actually he just said "reversed the polarity" --- he said the whole phrasing once in The 5 Medics
the full phrasing was used more by the 5th doctor and was heard on screen and referenced more during the 5th Doctor's era [3 time by 5 himself and of course the one time by 3]

Now the radio plays actually use it twice by the third medic and the second time the Brig uses it only to be told by 3 that that means nothing.

Does anyone have any others higher than 456 (other than 457) that they could share?

Thanks!

Certainly he "reversed the polarity of the neutron flow" in The Seas Devils when he and the Master escaped at the end and blew up their base. Not sure he said it else where but as said he was always reversing this and that :)

He said "reverse the polarity" here and there, and the whole quote once again in The Five Doctors, I think.

Hi.

Thanks to another board member I could create formatted epub/mobi versions of the charity anthology S_h_e_l_f__L_i_f_e which apparently has not been shared here yet.

This time the archive does not include the pdf, because it is original (not scanned).
I strongly recommend everybody who wants to read it, to buy the pdf from the authors, as it's not expensive and the profits will be donated.

Correct. That is, in fact, a BLANK script that Matt is holding in the 'read-thru' photo published today. With Capaldi coming in, SM has decided to give the 'semi-improvised' technique as used on Thick of It a shot and see what happens...

Either that, or it has, in fact, been written, and today was the read-thru... ;P

They could spend days filming different characters running panicked through quarries and the streets of modern day Cardiff... If any one can tell the difference and... I suppose it's maybe possible that a rough draft of the script might have been completed in the last couple hours.

But there's no fucking way it's been spell checked.

kimekaro
09-05-2013, 01:37 PM
At this point, most of the actors involved have some experience in how to run down corridors, scream "Doctor??", throw switches on the Tardis consoles and stomp around in monster suits.

While not the most interesting parts to film, they are parts that require no dialogue rehearsal (just lots of panting, really) but make up a fair amount of content in the show these days. So, filming that stuff before the script is finalized would let them focus on the more word/plot heavy stuff later while getting the tedious action shots worked out ahead of time.

By the way, what the hell is up with that total name drop on how 11 dies?

There's at least a days worth of filming Matt whirling round with the sonic screwdriver and looking at it intently to be done as well.

I know what it is ... SM wants to do an even more mawkish send off than RTD ...

PAGE 1 - INT : TARDIS - The Doctor is flipping through his 500 Year Diary
PAGE 2 - MONTAGE - Old clips of the series (10 minutes)
PAGE 3 - INT : TARDIS - The Doctor has just suffered a very minor paper cut
PAGE 4 - MONTAGE - As life energy slowly seeps out a a minor cut, The Doctor wordlessly goes back to every single companion he's ever known ever. (30 minutes. Classic and New) (Note From SM: No 8th. Lets continute to crap on him even though there's no real reason)
PAGE 5 - INT : TARDIS - The Doctor recreates the Nick Cage bit from The Rock as he falls to his knees and screams to the skies that The Time Has Not Been Prepared For!!!
PAGE 6 - MONTAGE - All regenerations ever (Note From SM - Don't let 8th get on screen.) (20 minutes)
PAGE 7 - INT : TARDIS - Superdooper new regen effect. New Doctor emerges. (Note From SM - Just use Matt's opening lines but switch them around. The Fans won't notice.)
PAGE 8 - INT : TARDIS - Clara enters the Console Room. Says "Phhroow!!!"
THE END

The comedian and writer Charlie Higson has been announced as the latest author in the series of Doctor Who ebooks.
"I grew up with Doctor Who and have always been a massive fan so it's a great honour to be involved," he said.

To celebrate the BBC programme's 50th anniversary, 11 short stories are being published - one for each incarnation of the Time Lord. Higson will be writing the ninth story in the series, based on the Doctor played by Christopher Eccleston. The new story will be published on 23 September with the previous eight ebooks already available.

Back in dial up times it took me 3 days to download the runnaway bride.

Before that, the postman would hand over vhs tapes to a friend from all across the world and then he would gather us to watch brand new sci fi and unusual things in our PJs... Which in retrospect was probably faster than my dial up.

(Yes it was 3 days, yes that is slower than it should have been. My dial up was special needs.)

NileQT1987
09-08-2013, 12:22 AM
A bit late to still have had dial-up in 2006.

We switched to a cable modem around 2001. Dial-up was a bad nightmare from 1998 (the year I got on the Internet, age 11) by that point!

And I was definitely torrenting by 2005 (a lot of Buffy and Angel). And I remember Napster from way back when and those days of p2p (probably Kazaa by that point) gave me my Elvis obsession by introducing me to An American Trilogy instead of endless greatest hits packages! Thank goodness for torrents and filelockers now.

