and the thing thing is The Rose and Crown pub is the authentic english pub in Epcot center....

but that is also where Clara worked in " The Snowmen" --- which was a Christmas episode....

Christmas is usually when "Santa" visits....

and Disney is based in California in "Santa" Clara.....

and the most famous character of Disney that is Clara is a cow......

and Clara in one of the latest episodes called the Tardis a fat old cow......

Plus all the chatting has led to the sharing of a lot of audios lately - even if most of them have been OT.

I know I can be one of the worst for OT stuff but after finding some other peoples geat OT posts such as the S*P*A*C*E* * 1*8*8*9 audios, which I'm loving at the moment. Many of these posts are triggered by a casual comment made in conversation. So I say up the conversation and try something new.

I can see why you might feel that - but I was suggesting it more as a "repository" - a thread that we all know about that is a handy place to put the links only, so that people are able to keep a clear eye on what has come out / been posted. I have been a member of this board for a couple of years and over the last 6 months or so this thread has become mostly unrelated to its title (I'm not slagging anyone off for this). I, myself, don't get involved in the discussions as I feel there is really nothing much that I want to say about the new series of DW... but as a consequence of everyone getting along so well, it has become a chore to wade through so many pages and posts looking for RWQ - which lately has often been used not to disguise links but to disguise comments - particularly when we don't know specific dates that things have been released / posted. I was suggesting a solution / compromise.

Comments in recent RWQ's I seem to have missed those.

Nice find on YT - Crime Traveller

Crime Traveller is a 1997 science fiction detective television series produced by Carnival Films for the BBC based on the premise of using time travel for the purpose of solving crimes.

Jeff Slade is a detective with the CID department of the local police force led by Kate Grisham, although unusually for such a position he is an armed officer; carrying a handgun as routine. Slade is a good detective who gets results although his approach is somewhat maverick and his methods do leave a lot to be desired and have more than once landed him in trouble. Amongst Slade's colleagues at the department is science officer Holly Turner who has a secret that Slade manages to uncover. Holly owns a working Time Machine that was built by her late father. The machine is able to take Slade and Holly back far enough in time to witness a crime as it happens and discover who committed it. As a result Slade's track record with crime solving goes through the roof with case after case being solved in record time.

Hi Tomoph.
I've just lost all of my previously downloaded copies of the magazines (they were on a hard drive I loaned to a friend, whose daughter then knocked the drive so that it now seems inoperable - the annoying thing was, after discussions here over the last few days about lost hard drives, I'd decided to back that drive up as soon as I got it from my friend).
You wouldn't by any chance be able to provide links to the other files, would you? If it's too much of a hassle (which I could understand), don't worry about it, but if it were possible it would be much appreciated.

To be fair, it has been a long time, so maybe it's not QUITE as bad as I remember. Definitely better than bloody Bugs, at least...

And yes, katrinaau, Star Cops is ace, despite the appallingly cheesy theme song, and Tegan-esque 'brash Aussie woman (TM)' character, the bizarrely named Pal Kenzy. It has David Calder and Trevor Cooper in the cast, and comes from the pen of the mighty Chris Boucher, all of which are Good Things. It's very much of it's time, but I still think it's great. (Shame Boucher never made good on the novel he was supposedly writing based on the series - I was quite looking forward to that...)

Anyone else remember "The Last Train"? That was a good 'un...

I lost 1Tb of stuff last year when a drive packed it in (some things I haven't been able to get back - non-medic stuff). You can never have enough HDDs if you ask me - I've got two more I'm paying off, to pick up next week and I want to get another after that (to add to the three I already have. I'm on a Disability Pension so I don't have that much money. Remember to back-up guys!

3rd back-up 1TB coming next Tuesday.

I hope that my lost files are still on my Bro's 3TB drive that I used for a backup before I did a fresh install last year. Unfortunately he's working abroad at the moment and just rubbish at knowing what to do.

You could try http://isohunt.com/, there are some very good collection torrents on there, most are good quality, failing that there is TheBox :: Login (http://www.thebox.bz) a very good site for medic dvd's but you must keep a 1 to 1 ratio.

The sarcasm mark is probably already there if you're on a PC, (on a MAC not sure). It's in some of the Arabic stuff on most standard font.

