Medic 7 The Virus Gets Even.

The monthly is up and will stay up for the weekend.

Also, I picked up a copy of The Specter of the Song House from the LC Classics range when it was on sale. If anyone is interested in listening to it, just let me know and I'll upload it later this weekend.

Thank you, DWST.
(Yes, please on SPECTRE HOUSE [though I'm headed out of town ...well...out of STATE... in an hour and I'll be away until Monday night. I hope to be able to catch the link then].)

Yes please, and thanks for the upload

sexbombsimon, any chance for a bigger view at your avatar?
I always love seeing these type of caricature cartoons of fictional characters {tho I hate seeing them of REAL people. Weird, that}.
Thanks.

Hey everybody! Any idea where i can find the new bennie adventures with 7 'n' Ace?
Also is it just me or is this month's link dead? Damn sendspace!

“The Specter of the Song House” from the LC Classics range.

Wow, I did not think many people would want this (or anybody here would want it for that matter). The last time I posted an LC Classic, very few downloaded it and, to me, it seemed as if they were only interested in it for Medic 4's performance as a certain pirate captain (which was a wonderful performance).

So, by request, here's the link.

Thoughts on the 5th medic stories? I think we could have done without waterboat. His voice is totally different so it's not easily identifiable with Aprick anyway. I thought Sachs did a fairly good job in the Young man that the hourglass could care less about. If I had a choice in the matter, I think i'd resurrect Kamelion from that era instead... Could have some really interesting stories with a shapeshifter...

TBH it's probably too soon to judge him properly, but he does need some more practice. If he's going to stay then a) he needs to learn from Peter about not letting an aged voice get in the way and b) the writers need to stop lampshading his eventual demise quite so much.

The first story wasn't bad, but finding hard to stay engaged with the second.

I'm not sure how successful a character like Kamelion would be on audio, though. There'd be far too much trying to casually drop into conversation a detailed description of what he happened to look like, at the time.

What if they hire a fairly competent celebrity/public figure impersonator to play Kamelion?

Or at least a voice actor that can sound like 15 different ordinary people?

I may have to revisit. Honestly too distracted by trying to give Mr W the benefit of the doubt whilst cringing at some of the performance.

Seriously, though, I do hope they do more with and he learns to relax and just get on with it.

LC have managed to turn round 6 and Mel, so hopefully they can 'redeem' him, too. It honestly would be a shame if these were the only two he did.

Let me just change one word in that statement: "Seriously, though, I do hope they do more with *I*F* he learns to relax and just get on with it."

I revisited the classics with the little guy lately and i have to say that his best stories IMHO were his first and last. FC was a really good story, albeit because of TB's awesome presence and i have to say that the idea of LW ripping off people's faces has always done something for me LOL. then of course the kid's last scene, let's give credit where credit is due, was very, very touching. The closing credits (or lack thereof) was a nice touch. That broken badge said it all. LC did redeem characters, especially the evil nymph *G* and mel. as far as 6 is concerned, he'll always be a favorite of mine. some (not all) bad stories, i agree, but great actor. we definitely saw this in Attack (what a great job by CB!!) and also in Mindwarp. I think that those stories really give us a great insight into 6'th psychology. he has a capacity for compassion that rivals 5's. I know that not everyone sees 6 in a good light (from the classic series point of view) but I've never understood why he got bashed so much. He was and is a great medic !

Ace said "Buzz Lightyear". :(

Of course who knows what's in the media library on the TARDIS?

Maybe she saw the new Star Wars movies years ago?

And... When 5 was talking about 3d printers infront of Tegan... She must have thought that was some sort of superalienmagicfuturetechnology. You'd have to wonder how often he does that? But some of the language Tegan was using to describe the metaphysics of the adventure was almost certainly foreign to 1983, or at least her 1983.

The decryption key is the last 45 alpha numerics in the link.

If it's asking for the decryption key, there's been a copy error where you missed off a couple letterdigits at the end.

The decryption key starts from (and includes) the second exclamation mark in the link as given.

Kinda sad if it's true. I like Jenna. then again, she worked great with 11, not necessarily with 12 (or 13 or new 1 whatever you want to call him)... i've taken the option of not viewing any of the leaked episodes but from what i can gather from subtle hints, this medic is going to be somewhat aggresive. If we had another leela, it would be great or maybe a Benny type. that would work too.

Well until I see it officially announced on the beeb, it's all just rumour and conjecture.

Although I wouldn't be surprised - as others have noted 2 years is about right for a companion. Hopefully she'll be given a chance to impress in the next series because imho, the last couple of series have been nothing to write home about. Hopefully Moff has gotten the whole convoluted story arc out of his system and will go back to just telling stories.

The biggest issue I have with the last few series is the simple lack of episodes. The characters really deserve more than they get annually and I think we all know there is more than enough backstory and characters to support *easily* a few more episodes per year.

And it didn't help that the last 2 series were split as well.

I agree there's plenty of backstory and characters, but unfortunately it's the workload put on whoever is playing the Doc at the time that would limit the number of stories.