I've now got a 1 MB/s connection instead of the 700 kB/s that I had for the longest time. Dial-up's old 56 kB/s would really make me cry!

Speaking of, when I was down in Buenos Aires in 2008 with my half-sister and her Argentinian ex-husband, they had the slowest (and probably cheapest in the country) Internet I've ever witnessed, even counting what I remembered of late '90s dial-up!

to be fair, it wasn't all that crazy. Sufficient strength of signal interference would scramble, or at least impair, delicate circuitry.

Does anyone have links for H3roik 3ff0rts - 0$$kah and War 0f th3 Pepperpots?
Some of the links at his blog are dead and Pepperpots seems to be gone entirely.
Actually, I can't really tell if it was ever released....

A version of the little green imp is back. Your old password still works. Seems relatively stable now, but be very careful. The first few months were plagued by malevolent creatures. d2.vu (http://www.d2.vu/)

Noted: The original operators deny involvement, claim the new effort is entirely independent, but admit the database is from a backup copy.

This may be a dumb question, or it may be awesome.... As an outsider to British entertanment culture (read:dumb Yank), I am fascinated with what little I've seen of it. Has anyone seen Doctor Who/The Goodies crossover fanfiction? I would think with a tagline like "We Do Anything, Anytime, Anywhere" they could (and should) get caught up in the TARDIS's wake.

Back to lurk-mode.

The 3 Drs re-imagined with Graeme as Hartnell, Bill as Troughton & Tim as Pertwee, with Tessa Wyatt as Jo, Henry McGee as Omega ("Nasty Person"), and Patrick Moore as The Brig - it'd be Brilliant!!!!

Alternately, you can just pretend the Episodes with Troughton & Pertwee (The Baddies & Wacky Wales) are Who cross-over episodes... ;)

On the one hand, any notoriety or success that LC gets makes me happy - because they are REALLY as much the reason that DW is around today as RTD. And they have given a LOT of actors and actresses a chance to get some limelight that they would otherwise never have recieved. Sarah of Trakken comes to mind.

On the Other Hand, Pathfinders? Survivors? Really??

I think, in fairness, the former is probably more likely Piazo wanting to try and do their equivalent of The Black Library like Games Workshop does for their Warhammer universe. BF used to produce some of The Black Library audios, so they've got a bit of a track-record in that regard.

I'm still shaking-my-head over The Survivors one, though. It's not like The Avengers where the 'originals' have been lost, and they're not doing anything New.

Why is everyone so shiny? Did someone pour a bucket of animated water over every animated actors head? and I know traditional animation is a completely lost art now days but if you're going to do an art style that emulates traditional animation try using actual traditional animation. The CGness of it makes it look like cheap rubber puppets only not. Which is crappy.

In fact, this is a better way to make money by diversifying, instead of umpteen DW-related releases per month that none but those unaffected by the economic situation or better off than most can afford to buy all of. This way, their Venn diagram will have a smaller overlap of circles and might diminish some of the lost revenue they frequently talk about.

And they might possibly employ more writers :)

As I have been saying for awhile, PD's relationship with DT is basically a free-pass to popularity and appearances in any medic related adventures that feature DT.

Which is *fine*, although he is by no means my favorite of the older fellows, he is one of the few that still looks mostly like his old appearance. Although, number 7 looks EXACTLY like he used to (and I like him more >_>) but hey that is what connections get you.

Just posted on Facebook by the BBC.

https://www.facebook.com/BBCOne/posts/631913616829060

Now we know this post is quite wordy but we wanted to let you know about ALL of the other things happening across the BBC to mark our very own #DoctorWho's 50th anniversary in November - and there's a lot - so here goes...

ON #BBCTWO:
- In a special one-off programme, Professor Brian Cox will try to answer the classic questions raised by the Doctor – can you really travel in time? Does extra-terrestrial life exist in our galaxy? And how do you build something as fantastical as the TARDIS?

-The Culture Show will present ‘Me, You and Doctor Who’ with lifelong fan Matthew Sweet exploring the cultural significance of the BBC’s longest running TV drama, arguing that it’s one of the most important cultural artefacts of modern Britain.

- BBC Two will then wrap up its coverage with the previously announced ‘An Adventure in Space and Time’ written by Mark Gatiss

ON BBC Three:
-'Doctor Who: Monsters and Villains Weekend’ will countdown to the top Doctor Who monster as voted for by you.

- 'Doctor Who: The Ultimate Guide’ will introduce those less familiar to the show to a wealth of archive material and act as a guide to all things Who.

- We also have one further exciting commission to be announced later this year which will see the celebrations finish with a bang.

ON #BBCFOUR:
- Audiences will be introduce audiences to the first Doctor, William Hartnell, with a special re-run of the first ever story, which marked the start of 50 years of history. The four episodes are being shown in a restored format, not previously broadcast in the UK.

