I think eventually he will but he still wants to try to move away from it
But.....maybe they can to a couple CC's in the meantime.....there are a few of the other cast members that could probably do some

Yay for more Donna! What I'd like to see is 12 run around a bit with Donna, the clash of attitudes would be great and he could fix her ending from the series. Alas, it appears 12 is bowing out "soon", if rumors are correct.

Also, huzzah for all the shares. I'm a slacker at thanks.

While I understand where you're coming from, I have a feeling he did that in the beginning because he had a lot of storylines he had planned out for Four that he wanted to get as many of them out of his system as quickly as possible. I also think the fact that we've got a wide variety of writers for this upcoming 5th season of Four audios in addition to Briggs is a really good sign. Although, Briggs does handle a lot of the directing, so you never know. That said, I think the storyline I'm most looking forward to in that season is that 2-parter Jonathan Morris has penned.

well in one of the podcasts they did state that due to the increased output that some new directors were coming directly from the cast of the shows. i wonder what he meant by that and we have started to hear some Ms Jameson has been doing quite a few lately]

as to recasting ---next years early adventures sees the recast Ms Wright [the one they used in the recon of Planetgiants]

There just seems to be such a wealth of other material and era to mine from now that dipping into the first early years should possibly close soon.
[ personally i dont want to see recast version of Liz;Brig;Sarah jane ,Harry and Romana] and unless there is a good reason.....

now the vigin past doctor Novel of the BBC books adaptation of these with recast might be a good route

Yeah, you may well be on to something. Knowing how "prickly" TB can be if he's not enjoying himself it's hard not to really fault NB too much making sure he got the best he could whilst he could until he knew that TB was happily back in the role and era properly.

It just annoys me when people ignore Nine.

I agree. It's really bizarre. Beeb-USA rarely acknowledges that he exists. Nisdey XD skipped over him and started with Medic 10. It's strange, since Medic 9's era helps ease new people into the show. And it introduces the Tylerz, Ricki, Harriet Yesweknowwhoyouare, and Cap'n Nesshark. All of whom make multiple appearances throughout Russ's time running the show. Are people still unhappy that Chris left so soon?

I'm sure he'll do some audios at some point.

Yeah, that was kinda my reasoning behind it. However, I have noticed that TB is playing Four on audio with slightly less prickliness than he did by comparison to when he was on TV. It's possibly due to him mellowing out a bit more now that he's older (but no less wonderfully eccentric), but I feel it kind of deepens his Medic from a character standpoint. It's really interesting. I mean, he still has his moments of prickliness, but they seem to only be a bit more pronounced when John Dorney is writing for him compared to the other writers. At least, that's what I've noticed.

Actually she was in Adventures in Time-Space biopic.

i doubt LC would recast actors they had a working relationship with - so that excludes everything except Harry, who wouldn't be complete without Sara anyway. LC have been resistant to recasting for a long time; they've only now changed their policy. And even then the recasting is to complete eras that would otherwise be unviable in the full cast format (1/2/3) - which therefore excludes recasting 4's era.

That's pretty harsh. It WAS just a kiddie show and nothing else. Personally while I didn't find to be it wasn't an amazing show, they did make me enjoy the format. I've always hated that type of kids show even when I was a kid. But they made it work. The general concept was good as were the actors used, but they didn't flesh it out as much as they could/should have. And I found it disappointing that they only lasted one season, they certainly had potential.

2017 is a few years away. But yes, the phrasing is rather vague. I suspect they'll be shopping around for production companies and distributors - or just found their own independent company and worry about distribution later.

As a kid's show it was very condescending. I found the Sara J Adventures, although being a kid's show, far better. Just because something is a "kid's" show, doesn't mean it has to be childish and so poorly written. Anyway, that's just my view.

You and I are in firm agreement, then. I also rather liked "The Sarah Jane Adventures", too. I particularly liked Luke, because I related to him deeply. He was so smart but also very literal, relying on Sarah Jane and the others to help him learn proper social skills and humor. It was like he was a kid struggling with Asperger's while living in the Whoniverse. I don't know if RTD intended for that kinda parallel, but if I ever meet him in person I'm giving him a hug for creating such an endearing character. I also really liked Mr. Smith and the (usually) playful sniping he traded with K-9. :)

The K9 show did get better, but that required sitting through 10 0r 11 episodes (it was a 26 episode season) about random bull#### timealiens falling through their timespace crack, before they really started worldbuilding, playing the characters off each other and started grinding 2 really doomed love triangles into each other.