We can only hope that is true. Would be nice if Moff regenerated with 11! I've been very excited since TB's appearance. You could always have him la Hartnell from the Three medics. Everything's possible these days! Probably wouldn't be that hard to fit him in the "black hole" that are the stories from the Trial period. We know we have a huge amount of stories there.

They should bring CB back as Maxil when they find the home planet.

Regarding "old faces", IF we are going to go back to the classic lore, which seems to be indicated lately, I'd love for Susan to return. you could have C-A.F. for a regeneration scene and have the "original TARDIS crew" trying to find their way back home. with Susan's awesome return in LC, would it be so impossible to imagine? Probably. Then again, I'm still hoping for the roundels to return. My brain almost exploded when we got a glimpse of them. Was happy to know that 10 and 11 liked them too, although they had no idea what they were for. More memory loss there as they were obviously quite useful in the classics. I think I'm becoming more and more nostalgic. The new series is great - don't get me wrong - but like a few mentionned, we need to get back to solid characters, not just pretty faces, action scenes and over complicated plotlines. I loved the war doctor's no b*llshit attitude: "Why are you pointing a screwdriver at me?" and what about that face when refering to "timey-wimey"? having an older-ish doctor will probably bring some seriousness back into the program. i mean after the events of the last episode, he must be what, 1500? 1600? Time to grow up doc! Only a few days left to wait!!

well to be fair it is a work print - much of the dialog is missing and not sub titled.

i think this is the type of course that the 6th medic wanted to do. 10th medic fangirls/bois will hate him."

I see this viewpoint a lot lately. I agree its very 1st meets what 6th wanted to do. Which I am very excited about. I DON'T think it means that 10th fans will necessarily dislike him. ...It almost seems like the people who have been saying that are almost saying that they would prefer if there were less fans? Like it's somehow not cool if tooo many people like it. As a longtime fan who lived through the days when one didn't even bother talking about it, cause no one else cared. I say bring on even more fans! Yes new fans to any medium can be tediously annoying with uninformed opinions. But as far as I'm concerned - the doctor tends to put an emphasis on the values I wish more people shared. So, the more people that watch it, the more people will believe things like "I've never met anyone that wasn't important"!!! And by that token those 10th medic fans are just as important. Luckily I think the new season has more of something for everyone. Like classic who, but with tear jerking moments like the best of new who. And Capaldi is exquisite!

DOC : He's not real!! He's a legend?!
ROBIN : Too kind and this legend does not come alone
CUE CLARA APPEARING AND WAGGLING HER FINGERS AT DOC
CLARA : Hiya!

I know its unbelievably stupid but I did laugh so much at that. I think the crew had a good time making this one somehow.

I don't know what they're on about, it's my favourite so far! And I'm normally not much of a fan of Gark Matiss, nor was I confident about the whole Robin Hood thing.

I mean, those fans are getting older, so it is FEASIBLE at least.

I started with Ten, and was really skeptical about Eleven. I wasn't skeptical enough to decide to just up and stop watching, mind you. But he won me over in the end, and that's what matters. I'm sure Twelve will take things in a more interesting direction, and I'm looking forward to it. :)

Okay, remember that new dnd audiobook I mentioned a few days back? Well I was hoping someone could post it here? I know it's "free", but you have to put down a credit card number etc. Was just gonna wait for other sources, but I'm kinda fiending to give that one a try. Thanks ya'll.

I sent the info on these to my younger brother, older sister and my nephew (D&D fans all) and they didn't have to put in a credit card number.
The audios are hosted by AUD!B3L, an Am@z0n company, so all they needed to do was log in with their Am@z0n log-in info (email/username & password).

I'd upload them here for you, but I didn't get them.
I've got more than enough MEDIC audios with which to try to catch up. (although, I AM DL'ing the "Spectre of the Song House" thanks to DWST4, but only because I'm a collector of all versions and things "Spectre of the Song House").

Anyway, try again with JUST your Am@z0n info.

Good luck.

Weird, because I have an Amazon account. But it says that since my Amazon account doesn't have a credit card attached to IT, they won't let me download.

The Specter of the Song House from the LC Classics range.

Wow, I did not think many people would want this (or anybody here would want it for that matter). The last time I posted an LC Classic, very few downloaded it and, to me, it seemed as if they were only interested in it for Medic 4's performance as a certain pirate captain (which was a wonderful performance).

I'll have to see if I still have the "Pirate Captain" audio.
I know I DL'ed it, but may have accidentally lost it.

The "SPECTRE" audio is much more of an enticement for me as I am a devotee of all things "Spectre of the Song House".
Have every version, got ancillary products as well (shirts, toys, etc) but also WROTE a variation of the tale that was to have been published as a deluxe format graphic novel back in the early 1990's.
The company folded JUST before my work was to be released. But it is still an approach yet to be tackled by anyone, so I may submit it to a new publisher - OR just do it all myself, if I can find the time to illustrate it.

Thank you dwst4!

By all account the LC version is one of the most faithful to the original text. I only really knew the story from various cultural references and, of course, the infamous musical, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Might there be ANY chance of this being posted to a different service than Mega?
Mega always seems to give my system a fit.