There will also be programmes across #CBBC including two live #BluePeter specials.

ON BBC Radio 1:
- A documentary will look at 'Time Lord Rock (TROCK)' as a genre of music inspired by the Doctor and his journeys through space and time.

ON BBC Radio 2
- 'Who is the Doctor' will look at the lasting appeal of Doctor Who and ask how much of its continued success can be attributed to its basic formula.

- In ‘The Blagger’s Guide to Doctor Who’, David Quantick will give the iconic Doctor the Blagger’s treatment. He’ll be finding out the answers to questions such as why do Americans think Tom Baker is still Doctor Who? How many Doctors have there really been? Were the Daleks really named after an encyclopaedia?

- Finally, Graham Norton will be broadcasting his weekly Radio 2 show live (Saturday 23 November, 10am) from the Doctor Who Celebration in London.

What would have cost the bbc almost nothing would have been to have walkons/walkthroughs as all the old Doctors and companions wander/sneak through the background of existing shows doing something weird, in character and full costume.

A weeks worth of coronation street and/or East Enders (I don't know or care what stations that they are really broad cast on which are not the BBC.) suddenly becomes the Who version of Where's Waldo.

Donna Noble on Jeremy Kyle.

These sons of #####s have had 25 years since the last noteworthy anniversary to get their shit together.

If someone is kind enough to provide links to items, ask permission before posting those self-same links elsewhere AND thank the original uploader OR re-up yourself and provide NEW links, AGAIN thanking the original uploader...

I'm not going to name names, but you know who you are...

It's bad form to take credit for someone else's work.

Soooooooooooooooooooo, no sooner do I champion buying the DGray audios from the source because they're so cheap, the gits then go and announce the upcoming H'Ween special at a cost equivalent to almost *4* times the price for only about double the length!! Yeah, nice one LC - way to encourage good sales on what should be a temptingly cheap one-off to appeal to the curious. It's Baxtamin & Benjter all over again...

I hereby formally at least partially revoke my earlier statements, and am really starting to wonder if they actually know what they're doing pricing-wise sometimes... :(

Classic technique also used by drug dealers. Offer a few cheap fixes and then ramp the price right up once you're hooked :D

I think it's part of a very subtle, long-term, plan by Jason ... by steadily increasing the number of BF releases and how much they charge they'll eventually suck-up all the currency in the world until such a time that BF CDs are the actual currency themselves ....

It's bound to be something like that, though. A 'never-was' Doctor/Valeyard type thing; the possible results of a regeneration going Left rather than Right.

In the final scene of the last series, aren't they still in "The Doctor's Timeline" landscape and not The Real World landscape, so effectively all in the Doctor's head?

What we really have to remember, which sucks, is that everything in the LC series as well as the novels is not considered to be technical canon. So While we LC and New Adventures fans have this rich tapestry of awesome 8th doctor events, the standard fan does not. It is even possible that the BBC and Moff could just outright ignore #8's movie and go with Hurt as #8.

No, it's not. #8 has been featured in the new series - video clips and "a representation" during the Clara in the timeline sequence of The Name O' The Medic last season.

I see where you're coming from, but joking aside Paul's place in the Canon has been confirmed on screen more than enough times that to erase him now would be somewhat difficult. There's the picture of him in 'Human Nature', flashback in 'The Next Doctor' and the montage in 'The 11th Hour' as well as a VERY brief, blink and you'll miss it, in the last one.

And they've only recently released the 8th Doc Destiny audio that ties directly into the current incarnation.

Just to share my opinion on the monthlies;

D's Arn't There:

Arrowsmith is the Daphne in Doctor Seven's Scooby Gang - essentially the dumb blonde in distress (if not dis dress).

I can see how his hapless geek persona is perfectly pitched to match and appeal to the old school "meat pie smell" whovian, but in this story his craptitude leads to scores of entirely unnecessary deaths. I think this is probably the best thing about Barnes' otherwise entirely predictable story - the Nazis, Daleks and Davros commit genocide through meglomania, Arrowsmith, by comparison, is a blundering serial killer - he's the Pied Piper of Stupid Deaths.

Of the two releases Barnes' is by far the lesser, it's strengths are entirely carried by Tracy Childs' performance(s).

Robson's Mersey Beat bonkersness romps home with a far more rewarding tale - though the pattern for his story seems like a straight lift from Paul Magrs' slightly more poignant "Horror of Glam Rock". The similarities between the two stories, both in execution and production, are striking.

Taken as a whole, 7s has a good trilogy that paid off pretty well this month. Agree that this three work together really well and I've really taken to Arrowsmith. I'll not complain if we get more of them sometime down the line. This one really felt like you could tell the actors were properly enjoying themselves.

