it was a bit of a smack in the teeth for Catherine Tate / Donna that she was STILL hanging around like Banquo's ghost to upstage her.

Personally, I tired of both Rose and Martha long before they left as companions. Both started as good companions, and the characters' definition seemed to decline in proportion with the growing of the actors overinflated egos. I would NOT miss either of them in the anniversary special/s. I will notice the missing Sarah Jane Smith and some of the other former companions who have passed, but perhaps there will be others returning to fill their empty spaces.... i.e. Tegan, Nyssa, Jamie, Sgt. Benton, Jo Grant, etc.
With the long list of the best companions of the medic (I know the haters are gonna hate this), I would place Rose and Martha near the bottom with Turlough and Dodo :)
But, I am sure that every Doctor Who fan has their own personal favorites and I'm not trying to knock anyone's favorites or their subjective perspectives. REGUARDLESS of whom a Fan is wanting to see again, let's all hope that "the light at the end of the tunnel" will make all feel satisfied!

While I disagree about the acting completely, I've also never quite understood why they made such a fuss about Sally Sparrow. Her story was told. She wasn't really designed to be a companion. I can still remember the long ago days when Nancy from The Empty Child was being hailed as a should-be companion, those were the days when we still thought we might get a non-centemporary companion and I'd still much rather her than Sally Sparrow. Although that might be part of my lonely rear-guard action defending The Empty Child/ The Doctor Dances as still the best Moffat story of them all...

by CE i assume u mean Eccleston, if that's the case then no, we wouldn't of had him a little longer. he only took on the role as a favor of to Davies, when he started he put his foot down, he told Davies he was only in it for ONE season, after that they would HAVE to find a replacement...FYI, he doesn't even like Doctor Who...he respects the Doctor for the character that he is, that's about it.

Not to be a needy bastard, but did the bonus record of the two Victorian gentlemen get posted? (I may have missed it)

On aniother note, I'm rather delighted to know my disdain for the florally monikered friend is not a unique occurrence.. Call me a purist, but I've never been partisan to the idea that the Medic's show should be about his romantic entanglements. All 10 and 11 seem to do is drool over/mope over their dearly departed friends, and it's the main reason why I cannot profess a love of these last Medics (at least not on par with the originals). Bleh I say!

To be honest, I only managed to get through the first 2 eps (due to lack of time), and I can't say I felt all that drawn in. Still, it's the first 2. We need input from someone with far more TP experience.

Nancy? No sorry can't see it myself :)

See what I mean, rear-guard action :) I'll always believe it could have worked..certainly better than Sally Sparrow, or whichever new character takes the should-be companion crown...

I honestly can't bring her to mind!

I wouldn't entirely agree about it being his best story, but it's certainly a runner. And Capt Jack was a much better character before he became a caricature of his actor.

Well that throws my theory for a loop. She was the Empty Child's "sister" (avoiding spoilers for a 8 year-old story on a DW forum is probably silly but I've learned that lesson). And as for Capt. Jack, I couldn't agree more.

Yes I know that I was only talking about the "in-universe" story. The Medic regen'd because he had to save Rose from an overload. Taking away the fact that Eccleston didn't want the part anymore, I'm only saying that 9 could have just let her die and not have regen'd. Would have been better and a really nice exit. Let's be serious Sara Kingdom only survived as a companion because she died. Otherwise, she too would have been a Dodo or Turlough or Adric :)

When i was working in Blackwell's only science fiction specialist shop, we stocked all the LC range, and often borrowed the Yesterday series to have a listen [for professional reasons of course!] I enjoyed them, as the series went into more adult themes, such as the politcal ideas of the Great Galaxy hub, and one ex team member went to the "dark side"... so give em a shot, if you remember the TV prog!

I just hope they've finally gone away from the companions simpering over the Doc. Rose was starting to get on my nerves with it, and I hated Martha from day one, but I thought Donna was a breath of fresh air. Amy kinda started down that path but the whole dynamic changed when Rory joined them. Right now I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Oswin/Clara does NOT become that kind of companion.

The first few are a bit 'ropey', and (in all honesty) some of the acting is bloody awful from some of the original TPs, but the series as a a whole is well worth it.

It takes a much darker turn than a kids TV series could ever do, and that leads to some very powerful performances from the main leads.

Just to make sure, The future Folk is the series with Dredd Judge correct?

And I agree as a fan of the old series, these new companions have annoyed me half to death. Rose overstayed her welcome, Martha started to do the same, Donna was alright, Amy was decent, Rory was interesting, Jack started out good, then got back, and Mickey....he wasn't really there.

Oswin will hopefully break the trend, but if I was to judge by the christmas special, looks like another Rose.

While we are on the subject of companions I'd just like to say that for me Amy was and always will be the perfect companion, Dodo was never given the opertunaty to progress because Steven was to all intents the main charater of his and her storys, the character of Adric should have been laughed out of the production office and Rose comes at the very bottom of the list.

Yeah, but we already know that she's got some complex destiny type back-story. It'd be nice to have someone along who's just there for the journey, not some Epic Reason. A latter-day Sarah-Jane.

From a writers point of view they have to pander to a wider audiance, the concensus is that a decent story needs a love interest or at least a hint of one, and ohW rotcoD is no ecception. They did the medic and companion angle first, then amy & rory, so what next? Maybe they have now realised that the programme can stand on it's own merit and moved away from such belief. Clara, from what we have seen so far is a very independant individual, very much her own girl, so perhaps we will get our wish.

A *new* series may need 'A Love Interest' (and that's debatable) but an established character and series such as this certainly didn't need it. I'd say the series would have stood up just the same had Rose and The Doc not gone all lovey-dovey. Arguably she'd have been a better companion standing on her own two feet.

As for Clara - yeah, she may be an independent type, but she's still 'saddled' with that complicated storyline it looks like we're in for.

Yes I agree that the series didn't need it from a fan point of view or even for a fan of the sci-fi genre in general, and yes the love angle annoyed the hell out of me too, but the BBC needed to attract a wider audience and move away from the "childrens seriel" (wrongly labled I know) that the series had been labled with for years.

As for that complicated storyline, well time will tell.

When absolutely every plot is super complicated and over-the-top, and every girl that comes along is a romantic interest, it really cheapens it.

I agree that it's gone too far but I had no problem with the way they originally went with Rose & Martha! I always remember that, after cheap monsters & special effects, The Doctor showing no interest in any of his companions was the main thing the show was constantly mocked for by the media & general public! Older fans didn't like it but it made sense to address that issue for a modern audience!

I definitely hope not (about Oswin/Clara) although to be honest, I'm quite afraid we'll get more of the same. I'm expecting something like this for the season finale: "Don't worry, Doctor, I'm your long lost ex-wife that got unstuck from the Time War through a crack in somebody's wall and after going thru a chameleon arch, I was able to drive myself to the end of time until I inadvertently opened up a watch and BANG! I remembered all about our kids and grandkids and here I am, I just can't die! Not until i save the universe..."