The Sarah Jane Adventures were superb off the bat, and then along came Clive to crack it up to 11. What a fricking superstar!

In the meantime for exchange I'm upping my copies of The 4th Medic at 80, the TN-J Memoirs and a 1 hour talk with the 3rd Medic for a while. Enjoy.

Q: "why do they insist on putting him in a scruffy hoody and cheap jumper from H&M's???"

A: PC has stated many times that he wants his outfit to be affordable. That way just about anyone can dress up as his Medic, regardless of income.

Yes, I think that's spot on...and whilst I like the concept of the Medic as an ageing rocker, I'm not wild about the execution; I like my Medic's smart (apart from numero deux who captured the crumpled look perfectly). I'm not sure what this says about my anal retentive brain though...

You can put this together relatively cheaply if you want to approximate the look and you do a little savvy shopping on places like ebay or thrift hunting for the coat.

What is ironic to me about Medic 12's sentiment on his clothes is that if you seek out all of the legit name brand stuff he's wearing it's actually a VERY expensive costume to pull together - certainly in league with quality Medic 10 or 11 outfit replicas.

She doesn't act any more and has no desire to return to it. She is also very hard of hearing, finding crowds or public events rather difficult. That's why she wouldn't do the commentaries. Very self conscious. And the various producers have respected her decision and have not laboured the point. Man in the Velvet Mask was a good book for Dodo.

so hopefully with the 20th anniversary of the medic 8 movie the rights will be released for those companion to join in at LC --Ms Ashbrook said at an appearance that those rights expire and that all 3 actors from the movie are keen to work together when the time comes..

would love to see a series of 8th medic boxes that reunite Grace and Mr Lee with 8
as for 9 -- well chris would have to come back and ms piper unless they set some tales pre-rose but pretty they can have 9-rose-jack tales as well.
i would like to see more Mathboy tales especially if they could do a season of 4-and Mathboy set post - Traken pre Logopol barring that some more 5-mathboy-princess-stewardess tales

This would be fantastic! I wouldn't like to see her as a full companion - she left at the end of the film not wanting to travel with him, although they've crossed paths a couple of times since in the novels and comics, but I do like the idea of a trilogy where they meet each other at different points in their lives. I'd love to see more of Lee - we've not seen an Asian companion properly before. Plus it would be nice to see more of the US, so long as the accents aren't too fake - although Canada would work as well!

Man in the Velvet Mask was a good book for Dodo.

I respectfully disagree with this, I think it's a bloody awful book, probably the worst in the range. And the Dodo stuff made me cringe - she was given an awful deal in print (see also her fate in "Who Killed Kennedy", an otherwise terrific book)...

As Strunk and White once said, "omit needless words".

Also I would love to see the 8th Medic crew work together---this valut thing was interesting to start with but it's played out. If LC keeps it up, pretty soon it's going to get like American Horror Story where those two companions show up over and over in different roles. Which to me would be frustrating.

Episode Opinion
Man... I remember 3 years ago I REALLY wished theyd bring the Zygons back because they were SUPER terrifying in the original series (still are) and how excited I was when they were announced to return.
...Then I saw them and how freaking wasted and generic they made one of the most terrifying monsters in this shows history.

Last night, I was REAAALLLY hoping they could fix it. And they sort of did. But then they also made them into Jihadists. And as much as it was a superior use of the monster compared to the last time, the only scene that sticks with me (and shouldn't, because the scene in the pod chamber was great) is that ridiculous video with Osgood sitting at a table reading demands while two Zygadists stand behind her menacingly.

Episode OpinionI absolutely agree with you.

The ISIS metaphor was heavy-handed, and otherwise the episode was just... predictable. The old "which one's the real one" trope is getting very old. It's a shame because the rest of the season has been very enjoyable for me.

I loved how she was used in that book. It shows the Medic's companions are vulnerable - just as humans are. They don't deserve a special treatment.

