Ok, so what I infer from the various answers to my inquiry is that series 1 and 2 are well worth a listen, 3 is ok but a bit ponderous, and 4 is either take it or leave it. Thanks for input. I'll take into consideration.

But that's only our opinions. Best approach is to listen to them all and make your own mind up. 4 isn't bad - it just doesn't fit in with 1-3, which make up one huge story arc.

Could I ask what people's favourite Classic Who serials are?
I should really start on them in proper because otherwise I might never get to them (on the account that I can't seem to stop listening to LC/reading le books).

Green Death is often overlooked in these lists IMHO. It's Pertwee at his best! Great cliffhangers, meaningful story and a sentimental ending. Love it!

I can't truly weigh in on any favorites as of yet, since I've only recently begun watching all "50 years" - in order - from the first (un-aired) episode.
At present, I'm hip-deep on medic # 2, having just thoroughly enjoyed "€nemy 0f the W0rld" & "Web 0f Fe@r". Now on last episode of "Fury fr0m the D€€p".

Of course, I was watching the 4th medic when I was a lad, but then lost touch since "Medic WHAT" wasn't played in the USA... (except Medic 8's "movie") until Medic 9.
And I've been hooked again ever since!

I could probably pull together a list of my faves up to the moment, but it would be just of first 2 Medics, since I no longer recall specifics of the 4th Medics episodes from my youth.

I listened to the LC adaptation of the NA novel Love and War last night and I'd have to say that it was absolute rubbish. The pacing was too slow and, despite being the introduction of Bernice Summerfield, the overall story was weak and unexciting. It wasn't nearly as bad as that other alterniverse story Death cms 2 Time but very nearly. It reminded me why I never really got into the NA novels back in the day. The characterization never seemed quite right.

No, I haven't. As I recall I only ever read three of the NA novels - Parts One and Three of the TimeWorym story and one of the Cat's Cradle entries. I wasn't particularly impressed by any of them and more or less avoided any of the NA's from that point on. I did read and enjoy a number of the Missing Adventures though, as they seemed to capture the flavor of the TV series in the way that the NAs never manage to do. If the NAs had managed to stay truer to the spirit of the TV series I might have read more of them.

If the NAs had managed to stay truer to the spirit of the TV series I might have read more of them.

The first few VNAs were, I think, not particularly representative of the body.
The best of them were similar in tone to the Seventh Doctor PDAs.

There's a logical progression of character development that continues where the TV series left off: Seven becoming the chessmaster, taking on the big boys; the inevitable repercussions wherein his interpersonal relationships take a hit as his companions object to being used as, and apparently considered no more than, pawns; the situation reaching a tragic, possibly avoidable tipping point; the fallout (in more ways than one); the reconsideration of priorities and modus operandi; the eventual redemption of forgiveness but incomplete trust thereafter.

There's the lovely arc that explores the Doctor's origins, a continual exploration of what constitutes life and self-determination, and Benny, Roz, and Chris.

It's definitely worth reading them, just bearing in mind that they do diverge somewhat from the canon of NuWho.

Bellow will get you up to date.

Millions of years ago a space station held the universes worst viruses. Time travelling Daleks blew it up, and the viruses were flung through space and time. 8 foot tall bipedal unstoppable armoured things called Vyrons spent the next millions of years collecting and sterilizing those viruses before any one of them could wipe out all life in the universe and covering up any evidence of their presence by altering minds. Through a stunning twist of chance the Vyrons took Charlie as their assistant upon threat of death, and then they altered the 6th Doctors memories to have no recollection that they had ever travelled together.

Very tidy.

But seriously, just send a weekend listing to the original media. :)

It's not that the story doesn't make sense, because it's really quite straight forward, but without the earlier works, you don't have a reason to care a lick about what's going on in this boxset.

From Doctor Who News:

Lost in the Dark Dimension
Sunday, 11 May, 2014 - Reported by Marcus
Lost in the Dark DimensionA new fan made animation of the unmade thirtieth anniversary story Lost in the Dark Dimension is being released on YouTube.

The story was originally written in the early 1990's, by journalist and long-time Doctor Who fan, Adrian Rigelsford and commissioned by BBC Enterprises as a direct to video release. The production was intended to be released to celebrate Doctor Who's thirtieth Birthday in November 1993.

The project was abandoned after it encountered a number of problems including issues on actor availability and problems with rights to the series which resided with Philip Segal who was attempting to interest American producers in a co-production.