Last two things I've tried to DL, Mega stops working midway thru - no matter how many times I try again.
(Anyone else have that happen to them?)
Sorry to be a pain.

I've got jdownloader on my MAC, but it doesn't work on MEGA for some reason, no matter what I do to fix the problem.
I can usually DL from MEGA on my PC laptop, but lately, it has not been working.

To combine the best of both worlds I tried to install jdownloader on the laptop but it wanted to install seemingly nasty-looking spyware as a part of it (which seems to be a part of the installation agreement now).

As for the 'spyware' stuff - just double check you're not falling victim to a double-negative "untick the box if you want to not have the the none installed version of our toolbar" type thing.

HA!
Nah... I DID look into that when I was first trying to install it, as it had brought up a screen I didn't recall agreeing to.
So before it completed, I aborted it and paid careful attention to all the tick-boxes when I tried a re-do.

Anyway, I just gave Mega another go on my MAC's jdownloader and it worked fine.

Yeah, it's alright. But has the basic Pygmalion idea got decent legs for a series? Unlike Karen, I doubt it.

She's good at comedy, and she works well with Sulu '09, but definite feeling here at Nobber Towers that time may well show it would have made a better 90 minute movie.

There's an interrupted rape scene in the first and second episodes, and the second was more of a bargaining tool by the redcoats to make the handsome Scottish bloke answer their questions. "Answer us, or I'm going to take your sister into that shed over there."

But no. No actual rape as yet.

Avoiding rape in these backward times (1843) is something clever heroic women do to win, when men are being thugs.

You can also install jdownloader in Sandboxie and copy and paste it out since it's basically portable. I've actually made a thread warning people about jdownloader's MALware on their help forum (the adware installs itself even if you untick every box, I checked and ended up having to restore Windows to get rid of sweetpacks) and then the moderators attempted to bury my thread by merging it with a less strongly worded thread (and one of the other people who accidentally installed the crap also raised that point). I know they include it on purpose because they get money for including adware because at least once every couple of days someone makes a thread about it.

Once you have an installation of Jdownloader, though, there is no more covert adware attempting to install itself and if I recall correctly there is a specific url Jdownloader asks for which if I recall correctly, doesn't have the adware. But the safest bet is to install jdownloader in a Sandbox which means any adware installed ends up there, and then just copy over the installation folder off the sandbox onto your computer (it will work or at least it worked with my installation of Jdownloader 2). The malware stays on the sandbox which you can then purge completely and then you get a working copy of jdownloader :3

Also works great with most of those stupid 'download our program download accelerator or we refuse to hand over the file'.

Also, don't get the file off CNET either because they're packing even more adware than normal ontop of the installation.

Perhaps it's being on OSX, but I honestly can say I've never had an ad/malware issue with JD2. BUT ... reading though that forum does give one pause for thought. As much as a PITA it is phaffing with sandboxes or VMs, I'd rather than than spend a day scrubbing the machine(s) clean of unwanted crapware.

Can not tell you how much I loved seeing those two in action again (although can not understand why they didn't put a little hair-color onto 2's head to try to keep the illusion more in keeping with his original appearance back in the day).

But the seeming EASE with which 2 and J slipped back into their roles was comforting.

But the seeming EASE with which 2 and J slipped back into their roles was comforting.
I loved 2's tenure and it was nice to see them again. The Double Medics is one of my favorites from CB's era as well. Unfortunately there are quite a few fans who consider it one of the worst stories of Baker the second's tenure. Admittedly the whole hungryman bit with Doc 2 and Shockeye was a tad over-the-top but I personally liked the goofiness of the whole bit. As for Doc 2 and James both having grey in their hair, there is a theory among fandom that explains this. Season 6B also known as Season 6b and Season 6 (b) is the narrative space between the end of the televised Doctor Who stories The War Games (which concludes Season 6) and the beginning of Spearhead from Space (the opener to Season 7).

The gap exists because the regeneration of the Second Doctor (played by Patrick Troughton) into the Third Doctor (played by Jon Pertwee) was never explicitly shown on television - although the Second Doctor's face is shown beginning to change and contort, and then disappear, as he spins away into the void. Instead, viewers were left only with the impression that the Doctor had been sentenced to two fates: enforced regeneration and exile on Earth. Season 6B thus contains stories in which the Second Doctor is living under the threat of these two sentences. Depending on the story involved, he may be living on Earth or not, but all stories in this period have him waiting to be forcibly regenerated.

Season 6B is regarded as a theory or fanon by those fans who hold that only the televised stories are "proper" or "canonical", but it has been the backdrop to many officially licensed, if untelevised, stories. Because this wiki takes the view that all officially licensed stories are of equal value, the basic notion that the Second Doctor had many adventures after The War Games is regarded here as a "truth" of the Doctor Who universe.

The idea of a gap of time between The War Games and Spearhead dates back to 1969, the year Patrick Troughton left the series.