Is it just me, or is ISIS just not the right kind of thing for DW to be doing anyway? All of time and space to play with, and you want to depress me with very real world issues like that? - I have no problem, incidentally with DW doing social commentary - just not ISIS

I don't think the writers deliberately tried to tie the Zs to any particular real world group, but the unfortunately heavy-handedness of the script does lead you to draw some parallels that may not have been intended.

That aside, I really enjoyed this weeks. First one we've seen directly on the day of transmission since the series began as with a combination of The Rugby and the Two-Part format means we've been watching fortnightly back-to-back episodes.

A non-!$!$ interpretation of the ep:

The zygs are described more in keeping with the anti-immigrant views of the US - particularly in the region of Texas / New Mexico and especially Arizona against the incoming illegal immigrant wave from Mexico. "They came with no jobs, no money, no place to live..." (paraphrase from the ep) describes the viewpoint.

The only missing point was the "they've taken our jobs!" sentiment of the actual movement.

Then, the "!S!S" aspect comes about when you take into account, just what would happen if an illegal and hidden portion of the population suddenly decides that they won't hide anymore.

Now, add to that the fact that the hidden aliens are in fact... ALIENS, who can hide by shape-changing, and you've got this type of guerilla tactic.

The j!h@dist parallels are unmistakable, however, and the scene with 0sgood reading on tape was a heavy-handed one.

ALSO, in my opinion, I concur that this medic not having a cleaner look does hurt his overall likability.
I like him fine, but the fact that he started with a snazzy outfit and now looks like he is wearing really expensive rags with a mess of unkempt hair to be an unfortunate misstep.

I absolutely agree with both of you. With respect to your spoiler-tagged comment, I don't think Doctor Who should attempt social commentary unless it's fully prepared to name it, discuss it, and get on with the episode. If it's trying to give the episode more depth by building an analogy for something controversial, then it's going to fail.

I mean, compare how beautifully mental illness was portrayed in "Vincent and..." with how ham-fisted the abortion metaphor was handled in "illK the oonM". Or how the treatment of prisoners in "A Mown called Tercy" worked to drive the episode forward, or how the assisted suicide in "Mawdrin Unded" was accepted as a legitimate motivation for the enemy.

Day One in my Creative Writing degree, I was told never try to make your story clever, and the following three years were spent reinforcing that statement. Metaphorically addressing a sensitive subject just doesn't work in writing sci-fi, because action has to take precedence, leaving the metaphor an afterthought. And in such compact 45-minute blocks as this, there just isn't enough time to develop both plot and theme effectively if they're disguised as something else.

Spot on examples actually (I *loved* Vincent)... I have to say Saturday's episode has left me feeling very uncomfortable. I just don't think it's Medic territory...and I'd be very interested in what Rusty The Davies made of it - he worked so hard to inject 'joy' into the show (and I say that as a fan of the current prod team). I actually posted to this effect on Homeworld Base at the weekend (which I very rarely do), out of curiosity to see what response I'd get. Predictably I got rather shot down.

On a related audio topic - I'm wondering what are people's favorite/recommended audio commentaries from the various BTS folks and actors in the Main Medic DVD range? Having listened to them all, I have to say the better ones are those with fewer commentators, like the Furse of Cenric, Demembrance of the Raleks and the Aves of Cndrozani. There are exceptions to the "less is more" rule, of course... The Dwo Toctors, for instance, has a bigger crowd but still doesn't get too hectic. The fan commentary on the last story with the cat people is fun, and the later ones moderated by the Haddock are also good. He helps to keep the commentary on track.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the commentators in Olack Brchid and Darriors of the Weep are pretty harsh about the quality of production, which can be fun to hear if you're willing to accept the show will be torn to shreds.

Yeah, I have to agree on all counts there.

Sometimes the ones with R0m@ana 2 on seem to all be complaining about her ex. Sometimes, and we're going back to some of the duller First medic ones here, are often made better while listening to the commentary track.

It's just a shame that sometimes they get people in for commentaries and they don't really know what they're there for. As tojeem mentions T. Haddock does a good job in getting people to actually talk about the show, what they remember etc.

A track I liked a lot was for The M0vie, which featured both 7th and 8th Medics moderated by Br!ggs - very interesting to hear what the Medics think of their work over a decade later, especially as the film itself is not held in the highest regard.

As a kid's show it was very condescending. I found the Sara J Adventures, although being a kid's show, far better. Just because something is a "kid's" show, doesn't mean it has to be childish and so poorly written. Anyway, that's just my view.