A team of professionals and amateurs are now working together to try to complete an animated version of the story. Part One has now been released on YouTube and features Big Finish veteran Paul Jones as the Fourth Doctor, with theatre performer Jennifer Knighton and video game actor Graydon Schlichter also appearing alongside a complete cast of other semi-professional actors. The animation is being produced and directed by James Walker and Jay Hale.

Part One is now available on YouTube (http://youtu.be/rilhirixZxs).

I'm honestly amazed how well it's turned out though!

I haven't had a chance to see this yet, but given that it's you, I'm looking forward to the album release :-)

When will the movie be available, do you know?

Speaking of the MEGA dilemma... Sadly, due to the fact that my system is unable to be upgraded (a Mac G5 ppc with No pentium chip), I can't DL anything from Mega. It won't support my outdated browsers (firefox & safari) :-(

Have you tried the mac version of jdownloader?

I had the same problem (using an old Mac OS) that wouldn't support newer browsers and JDownloader works fine for me.

I went to the wrong page here, thinking it was current.

Half way down, Goldie was asking for contermausyres.

For a second I thought she was back from the dead, when it was just silly me who was time travelling.

JDownloader.org - Official Homepage (http://www.jdownloader.org/download/index)

Meanwhile this premium download link generator "says" that it handles mega, but I haven't tried it. (Although I have used this service with several other filelockers with appropriate success, but just not with mega.)

Unrestrict.li | Download | Unrestricting your links! (http://unrestrict.li/download)

(free membership required.)

Rapid8 8 makes the same claim

Rapid It! Free Premium Link Generator. Fast Direct Download 2014 (http://rapid8.com/)

But rapid8 makes restrictions on data limits per hour.

To add to what Guy said you could also try running a portable version of the web browser off a USB or your computer, maybe or if all fails you could use a torrent client to grab the same copy of the file from a peer. :u

EXCELLENT suggestions! I shall give them a go.

Same here.

I'm only half-way through CD2 but I get that same feeling I had listening to the first bunch of C-Messures ... that there may well be decent story hidden in there, but it's struggling to find any real energy to engage me. But I'll carry on and, hopefully, it will (like CM) find its feet eventually.

But in terms of 'first impressions' ... I think I'd actually rate this lower than ... well ... lower than G-Less!

And before anyone leaps on me ... LC do do some outstanding stuff, so when you hit something that you consider it a bit of a clunker it always feels that much clunkier due the high standards you're used to.

I *generally* enjoyed the Lipf storyline. It wasn't GREAT but I have a soft spot for the various Non-TV series companions - They have a LOT of competition for fan love in comparison to the normal crowd.

With the exception of Ms Smythe. Who is universally adored from everything I can tell (deservedly so).

Somehow managed to just finish the last story in this set. I enjoyed that as the stories progressed they became increasingly reliant on the Medics namedrop to keep things going. That is some real faith in your writing and actors

I have nothing against the non-TV companions. I've quite liked most of them, especially Ms. Smythe and Miss Miller. Flipper I like as a character....it's just this second round of stories featuring her that I have fault with. They were weaker by far than her debut round of stories.

The extended version runs about 2hr30min give or take a few minutes. Ignore what the length says on the page. It is the full version. I wouldn't post any link without checking to make sure it is complete.

I'm wondering about this. I know that it was originally a flash animated special on the web originally at about an hour.

Then they released it on a 2 CD set. The CD's were about 1:02 and 1:07. The first one was all story. The second one had about 30 minutes of story, with the rest extras.

So, is this even longer than that? If so, any idea where it came from?

I'd download it and try to find out. But Malwarebytes is blocking the last page for the downloads. So I'd prefer to be sure that I don't already have this before risking it. After all, almost all of these sharing sites are overflowing with ads with malware in them.

Thanks!

Finished the Adventuress Adventures ... and ...

The worse thing a release can do for me is to get to the end and just go ... "Oh. Was that it?"

Which is what this did.

I'd honestly prefer something like G-Less where I got to the end of the first set and knew perfectly well why I didn't like it. At the very least it provoked an emotional response, albeit a negative one. It made an impact. Even though I wasn't enjoying it, the series engaged me enough to keep listening.

Which is, I suppose, sort of a good thing?

Or C-Measures and their first set. I found that hard to get into at first, but stayed on, and got to the end thinking 'Ok. I think I see where they're going with this. Could be a fun, if somewhat leisurely, ride.'