When the First Doctor (William Hartnell) had regenerated into the Second (Patrick Troughton), things had been relatively easy for Polystyle Publications, the official Doctor Who comic licensees. There had been precisely a one-week gap between Hartnell and Troughton on TV and their TV Comic, a weekly publication, had easily followed suit. In 1969, though, Troughton was leaving at the end of the season. To make matters worse, there would be a significant break as Doctor Who cut its annual episode output almost in half. It was almost six months between the end of War Games and the beginning of Spearhead, easily the longest gap between new televised episodes of Doctor Who up to that time.

Not wanting to stop publication of their Doctor Who comic strip, Polystyle kept on publishing stories featuring the Second Doctor. In the stories, the Doctor has indeed been exiled to Earth, but was awaiting his Time Lord-imposed regeneration. For a time, the Second Doctor lived the high life as a celebrity based in London's swanky Carlton Grange Hotel. (COMIC: Action in Exile) He travelled the Earth, responding to calls received via the Carlton Grange switchboard, with nary a UNIT soldier in sight. (COMIC: The Mark of Terror, The Brotherhood, U.F.O.)

One day, conveniently around the time Spearhead from Space aired on TV, he was a celebrity panellist on Explain My Mystery, a game show of sorts that asked experts to explain supernatural phenomena. Unable to diagnose the caller's mystery over the phone, the Doctor went into the English countryside to a farm. There, in the deep of night, scarecrows animated by the Time Lords captured him and forced him to regenerate. Then, they sent the TARDIS on one last journey, leaving the reader to believe that when the Doctor arrived, he'd fall out of the TARDIS in Oxley Woods as the Third Doctor, just as he did in the first episode of Spearhead from Space. (COMIC: The Night Walkers) These comic strips, however, were soon forgotten. In an internet-less age, it wasn't easily possible for fans in possession of the comic strips to share them with the broader fanbase. They would lay outside of fans' grasp for another few decades.

In the meantime, Patrick Troughton returned to Doctor Who as the Second Doctor, each time looking a little older. At the same time, it became easier to get home video of early serials such as The War Games and Spearhead from Space. Fans began to question what they were seeing. Amongst the questions asked were:
◾ Why does the Third Doctor begin TV: Spearhead from Space with several items that the Second Doctor didn't have at the end of TV: The War Games, such as a ring, a bracelet and a TARDIS homing watch?
◾ How, in TV: The Five Doctors, does the Second Doctor know that the Time Lords had erased the memories of Jamie McCrimmon and Zoe Heriot? The erasure took place immediately before the Doctor is seen to "twirl around" at the end of The War Games, so that twirling must not have indicated regeneration.
◾ Why do the Second Doctor and Jamie appear older in TV: The Two Doctors?
◾ How does Jamie know about the Time Lords in The Two Doctors unless The Two Doctors comes after The War Games for him?
◾ How come the Second Doctor is working, apparently willingly, for the Time Lords in both TV: The Three Doctors and The Two Doctors?
◾ Why does the Second Doctor possess a TARDIS recall device of a type the Sixth Doctor does not have in The Two Doctors?
◾ In The Two Doctors, why is the Second Doctor's TARDIS control room of an obviously different design to that which he used prior to his trial?
◾ Possibly related to the above: How can the Second Doctor be confident of his ability to retrieve Victoria after The Two Doctors when he could never control the TARDIS during his own era?
◾ Why is the Doctor's recorder in the second console room in TV: The Masque of Mandragora? We never saw him use the second console room on television, so he must've used the room at some point after The War Games.

These questions were given detailed consideration in The Discontinuity Guide by Paul Cornell, Martin Day and Keith Topping. A theory grew from this book which was quickly embraced by fandom. Indeed, it eventually became "fanon". When the BBC started printing excerpts from the Guide on their website, it crossed over from fanon into essentially BBC "policy". As of 2011, "season 6B" remains a part of the official BBC episode guide. The full text of the official position on 6B is more extensive, but the core of the idea goes something like this:
Rather than undergoing the regeneration shown starting at the end of The War Games, the Second Doctor was recruited to work for the Celestial Intervention Agency, a clandestine Time Lord organisation shown to exist in TV: The Deadly Assassin. During this time, the Second Doctor regained Jamie and Victoria as companions, acquired a Stattenheim remote control device to summon his TARDIS and undertook an unknown number of missions, including that depicted in The Two Doctors. Eventually, the Doctor's association with the CIA ended for reasons not known and his full War Games sentence was executed at the beginning of Spearhead from Space.
Established as narrative fact

TV Comic had long established an actual, narrative period of time where the Second Doctor was exiled on Earth. But for a while, The Discontinuity Guide's notion of the post-War Games Second Doctor working for the CIA had remained purely theoretical. It was just a way to explain the discontinuity. It really took Terrance Dicks to put the theory into action. Dicks' "Players trilogy" pressed the theory into service, making it explain the presence of the Second Doctor in PROSE: Players and World Game. The latter novel, in fact, walks the reader from the end of The War Games into the beginning of the Doctor's association with the CIA and into his first adventure on their behalf.