There's just no easy shortcut for it. So you have to either copy and paste OR set up a key that you don't use.. say the ($) sign then using Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator make a new key with the ؟ instead of $ and then switch between keyboard layouts. If anyone's got an easier way I'd like to know!؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟؟
The only thing is you have to remember that the Arabic keyboard type's from right to left not left to right, can be a bit confusing but if I can do it you all can...........If you're on a PC. Again not sure about MAC's.

Have I just gone up my own arse? I'm sure I can smell something.

Don't worry it was just the curry I had for lunch....؟؟؟؟؟؟

This reeks of a guy basically wanting to totally sully Moff's reputation to the point that it brings about the very hiatus he claims he's trying to prevent in an attempt to pull off some kind of twisted self-fulfilling prophecy. Hell, his whole attitude is basically "I don't have proof for this, nor do I need it". It's pretty brazen, given how naive people can be on the internet.

Here's hoping!

The thing I find disgusting is how these people try to portray the man as an evil, rapey, woman-hating wife-beater, in most cases seemingly just because they don't like the sexual 'politics' in his work...

I seriously once read a forum post that stated flat out as fact (without, of course, any back up or evidence) that he had molested Karen Gillan and regularly abuses his wife!! Apart from anything else, does this person actually KNOW who his wife is?? I am 100% sure that Sue Vertue is more than capable of looking after herself and would never put up with anything like that from ANYONE, let alone SM (she is, basically, his boss, too, at Hartswood)!

Truly unbelievable. If you must slag a man's work, fine, but I just find this sort of apparently unfounded invasion into a person's private life sickening... :(

Agreed. I'm just glad when the news broke a couple years ago that RTD's partner was struggling with brain cancer and that they moved back to Manchester to get treatment, no one -as far as I know- came out of the woodwork to say that RTD deserved those problems as recompense for all the stuff in DW or TW that they didn't like. If they had done that, I'd find them much more reprehensible than the people who are currently slagging on SM.

I'm curious if there are any copies of Reevaluation of Dowel Legs with the original music. The official VHS and DVD releases didn't get clearance to use the songs and used generic music instead.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to say thanks for this awesome thread, and to say thanks, I'm going to up a couple of parts of something I'm working on to celebrate the 50th, and also as a space-saving maneuver due to not having much HD space. I've been audio-izing the classic series, and editing the serials down to a more modern pace, 40-70 minute episodes(the amount of episodes per serial depending on the original length of the serial, 4 parters usually becoming 1 episode, 6 parters becoming 2, etc.). It actually tightens up the plots, and in some cases helps keep things a bit mysterious, not to mention easier to go through on a train ride. Plus, it keeps consistency what with having the missing medic episodes fully existing in audio form, and grand ending audio adventures(fun fact, in my planned out season listing, which includes grand ending audio, some of the BBV Chronology Tourists series, the 3rd medic radio plays, and the entire medic series as seen on TV, it comes out to 49 seasons so far). I'm uploading two adventures that I've completed so far(only just finished the star-clown episode, about to visit the old west to cure a toothache), and will edit this post if I can, when they finish uploading. Hopefully you guys enjoy it, despite the relative blasphemy of editing down old serials.

Here is BBV's G*ho*sts REMIXED (I left Ace with the name Alice as from the way she says it first she is obviously using a false name in this story):

Was kind of curious when I saw these so I did a little reading...

Seems BBV never had the rights to do any DW audios, so officially these are simply about 2 time-travelling friends called the Professor and Ace. When the beeb got wind of it, they ordered BBV to rename the main characters from Gh-osts onwards. The beeb gave the rights to BF shortly after and BBV gave up on the series and started making audios/videos based in the Whoniverse but not related to the doc.

Only listened to a couple of these stories so far, but have to say they're pretty good.

Thanks for all your hard work Trabisty and keep it up :)

Kind of easy to say that kind of thing about Moff and Karen when you can say that anonymously. If that had been printed in a newspaper/magazine they'd have been sued to quickly it would have made their head spin. That kind of thing is reprehensible and once it's out there, it's out there.

