Here's Revengers 4.

BTW, was there a bonus disc (behind the scenes) with the recent novel adaptations, or were there extras on the story discs? I haven't heard them yet.

No bonus disk. They were just a standard release this time.

Can anyone tell me at what point in tonesS of eniceV it is that Ms. Pollard is reported to compare the console to "something out of Jules Verne"?
The fact that I don't remember hearing her specifically namedrop JV, along with my inability to find said quote upon revisiting, together have me worried that my file might be (egads!) less than complete.

Perish the thought. Please?

CHARLEY: Couldn't you do something about tidying this place up?
DOCTOR: The Tardis? What's wrong with it?
CHARLEY: For a really futuristic ship, what you ought to have is gleaming white surfaces and bright flashing controls, and, I mean, it's the 1930s now, Doctor. This place is like something out of Jules Verne.
DOCTOR: It might be the 1930s to you, Charley. For me it's nothing of the kind.
CHARLEY: And which decade is it for you? You've been a little evasive about that. You can't shock me, you know. I've heard enough outrageous things by now.
DOCTOR: Which decade? All of them. None of them. I don't really know any more. Ah, we're about to arrive.

Thanks. The script you indicate makes it evident that the version I have really has been abridged. Dialog has been trimmed throughout: this is not just a case of the opening gambit's simply having been omitted. (I compared with a file obtained Elsewhere to be sure).

You wouldn't really know you had an abridged version just to look at the two versions' running times (109 vs 111 minutes - about two hours either way). One clue might be that the less-than-complete version has a voice-over title/author tag at the beginning as well as voice-over credits at the end; the more complete version has neither. I'm guessing this answers a previous discussion, viz:

Does anyone know if the eighth medic series has clean openings each episode if you get it from LC? Some of the ones I have are clean and some have the credits read out.

Yeah, the first (and second?) series have credits when you get them from LC. There was a good (at the time) reason but I'm damned if I can remember it.

Credits read out are probably recordings of the BBC broadcasts, I shouldn't be surprised, especially the 1 hour ones. I don't recall the LC ones having them.

Great. Do I have to go through the whole divergent universe again just to see what other clever snippets of dialog I missed out on in all the other stories I previously thought were complete?
(It's like re-buying Star Wars again to enjoy whatever extra three minutes Lucas has added this time).

And can I really trust the presence of voice-over end credits as a sure flag of a story's having been abridged?

jlatx
01-24-2016, 08:37 PM
I believe the voice over ones were recorded off broadcast, while the others are the official original releases. None of the LC stuff should have voice over credits, except maybe Mucy Liller stories - as those were released intended for radio broadcast? Hope this helps clear things up a bit. I imagine the edits were done for schedule time constraints.

Thanks so much for your sharing TJ.
But, unfortunately there is a problem with all 4 files.
That problem is gaps.
Gaps of any sound whatsoever of 20 to 25 seconds in length repeated maybe 5 to 6 times in each file.
Not sure if any of the production is missing, but it does interfere with one's concentration on the storyline.
Would sure appreciate it and I'm sure would all other DLers, if it would be possible for you or someone else to eliminate these defects.
Thanks in advance to you and whoever who would be so good to rectify these interruptions.

Not entirely, because most of the dedicated 8D + 4D stuff were made the right length so there no cuts for transmission, unless a fraction of a line was deemed no longer suitable to be broadcast. (See 4D105 for an example)

Hello Medicos,

I have a humble request (or three)...

Might anyone have the audiobooks of the 8th Medic as read by his portrayer (P.McG)?
I'm hoping to get:
-N0vel of the f!lm
-E@rth and B3Y0nD
-Eight Medics (even if he didn't read it)

- and any others?

I was going to READ them, but I'm without my external HD (long story, it's configured to mac and my mac died, and all I have is an antique pc laptop) so I'm not able to access ANY of my stored files.

Actually, I was also going to go back to the start of the Victorian Gents vol1 and start from their beginnings, but those (if I have them) are on that same drive and inaccessible for the nonce.

So, ANY help on either of those fronts:
-8th Medic
and/or
J&L series 1 to ?

But I'm not greedy.
Whatever you have at hand.

Many thanks!

Since you undoubtedly paid for the LC audios Jez, if I were you, I'd complain about the low almost inaudible volume on the phone calls directly to LC by e-mail or letter or whatever. If you and enough other LC customers did, maybe they'd wise up.

It certainly is your right and the right of every other LC consumer.

Please ask them why the theme is so loud!! Every 25 minutes I'm blasted.

This is so true. It's unnecessary and the inconsistent mixing just makes them seem amateurish- which they are decidedly not.