But this set for Ms P?

Got to the end and, honestly, couldn't have cared less. Absolutely no emotional impact at all.

Some good performances, one utterly terrible bit of acting, but the whole is less than the sum of the parts.

Despite never really being behind the idea of hearing what happens to her after leaving Six, I honestly feel that the character deserves better than this bland mess.

So maybe, after all, it has an emotional impact.

If beige is an emotion, mind you.

My own little nitpicks
DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED THE RELEASE.
Mr. B voicing the villain in the final story was horrible. I recognize he is a valuable member of LC and I recognize his talent, but I am sure they had access to any number of actors that could have done it without resulting in the feeling of "Him again?".

I feel like it was largely a mess because there really isn't any need to do a CP series. Her story ended. She didn't die. That does not mean that everything after would be interesting or even mildly exciting. This series practically BEGS to tell us exactly this information. They brought her back because people liked her stories, they didn't bring her back because they had stories to tell.

The very rare occurrence happened to me where I actually just preferred the Bonus material and listening to the actors talk. I have no idea what stories they were talking about, since none of them were even SORT OF as interesting to me as it seems they were to them, but hey I like listening to people talk about their work.

I do wish they had gotten into the reasoning behind the music though, because that was hands down the worst stuff LC has put out so far.

Hi. I'm new to this thread, and obviously a fan of Large Conclusion's Medic ? range, and am willing to contribute and whatnot. Just letting you know so that you can all fill me in on the rules and such. Obviously, I've already picked up on the pseudonyms, but I would really hate to screw up the thread after 936 pages...

The CC stuff is my most looked forward to release monthly. I love hearing the old companions and I love that LC has given all fans of the Medic a chance to spend some time with them.

Hopefully the New Adventures series of fullcasts continues in this vein and delivers some great stories to replace this audio treasure.

Well, given what inspired them to make the New Adventures range were their 1st, 2nd and 3rd Medic stories in the Lost Stories range, I've got some pretty high hopes.

There aren't really any rules apart from the site ones.

Be nice to people, even the ones that annoy you.
If you're referring to a Large Conclusions title/etc try to type in in such a way that it wouldn't get picked up on by a search engine.

And enjoy :)

I'm sure somebody has already mentioned this but does anybody know what happens to the 3rd medic stories now. there's nothing in the early adventures with him featured. I thought LC might have used Tim Treloar who played him in the 50th audio. if WR and FH are playing the 1st and 2nd medics in the new stories I cant see how it would hurt.

Here it is, the only two pieces they made. I wish they would have done more, just like with the Stranger audios. Sadly, it seems like the director of BBV was not a greatly honest guy and that he kind of ripped of Nicholas Briggs (I suspect the launch of Big Finish may have something to do with it), which explain why there were no more "guy who wanders around" audio.

Found this interview excerpt from Nick Briggs concerning the "Fred" stories

Do you feel that the two Fred plays were a continuation from the end of the AVs?

Thats what Bill wanted. In many ways, I was very uncomfortable doing them. But this was when I thought there was no hope of the BBC doing or licensing new Who audio. Bill was worried about getting sued by the BBC, so he wanted to further distance his Who Clone products by casting someone who hadnt been the Doctor (officially) Me! I was very reluctant, but Bill was relentless and persuasive. I was doing Children In Need with him at the time. Hed given me a lot of very well paid work on that (for which I was and am extremely grateful) and consequently I felt it was almost ungrateful for me to say no. I kind of felt obliged. He would phone me very early in the morning (he was doing Breakfast TV editing), when he knew I wasnt yet up, and give me a psychological battering. He was very determined. He *is* very determined. Its his great strength; but its a bit wearing at 7am! He told me to write Doctor Who, but find some clever way of making it lawyer-proof!

Did you enjoy making Cyber-Hunt?

Yes. It was great fun. Bill did the recording and I directed. We worked very well together. Bill has a very good ear for picking up on stuff that is monotonous and needs a change of pace. He was also very good at suggesting extra lines so that certain characters were more obviously in a scene from the beginning. Its a common fault with audio writers that they forget that a character is invisible if they dont speak.

To what extent were the original team involved? (Bill, John, Alistair etc)

Just Bill and me. I did the post-prod editing and Harvey Summers did the music. It overran a little, which Bill really moaned and moaned about (quite rightly), so there are some cut scenes somewhere.

All are in windows media video format - visuals and title sequences by me. 3 days?