On a lighter note ... evil, rapey, woman-hating wife-beater - I'm sure these are the 3 Dwarfs nobody ever hears about :)

I have a question, are the large conclusions blake and his dwarf number of allies series worth a listen?

Before I listened to them, I'd kind of given up B6+1 as a load of campy, over-serious, poorly made and badly dated rot (which, let's be honest, to an extent it is!). Now, after listening, my interest has been greatly rekindled, and I've recently bought cheap 2nd hand copies of the DVD sets to watch it again.

In short - yes. Yes, they are. If nothing else, Mr Kea*ting's Villlla is always worth the entry price, and it's kinda wonderful to hear Mr Dar*row's ultra-hammy tones smarming it up again. If you just want to try one, get Wore-Shyp, an excellent full-cast story set between s2-3 that answers a few open questions quite well... :)

:D

I was making it up as it I went along, but I knew from the off it wasn't going to go the way I wanted. They came across a bunch of bandits attacking a boat family taking their goods through a series of locks down to the small town of Gally-On-The-Frey; a small river harbour town that was a transhipment hub.

Did they try and save the family?

No. They let the bandits get on with it and then mugged THEM on the way back to their lair.

Over the course of six hours they took over the criminal under world, used pubs and "entertainment" (ah-hem) establishments to launder fake currency and goods, blackmailed the judges, fire-balled the local courts, charged horrendous taxes on shipments passing through etc etc.

It was only when I told them that trade was (understandably!) dying off and that a certain Vimes and Carrot-a-like characters were on their way from The Big City to investigate why the flow of goods from the town had dried up they decided to sneak off in a boat at midnight ... as the party magic caster magi-nuked the entire town!

Which was nice.

Tonight they want to see what a life of piracy is like ...

Sounds like you got a real bunch of 'heroes' there :D

Sounds better than our last outing. Picked a fight in a flour mill, I smartly threw a fireball and the entire place exploded. Entire party wiped out, except for me - somehow I managed to duck and cover. No eyebrows, but I limped out of the wreckage and snuck out of town. Coleman teased: "All I can say is that Clara hasn't just met the Doctor three times before."

The upcoming finale episode will also introduce a new menace to the BBC sci-fi series, known as

This name thing is becoming tedious as well
good grief! there wasn't that much about it, more just a reminder that this is an issue at the moment. there was more on the carla mystery!

how much power is there in a fecking name? ask the carrionites

Absolutely fantastically talented writer, but not a great show runner.
finally something i can agree with you on

look
on the story arcs we had the library book and carlas comment that she had read it; oh and the "secrets keep us safe" comment about the name thing, but we had the medic confronting carla, and finally accepting that she knows nothing about herselves. (interesting that next week he takes her to meet the lizard, the maid and the potato; what will they make of her?)
while there were references to these they weren't integral to either this story or the arc (as memory of them was wiped)

the story itself: yeah the android/brother thing felt either tacked on or missing a whole heap of stuff, but was at least coherent; the monsters are us thing was meh (yeah twigged that early, hand in front the face gave that away) but they were nicely scary.

this was an episode where the star was Blue herself, the chance to wander around, to reminisce with old voices in the air. perhaps the very casual viewer would be bewildered, but not much.

Lets take a moment here and think about it. The Doctor's name. IF that was ever revealed (it wont be) or said out loud (it wont be), frankly there is no name he will have that will make any of us go WOW! That is amazing. Who gives a flying feck what his name is and why would anybody care?!!?
...
PS I know I am coming across very negative here, but - in a backhanded compliment to the show - perhaps its because I expect such a high standard from this excellent and much loved series of ours that when it fails to hit despite the talent on board it does seem like a missed opportunity.
I get that your comments are because you care....if you didn't, then you wouldn't feel the pain you do

on the name. I agree that it wont be told to us, and that anything that could be used would be a disappointment, for me the point is WHY?
why is his name a secret? what is he hiding? what made him keep this hidden?

About the Doctors name when Clara read it in the book of the time war she said something like "so thats who you are" or something like that, so she defiantly knew who he was? so how can she know so off handedly who he is by name, as she is only human is she not?