The worst part is with Toby's interviews. I usually listen to them while playing a game that doesn't need volume. I have to keep my pretty powerful computer speakers at FULL volume to even hear them (and even then, I often miss parts.) And then suddenly I'll get some loud sound on my computer that gives me a jolt! Or I'll get to the end and the trailer will wake the neighbors! I realize that his recording equipment isn't great. But is it really that hard to turn up the gain when making the version for downloading?

Please ask them why the theme is so loud!! Every 25 minutes I'm blasted.I had that same problem with the 8 stories featuring Miss Shelley and the recent Battle Medic audios. The theme seems to be three times as loud as the rest of the audio, even with my volume set at only 50% it damn near blew out my ears.

Sometimes it's device specific to what you are listening on, they mostly sound perfect volume on my iPhone. Unfortunately when the kind people who share on here lower the bitrate from 256 (how they come) to 128 the volumes become all over the place. There's a price to pay for taking up less space.

I'm with you on never really noticing any major volume difference on any device I've used, but will say that due to some of the theme mixes it can /seem/ like there's a boost and, yeah, the one for the Shelly stories is a good example of that. The initial 'scream' into the theme could ease in just a little better. I'd put that down to the scoring rather than the volume.

But I can't say I've heard any equalisation differences when stuff has been down-sampled from 256 to 128, though.

Whilst I do keep the main DW stories as 256, I honestly can't tell the difference between that and 128 most of the time, especially when wearing regular ear-bud headphones if I'm outside and wanting to keep sufficient hearing to ensure I'm not run over by a car when crossing the road. Even in-doors on regular speakers I'd struggle to spot the difference.

Getting down to 96 with 28k sample rates is where I start to notice, When it starts to sound like a slightly off-tuned Medium Wave radio.

64 with 11k sample ... Long Wave on a rainy day ...

It makes me feel quite old, and sad, of course. When people who have been around, all throughout your life - it's like they'll always be there. I've been watching a few series of It Ain't Half Hot Mum and was prompted to look up who was still around (I did the same thing with Dad's Army, only to find that those left of the cast diminished quickly, same thing with Are You Being Served! I think there's only Ian Lavender from Dad's Army left, and Mike Berry from Are You Being Served.) - it struck me that when we watch these DVDs, of shows from our past, that it seems to keep the actors and actresses perpetually young, they never seem to die.

At least with these people we have them preserved (for want of a better word) on DVD, CD, Blu-rays etc. Where they are kept forever young.

We will probably be hit again in the Who community with sad news again. I seems we were spared a few years and then in quick fashion we lost Letts; Sladen; Courtney; Tamm; O'Mara and John as well as Stables [among many others] Given the age of some of the leads and some of the companions it is a matter of time before the classic actors are gone

It's the only way to think of it really - "forever young." I like the idea that these TV signals are going on forever outward, into space. It's a kind of immortality, a signature that we were here.

AFAIR there was a thing on BBC's Horizon donkeys years ago about the theory of doing that. Putting the aside the whole requirement for speeds/acceleration to actually get sufficiently ahead of the radio-wave in the first place there's then whole of issue of directionality where the signal that escapes the ionosphere would have been sprayed more-or-less in a spiral along the orbital plane of the planet. There shear maths to work out exactly where you'ld need to place our 'retro-recorder' is mind boggling dependent on time of transmission, power of transmission, axis of transmission, weather at time of transmission and planetary/orbital alignment.

If you like... err... "Dalek Bumps" on your heroes, you might want to try these fan-made audios (http://tinyurl.com/femaledoctor) featuring a regenerated female medic whose companion shares her surname with a famous ring-modulated baldy...

Mmm, interesting. I might just have a listen.

Odd request: Does anyone have the 1970s Medic Sound Effects album? I have the 50th, 30th Anniversary cds and the Radiophonic releases but what I'm looking for I think is on there and I seem to have totally lost my old copy. Any help?

I've listened to some of the older stuff they did. It's quite a mixed bag. When they did their own stuff it could be quite interesting but more often than not they just lifted either partly (or in some cases completely) plotlines from various Medic and Star Trek stories. They also mixed universes quite alot in the early stuff. The strangest thing I think they ever did was to create a mute companion for audio stories. I don't think they quite thought that one through as the idea didn't work very well.

I've been rewatching them recently when I have days off from work. I just love the ambition of what they were able to achieve back then. Plus, all the puppets hold up amazingly for me. Then again, I could be biased as I've been a lifelong Henson fan, even of his lesser-known work. Like "The Storyteller", which features a pre-War Medic John Hurt serving as narrator during the first season and a pre-Dumbledore Michael Gambon for the second. :)

Yeah, those were the first ones I saw too when I was a kid. They taught me a rather harsh (but necessary) lesson that not all stories have happy endings. You really should watch the John Hurt ones, though. My personal favorites of those are "The Luck Child", "Hans, My Hedgehog", and "A Story Short".