Thus, this final Second Doctor novel, published after David Tennant had made his first appearance as the Tenth Doctor, effectively rewrote the book on the Second Doctor's era. It had taken more than thirty years since people first started scratching their heads at the adventures of the Second Doctor in colour, but at last there was something in print, bearing a BBC logo, that actually explained it all.

Season 6b, in pretty much all the detail that Cornell and company had envisaged, was no longer just a theory, but the narrative explanation embraced by Terrance Dicks the man who had created most of the discontinuity in the first place.

Season 6b, in pretty much all the detail that Cornell and company had envisaged, was no longer just a theory, but the narrative explanation embraced by Terrance Dicks — the man who had created most of the discontinuity in the first place.

I've recently become acquainted with the "6B" concept and was just about to hunt for the "Medic D!SC0NT!NU!TY GU!D3" as an ebook...
would anyone out there have a digital file to share?
(I use mobi, but any ebook format is ok since I use calibre).

If not, I'm sure I can find it, but since you serendipitously brought it up... lol

Actually, if there are also digital copies of PROSE: Players - and - PROSE: World Game out there, I'd love to read those next!

Oh, there's an arc - and it's starting in the first episode.

---------- Post added at 07:08 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:05 AM ----------

And it didn't help that the last 2 series were split as well.

I agree there's plenty of backstory and characters, but unfortunately it's the workload put on whoever is playing the Doc at the time that would limit the number of stories.

Yeah, that's one of the problems - splitting the series. It didn't do the show any favours. It's good to have a continued run this year!

During my continued viewing of "50-years" of Medic episodes, last night I watched "The TWO Medics" 6 & "Chesty P" meeting 2 and Jamie.
Can not tell you how much I loved seeing those two in action again (although can not understand why they didn't put a little hair-color onto 2's head to try to keep the illusion more in keeping with his original appearance back in the day).

But the seeming EASE with which 2 and J slipped back into their roles was comforting.
I loved 2's tenure and it was nice to see them again.

I know, in second medic's case, he didn't want his hair coloured - it was a one of his conditions to appearing back on the show. The Two Medics is one of my favourites, namely for having the second medic and his companion, but also Dastari (the actor who portrays him) and the Miss Pearce.

I wouldn't mind that either please...pretty please...

By the way. I've finished watching the workprints of the first three new medic episodes and I'm happy. Pete is bloody great. Lots of laugh out loud moments. And, after I'd finished the third episode I was wanting to watch more - which is always a good sign. Looking forward to seeing the series proper...

Yes. I tried to DL this, and eventually had to just go to the YouTube video, get its (their) URL(s) and pop them into YouTube to MP3 converter YouTube to mp3 Converter (http://www.youtube-mp3.org/) - (or if you want the video(s) then pop the url(s) into YouTube CLip Converter YouTube Video Converter and Download - ClipConverter.cc (http://www.clipconverter.cc).

I gathered the grey hair factored in to the whole "6B' aspect (maybe Patrick was aware of that movement - since it was seemingly started just after his last episode), or maybe he just had no vanity about appearing to have aged. If anyone knows more about if, I'd be interested in learning more, as I've been loving looking behind the scenes (I've been reading the write-ups in the MEDICS HANDBOOKs series for each episode as well as discovering the informative tidbits of the "Wife In Space" blog).

That site is one of those that comes under the heading of "it's too good to be true" for rare finds it just happens to have ... or, in other words, it's built from grabbing search terms and snarfing music database info.

I'd bet good money that if lots of us suddenly started searching for "The Paddington Bear Fandango mp3 download" it would soon start to crop up on that, and similar, sites.

YouTube, as mentioned above, is great for trying to find rarities. As is Spotify if you can be bothered to set your system up to 'hijack' the audio stream from it.

Nobber,

I managed to find a shirt with the Medic 8 playing card illustration on it (whence your avatar originates) and have to thank YOU for making me search out the image.
A Shame the artist/shirt printers who did 8 (and 9, 10 & 11) didn't do classic Medics.
I'd have killed for a 2 and a 4 in the same style.
2,4,8 - the best medics! (imho)
(11/10 being guilty pleasures as well)

On a tangential note, I'll have to update my signature soon.
I've finished watching 5 and am nearly done with 6.
I'd have to place 6 neck-and-neck with 3 (maybe just before 3 by a hair) and 5 at the end.

Er, how do two books make up a trilogy?

At least a two-book "trilogy" helps to rebalance the average number of books per "trilogy", given Douglas Adams' cramming 5 books into his famous "trilogy". Between Dicks and Adams, that's 3.5 books/trilogy. Better.

Speaking of Sixey, I've just viewed R3V3L@T!0N of the D@L3K$, and before I head over to "TRIAL of a..." (season 23), I've found that the radio show of $L!PB@CK was what helped to hold over fans in the long hiatus.
So... I'm going to switch media and give a listen to that before I go to TRIAL.

Mistake? Or logical move on my part?

$lIpb@ck is a fairly generic story. It's not necessary, but enjoyable enough, if quite light, in a style that owes a lot to Adams, especially with the novelization. Bu tit definitely fits between those seasons, with the Sixth Medic still being fairly harsh.