Next weeks episode will be the 100th episode since the show was relaunched in 2005. Given the run time difference between 80's episodes (virtually all 24-25 minutes except some 6th era 44-45 minute shows) and revival episodes (44 minutes approx. and specials of varying lengths) we must be getting close to the point where the revival era run time matches that of 80's 'Who' (3rd episode Nimon - last episode of Survival). That said, is there anyone on this forum who regularly takes issue with the quality of the show (2005- present) that is prepared to make a case that 80'-89' was better. I doubt it. I've seen them all and they are no match for Moffat and Davies era.

It's all subjective. Given time, and a better medium than pure text, I could argue both ways for both eras.

I think it is after the last Ace story (currently the Prisoner's Dilemma) and the Doctor doesn't die at the end, he just appears to and in my chronology he turns up in the celestial toyroom-like place in Punchline. I'm always interested and happy to change the order below if anyone has any evidence that they CAN'T be in that order (not that they don't like the order!)

Chronology (mine - everyone's canon is their own after all, and I only put in audio and video stories not books or comics):
The Dark Flame
The Prisoner's Dilemma
(More stories where Ace goes to Gallifrey)
Death Comes to Time
Punchline
The Sirens of Time
Last of The Titans
Excelis Decays
Project-Lazarus
Master
Valhalla
Death Collectors
Spider's Shadow
Kingdom of Silver
Keepsake
A Thousand Tiny Wings
Klien's Story
Survival of the Fittest
The Architects of History
UNIT Dominion (where Ace is on Gallifrey)
The Shadow Heart
The TV movie

I like 'Classic' era episodes myself but for all it's ups and downs the new episodes are better to my mind. I never minded the creaky special effects in the older shows so i am making a comparison regarding acting, story and direction.

And ... back from the pub.

What I'm getting curious about is ... how is all this Doctor's Name hoohah going to tie in with the CC that BF are releasing in November about how it all started? Don't forget that all BFs stories have to go through Cardiff to ensure they don't directly contradict, or clash with, anything the show is about to do ...

Oh ... and highlight of tonight's ep ...

can you make it brighter for, uhm, research purposes?

All 80's 'Who' or all of the revival era. Which would you pick if you had to choose.

80's by a country mile. I won't bother justifying it, since it's a matter of opinion.

Coleman previously appeared on Doctor Who as spacefaring Oswin and Victorian governess Clara, with the Doctor attempting to unravel the mystery of her multiple identities in recent episodes, Hinting at what to expect from the finale.

Coleman teased: "All I can say is that Clara hasn't just met the Doctor three times before."

The upcoming finale episode will also introduce a new menace to the BBC sci-fi series, known as

The Whispermen

Re: What Coleman said...

She's met him FIVE times so far - Oswin, Victorian Clara, Young Clara (Bells Prequel), YoungER Clara (Rings), and present-day Clara

And as for the new foe, you can see them in the original s7b trailer...

I'm probably way off base with this, but I've got a weirdly creeping suspicion that "Name o'the Medic" will climax with something very similar to...

The phrase "I'm NOT the Doctor" - cliffhanger: To Be Continued November 23, 2013...

As I said, probably so far from right I'm left again...

Off now 'till I've watched the new ep, then I'll read all the discussion - but many thanks for the screenshot, Nobber!! ;P

Neon, regards the name. To me, its just a redundant storyline. This is what Moffat seems to do - set himself an impossible task and then struggle to give a satisfying resolution.

Lets take a moment here and think about it. The Doctor's name. IF that was ever revealed (it wont be) or said out loud (it wont be), frankly there is no name he will have that will make any of us go WOW! That is amazing. Who gives a flying feck what his name is and why would anybody care?!!?

As for this weeks story, I am a Who fan. At best, I can just about work out what is supposed to have happened today, but I still struggle with how it happened, why it happened and why. For the casual Who fan this was a mess. I am not suggesting the show dumbs down to accomodate viewers, but if there are no casual viewers, there are no ratings and then no show - the series has to be approachable to an armchair viewer.

Incidentally, some views in this article I happen to agree with : Doctor Who Gives a Shit | Blogtown, PDX (http://blogtown.portlandmercury.com/BlogtownPDX/archives/2013/04/25/doctor-who-gives-a-shit)

I certainly have been watching Who simply because I am a fan and not because of enjoyment (Cold War aside which was amazingly good)

PS I know I am coming across very negative here, but - in a backhanded compliment to the show - perhaps its because I expect such a high standard from this excellent and much loved series of ours that when it fails to hit despite the talent on board it does seem like a missed opportunity.