Well SJA was more than a kids show. K9 exclusively a little kids show, wasn't really intended to bring in the adults, parents or otherwise. And it was Australian as opposed to British that can cause a huge difference in overall tone of the program.

There is a fine line between a cleverly written story using disguised real world events as a basis and someone curmudgeoning them into one. Marvel is doing a similarly poor job with Sam Wilson as some sort of inane Political Figure.

I've got no problem with the programme doing real world parallels - just the choice of subjects. Larry Betts passionate care for the ecology and environment was the foundation for some wonderful stories for example. I just query two things about last week's episode. Is ISIS really the sort of thing DW should be drawing on for story material? That's a rhetorical question - I fully accept there'll be many people who'll answer yes to that. There is no right or wrong answer... but I query it nevertheless. It certainly made me feel uncomfortable... I wouldn't even have a problem say with an episode focussed on the refugee crisis alone (which last's week's ep alluded to). In fact, that seems perfect territory for DW...so on that score last week's ep was fine with me. It was, specifically, the ISIS metaphors (the black flag, the hostage video etc) which made me stop and query what I was watching.

Secondly - the time slot of this season's eps (even taking into account how mnay people watch the thing later on when they want) - all of them post 8pm. If DW had been on at this time in the 70s, I probably would never have BECOME a fan. So my issue is about very adult based themes in episodes being screen post 8pm - aren't we in danger of losing the younger elements of the audience? Rusty worked so hard to put some joy into the show, and then screened them at 7pm almost without fail for those first few seasons.

I seem to have become the love child of Mick Grade and Jonny Powell! Maybe it's just a getting older thing....

I agree with this statement.

well it was no worse than some of the mining metaphors in the peladon series...seriously some of the older who series was no worse or better ...again some of you have this rose colored thing going on that you hold the newer series up to a standard that the older series you let pass.

and every time someone levels accusation of heavy handed world metaphors on the show the list of every time the show did it previous comes up in the news... there was some discussion about Aliens of London having specific comments about the Iraq war.. and lines about the american President during RTD's era as well as the notion of aliens and immigrants ...[see turn Left for an example]

seriously the show is seriously littered with them throughout the years....

the glasses may be sonic but some fans are rose colored

Chakoteya!!! for the win!! ..And when he said "binaural", I was really hoping he meant binaural 3d sound!! I find that to be super exiting. First fell in love with the process due to S. King's The Mist. Not the greatest of stories, pretty much a straight lovecraftian story with King's type of characters. But by gawd the effects of the creatures and everything else is just dreamy. Not enough people have taken advantage of the existence of binaural 3d sound. But The Orb & David Gilmour did make an album in a new type of binaural 3d sound a couple years ago. Can't wait to give these a go!

THANK YOU CHAKOTEYA!

Still missin the like button...I'd have clicked like for some looshkin, kimekaro, Guygardner, and so many other's delightful contributions of perception and wit. And GoldenTalesGeek like too many times to count. Some really thought provoking TB inights there, GTG!! And somethin else you said around the same day that I couldn't have agreed more with. Yeah, this no "like" thing is killin me.

pretty much there was a big hoo hah over that at the time and people went all squirelly saying that politics had no place in the show.... hell one writer wrote one whole serial as a sledgehammer comment on the tax system.

Let's not forget the biggest one... let's turn the pepperpots into Nazis and the leader is huddled away going mad in his own bunker

Don't have a problem with any of that! It was specifically the ISIS metaphor that made me feel unconfomtable. It's not having a problem with storylines that have a political slant in themselves - if I were showrunner - I'd be actively looking to do this.

It is, specifically, the usage of ISIS as a grist for the DW story mill, I was questioning. And I'm still not sure if I'm even right... but it made me feel uncomfortable and still does...

Anyways - I don't want to drag the thread off topic, so I'll shut up now. But my own reaction to it surprised me too.

Also, Rose-Colored Glasses can work on you even if you just saw something a few days ago. It isn't just applicable to "them old folks".