I think it's safe to say that 99% of the time the cast in all of BFs productions are having fun, but there are times that they all seem to really CLICK! together and that shear pleasure in performance really adds an extra shine.

Not a bad D story, and a very chilling performance from Mr B at times ...

Yes, it's always good when he finally, finally dies. It's the bit I look forward to most keenly...

Sorry to ask a dumb question - are these stories consider part of the original storyline or are they a reboot of the Blokes 6+1?

The 'reboot' stories.

The 'met Villa' one is a bit of an oddity, though, as it has Keaton playing HIS Vila (who's nothing like the Reboot Vila), but the Reboot Gan, and some details of The Liberator don't gel with the rest of the series.

:D

No, credit where it's due. I'm happy to be at the head of those wanting to give him a clip round the ear at times, but I thought his performance of "Ralf" was pretty good.

Does anyone know if the Dark Eyes 2 box set is still in the pipeline?
Ive checked the BF website but it seems to have had all mention of it removed.

According to a recent podcast, they are now simply estimated for the first part of the year. With recording *hopefully* happening in the next few months. Of course, recording is only a halfway step; with music, sfx and packaging materials needing to be made as well. The whole process usually takes about 7 months to a year depending on the schedule (this is after recording).

Soooooooooooooo, don't hold your breath on Feb. But hey, I would love some more Mcgann sooner than later as well.

For anyone that wants a little something D-related to laugh at, The Dalek Game (http://tanaudel.wordpress.com/daleks/) is pretty great.

That made me laugh!

Thanks so much Bulletzen. It's my B/day next Friday.

On a sad note I report that my Father passed away yesterday whilst visiting him in the Nursing Home he resided.

Very sorry to hear that, mate. It's hard road, with aged parents...

All strength to you and yours.

I'm sorry to hear that, Exterminate Me. I'm about to become a dad myself for the first time at 37, so I'm very aware of how much older I will be when my son's my age.

@stinkor - me too at 44! God help the child, brought up on pepper pots and boxes that are smaller on the outside. Good luck to you and massive condolences to ExterminateMe.

My condolences for your loss, Exterminate Me. I recently experienced a loss of my own, so I feel your pain. However, in my case, it was a sudden accidental drowning of an old high school friend of mine. I had to attend her funeral on my birthday, which was a tad off-putting. But her family was grateful I was able to come in spite of it. Her younger sister -who had informed me of the death via Facebook- especially appreciated it, since she and I had always been concerned about her well-being.

PAH!!! We all know perfectly well that they should have broken in the high-security vault (*) in Big Finish Towers and released them into the wild LAST WEEK!!!

In fact ... why haven't we got people hiding in the recording booths getting us bootleg releases?

-

(*) I say 'high-security vault', but suspect it's really a shoe-box on Briggs' desk.

By the way, does anyone happen to have Blokes 6+1 LC stuff? I've only got Freedomfighter stories 1 and 4 and Fightboat.

Just wondering, I'd probably not listen to them for a while.

I'm really hopping it's a Valeyard thing cause a)that'd be AWESOME, and 2)... I mean b) it would make sense with what was seen on screen as well as the dialouge in The Name of the Doctor. ...The only other possiblities that would be remotely exceptible are, if it were an alternate timeline Doctor, or it's 8 near the end of the Time War having basicly snapped.

If it's like some mid regeneration Doc that suck caused it'd mean that the writers ripped off the fan film Devious, at least a little bit.

Security! We have a codespeak violation in Sector Three! All right, pal. It's off to the brig with you. Or maybe the Brig.... or the Brigg. That's an automatic sentence of three seasons-- we might be strict around here, but we still wouldn't want to see you typecast.

For all his faults, The Moff is great at word play and how the emphasis of certain words in certain sentences gives a completely different meaning. How 'the NAME of The Doctor' is different from "the name of THE doctor" along with the phrase of 'in the name of ...' or 'by the name of...' - how you change the emphasis of those gives completely different meanings.

But ... I just want an episode where, regardless of what ever The Moff throws at us, at the end I want to cry to the skies "F*CK ME THAT WAS AMAZING!!!" ... but I just keep getting that feeling it's going to be more "F&CK ME THAT WAS ... Oh .. hang on ... that bit doesn't make sense ... er ... yeah ... that was bollix ...."

At least the UK is finally getting The Revisited series ... if you can get this particular obscure subscription channel ...

Doctor Who 50th anniversary: Watch to air BBC America series The Doctors Revisited in the UK | Radio Times (http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2013-09-13/doctor-who-50th-anniversary-watch-to-air-bbc-america-series-the-doctors-revisited-in-the-uk)

Or as SM would say ... "Doctor Who is going to take over television...........'s channels you've never heard of"