I do agree with this. I know a hell of a lot of people at work, friends, family who have all got bored lately and turned off. No I know that it is good when a show can cater to fans but not at the expense of the casual viewers too, they keep it on air. Although most people I knew we're actual fans as well and even they turned off.

I am probably the more hardcore out of them, collecting LC, watching classic and the odd convention etc. but rings and last night just bored me to tears. So he made a big friendly button and popped through. How did that work? What did the button do? Well, I know what it did, but it did feel very forced. Just wasn't a fan.

And I hate it when I don't enjoy Who, feel robbed.

Also, could they have chosen actors like those 3 for a bet? Casting director wants sacking.

Seriously??? you insult "42"??? OK, it's not the best, but its hardly fair to use it as an example of a stinker from the RTD era when "Fear Her" is sitting right there

Fear Her slipped to my second most hated after rings was shown. It is still 2nd, so blocking JTTCOTT from second place.

Like I said at the time, my bottom two episodes both have annoying brats who can't sing but do. I will lower expectations next time I see one approaching.

God, "Fear Her" is just an absolute stinker. Everytime I do a season watch I skip that one, just awful. As for last nights episode, I actually enjoyed it. Suitably daft plot, way too much crammed into 45 mins which is what I always think about the SM shows. But this is still the worst season since the revival started. I don't mind the season theme concept but I'd actually prefer it to be more obvious than some oblique references. Other shows pull it off so why DW has to try and cater to the casual viewer escapes me - this season should be shouting "who is ozzie and why has she died (twice) and come back?" as the link that gets people hooked into watching each week.

Loved the latest ep :) I know my favourites don't tend to gel with a lot of other people, but this was an enjoyable jaunt.

suspect we'll see more of the droid guy - there must be a reason why that was put in there..it didn't fit in with the rest of the ep so may have been a compulsory addition to push the tale along to the season finale

Let's not forget Gridlock. It's the impossibly far off future and people spend decades trying to drive to a place they could have walked in one tenth the time. Oh yeah, we brought back some villains from 2nd medic but they don't do anything interesting. For good measure we'll have a cat person married to a human who has had a litter of kittens/children but is so old fashioned he teasingly won't accept a homosexual couple. Doesn't compare to the pirate episode but geez.

I really liked tonights episode although it begs a few viewings. I was hoping that I had missed the explanation for the ending but I guess I didn't.

He literally pushed a giant reset button.

Would it have killed them to have Clara flit through the book for a few more seconds. She found out who he was on her second or so page. As pointed out, she recognizes whatever she saw. Not confused or afraid but smiling. She considered it natural.

Also, wouldn't it be weird if the beeb completely ripped off the basic explanation given in Peri and the Pis**con Par**adox. Namely, Clara could have had her timeline split and scattered through time. Memories erased/altered. That would simultaneously leave her special (as in the why this happened) while still leaving Clara herself ordinary.

On an unrelated note: Does anyone know what happened to the planned Resurrection of the Kaleds novelization? They were going to release it last May apparently and it never happened? I clearly remember it because it was never official novelized and it seemed odd that they would do an audio without a print version.

I liked it.

But then, I liked Fear Her. Gridlock, less. my least favourite of RTD's lot was Love & Monsters, but that's probably just because I demand ADATT (all Doctor, all the time) :D
...which doesn't explain why I like Turn Left so much. However, said explanation is provided by the excellent everything in that story.

So... my judgment may be suspect. But I still liked it, and may like it more on further watching. Yes, some things were touched on where they should have been hammered in with the back end of a bus. Yes, there was a disgusting amount of deus ex machina. Yes, the brothers were a wholly unnecessary distraction from the main feature.
Oh well, still fun.

except for that sequence right at the very start with the chasing 'round and 'round the console. Blarg motion sickness.

(oh yeah, I don't like Midnight or The Waters Of Mars either, but that's because they're horrible, not because they're bad. Consequently I refuse to omit them from my watchings.)