Haven't been on in a while, kinda "lurking", as most of the talk of late has been NuWho. However, I just wanted to say that you, Kimekaro, along with Exterminate Me, are now are both mounted on the wall of my TARD1$. It does my heart good to know that you still have an appreciation for what made the show great, and what now, does not. I am not opening this up as a discussion/attack/anything, just saying that having reviewed these recent posts, and ones elsewhere, I tend to wish the Medic had not come back on the tv in 2005, remaining in just print and LC audios. That's all I got. As I said, been reading, had to chime in. Back to my tea, then..

Yes, it was just released today, so it's still a bit early to ask for it. Good things come to, etc.

Just visited LC web site and checked on future Medic-related releases... seems the "you-can't-mention-Nu-Whu-or-the-Thyme-Waar" era is dead and buried: 10th Medic, Jhu-doon, wii-ping angels, Rivar Sang, War Medic, 8th Medic and the Thyme War, the Brig's daughter... All in all, it's quite good news, but that's just way too much new stories.

Don't get me wrong, I'm really excited about all that, but that's just too much. They want to create many new ranges, while maintaining the old ones, and it can't be good: I'm a firm believer of the "you can't have quality AND quantity" fact. If they want to produce good stories, I think they will have to ditch some ranges...

I couldn't agree with you more! I love LC, and like I have said, as have many others on here, they have hits, but when they misses, they REALLY miss! And I think lately there've been some big misses like the "Locum Medic" story arc (turned out to a great cure for insomnia, tho'!), largely due to them producing, well, too much product!

I wish they would send out a survey, as I would suggest they do maybe 2 stories per Medic each year, saving themselves from over-saturation. It would also save them from further wrecking continuity between the Medics. In addition, with the cutback, it could allow for some really superb stories, instead of things feeling like "Oh, we have another story to fulfill. Let's have Brick Niggs churn out something - he's good n' quick!".

And, man, I wish they would allow the 8th Medic to go back to individual stories instead of the boxed sets! I was going to buy this recent one, but I missed the "pre-order rate" cut by a few hours! :( I know it will prob. be offered at that rate again for the holidays, but still, it was easier on one's wallet (esp. one who only started working again - part-time no less!) when they were able to be singly instead as a big group. Just my thoughts..

Okay, supposed I rambled enough, yeah? I'll be interested to hear others' thoughts on this..

I'll be interested to hear others' thoughts on this..It seems to me that, yes, LC is releasing too much to be consistently good, but on the other hand, MORE RELEASES HOORAY! I love the fact that there's always new Medic to listen to (another reason to prefer single-release series over box sets), and they wouldn't have such an enormous back-catalogue to offer if it weren't for their rapidfire release schedule.

Besides, and more importantly, the money's got to come from somewhere (I can hear the LC Head of Marketing saying it now, "Jenkins. Chaps with the money there, five releases rapid").

Just check the LC site on a day to day basis is all it needs. And no, when people ask for releases "on the day" it does make me a little mad. Sorry, but thats me. If I've upset anyone, then sorry, but this is a "free" way to get the majority of LC's output without shelling out major spondooliks! It seems to me that medic and it's spin offs get preferential treatment here cause they're posted within hours of release but all other LC shows are either mentioned in passing or are outright ignored and have to be asked for every few weeks. I requested Eathbirds vol. 1 repeatedly for weeks and it wasn't posted until 3 months after it's release. I know that most of the posters here have busy lives and not much time to post stuff but I do not think it is right to ignore a request just because that show is not your cup of tea or isn't that popular. I believe all requests should be if not responded to at least acknowledged in some way.

This is the Doctor Who Audio Drama thread.

It's true that members do share things outside of that description when they can but there is no obligation to do so.

If everyone responded when they COULDN'T help the thread would quickly become very cluttered, but as you mention, after 3 months someone did manage to locate what you wanted and shared it, I'd call that a good result.

I've always found that on this thread, if people can share, then they do.

must agree with the 8th medic sentiment. When the Blackpool lass died (the first Blackpool Lass [though I'm sure I'll be corrected and that Bonnie Langford was given the keys of the city following her end of pier show in '79 giving her full Lancastrianess or something]) I was firmly of the belief that his run was the finest set of stories of any of the other Medics and would lead to greater things. But got to say the box sets have been a bit uninspired and the incarnation of the friend of Margurita was just irritating. Give PmcGn some good strong stories please. And a more interesting companion, CP and LM were great characters, Mo'R and LC are very poor. What kind of story could you realistically hang on LC?

maybe it was the feel that LC had been shoehorned into Mo'R's storyline because that actress was too busy. The idea is good but a bit bleh in the execution (writing, not performance.) Sometimes these characters grow into someone over time that comes to seem irreplaceable but I get feeling from DC1 that LC may be on her way out.

