First off, allow me to extend my wishes of a speedy recovery to EM as well. Sounds like you're going through hell and back just to keep yourself healthy. Best of luck, man.

Secondly, this may be a bit random of me to ask, but is anyone going to the con LI Who in November? It's a Doctor Who con in Long Island, NY. I'm asking, because I'm going with a friend of mine. I'm so looking forward to meeting the people who are gonna be there. :)

I was thinking of going (I used to live on LI, but now live in PA).
I work on LI still, although I just got the bad news that my car's transmission is dead and I don't have the cash or credit to repair or replace it.
And used cars are still thousands...
ugh.

I'm just trying to figure out a way to keep my job.
I used to take a bus from PA to NYC and then LIRR to my job, but that's expensive too.

IF I'm still around LI in Nov, I'd love to go.
Right now, working on a 1-day Rush job, so that allowed me to work from home today.

We'll see what happens.

Any time there's a 'reader' or some sort google:
readername extractor/decrypter/DRM remover etc
Have a poke round in the files :D especially if it's an iOS/android they might have the pdf somewhere in the app folder
When you first 'download'/open the application it has to get the file from somewhere so if you hook it up to a debugger like Fiddler4 you might be able to to catch the pdf as it comes down stream as long as it doesn't have DRM on it.

Usually not too much of a problem unless you intend to share the file - for personal use it's fine. I think converting the file into an image removes it anyway and the groups doing the official release would know the ins and out of removing it.

I prefer one-track-per story, so it does make organising my itunes/phone much easier. Artist as 'DW Audio', Album as 'Range' (eg: 'Sixth Doc', 'Benny') and then order the story tracks into either a chronology for the Docs or release order.

I think some folk were looking for the crowdfunded niboR fo doowrehS audio play that was released this summer. Here's a link (be quick, I'm not leaving this up for long):

https://www.sendspace.com/file/1zvtlv

N.B. Please only download this if you genuinely can't afford it - I know many of us are strapped for cash but 10 quid isn't too much for 2 hours of niche entertainment given that they got the entire surviving cast back, plus it was produced by a fledgling company with all the profits going to charity. They take Paypal and all the other usual cards so if you're a fan of the old show please consider throwing them (and thus the British Red Cross & the Sherwood Forest Trust) some coin for their efforts at www.spitefulpuppet.com/shopp.php. You never know, it might convince them to make more.

How do people organise thgeir collections of file, not just audio but in general, what about stuff like naming conventions etc.

I am trying to go through mine and sort it all out but everything is such a mess, it would be great to have an insight inot how others do it.

About the organisation, all audios I have are mp3. I got the monthly range in individual episodes, but for the hour-long stories (Fourth Med, Burn-Trees), I got one big mp3 per story. And I don't keep the "behind scenes", I'm only interested int the stories, and it takes an awful lot of space on my hard drive.
As for the naming, I adopted the previous naming convention from the "Medic What Wikia", like "B*F*A-D*W" for the main range, "C*C" for the Comp*anions Chron*icles, etc.

But it's really difficult to put all LC audios in a particular shelf, like the Specially Released Boxsets. "You-knit: Dom*inion" for example: does it have to be in the same directory as the old "You-knit" series? Or does it go with the brand new "You-knit"? Or is it something else entirely?

Anyway, for naming and filing, my principal reference is the TAR*DIS Wikia.

Wow, that kinda sound like a commercial...

kimekaro
08-16-2016, 02:14 PM
I organize everything specifically into Title>Series>then by release order (ex. CC0803 - The Second Floor). I don't usually change filenames unless they are totally random. For a while, I put all the spin-offs of the Medic into a Spin-Off folder, but then 70% of their yearly releases became spinoffs, so I just started giving them their own place to call home.

This makes it a bit of a burden when I want to listen to an entire character arc in the CC's or Main range, but fortunately, my memory for what story belong with what character or plot is pretty good.

I'm a chronology freak. I go to a couple different sites that were recommended to me here and I try to put them in listening order. (that includes TV as well as audio)
Right now, I have been listening to them as I get them but "if" I have a chance, I will go to a particular medic and listening to everything in order....unfortunately, with all the new releases coming out, it's too hard to do.
Like kimekaro, I am trying to put all the spinoff's where they should go in the main medic folders.

^ this for me too...I keep my audios organized by LC category, and not by continuity...and the top-level LC folder exists side by side with folders for Bullseye readings, biographies, etc.

I posted that one with the bio of the Victorian-era screamer a few weeks back, but have deleted them. Feel free to PM me if no one reposts.

How do people organise thgeir collections of file, not just audio but in general, what about stuff like naming conventions etc.

I am trying to go through mine and sort it all out but everything is such a mess, it would be great to have an insight inot how others do it.

I remember summer.
We had one in 1976

The funny thing is that I have a hobby that usually keep me outdoors on my vacations, traveling around a lot. I've been to the UK twice so far in the summer for 10 days on my first visit and 4 on the second, and barely got any rain for any of it (although I did get hailed on briefly!) You guys in the UK should hire me out to visit more often so you'll have great weather, since I tend to get very lucky. On one trip to Asia, I just missed TWO different typhoons by a matter of two days each, and they somehow sucked most of the moisture out of the air in both areas, turning what were supposed to be fairly rainy days into decent weather.