EDIT
RE: "Fear Her" - That's a story that's completely ruined by the resolution and, in particular, DT and the Torch ... The actual main story of a frightened young girl that can just draw you away is pretty good.ah. that's a point. okay, maybe I don't like Fear Her. Can't remember when I last watched it, come to that. And the singing was annoying, if only because they kept repeating the first verse... Methinks a rewatch is in order!

I thought the basic premise of "Fear Her" was a good, solid scary idea (and if you think about it a bit, not million miles away from the original Weeping Angels in "Blink"). Always reminds me a little of Sapphire and Steel for some reason.

He didn't, you must have missed it.

There was an explanation for the button at the beginning of the episode. Salvage people used the magna grab button to rope the TARDIS in. Same button randomly appears thrown towards Clara and the Doctor. Opening credits. Salvage people enter TARDIS and the Doctor who took their magno grab button still has it on him. Episode goes by, not much happens, some nice nods to the past. Doctor from end of episode grabs the magna button and then uses the tear in time (again? time is very fragile these days) to throw the magna grab button (big friendly button) back to the Doctor from the beginning (repeating the scene where a random button arrived from pre credits). He then presses it again, which turns off the grabbing field and then flies the TARDIS away. Cutting to the scene with the three wooden extras who say that the salvage just vanished. It actually works and does make sense. It is just rubbish.

However, Moffat's era has - and I dont really think anyone can say this is not the case - seen a decided dip in quality and story coherency since Davies left. A poster last week made an excellent point that Moffat is a great writer, but Davies used him best as there was a framework and parameters in place. As chief writer/show runner, Moffat doesnt seem to have the ability to make a coherent season of stories like Davies did (and before we go too far down the RTD is King route, lets all acknowledge his era had some stinkers to - "Hello 42" )

And, again, I love both eras of newDW, but lets be fair, some of the Davies stuff wasn't all that coherent, either - he had his fair share of copout/disappointing conclusions as well, especially the ends s3 & 4...

Agree with a lot of what's been said about this ep. Great references, nice visuals, too many corridors, shitty guest stars (seriously, was that really the best take they had of Bram's final line?? A frikkin' CYBERMAN could've done it better - come to think of it, maybe they should've got Brick Niggs to re-voice him. The guy who played Tricky was OK, though), dumb and unneccessary subplot, slightly lame conclusion. The library bit was interesting, and I love the concept of a drinkable Encyclopaedia!

With regard to the book...

I thought it was interesting that history of a centrally Gallifreyan war seemed to be written in English - or was the TARDIS translating it for her? If so, why?? (After all, she can't seem to read the other Gallifreyan lying around the place...)

All in all, enjoyed it a lot, but it felt like something undefinable was missing (no, not a plot, thank you...), had a pointless subplot, unlikeable guest cast, and an ACTUAL reset button. Think I need a rewatch on this 'un. Far better than Curse of the Slack Blot, though...

BTW: Interesting thought about Clara, Drake. Very interesting, indeed...

Disappointing is how I would describe last nights episode, in fact thats the word I would use to describe the entire series. After all the hype weve had about this story I was expecting something special, but at the end of the 45 minuets I was left feeling let down, a feeling Ive got used of late.

SM is a very capable and talented writer, he has proven that on more than one occasion but I am seriously starting to doubt his ability as a show runner. His story arcs for instance are seriously starting to bore me, the whole who is Clara? and whats the Doctors name? is getting very tedious. Why does he feel the need to have a theme for each series?

The reason DW was and is so popular is its ability to tell good stories, stories that can be enjoyed by anyone, stories with a beginning, middle and end, but all we are getting is a beginning, shaky middle and a copout ending coupled with endless over use of special effects to try and cover up poor writing, its all look at me, I look so good, but god Im dull, and if I see the sonic used in another ludicrous way once more I may drive down to Cardiff, snatch the bloody thing from Matts hand and jump on it.

Im fast losing hope of any sort of decent ending to an already dull, series, and god knows what were going to get for the anniversary episode.

SM has done his job very well in the past, writing some of the best new who, but maybe it is time for fresh blood at the helm.

Im just grateful we have the audios because if the program continues on its current path I may give series 8 a miss.

Rant over... I think.