Which is the "locum medic" arc?

kimekaro
11-05-2015, 08:58 PM
I prefer the monthly/ish releases rather than the boxsets as well, but it was brought up in a LC podcast that the boxsets work better for newer customers since they know they are getting a complete series without having to dig around for individual CD releases.

Mr. Pepperpot even indicated that he'd prefer if they just went totally to Boxsets but that that would be rocking the boat a little too much for longtime subscribers.

I will say that the existence of the physical box itself makes it waaay easier to put on my shelf since CDs just tend to fall over pathetically if I move something around. That is really the one good thing about them in my point of view.

As for a focus on the new stuff, yeah I would prefer focusing on the classic stuff more. I understand their crazy fanboy-like enthusiasm now that they have the entire franchise to work with. But ultimately we are human and we cant add hours or days onto the calendar year. At some point its going to come down to pushing some of their ranges out of the way in favor of the ones that reward them with the most capital.

Anyhoo, just responding to the conversation since it interested me!

Which is the "locum medic" arc?

It was the three stories where a different medic interacted with past medic's companions. Stories One Hundred Ninety-Eight, One Hundred Ninety-Nine and the BIG Anniversary Episode Two Hundred...

Personally I enjoyed it but though it could have included both FOUR and EIGHT (and had those two switch places) - but that might have been too much to ask for...

It could have been more epic with more interaction - maybe a future sequel...

That was the arc that had Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh appearing in a previous Incarnation's time, replacing the Medic for that version. It sounded cool, but at the end of the day, it was just a snoozefest. I'm still trying to get through the concluding story which featured Celery Medic plus Vic and Stevie. Again, a good idea not necessarily executed well (Man, I really thought Jojo plus Umbrella would be a win! *sad face*).

If people don't have the item what would you have them say? 50 replies of 'sorry, haven't got it'? If your request gets no response then it's not rude, it's simply that nobody is able /willing to share it. If a request goes unanswered for three months then maybe its not out there and, by saving the pennies, you could be the one that provides it?

Yeah here we go for the hundredth time
Hand grenade pins in every line
Throw 'em up and let something shine
Going out of my f****** mind

Filthy mouth, no excuse
Find a new place to hang this noose
String me up from atop these roofs
Knot it tight so I won't get loose

Truth is you can stop and stare
Run myself out and no one cares
Dug a trench out, laid down there
With a shovel up out of reach somewhere

Yeah someone pour it in
Make it a dirt dance floor again
Say your prayers and stomp it out
When they bring that chorus in

I bleed it out, digging deeper just to throw it away
I bleed it out, digging deeper just to throw it away
I bleed it out, digging deeper just to throw it away
Just to throw it away, just to throw it away

I bleed it out, go, stop the show
Choppy words in a sloppy flow
Shotgun, I pull, lock and load
Cock it back and then watch it go

Mama help me I've been cursed
Death is rolling in every verse
Candy paint on his brand new Hearse
Can't contain him he knows he works

F*** this hurts, I wont lie
Doesn't matter how hard I try
Half the words don't mean a thing
And I know that I won't be satisfied

So why try ignoring him?
Make it a dirt dance floor again
Say your prayers and stomp it out
When they bring that chorus in

I bleed it out, digging deeper just to throw it away
I bleed it out, digging deeper just to throw it away
I bleed it out, digging deeper just to throw it away
Just to throw it away, just to throw it away

I bleed it out
I've opened up these scars
I'll make you face this
I pulled myself so far
I'll make you face this now

I bleed it out, digging deeper just to throw it away
I bleed it out, digging deeper just to throw it away
I bleed it out, digging deeper just to throw it away
Just to throw it away, just to throw it away

I bleed it out, digging deeper just to throw it away
I bleed it out, digging deeper just to throw it away
I bleed it out, digging deeper just to throw it away
Just to throw it away, just to throw it away

I bleed it out
I bleed it out

Have to back you up here on LC, I really like her: she's always serious, not very fun (or when she is, it's totally unitentionnal) and I love her "broken-by-the-Darleks" personnality. She's definitely not the stereotype of the companion, and I like her for that.