Yes, I realize I've now jinxed myself permanently.

just curious Which audios are you referring to exactly? The ones with Sly and Sophie or Colin and Nicola? I personally liked the early Sly and Sophie audios but once BBV was forced to change the names then they just started getting weird. Never could get into the Colin and Nicola ones. Didn't care much for the videos either. Not too sure about any of the other Medic spinoffs BBV did. Outside of the two AV related audios and a couple of Timelady and Tin Dog audios haven't heard anything else.

First off, don't let a little thing like "canon" trouble you in Doctor Who. Secondly, I was in the same boat as you regarding the Not-Tied-Down stories, but to me they operate on a similar standard to when an established comic book series doing a "What if?"-type story. Or if you want to think in terms of the show Farscape, they're "unrealized realities". So it allows them to try some different things with the established elements of the Whoniverse without having to be constrained by the nitty-gritty of it all. I do wonder how the TARDIS Wiki's gonna sort out these new Benny audios, though.

easy!!!! if we can believe in established lore that the 3rd medic traveled to an alternate verse in the 'Ferno then why not Benny traveling to one where there is an alternate Medic......

we have already seen Brigade Leader... and an alternate version of the Brig in 2 unbounds......and add to that alternate versions of Sarah; and Donna as part of alternate realities as a result of the Trixter brigade... why not here as well..?

All well and good, but here's the rub: The TARDIS Wiki designates the Not-Tied-Down audios with a NON-DWU label. Namely, it's not considered part of the "main Doctor Who universe" as the Wiki considers it. So this new box set with Benny and this Medic kinda muddies the waters a bit...

Some of the Un-tied Docs are 'canon'ised in 'The 100 Days Of Doc' where 6 and Eve have to go to alt-universes ,and one of 8th's stories (I forget which) has him say "I saw a version of myself where I ripped out my own heart" so even slipping some of the books into the LC universe.

QFT

Yes, like yourself and others above, I don't think of Not-Tied Universe as non-Canon. They're alt-U.
Until someone from the MAIN U crosses over, they aren't "quite" canon (main canon), but once they interact (Medic 3 in Unfurno, Medic 6 in "100 Days", and now Bennee Wintercrag), then they can be folded into the main canon (as a side-track).

Some of my favorite comic stories are WHAT IF's.
And some times, those What If alt-U's are then folded into the main range.

It's all good!

Does this wiki have some power to enforce canon? Is it run by BBC employees who consult with the Doctor Who producers? No? Then there is no rub.

Again Doctor Who has no "canon". There is no limit to the stories that can be told or the timelines that can be rewritten .

Exactly. The only time anyone with any BBC connection specifically used the word canon in relation to any Doctor Who stuff, as I recall, it was some advertising person claiming the Adventure Games from the BBC website were canon.

It's all good!A good example of a WHAT IF story that was later adopted as part of the main Marvel U is the story that explained that three other men after Steve Rogers wore the Captain America suit. Marvel's gotten a lot of mileage out of that little gem. Spider-Girl's another good example.

Well, yes. But we're talking in the most relaxed sense here; an over-all narrative that LC have managed to keep fairly consistent and making some of the more obtuse bits like the Alt-Docs fit into their story without having to 'get silly' about it.

Something fun about the new Benny... If you go to the LC page and look at the cast list, The Master is played by "Sam Kisgart" with his picture on the cover. Nice little nod to the classic series credits.

They did the same thing when Kisgart showed up as the Master in the second "Not-Tied-Down" audio where Warner's Alt-Three also made his debut. But I definitely agree that it was a lovely nod.

Been using JD'2 on a mac ever since you started evangelizing about it. Never had to reboot after I've bothered to install the updates every few months.

The reboot is only for after the installation.

There was once I had no idea why every thing was jumbled and not working right.

I don't like rebooting my computer.

bad things happen when I do that.

Never had to reboot after clean installing JD2. AFAIR the only time I've had to reboot after an application install on mac was Audio Highjack Pro on Lion and, IIRC, M-Lion to El-Cp didn't need the reboot.

With the exception of Jerek Dacobi, DW could be argued to have the best resume of any actor who's played the role: people might think of him first in Time Bandits or the Star Trek films, but this is someone who was playing leads for the Royal Shakespeare in his early 20s (Henry VI, Richard II, Hamlet in two consecutive seasons) and who's more recently done Falstaff in the two Henry IV plays and King Lear. Halfway through his 70s now, he's had one hell of a career.

It was not just our forum that disappeared: all the Shrine forums were down, which reassured me but also worried me. When I tried to log on yesterday to either this page or the main forum page and got the kill screen that said THIS ACCOUNT HAS BEEN SUSPENDED I thought for sure that it meant that the Shrine had been shut down for good. Glad to see I was wrong because I have a request that I hope someone will fill. I have the four stories from the latest Benny outing but need the extras. I tried that Mega link several times to get what I need and kept freezing at 98%. So if any kind soul would be good enough to help me out I'd greatly appreciate it.

A couple of odd ebook requests from earlier this year. Does anyone have the anthology of mostly reprints from the Files series and the annuals (plus three new stories): H3r0e$ and M0nst3r$? Also, N1ght of the Kr@k3n, one of those shoose the not-past books? Did I miss them here?

Also, for those into the books, be aware that there is a new range of books featuring the 11th Medic. But they are REPRINTS of the 2-in-1 kids' series that came out a few years back. Strangely enough, these reprints have only one of the two novellas that were in the original books, but for more money! Such a bargain!

The only book with new stories on the horizon is a new hardcover short story collection in October featuring 12 called The US advs.