If you haven't listened to them yet, you should try listening to the first series of LC's not found audio stories next. They slot in between those seasons, and are generally quite good. Most of those stories were supposed to be in that missing season that we lost when they cancelled the show. (Although a few were meant for the Trial season.)

The problem with the premature leaking of episodes that are not yet broadcast-ready is that when the finalised episode finally does make its appearance, those of us who have held fast to our (ahem) viewer virginity cannot be sure that what we're about to download is in fact the grand lady in all her post-production fancy dress, and not merely the half-dressed promiscuous tramp that everyone else has been sampling.

Is he spending years between Clara adventures, or seconds?

Either answer is a complete lack of respect to the woman in an utterly different way.

I see the effort to remove the companions from the everyday journeys as a way to expand the life of the Medic.
Think about it. Medics 2, 3, 5, 6 (no idea idea about 7 as I haven't begun viewing his tenure yet) have had no (or almost no) time to journey without a companion, so their tales (and lifespan) is pretty much what is seen already.
Sure, there are some places for wiggle-room (and writers are always shoehorning in retcon adventures between the on-air showings, but those don't help give the Medic more than the few years of life that he had "on screen", as companions tend to be mortal (human ones anyway. Maybe NY$$@, @DR!C and other alien ones had longer lifespans where they could journey multiple decades without aging much).

Obviously, at ANY time where a companion leaves and before the next one comes along is room for untold years worth of unseen adventures, UNLESS the outgoing and incoming shipmates are in the same adventure - and worse yet, like T3G@N / TURL0UG# who MET each other and one handed the Medic off to the other. But most companion swaps happen that way. One hands the medic over to the next.
4 had an unknown span between SJS and the Savage. (The NOVELIZATION of Savage's 1st story had Medic4 speaking offhandedly to a now-absent SJS, as he must have only recently dropped her off before the whole Assassination adventure, but the on-air episode did not have that line, and as such leads to potential multi-century adventures between the Assassination epic and Savage's 1st appearance).

Any way... long-winded answer aside, I think having the companions NOT live with the Medic gives room for him to have hundred year age jumps between incarnations.

Just watched ep 4, and LOVED it! Seriously, one of my favorite episodes ever!

So, here's my non-spoilery rundown:
1: great intro story, darker, but still fairly scary.
2: instant classic. dark as hell. This one will really settle people on whether or not they like (or love) Capaldi.
3: fun and light, though perhaps a bit TOO light.
4: Wow! Another instant classic. Dark, scary, complex, with great characterizations, especially of Clara and the Doctor. Moffat at his finest.
5: a bit of a romp, but not what you might expect. more complex than you might expect too.
All in all, a great start to the season!

As for the spoilery secret in ep 5, remember that this was a workprint with only preliminary special effects. So maybe it will be less obvious in the final version.

Can I just say that I love what they did at the end of episode 5? But I have to say it was a bit of a jerk move on aralC's behalf not telling the Medic that she had accidentally found the place he was searching for.

Just wondering though; how long was the Doctor actually on Trenzalore before he regenerated?

Just out of interest thumbs up or thumbs down on keeping the accent. With McCoy being the last medic to have the Scotto accent it left a slight bitter taste in my mouth as 7 is my least fav. I thought that it was impossible/highly frowned upon to travel back into Gallifrey's past even before there was a time lock placed around it, so wouldn't he logically be able to travel back in time and stay on the planet just as it's hidden and tag along on it's trip to the pocket universe? If they'd accidentally broken through, you'd think Clara would think saving Gallifrey was more important than not popping the Doctor's bubble.

I went to visit my sister yesterday (she's a NuHoovian, as is my nephew) and watched the premier episode live with them (with my brother there as well, who is into SF stuff, but not necessarily a Medic fan).
I brought generic US versions of "J@mm!e D0dgers" and "JelliB@bies", gave my nephew an 11th Medic Sonic and sis a squeezable fat-baby, which made me a big hit.
lol

The on-air color version did have some differences from the leaky version (edited dialogue and obviously added fx) but was well accepted by all!

The only negative thing we all said was "new version of the theme song suxx". Too much synthy treble, not enough bass line.
Otherwise, we all enjoyed it!

Then we watched a few of the leaky bits... episodes 4 and 5... (not that my opinions mean much, but)...
Episode 4 is riveting. It has potential to go down as a classic. It also helps to cement "The Imp0ss!ble Grrl" as being in every medic's past timeline.

I do agree with the idea that past-tense MedicWorld is accessible, while Presentp-day MedicWorld is not, yet.
BUT if he WERE to visit it prior to it's 3D-paintification by all 12Medics he would need to be sure he would not be put into stasis with the rest of the world, so... not sure how viable a past-trip to MedicWorld would be for him as a means to "find" it.

Cl@r@'s New BF is very likable (even though he's stealing my girl. LOL), and he'll make an interesting addition to the crew.

Ep 5 was a VERY fun romp!
Enjoyable crime/mystery adventure.