It only took me 2 hours to download, which is mostly about it being massive more so than the service being exceptionally slow.

Of course, sites hand out different speeds to different countries at different times of day.

Took a look, not really sure what it is, they call it an audiovisual but it just seems to be a still picture of Mr Brigggs while an audio adventure plays out.

Originally they were only audios. I reformatted them in this way because I had intended, at one time, to post these on Youtube. I added the title sequences just because I felt like it. I didn't keep the audio-only tracks, at least not for the plays or On Tape sections. I didn't see any reason to keep both. Sorry if that puts you off these. They are worth a listen. I suggest doing what I sometimes do - just collapse the window and let the audio play.

I'd suggest trying it again. I checked it myself and it said the download length would be about 2 hrs. I did try to open an account with Mega but it didn't want to cooperate. It kept freezing on the 'generating key' page and I don't have the patience to wait forever for it to do something.

Taking links down is a sendspace thing, Sendspace is "monitored".

We don't know how monitored Uloz.to is, and it may be safe to leave then up for as long as they can persist, without any dire repercussions to your uloz account.

But then, it's completely up to you. :)

Really? I'm getting a dark blue theme, I haven't changed any settings (still set on forum default, I checked) so I'm not sure how it happened.

Edit: it's not changing no matter what skin I select, maybe I'm getting a random glitch? (or maybe this is the default and I'm just stupid? I had a light background before)

I had this too, but was able to fix it.

So to Settings on the top line and select it, then press Enter.

When the settings page loads, go to General Settings under my Account, select it and press enter.

When this loads, look for Forum Skin - near the bottom of the page. Change the skin to New (Light) or whatever you like. You will need to save the changes.

There may be other ways, but that worked for me.

I'm on the third book right now. What timing.

I had heard the name of these books once before, but my quick bit of research only showed fanfic... are there actual books?
And if so... could anyone elaborate upon them (or better yet... provide a DL link?)

Thanks!

ALSO, with the news that ANY shmo can upload to Ulozto, I think I'll be able to provide items for the masses as well.
I hate to only take. I wish to give back.

Here are the four novels for Life on Mars (file called Life on the Red Planet). Yes, they are actual books that were published two years ago. They began life as ebooks only, but were eventually published. The ebooks are epub format. These books are set right after the final episode of the series (so they will contain spoilers if you have not watched the show) and help bridge the gap between Life on the Red Planet and Ashes to Ashes. Please note: there are spoilers for Ashes to Ashes in these books as they were published a year or so after Ashes to Ashes ended.

The number at the beginning of each title is the order they should be read in as each book builds upon the prior.

Absolutely no idea! :) I just had a quick gander through UseNet for them. Until today I didn't even know there were any books.

I so often forget that this thread often includes items NOT affiliated with The MEDIC, and this seems to be one of them
lol

I did watch the first few episodes of this show (US remake) and while entertaining, thought I'd be better served watching its UK originator.
However, I lost track of it and soon forgot all about it.

So, I DO thank you for the link (and hopefully others will be able to partake), but I'm just trying to catch up on all-things-"Medic" for now.

And to get this thread going again, help yourselves to the 50th Birthday trilogy featuring "Celebration for the Pseudo-Beatles", "The Galactic Marathon" and "The Extermination Olympics,"

Aside from watching every MEDIC story from the beginning (am now nearing the end of 3rd Medic's tenure), I've been heavily diving into novels and other reading materials of the MEDIC, and find, that with my work schedule, the anthology books tend to work best for me. Quick reads whist grabbing a bite or on a 10-minute break.

To that end, I wonder if anyone has the LARGE CONCLUSION series (29 books!) of "BRIEF SOJOURNS".

I already have the 3 "CBB" "Brief Sojourns" books and have found them a treat.
To learn that there are 29 others out there is a delight!

While MOBI are what I use, ANY file format is fine (I found a program - @l!bre -that can transform any format into any other format).

Many thanks in advance!

You know ... you may well have a technical case. The 3rd Doc is on the cover, and whilst the details don't say that he's NOT in it there's a reasonable expectation of an appearance. You'ld probably need a particularly sympathetic Trading Standards Officer to make A Case from it, though. (Arguably in breach of The Distance Trading rules and regs, too.)

That said .... it's not unprecedented ... 3x8, 3x11, 4x12, (the Leealah and S.Queedom trilogies?), 8x7 don't, IIRC, have their medic show up in the story.