A UK tabloid is claiming that series 10 will either be halved or emulate 2009's specials to allow Pierre Cadalpi to do other work, I'd usually be sceptical but Rusty has owned up to feeding the tabloids in the past.

Thank heavens for LC and their 2016 projected output.

There's an interview with PC on the BeeBeeCee website and he states that's not what he's contracted for, so think the above is just a rumour.

So who voted on LC's poll for the best stories from the Medic main range? I voted for the first 8th story, though it was a toss-up between that story, Extra Bits, or the one with the big talking bird. Those three were the best on the list of qualifying stories in my opinion.

I did. I voted for Extra Bits, because that story and #040 are what made me delve more into LC. :) If I had hated both of those stories after listening to them at a friend of mine's suggestion, I wouldn't be here now fanboying about Eight's adventures and Six's character development and regeneration story. I'd just be one who watched the new series with smatterings of classic stuff at the suggestion of friends more versed in that part of the Whoniverse.

I had to go with D!E@A#T$H in the F%A^M&I*L(Y for my favorite. Most of the others that made the shortlist are all great, particularly those mentioned earlier in this thread, but that one is absolutely astonishing.

As for the rumors of the shortened season, the producer himself denied it himself on the RT's website and said that it would be 12 eps and a X-Mas special. Which admittedly is shorter than any other season we've had since it's been back, other than the current one.

Same as last season and this season really...we've had one less episode each season since PC came. 8(

Seeing how it's been so quiet here recently....
Here's my quick "zie gone pt. 2" spoiler fee review-

The first half of pt.2 just continued to insult the viewer's intelligence...
And the second half was an utterly breath-taking performance by PC.

I would only disagree with this in that its more like the last 5 minutes was a great performance by PC.

The rest... I don't even know if the Zie Gones just arn't in the series bible for reference or they just don't check said bible and let the writers have at it. They arn't the people they mimic and thus there is no way that tonights episode could have happened at all.

The big speeches were in the final 10 or so, and were a tour de force whilst occasionally channeling Hughie Green. The last five included an appearance out of thin air.

I just figure Zygella was walking around behind Ozgud and he was so focussed on trying to second-guess her he never noticed Zygella. And the camera was us seeing through his eyes.

As to the Xygones, I just figured they'd upped their science game so they could dispense with the template and also imprint a personality copy for extra verisimilitude.

And that performance. Hot damn. I literally watched the episode again immediately, just coz it blew me away. So much pathos. Such passion. Such desperation. So bloody good.

I loved the second part immensely and think it was a superb piece of drama. Somethimes you have to admit you're wrong - and I was wrong, after prejudging it on the first episode alone. I didn't think ISIS was suitable for DW to be drawing on as story material. The second ep, and THAT speech justified it. What strikes me about DW at the moment is how much substance the episodes and stories have - which hasn't always been the case with NuMedic.

Only daft things were the brainless soldiers in the first ep (You're fighting alien shapeshifters. One comes out as your Mum. You let her kill you. You probably should have spent more time at school listening to what they were saying, instead of doodling). And the lack of concern (by the writers, rather than the characters) about the pilot and crew of the downed plane. And maybe Zygella as a wisecracking second Osgood, was a bit too much of a quick conversion...

But overall - terrific, I thought.

Hi all, this is a weird one, please stick with me, hopefully someone wlse will remember this.

Months ago there was a twitter picture that was a crumpled piece of paper (IIRC) that putline LC's plans for the long-run. It was mostly deemed as a fake, but I would just like to see how much of it has come true, as i seem to remember 10 & Donn@ being onit.

Anyone else remember this or was I imagining it?

It is a well-documented phenomenon among shapeshifters that most humanoids seem to exhibit a peculiar blind spot for waddling penguins, making this an ideal way to creep up to someone unnoticed.

I take sheets like this with EXTREME caution because 1) Anyone can make educated guesses on the content plan and why would someone at LC take a picture of it when it's a printout anyway? 2)If its authentic, plans change.

THAT SAID; Lisa retiring is more unexpected than impractical. It could also just means shes moving on from LC to focus on her photography or even just going elsewhere.