After viewing it with a female, I don't know how other NuHoovian grrls will respond to C@p@lD0c, as he's not the love-muffin they went all doe-eyed over with 10 and 11, but my sis (after months of concern) gives him the thumb's up (though, admittedly, she is quite a bit older than the luv-struck fangirls [and boys - there's nothing wrong with that] who may turn off the program by being turned-off by a grey-haired Medic).

Obviously, that's why the episode went so far to reiterate that THIS is the SAME man.

Well, while I'm not arguing with you about any of your points, - and while *I* am not particularly sexually attracted to the medic, I can assure you that there have always been (well, as far back as medic 3... maybe2 due to his easy nature) that some people (I'm just going to say women, even though I'm sure there have been some men and maybe Zygons) who found him sexually attractive.
Heck, maybe 1 had his fans too in that regard. "Someone for everyone" and all that.

Many reviewers, critiques, interviews and whatnot that I've read, watched and heard over the years have had people fawing over certain medics (4 & 5 were the biggest of the classic range, 8 got hearts aflutter and then 9, 10 & 11 just ramped up the juice).

The medic's darker or more dangerous leanings would be more of a turn-on than you might think.
Haven't you ever heard a woman say "I can change him" when dating an abusive monster?

Besides, mysterious nature with dangerous leanings are catnip to some.

Of course, as 2nd medic said just prior to his vortex subjugation by the L0rds of Temporal-passing (pertaining to his choice of his 3rd face) people of Earth place a high importance to physical appearance. It's important.
So a monster with Xants big brown eyes and great hair would get a pass by many even if he is exactly the same as a monster with a big nose, bulging eyes, attack eyebrows and grey hair - who would not get the same favorable treatment.

Sadly, that's human nature.

I don't agree with it, but that's why stories like "Bendyback of the French Bell Tower", "CyraNOSE DeBerger-rack" and "Spectre of the Song House" have the impact that they do.

We KNOW that monsters can be beautiful inside and/or that beauty can disguise hideous inner workings.

Still, not arguing with you.
Just rolling the idea ball around.

Likewise, it feels like ages since we've had it back properly. I nearly missed it a few times last year as the show was on so infrequently in 2012 and 13, it feels almost wrong for the show to be back. Now I'm going to have to get my family back into the mindset of watching the show every weekend. :P

McCulloch's theme is very untraditional, but I just love the baseline and his rendition of the middle eight is just wonderful. The title sequence was also remarkably well done for it's time, and has aged pretty well too, asides from the meteors. But that's my opinion, as you say. :D

Utopia has been phenomenal. That monologue at the opening of S2 E6, was almost legendary!

Based on this and your other tastes - I really think you should maybe give The Fades another chance (even though there will never be a 2nd season) I don't recommend things based on what I like. I try instead to base my recommendations on the person I'm talking to. Maybe you just watched it in the wrong mood. Or maybe I'm just wrong. It does go a bit slow at first.

Anyways, so glad I'm not the only one who has been watching Utopia. That show has been utterly daring.

I really enjoyed the Series 8 opener. Watched it with friends from my libraries' DW Club at a restaurant in town. Sadly I had to head home before the last 30mins. BBC America's commercial breaks were unnecessarily long, and frequent, can't wait for the dvd to come out. So I know how it ended.

I liked Capaldi's Doctor (so far). Disliked the opening credits (I liked them when they were just a fan video though). Don't like the whole "It looks familiar." "Why this face?", give me a break that's scraping the bottom of the barrel of story arcs if you ask me. They better cover why he chose to look like Maxil all those years ago too.

lol

I do have to wonder if the "leaked" episodes were maybe "given" a way to be easily leaked.
Well... maybe not.
If it were JUST one or two episodes then I guess it'd be easier to justify as a PR gambit (much like the leaked 2005 episode "R0S3" - which helped to engage interest in what was a very unsure gamble [bringing back "Medic What?"]).

But, even those like myself who like a good conspiracy theory and understand how companies sometimes engage in faux-sabotage of their own "secrets" to help build PR (no such thing as bad press) have to acquiesce that 5 leaked episodes (and scripts) is just someone's blunder.

Still, it is impressive that those of us who did view advanced footage really have not gone around blabbing about it on twitter (at least I hope not. Perhaps fear of some kind of retribution might be the factor there). But the fans didn't leak much back in 2005 nor did those who received their series 7b boxed sets early.
We just seem to energize the fanbase with cryptic remarks and "oohs and ahhs".

What does all this mean?
Nothing, really.
Just stirring up some discussion.

On a personal note, I've just entered Medic 7's 2nd season (1988-1989) with R3M3MBR@NC3 of the Peppots.
Was glad to see M3L go and very happy to see clownish Medic7 persona replaced with cunning, masterplanner.

If I hurry, I can view the rest of 7's tenure before 2nd Medic12 episode. (was hoping to have them all done before 1st, but real life got in the way. Stupid, real life!)