Over the weekend, I was watching some of the bonus features on Disc 2 of the 8th Medic's DVD. I particular, I was watching the one on "The Wilderness Years", and I got to thinking. You know, the Medic seemed more real (for me, at least) prior to its return to the "idiot box" in 2005. I remember going to cons, and seeing some cool stuff, esp. fanzines. There was a real originality to some of it. I really thought it would be cool to have everyone know about timeships, etc., without having to explain it every time I brought it up; boy, was I wrong! After watching that feature, as well as the one about the Medic's comics in DW|\/|, I kinda wish the show hadn't come back on. The show feels very Americanized now, making the show feel less like the one I grew up with. Sure, the special effects are flashy, but characters feel less defined, the stories more watered down. It makes me glad that that Classic Medic is on DVD, but it seems a lot of the good ones (like Umbrella Medic's "Spirit Brightness") are going out-of-print stateside with no indication that the "Auntie Beeb" will be fixing that. Thanks for letting me get that out of my head, as it's been stewing all weekend and I just needed to get it out.

Sounds like channel 9.......listings in the tv guides are just a suggestion. The show may be broadcast at some stage, but not necessarily on the day/time listed or in the correct story order, and if there's insufficient ratings we'll axe it or bring it back in a few months in a middle-of-the-night time slot with no advertising.
We might even show 2 or more episodes back to back, but only list 1, or start 25 mins late, so that it really stuffs you up when you record it!

I'm on a Disability Pension, my wife's job is only Part Time and I live in the most expensive State in Australia. Our rent is due to go up by $50 a week. So I don't have all that much money. I usually find my bargains from going from shop to shop. I have to save up for a disposable debit Visa/Mastercard if I want to buy anything online. The only thing with Amazon is that sometimes they don't ship overseas too (we don't have Amazon in Australia - I have to shop through the US or UK ones). I'll just have to keep a lookout when I finally do have some money (we have a huge loan to pay off too, which we added on to have our holiday - my first in over 20 years). Oh to come into some money!

One and Two share the same console room, as do Nine and Ten. Eight got his swank digs but didn't keep his theme due to rights issues.

It's so absurdly easy to do a kickass Lego Medic game now. Nearly all the ingredients are rendered and ready, and Dimensions proved the show could be translated well to the Lego format. Just whip up a few more companion and villain figures, put some of the show's best writers in front of the word processor, turn the combined voice talents of LC and Cardiff loose - and it's off to the races. Throw in assorted novel/comic/audio only characters as DLC along with assorted 'Greatest Hits' level packs based on episodes.

"Shut Up and Take My Money" wouldn't even begin to describe the hype.

Yeah, I saw that series was out but I wanted to hear what people thought about it too.

William Hope Hodgson's Occult Detective as played by a potato fella.

Part One (http://uploaded.net/file/5o4q6mon)

Part Two (http://uploaded.net/file/749pg0z8)

Two parts and the sharing site from Hell but MegaNZ and Sendspace present far too many hopes for someone wanting to upload quickly. So, for anyone who manages to get them please feel more than free to reshare via a more palatable platform.

Up until Sunday

Just a little more desription of what these links are could make it a bit easier to understand if I want to download them!

sound tracks.

Most of them are smaller, for individual seasons, MP3 I'm assuming, and then there's a 4 gb flac file of all the seasons.

Jdownloader sees all.

No, I haven't had a chance yet - but they were a must buy for me as I'm a huge fan of the source material.

it's fine on jdownloader.

14 minutes till I finish the second one.

Although they make you wait 3 hours between each unsuccessful download or successful download before you can start your next download.

So the first cock might have been bad luck, but then if you didn't wait 3 hours till you tried again, Uploaded is going to treat you like a punk.

On a related note, does anyone have the anthology ebook, "The Stories of the Viking Girl" that was released a couple of months ago?

I did, each download took two hours via IE and I had to wait an hour between each DL. It is doable, just need to be patient. Just started listening to them - thank you DamienK

well can someone upload to another site because i have spent 12 hours on this and really start to lose patience it fails every time. i am sure it is doable but when you have to wait an hour between failed downloads -- the proof is in the pudding and i am not getting it.

Wow! Thanks for that, good sir! I thought it too early to ask, so I was content to wait. And there you go surprising us all! I doff my hat to you! *doff*

A request, if I could.. I am looking for the Journal of Old Mill Stream, the one that LC put out. But, here's the catch.. I have downloaded from two sites, and both were in M4A, but when I go to play them on my SANSA Zip Clip, I am getting a root error. Does anyone have them in mp3 format? I am not sure if there was something inherently wrong with the way it was copied, but I couldn't get it to play. Any help would be super greatly appreciated.