SBM "The fans didn't leak much back in 2005." ....HUMBLY - Who would we have leaked it to? I watched it thinking "An unaired MEDIC pilot!?! When did they make this? Oh, it's brand new. Well this will be horrible, but I have to see." Then I crossed my fingers, and sat tight. Minute by minute, my joy grew, as I kept thinking "Wow, I can't believe how faithful this is to the source material, it almost seems like it could be a straight continuation from 8. Oh god, please let it be a straight continuation. This has the exact correct feel to it. Too bad this isn't going to be made. It'd be cool if they made a season of this though. NO WAY will it get a second season." Now look were we are. So yeah, if this board existed in 2005, that is what I would've leaked. It's not like I knew ANYONE who would've said "Oh please don't spoil the new episode by telling me what happens in it, or quoting some random line" Roflmao!

We would actually be way past 1000, but some pages got deleted once or twice.

Dunno what the fuss about 1000 pages is ... I'm still on Page 500 ...

Talking of audio ... took me aaaaggess to get through this months main range. A rare thing for a 7th Adventure to completely fail to engage my attention. Felt like a two episode idea dragged kicking and screaming to four. Sophie was as good as ever, though.

I have to look it up, because it can't have been that good.

OH!

Meh. A terribly uninteresting 4th Medic episode to use as a launching pad.

Apart from introducing K9, Drax, making duplicates and using a shrink ray on themselves before embarking on a fantastic journey inside the Savage.

Shite puppet for a baddie though, so the give us yet more of the least interesting component form that story.

7 using Hextor as bait to be torn apart was suitably gruesome.

4th and the Blokey Chronicles were fun, though.

Y'know, I don't think I've heard the latest Scarf. Unless it was the one with those irritating laughing people. I couldn't finish that one. And on the subject of things I haven't heard, it seems like it's been a fair while since I heard an Eighth Medic story. Has one been release in the last month or two?

With the exception of the Luminosity at the Finish and Dim Peepers I + II, the last story that starred 8 was 155, in 2011.

Dim Peepers III is due out this November.

welcome to page M, all. love and mungbeans and Doctory goodness. I loved the new ep...

well, not the ep so much- it had a tolerable plot, but did not need all the prods "Mme de Pompadour" "I've seen this somewhere before" plus that whole bit seemed a bit done; and I still hate the sidelining of a Sontaran as comic relief. and YTF would they stick in another bloody "the Woman"‽‽‽ also the phone call laid it on a bit thick and the new title credits suck big floppy donkey dick (hey, that rhymed!)
HOWEVER
I loved Capaldi! SO MUCH <3333

And to keep this on an AUDIO thread... oh dear Temporal Tomato, Time-Keeping Fruit (not a vegetable)... any chance for an up of the audio series based upon the homeworld of the Medic?
Sagas detailing the continuing lives and adventures of several women (and robotic dogs) known and loved by a certain scarfed one?

Thanks in advance!

But, hey... if we're going to have a page for every year of the Medic's life, we need 1000 MORE pages!

jlatx,
You have my (well, not "envy" really) deepest feelings of "I wish I could have experienced it similarly".
To come across that kind of mysterious, hidden treasure of discovery... to bask in the glow of POSSIBILITY and let it awash over you as the experience unfolds before your eyes... to NOT KNOW if such a thing is to be believed, or are you merely "glimpsing a unicorn" which can not possibly exist or continue to exist once you've turned away...

THAT must have been a truly scintillating moment (well, however long the episode was... 45 minutes?), and an experience unlike my own.

I was told by my sister (whom I am unsure even knew of my own love of classic Medic - my having watched "the scarfed one" on PBS channels in the late 1970's - early 1980's, as well as the 1996 movie [which had me hoping, like your 2005 experience; "can this be picked up as a series?"]) that there were NEW episodes on TV (my local PBS channel started with the 2005 stuff - in 2006!) and I watched in disbelief that IT WAS BACK!

But, to my dismay, the series' were continuing but my local PBS channel just kept repeating the 2005 1st series over and over.

I watched the same 1st series episodes for another year or so, and it wasn't until 2012 that I was able to begin cramming SEVERAL YEARS worth of episodes into my brain via NetFlix and the interwebs.
It was more like being stranded out at sea and watching the ocean liner from which I fell, passing by on another journey, so I must swim to catch up to it, but no matter how fast I swam, it was always just ahead. Just out of reach.

I finally caught up midway through medic11 ! - where I was now ON BOARD and traveling along with the experience, instead of swimming in its wake.

Then, when 11 wrapped-up I decided to do another marathon swim and watched the previous "50years" (getting nearly all of them in before 12 came to the fore - I've only got one season of 7 to wrap up and I'll be all "up to date").

And now THANKS TO YOU PEOPLE, I'm accessing years of AUDIO and PRINT adventures!

Due to job/life "new realities", I'm no longer able to afford the media purchases that I once may have done, or I'd be doing more than the occasional expenditure (as a collector, my mania almost REQUIRES me to buy the actual item or else it isn't "real"), but I'm LOVING the fact that you people help me to get what I need quickly (in digital format) while I s-l-o-w-l-y try to acquire the real items (still... I may NEVER be able to find everything in tangible form [something that would have killed my collector-monkey mentality before now],) and your kind sharity is SO VERY APPRECIATED.

LONG may this forum continue, and THANK YOU!

And THANKS to all the recent links!
